PlayStation Store Update

Hi Everyone –
We say goodbye to 2011 with one last PlayStation Store update; just in time for those looking to warm the winter nights with some great content from PlayStation Network.

New PSN Games this week include All Zombies Must Die. This twin-stick shooter is taken to lofty new heights with a bevy of RPG features, four player co-op and optional PlayStation Move support. You’ll also want to check out Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD. This remake of the influential original puts you in the shoes of the High Plains Drifter with an all new coat of paint that you won’t want to miss.

The Splinter Cell HD Collection released earlier this year, but it’s now broken up into individual games. Want to pick up only one title in the trilogy? Now you can. The original Trilogy bundle is of course, still available, and may stand as the better deal should you wish to purchase all three.

Two great new additions in the PS3 Full Game category are also arriving this week. For an amazing gaming experience for all ages, you can now download Carnival Island, playable with PlayStation Move. Packed with a ton of great games and activities, you’ll be amazed how it uses the Move controller to create an entirely new sense of immersion. Motorstorm Apocalypse arrives as well, where you’ll race in an almost completely abandoned city that offers the perfect playground for MotorStorm’s electric brand of brutal street racing.

That’s it for the year! From everyone at PlayStation, thank you for a wonderful 2011, and we look forward to sharing more amazing experiences only available on PlayStation Network in 2012!

Here is the weekly PlayStation Store update:

  • Almost forgot.

I am going to get another PS3 because mine seems it will be dead soon(thanks god I have warranty). I have a question, do you know if I’ll be able to re-download the welcome back games once I get my new PS3? I didn’t manage to beat them all =( I looked at my download history, but I only saw Dead Nation, couldn’t see the other one. Maybe I had glitch because many of the items were repeated.

Oh, and can you provide me the link to deactive my account on my current PS3 please?

    Thanks in advance.

  • All zombies must die has no online co-op. That changes the game from “exactly what I want” to absolutely worthless. To me, of course.

  • Wait, Klonoa is out? Sadly I still don’t have a PS3 to have double checked these things… but shame on me for trusting the blog post to tell me what is and isn’t out. Minor adjustments complete.

    -> Games Released Per Platform
    PS1: 35
    -> Quarterly Release Data
    PS1
    Q1: 18 | Q2: 4 | Q3: 3 | Q4: 10
    -> Average Pricing
    PS1: $6.67

    @excaliber45
To be fair they have been improving. 0.002% C/R in Q1 to 0.05% in Q4 is a large upgrade… I think? I’m not to good with understanding percentages :?

  • I rather you guys get off this week to be with your families than to publish this update.

There isnt anything on this update worth a hoot to me except maybe the Motorstorm Trial.

Next year, just stay home :)

  • Why the PSN EU Store is so much better than US? Where are ICO and Shadow of the Colossus? Motorstorm Apocalipse for 60 bucks? Splinter Cell borken up in individual games? Its on sale in EU Store…. and its is individual games since launch.. Beyond the good and evil for a lower price? Already was in Europe as well.

  • Well so much for making a good first impression on all the people with brand new playstations they received for christmas. I mean sure last week’s updates and sales were acceptable but gee the first update those people are going to see is rather weaksauce.

But seriously, I can have a brand new physical copy of Motorstorm Apocalypse in my hands tomorrow for ten dollars cheaper and it won’t be taking up 10% of my total harddrive space. And for just over the price of 2 of the Splinter Cell games I can have all 3 on disk. Honestly you’re competing with yourself and losing with these silly prices. I mean you almost had me with a couple of the sales from last week but even those fell on deaf ears because of how redundant capcom and sega’s stuff is.

  • @ 10, grzajabarkus & @ 42, daffy5150- Maybe he’s a trophy hunter? Don’t bash another user’s opinions w/ “oh this content doesn’t appeal to me; it sucks.” Does Sony read minds as to release what you want every week? Do we have to like your taste in content? NO, & no. Grow up- well, I guess we have a few days left for a new list of New Years Resolutions, eh? Good thing for some people…

@43, megamixer- If that’s accurate, thanks for the year-end-review. Do you own a Wii or a 360 too? I wonder how it compares to Sony’s release schedule. Additionally, the Motorstorm sale @ BB was over in less than 30 min. but I do agree the digital pricing structure needs to be reviewed by someone who follows the cost of games today @ retailers. Motorstorm should be $24.99-$30.00 to be competitive vs. the physical copy.

Also, for + users, IGN did a feature on how much is saved w/ a + membership (search Google) but I’m not sure if it’s updated.

  • i love that you guys put the file sises! that helps alot when u have the fat 80g ps3. thank you

  • I’m still waiting for Breath of fire 4 to go on sale for the UK Can anyone answer when that will be… or will it just never happen?

  • I think its great that Carnival Games is downloadable. I wish all move games will be available for the PSN. The Move needs more LIght Gun arcadey Games. Please release some Time Crisis’s, Ghost Squad, Virtual Cop, or old HOD’s. I have a 500gig HD so bring on more Move shooting games. I prefer Move games where you don’t need to control the camera just the action. I own Killzone3, Resistance 3, Infamous 2, Res Evil5, and Goldeneye and prefer to play those games with a regular controller. I can’t point the move controller at the screen for more than 10minutes of play to keep the camera centered.

  • @megamixer

dude, you are one dedicated individual. don’t get me wrong, I always enjoy your posts and little factoids.

I just hope you carry the commitment you show here on the blog to other more productive areas in life. You could be like keeping track of government spending or reviewing tax codes to help the poor :) . I hope all that passion isn’t wasted only here on this blog….that would be very disappointing.

but keep doing your thing! :)

  • @ 48, zzamaro- It should be there. Good luck w/ your repair!

  • Well, I would have hoped that Sony would want me to spend some of my money on buying games for my Xmas PS3. I guess I was wrong to hope.

  • @megamixer
That is a VERY good review, are you a lawyer or something? You should work for the government or something haha

And why is the Assassin’s Creed 2 Bundle $18.99 when the Deluxe Edition has been up for months and it’s $19.99? They have the same content so it doesn’t seem much of a “Deal”. Just my opinion.

  • Man, i was hoping PS Plus members was going to get some sort of cool Christmas present. But, maybe they’ll surprise us…?

  • No more ps2 classics??? I shoulda figured that..

  • Weak week this week.
    PUT RISK ON SALE!!

  • Digital downloads of full ps3 disc based games will never overtake physical copies if you guys keep up with the ridiculous pricing.

  • Glad to finally see Klonoa is finally out. I’ve been dying to play that game for so long.

Here’s to a good new years, gentlemen.

  • Any news about The Official PlayStation App for iphone ?

  • MOTORSTORM APOCALYPSE DIGITAL $59.99 LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!! Ridiculous!!! I saw it two days ago at best buy, $29.99. This NOT the way to incentivate buying full downloadable games.

  • I still have yet to see any actual PS3 footage of “All Zombies Must Die.” Even on the announcement page for the game, it showed glaringly obvious 360 footage with 360 controls. That’s usually a sign of a poorly ported game. Something compatible for 360 is not automatically compatible with PS3; people should know that by now.

Will somebody at Sony please address this matter? I’d like some proof that this is a quality PS3 title, thanks.

  • @ 65, KamiAmaya- The only pattern I’ve seen w/ these high pricing models for retail games are that they drop in 6 months or less. The RE: 5 Gold Ed. was competitively priced *when* there was a sale on it a couple of weeks ago is a good example- as the digital introductory price was still too high. Another more recent example is RDR & LA Noire bundle drops, which the latter costs *less* that the “Complete” retail edition. That was a great sale for those who wanted it. Note that most of these prices benefit + members ONLY.

My advice is to wait until these retail games hit that price drop- other examples include Just Cause 2, Homefront, & that Red Faction FPS.

  • @luvtoseek
I’d say its fairly accurate. I didn’t count the four Disney PS1 re-releases towards this years total, nor the Angry Birds rerelease. I also didn’t count Sly 1/2/3 & this weeks three Splinter Cell games under the PSN-3 category, instead counting them only as single releases under PS3. Other than that everything is counted up straight from this years PS Store blog posts.

I own a Wii though I hadn’t looked at it in awhile until the other day when I was given Kirbys Return to Dream Land :) Frankly I don’t find it worthwhile keeping tabs on Wii Shop / eshop stuff. Nintendos strict pricing tiers and dripfeed of content even makes Sony look good (and I let them know that with each Club Nintendo survey I fill out) :p

Not the best comparison but its been on sale a number of time since launch and is being given away with the price collapsed PS-3D TV. MS:A was a “bomb” and this doesn’t help. Evo can’t catch a break with the game. Games at that price on PSN don’t stay that way for long. ME2, Infamous 2, PS Move Heroes all launched at that price and have seen a pricedrop or two throughout the year. Difference is: they launched day & date with retail whereas this hit 7~ months later at full price. Yargh.

  • Too busy playing Skyrim for this mess.

  • Furthermore- at least Vita digital downloads are priced less than the retail version upon release.:) It’s a start in the right direction…

  • What a tiny update. Oh, well. At least I get to recover from all my Xmas spending. Too broke for PSN this week anyways.

  • @KidCommando
No dedication involved! All you need to do is check out the weekly blog post and copy some stuff down each week. Keeping track of 391 items is a far cry from the tens of thousands surely involved with government stuff lol.

    @KrisZeakKoncept
Lawyer?? No way, not even close haha. Far, far lamer than that. More like someone with a 67 game backlog who found yet another way to procastinate!

  • when is the store updated ? I checked today for Motorstorm and Carnival Island and they werent there ?

  • Dose the splinter cell games include the hide and seek multiplayer loved the merc vs spy multi it was fun and unique?

  • @67 they talked about the iPhone app on the blog cast recently. If I remember correctly they said it would probably be ou by the end of January ( don’t quote me on that). Maybe someone else remembers exactly what they said.

  • Early update I hope it stays like this in 2012.

  • Figured the update would be small… any who didn’t lack common sense, lol.

Finally seeing the release of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath makes it all worth it, though. Those guys had a hell of a time pinpointing a release date, since the previous April release they were aiming for… >.>

Either way, I can see myself spending $50 PSN bucks very soon on Crysis, Trine 2 and Oddworld. Can’t wait!

  • Where’s Magic The Gathering: Duels Of The Planeswalkers 2012 Deck (Pack 1 – 2) ($2.99 each)?

  • @megamixer

Hey, do you have more then one account? Just wondering, because you have only 4 games on your trophy list. Maybe you should play more games, then maybe someone can take your critique more seriously.

  • WOW, with all these sales and discounts, I don’t even know where to begin!

  • Happy New Year, everyone. Since 11/11 I’ve been living in Skyrim so I’ve barely noticed these store updates. Good to know MegaMixer is keeping track of everything for us.

  • @81, I think some/many of the regular posters here have dummy accts just for the blog & for sending rude PSN messages to others. We don’t see their real accts. if you check mine you’ll see I’m a lowly level 10 with zero plats, & sadly, it’s my real acct.

Oh, I’m not saying this is true of megamixer, but just a general observation.

MegaMixer, are you an accountant? If not, you should consider that line of work.

  • woah woah woah! I hopped on the blog and wow! Store update! THIS EARLY? WOAAAAAAAAHHHHH USUALLY ITS AT 8:00 (one time it was midnight)

Sweet I cant wait to– oh … nothing.. uh.. sweet. Kind of a small update… very small… tiny tiny tiny >.<

  • This wasn’t a good week for the PS Store!

  • Hope to see Mickey’s Wild Adventures PS1 the next year :D Nothing for me this week.

  • I played the demo of Rayman Origins the other day, looking at buying it today and it’s no where to be found on the store through alphabetical listings or performing a search! Where is it? Thank you

  • @blakseed
7 games. 7 platinums. See the theme :) Yes I have an offline account for playing games. This, my real account where all of my purchases are made from, is only for platinuming games for kicks. Which I don’t do often enough! I could knock out a couple more right now If only I had a PS3… As for being taken seriously? This is the internet man. Anyone who cares about being taken seriously here may have less of a life then myself. :p But in the spirit of the holidays I’ll put on my “serious face”…

Guess what? You’d never know it by looking at my trophy list but I’ve cleared 69 games this year. With lengths ranging from 40-some minutes to 50 hours. These games span across over a dozen different systems. These were games released over 20 years ago all the way up to ones put out within the past two months. Judging someone by a paltry list for a system with hundreds of games that don’t even have troph… oh hey the mails here with my $5 copy of Pilotwings Resort :o Gotta cut this short and find a place to squeeze it into my bookshelves :|

  • All Zombies Must Die it’s about time. I’ve been waiting on this. Take Care

  • Wine, wine, wine, Cheese, cheese, cheese.
C’Mon guys, With everyone getting games under their Xmas trees, im sure MOST of you are not planning on purchasing any more games for the rest of the year, so please, STOP THE MADNESS.
All Zombies Must Die, Splinter Cell and OddWorld, makes for a good update. And to top it off, we get Klonoa as a bonus. Please , PLEASE pick up Klonoa gamers. This is a real classic.
    As always, Keep On Gamin.

  • I thought I read a few weeks ago on here, the preview for Odd world said it was going to be $9.99?

  • @megamixer

You’re right. This is the internet. If you want to come on here every week playing the critic, breaking down numbers, and keeping track of “PS legacies” who am I to judge? I guess that’s your thing and if it makes you happy, then I’m happy for you.

Enjoy that copy of Pilotwings Resort you got there. Happy holidays.

  • MotorStorm Apocalypse for u$s 60? are you serious? For a digital copy? You can buy anywhere for less money, and get a physical copy, not a digital. cmon guys!

  • I am severely disappointed that motor storm is not only at full price as it is a PSN release, but its also roughly yer old now. Unacceptable…

In any case, you guys should just put up the other two motor storm up (that 3d thing isn’t a full game) on the store too, at acceptable prices!

  • Great! Now I can get Chaos Theory by itself. I love that game. Of course, I have a s***load of games in my backlog, so I guess I won’t be buying it in a while, but I’ll get to it eventually.
