PlayStation Store Update

Grace Chen's Avatar + Posted by Grace Chen on Jan 24, 2012 // Director, PlayStation Store

Hi Everyone -
This week sees the release of PSN Game Scarygirl. PS mini aficionados will be the first tell you about the magial, creepy-yet-cute world of Scarygirl with the first release which hit earlier last year. Now, this beautiful platformer series sees a new adventure in which Scarygirl must go on a journey to determine who the man haunting her dreams is. Based on the original graphic novel by Nathan Jurevicius, Scarygirl delivers a combination of fantastically unique visuals and classic side-scrolling gameplay.

Expect more from the PS3 Full Games category with new releases Duke Nukem Forever and Mortal Kombat hitting PlayStation Network today. In case you needed an introduction to these two pillars in gaming, Duke Nukem Forever marks the return of the FPS’s most tongue-in-cheek hero. Fight aliens and enjoy the one-of-a-kind humor that only playing a Duke Nukem game can bring.

Mortal Kombat also brings M-rated fun. Hailed as one of the best entries in the MK series, this entry sports great multiplayer (as always, play online free over PSN), and also contains a great new take on single player story telling in fighting games. And yes, this is the full PS3 version which contains Kratos as a playabe character.

You can also revisit the Italian Renaissance maps from Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, starting with the historic city of Firenze, traveling to the mountain sides of San Donato, and to spectacular night time Siena.

Finally, we’ve got a great deal hitting PlayStation Plus subscribers this week with a giant discount on the Capcom Super Pack! For just $12.50, snag 7 amazing Capcom games including Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix, Age of Booty, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD remix, and a handful more.

I see new icons for the 3D, Move, Avatars, and PSP game categories. Must be what caused the update to take so long. Strange how they just can’t spring for a PS1 icon and category under new releases. Some day. Some day…

By the way, your “12 for ’12″ sale didn’t run quite as long as advertised. :| A week sans roughly 2 hours is not a week!

Nice to see the latest PSP game bundles finally make their digital debut!

Why the heck is the Assassins Creed theme 15 mb? That’s a lot for one theme. And yeah the store had gradually been updating for the past few hours or so. Gotham City Imposters beta is up but I already had it. Got the scarygirl and Darkness II demos too and I usually don’t download demos.

It kinda killed my anticipation for this week’s update though. Kind of weak for me.

Late and uninteresting. If comment #4 is right about that being the reason for the late release, seems to be a stupid reason. Is it really that long to update icons? And for a lackluster release…. ehh. Whatever.

Actually its a lot like Team Fortress 2.

PSone Classics still needed: Die Hard Trilogy, MDK, Return Fire, Soul Blade, Tenchu

Also can anyone please tell my why I have to always sign-in to the blog before I can post? Why doesn’t it remember my info and just do it automatically like every other site in existence? I tired clearing out my cache and cookies, but that didn’t solve the problem.

Running Chrome atm, but the same thing goes for Safari on my ipad. It’s just infuriating sometimes!

No, no I meant that in jest! There’s no reason a few new icons could really be the cause of this late update.

Right?

@fijski8 & solo013
Sadly that is an age-old issue I doubt will ever be dealt with.

@ReptileHand
They pulled the same stunt with one (both?) of the PJ Shooters last year. PJ games used to come with demos on Day 1 (and they still do in Japan!) but they’ve since outgrown that way of doing things overseas.

@Everyone asking for Killzone
Seriously? I think the more important game we should be up in arms about is Daytona USA. It was supposed to come out this week! They even said so on The Drop! :p

I’ve given up hope that Suikoden II will ever see a PS1 classics release. But there are still plenty of other titles that would be welcome. It really seems a shame each time no new ones crop up. It’s not like there is any shortage of great PSX games.

Capcom Super Pack can’t be accessed on my account… Wtf is this nonsense, is it because i already own one of the games? What kind of logic is that. I guess they really don’t want people to buy their games. I guess my PS+ is pretty worthless too if i can’t even take advantage of the offered deals. What a joke. Makes this weak update even double as disappointing. I see less and less reasons to spend money on PSN after situations like this.
