UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss – See Vita’s Intu-Aim Feature

Jeff Rubenstein's Avatar Posted by on Dec 15, 2011 // Sr. Social Media Manager

Earlier this week we held a massive PlayStation Vita event in San Francisco, rife with new games, first hands-on time, and newly-debuted features. The Sony Bend Studios team working on Uncharted: Golden Abyss rolled into town touting something in that last category – the Vita-specific Intu-Aim feature. This “aiming modifier” allows gamers to combine the six-axis gyro features of the Vita to fine tune the shots you line up with the right analog stick for greater precision.

In this exclusive new video, producer Darren Yager shows Drake’s Intu-Aim aided gunning efficiency in action:

Also of note: Intu-aim is an optional feature; the team is committed to allowing you to play how you want to play. Having tried it out, I found that you’ll probably end up using it without even realizing you’re doing it.

That looked pretty nifty, but it’s something I need to try out to see if I like it. The game looks great and the previews have been a fun read :)

Man I can’t wait for the Vita! Also, can you guys tell us the other locations you will stop at? Hopefully around Kansas City, MO because like I said, I CAN NOT WAIT! (P.S. First!)

Crap. Second

Great feature. It will be cool to use the right analog to aim around the enemy and use Intu-aim to get a more accurate shot.

I am still undecided, I will wait and see on this vita and uncharted thing.

Hey Jeff!

Can you Please confirm that uncharted: golden Abyss will have online multiplayer, just uncharted 2 & 3 on the PS3.

OH and same thing for Resistance: burning Skies, will it have online multiplayer, just like Resistance 1 , 2 & 3 on the PS3.

Got a few minutes of hands on time at the PSVitaMeetupVegemin in SF a couple weeks back and was definitely wowed; great looking and playing. Was this feature present in the builds we had? I definitely was getting some fine tuning on my sniper shots via motion control, but was holding it fairly still when free-firing.

Also have to say how much more I liked the touch screen navigation than I expected to. Sometimes when navigation ledges, having the stick controls be relative to the camera can be a hassle and the touch screen totally did away with that.

This is gonna be awesome to have to carry around :)

Vita release date is getting close now. Definitely buying this game since I can’t get enough of Nathan Drake.
I predict my productivity, which has been admittedly cr@ppy since I became a gamer, will plumb new lows when I take my Playstation gaming on the go. Yay!

I got a chance to try this out. The level of accuracy rivals a keyboard / mouse setup. It works very well.

Will wait for the inevitable PS3 port with superior controls and ability to play under any account.

+ John-Shooter on December 15th, 2011 at 3:29 pm said:

im gonna give this handheld like a year before i go get it.. i rushed out to get the psp at what 300-400 bucks i think it was only to find out that they made like what 4 different models of it years later.. and the games mostly sucked

uncharted has to be like the only good launch title i think and i cant see buying another platform for 1 title right now

i got plenty of back-logged titles to play since i’ve been all over ND’s last game to even pull myself away from gaming on the ps3 right now too so… yea no new platforms for me right now

congratz on managing to steal ye another idea from Nintendo. For those who don’t own a 3ds this set up is a copy of several 3ds games’ aiming systems…

+ gamer_316 on December 15th, 2011 at 4:09 pm said:

with most PS3 games that use the Six Axis motion sensor i turn that off & stick to the analog sticks. I hope we’re able to just turn off the motion sensing options on this as well cuz like I don’t wanna be laying down & relaxing & have to keep jerking the system around

+ NeoRaidenX on December 15th, 2011 at 4:09 pm said:

oh god no. When will they learn. Those controls are gimmicky and inaccurate, slow, inconvinient, and so forth. I will try it for about 5 seconds and then turn those controls off, and never turn them again. Stop wasting time with this.

On a brighter note, can’t wait for this game and for the Vita to come out!

+ AgentX on December 15th, 2011 at 4:21 pm said:

This looks good in the video. I don’t care very much for gratuitous touch/tilt controls being pasted into games simply “because the system can do it”, and the last round of PS Vita trailers a few days ago seemed to emphasize these additions a little too much. That being said, this “Intu-Aim” seems like a very good application of tilt control. Also, it’s good to hear that it’s optional. That way, players who don’t like this feature aren’t forced to use it.

+ Kchow23 on December 15th, 2011 at 4:45 pm said:

Let Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Gravity Rush come out at the same time as the First Edition Bundle. Would like to play them both ASAP!

+ Kchow23 on December 15th, 2011 at 4:46 pm said:

I like that it is mainly to center the shot and not heavily used to aim since it got really annoying in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

+ Glamthaus on December 15th, 2011 at 7:06 pm said:

Will Intu-Aim have its own sensitivity adjustment option?

The sensitivity in the video seems too low for my liking.

I really want to get a Vita on day one. I purchased my pspGo on day one and love it to death. But if what im hearing about the Vita not having an internal HD, (the PspGo ha a 16 Gig internal HD) . If this is true, I may wait it out a bit. Having to pluck down $250 plus another $30 plus for a memory card is not cool at all. Why the Vita does not have an internal HD is unbelievable to me. I hope im wrong.

+ Senjutsu_Dav on December 15th, 2011 at 10:17 pm said:

@ onslaughtree: you surely would have bought a memory card one day or another anyway, and it’s not like the memory card is needed to play nor save games, unless you plan on downloading them from the network. Then yes, you’ll have to pay this 30$. I think sony failed with this one since it wont cover them against piracy, and it will restraint a part of the users to buy things from the PSN..

Anyway, for the topic, I dislike those kind of conrols. I do not own the kinect nor the move nor a wii for this reason. I have hate my ipad’s controls for games (same for ipod) that were made to play with controllers. I prefer the perfect precision of my thumb, lol.

Looks awesome, day one buy for sure.

+ Slayer1o7 on December 16th, 2011 at 5:18 am said:

No abbasman47 it’s pretty much confirmed that uncharted golden abyss will not have multiplayer

+ onslaughtree on December 16th, 2011 at 6:06 am said:

@ Senjutsu_Dav: the way I do it now with my pspGo is, I download my games via PSN, then transfer them to my Go. the 16 Gig is more than enough space. I currently have on my hard drive, JAK&DAXTER:LF/SONIC RIVALS2/PAC-MAN:CE/CASTLEVANIA CHRONICLES/SF ALPHA 3/PARASITE EVE 2/MEGA MAN:MHX/MOD NATION RACERS/LBP/ALIEN CRUSH/BONK/A SPACE SHOOTER FOR 2 BUCKS/WTF/CTR/YOUNG THOR/HOT SHOTS TENNIS/ALIEN ZOMBIE DEATH/BREAKQUEST/R-TYPES/AGE OF ZOMBIES/FIGHTING FORCE/PUZZLE QUEST/ROCK BAND UNPLUGGED. and I still have over 1900 MB left of space. whenever I choose, I just add and erase games as I choose.

+ onslaughtree on December 16th, 2011 at 6:25 am said:

On another note. I’m really lovin the current pricing on select psp games. NBA2012/ CORPSE PARTY/ and others are priced at $19.99. I think that this is a great price point for portable games. I know this may not translate to the Vita, but I hope that gamers buy more games at these prices and publishers will take notice.

+ BigWoopMagazine on December 16th, 2011 at 6:31 am said:

I’m really glad you can turn that off – this feature would really, really screw me up. The only people I ever see doing the “I’m gonna move the controller while I aim or make my character jump” thing is people that never play video games, and have no clue what they’re doing. I guess it’ll be cool for them, but for me it’s almost an insult, like I don’t know how to use an analog joystick?

I also see situations where that’ll mess up people who like it – imagine playing on a bus, and it hits a bump. Woops, I just shot the ceiling instead of that guy in the head!

+ HatmanTc on December 16th, 2011 at 11:33 am said:

would have been nice to see this type of feature added to ps3 games.

+ qwertyuiop357 on December 16th, 2011 at 3:35 pm said:

This looks pretty cool.

Just another reason for me to pick up Uncharted with a Vita.

I don’t subconsciously move my PS3 controllers when I play, but I see this as more of a novelty feature, and I think I’ll be using it.
