PlayStation Store Update

Hi Everyone –
This week, the folks at Konami are excited to bring you the new PSN Release Puddle! Relying on the physics of water and other fluids (hot magma anyone?) in ever-evolving environments, you’ll need to guide the fluid flow with precision to get to the goal. While it seems like a simple concept, the gameplay requires a fun puzzle-focused mentality where you must tilt the entire environment, balancing the push of each fluid’s unique properties with the pull of environmental factors of gravity, friction, and obstacles. With PlayStation Move compatibility, and a demo available as well, Puddle is set to make a big splash on PlayStation Network.

You may have seen EA’s news predicting the Super Bowl winners with Madden NFL 12. If you haven’t picked up this year’s edition yet, you can set up your own Super Bowl match yourself as it’s now available in the PS3 Full Games category. Joining it is also Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, its predecessor Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, and Mini Ninjas. PlayStation Plus subscribers will have access to a 1 hour rental of all of these via Full Game Trials as well.

Twisted Metal fans; the big day is almost here. Although you won’t be able to buy the game until February 14th, the demo is now available to download! Get your hands on the new online multiplayer experience in classic Free for All or the all-new Nuke mode. In other demo news, Syndicate is also now available to try via a 4 player co-op demo.

Since the new PlayStation Plus content for February, announced earlier today, won’t be hitting until next week, this week is your last chance to get some of January’s free content like Back To The Future: The Game – Full Series, PS one Classics Syphon Filter 1-3, and PSN Game Sword and Soldiers. But with January’s final update for Plus subscribers, there’s plenty of new Full Game Trials as well as some great new free Avatars and Themes. Check out the Abstract Art theme in particular.

That’s all for this week. Check out the full details of this week’s update below, and let us know your thoughts in the comments below or join the discussion on the PlayStation Community forums in the Official PlayStation Store Update thread.

Here is the weekly PlayStation Store update:

  • Thanks for the update!

  • You had me at Squirrel Avatar

  • I hope we get some big sales for PSP games soon, I’ve put in my pre-order for the Vita and I want some cheap PSP games to play on it!

Also is there any word on when PSoneclassics will be playable on the Vita? I’ve probably bought more than 30 of those games and I’d love to play them on the vita’s screen soon.

    (PS2 classics too!)

  • I hate multiplayer-only demos. Oh well, better than nothin’ I suppose.

  • I guess they should have just skipped this week

  • I sure would like an Atlanta Braves MLB avatar. Still waiting. Haha

  • Nothing good.

When does the Mass Effect 3 demo come out? i ask because that demo is supposed to unlock some stuff for Kingdom of Amular Reckoning, which comes out next Tuesday.

  • I like my new B-Boy Stance

  • What happened to the HotShots Golf/Tennis PSP dual pack? In December 3 were announced, 2 were released last week. Did the hotshots one get cancelled? Was really hoping to see it today as its the last week in January and the post about them said they would all be out in January. :(

  • CTRL+F “Final Fantasy VII” (no results found)

What is this madness? Today is FFVII’s 15th anniversary. At the very least it should be on sale! What a shame. Maybe on September 3rd (the games US release date) they’ll rectify this oversight.

    In other news…

    PS1 Legacy – 157 | 1st PS1 Release: 12/03/06
    PS3 Legacy – 083 | 1st PS3 Release: 08/27/07

There are now more than half as many PS3 disc games on PSN as there are PS1 games. And this isn’t even counting HD Collection titles seperately, or games that were released on disc in other regions but not here. First the total amount of Minis surpassed the amount of PS1 games, now… probably by June… there will be more PS3 than PS1. Its quite unfortunate we can’t get an equal release of both game types as opposed to dripfeeding one, and flooding the other.

  • Its gonna be really stupid to release the Mass Effect 3 demo weeks after Reckoning comes out, when the demo itself unlocks stuff for Reckoning, which would have already been out and ppl would already be well into the game itself.

  • Sweet Update!

  • Twisted Metal!!!! My wallet thanks you for not having anything that I need to buy of interest. And with all that crazy stuff coming up for Plus, that trend will likely continue. Nice job everyone!

  • Great content this week. I can’t wait for the epic content next week!

  • WWE ’12 New DLC characters:

    – Batista
    – Brodus Clay
    – “Macho Man” Randy Savage
    – Mick Foley
    – Masked Kane

  • Thanks for another week of “meh” content :P

  • @Morgan Haro
I’m curious about something (not hating!).

Why aren’t the three games from the Prince of Persia HD Collection, and the three games from the Splinter Cell HD Collection listed in the store as “PS3 Full Games”? They were indeed released on discs here in north america. It seems like an odd oversight. All of the other HD Collection titles are listed as full PS3 games. :?

    • I’ll forward that one on. Basically if a game had a retail release and is now on the PS Store, it should be in the PS3 Full Games category

  • Update was alright nothing I really liked but it was good

  • Any idea when The Simpsons Arcade comes to PSN FOR NON + SUBSCRIBERS? AND HOW MUCH?

    • Comes out the same day Plus subscribers get it for free, so, next week on 2/7. Don’t know the price off the top of my head but more info will be coming.

  • So those of us that already have Vita’s, when can we start to use the store and download our PSP games?

  • TWISTED METAL!!!!!!!!!

  • TM demo be live and stuff. Giddy up!!!

  • hello Grace Chen,
do you know if Kingdoms of Amalur will be available on the PSN Store at some point?

  • Twisted Metal and TONS of new avatars! I like this update! Can’t wait for next week =)

  • Will the Killzone PS2 classic be up soon? Also, will the Metal Gear Solid HD games be available for download separately soon?

  • Hi Morgan, is their any news on when wheel of fortune will be returning to the store. Thanks

  • can kind of disappointment for KOFXIII avatars though but everything else is perfect :D

  • Whats this epic update of next week going to include eh?

  • @Sindred: You do realize that Twisted Metal has basically been a MP-only game since it’s inception, right? I mean, yes you can play it by yourself, but then you’re playing with bots. I’m sure the vast majority of people who are going to buy it are doing so with the main intention of playing it online. To release anything but a MP demo would have been stupid. If you’re really not interested in a MP demo of what is essentially a MP game, then don’t bother buying it, either.
This is all, of course, assuming that is the demo you’re talking about, since it’s the only one released this week that is listed as a multiplayer demo. >.>

Anywho, nice simple update for the week. Maybe I’ll grab Mahjong Tales for $5. Seems like a good price for it.

  • Put Call Of Duty – World At War for PS3 full game
so I can have cods on my system

  • TWISTED METAL! Good news for me at the job =P

  • I hope you guys are just getting the weakest update of 2012 out of the way, because this is weeeaaaaak.

  • I’m just going to download the Groundhog Day LittleBigPlanet content, I’m a little bit disappointed because I thought they were going to upload the Spacesuit costume as well…

By the way, where’s the Sonic Generations Casini Night add-on? I’m still waiting for it…

  • Oh yeah, on an editorial note, if you’re considering buying Kane & Lynch 2, here’s some free advice. Take your $20 and instead buy a nice and shiny new hammer and then smash yourself in the head and face a couple hundred times. The enjoyment quotient should favor beating yourself to death. You have been warned and you’re welcome.

  • Sorry, I meant the Casino Night mini game add-on for Sonic Generations…

  • Where is Legend Of Dragoon?!?! When will you release it in the US PSN Store?

  • K, gonna try asking again. Did the hotshots golf/tennis PSP dualpack get cancelled? 3 dualpacks were announced in december. 2 of those were on the store last week, with no mention of the hotshots one. They were all announced for January. Would really like to know if the last one is still planned or not. Thanks.

  • Lookin good :D

  • Do u know the status of PSP retail games being converted digitally for PSP owners who didn’t download the games. Similar to what Japan had, I’m sure a lot of us PSP owners want to play Crisis Core and Birth By Sleep on the Vita, any info would be much appreciated.

  • Do u know the status of PSP retail games being converted digitally for PSP owners who didn’t download the games.

  • U know the whole PSP retail to PSN version for Vita gamers that Japan has.

  • Are we going to see a special ‘Wednesday Publish’ of PSN on Feb 22nd for Vita stuff?
    I’m gonna have 32gigs I’ll need to fill…

  • You know, I’d love to see the PS Store background design (blue, with the waves) as a dynamic theme for PS+.

  • @41 I’m referring to this for Vita gamers.

  • i have read online that gta 3 and vc have been put on the esrb site for ps3. what do you have to say of this morgan haro? will gta 3 vc or sa ever be on ps store?

  • Why no Lakers 2012 Dynamic Theme? Also when will we see a Lakers avatar? Come on man…..how long do we have to wait for a simple NBA teams avatar, once PS7 comes out????

  • TM demo. Been waiting for it since it was announced.

  • Lol the Fat Boys are going to sue your butts Sony.

  • #42, great idea! But only if we can change the background color.
Also, let’s get that Life With PlayStation earth as a PS+ dynamic background. I read somewhere that it was scrapped as the default PS3 background in favor of the ribbon.
While you’re at it, rename the “original” background to “sparks” and release make “original’ instead have PlayStation button icons instead.
