Hi, everyone. We are releasing a new system software update (v4.10) for PlayStation 3 today that will include a few minor changes that we want to make you all aware of.
First off, once you download the new system software, you will be asked to accept a change to our Terms of Service. In an effort for more unity between PlayStation Network (PSN) and other Sony Entertainment Network services, your “PSN Account” will now be named “Sony Entertainment Network Account.” Please note that this change is one in name only and will not change the PSN that you know and love. You’ll still play games online, still have access to the latest downloadable games and add-ons, and still experience a wide variety of movies, sports and music across PSN.
With this system software update (v4.10), we’ll also be updating the PS3 Internet Browser with improved display speed.

what is going on??!!?? ever since this patch was downloaded i can no longer even start up certain games without being offline, which of course makes online play impossible. the games are older ones, as games like mw3 are still usable. i really need a reply here
Finally got it downloaded
First off. My Netflix loaded up with NO TROUBLE AT ALL.
My Headset works PERFECTLY FINE.
My PS3 turns on after the update… (red light means you bricked your system moron, not an update hurting your system)
What’s New loaded up. Took a few seconds the first time after the update. But now loads with NO delay.
If you kids would learn to take care of your system… you would not have all of the troubles you have. Keep it clean, keep it where the air flow is open to it. And don’t play on it for 12 hours straight. It is a damn computer… it needs a break. Use that pebble you call a brain instead of complaining all of the damn time.
Cross Game Chat IS NOT NEEDED. And do you know why? If you are not in a game with the people you want to talk to… then go to the game they are in. WOW AMAZING IDEA HUH? And if you are too damn lazy to pick up a phone to call a friend instead of.. boohoo I can’t CGC, you really need a life. SHUT UP ABOUT IT. Move on.
Thanks for the update Sony. No matter how small it may be, least your are doing updates. Fix things that need to be fixed, and don’t worry about all the crying. You can not please everyone. No matter what someone will cry.
Oh one last thing… for the one’s yelling about it taking forever to download. Get a better Internet Connection. Mine downloaded in under a minute. Once again… not Sony’s fault.

I called Sony PS support and they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix.
@Dimersak Just because you one of the lucky people that isn’t having issues, doesn’t mean we don’t take care of ours, heck, i probably take better care of mine then you do of yours. And what kind of headset do you have? this is an issue with with the sony bluetooth 7:1 surround sound headset, so if your talking about another headset, you should probably think before you talk. Don’t be one of those jerks who tries to sound smart and better than everyone else, because quite frankly, your not.
Well I checked and, nope, the Deus Ex HR dynamic theme is still super broken. It would be great if you guys could fix it in the next update… After all it’s not nice to sell something on your store that not usable by anyone and not allow your customers any refunds either since “all purchases on the PSN are final.” In fact I’m sure that has to violate one law or another.
But hey, no rush.
I really would like to see a way to organize our downloaded games in alphabetical order. This really seems very strange that we don’t have this option already. I can understand why you don’t want us to organize the demos because you don’t want us to feel we own them, but the game we are paying for is another story….
Some of us have bought hundreds if games and it’s a pain to try and figure out where a game is located in a long list “sorted by download date”. It would be laughable if it werent so sad!
Also, why are you not letting us delete empty Trophy slots created by those 60 min trials or other demos?
Having the slots for them will NOT make me want to buy them…. Just the opposite actually. It’s a bad tactic.
And lastly I am still very unhappy about the switch from 5 active PS3 systems down to 2….. A bit drastic IMO!
Some of us have multiple consoles just as we would have multiple DVD players or music receivers. If you want us to buy digital downloads over optical disc based then give us a few options to prove its a better medium.
@Dimersak not sure what your problem with us is. For starters I am no kid and my system runs fine. My beef is with the update that effects the Sony Wireless Stereo Headset. Just saying if it causes a player to go tone deaf, then there is an issue. This update seems like no one truly tested this headset fix or they would have caught the muting issue as well as not being able to switch the mic from before the update to the fix. Hopefully with all the uproar over this, Sony will fix it sooner then later.

It is spelled “you’re” And I never said I was smarter than anyone else. I am talking about the same Headset. I even tried two others, one of them being my blue tooth for my phone. I have had NO issues with any of them. So, I do believe… you should ALSO think before typing.

I am just frankly sick of people doing nothing but complaining. Report it, but don’t cry about it. It does no good and changes nothing. People flat out have no respect now a days. People think Sony revolves around the Playstation. When in fact, the PS is only a small part of Sony’s income and business. TVS, DVD PLAYERS, Computers… so on and so fourth.
So people need to realize the PS Users are not the ONLY people Sony has to deal with on a daily basis. And respect the fact that they are.. all while developing the new PS4 System, the Vita, TVS, PCS… and on and on, take the time to do the updates for us also, is something they should be happy about.
The browser has been improved and thank you I can now watch twitch.tv streams on my ps3 but that ends shortly before the browser freezes the whole damn console, hell even a google search will freeze it.
i updated as always but now my playstation headset is wacky i here everything in my room through my mike never happend before why is this others i know have same problem

@Dimersak Okay, if you want to get real technical, your writing is all academically incorrect, your grammar is awful. You don’t capitalize all letter in a word such as your “NO” and “ALSO”, because it shows emotion. Secondly, you don’t have multiple punctuations such as…… And thirdly, your not supposed to have contractions, such as don’t and what not, but everyone still uses them, why? Because we all make English mistakes. So to be correct, your reply has more errors then my reply to you. I never once said that you said you were “smarter then everyone else”, if you could actually read, you would have read that. And (i will do this for your sakes since you like to be technical but yet have more errors) you’re right about Sony having other stuff to sell, but they hire people to do certain things. The person they hire to design TV’s is not going to be working on the PS3 OS, they hire people to do just that, and they temporarily ruined many peoples stuff until they fix it, it should have been the OS devs to test it, and they were being lazy. So like I said, quit trying to act smart, it just is not working out that well for you.
ok again and im write until my problem is fixed my ps3 turns on but says hard drive corrupted file and will restore but when my system reaches 100% and restarts itself it says the same thing. Im currently stationed in south korea everything was working fine before i downloaded the update. I always keep my system clean im not a lil boy for that one kat that was always criticizing others for there problem. I need my system fixed and the problem was the update so whats going to happen
Note After the recent update. The Ps3 game Bulletstorm is broke. My disc is not scratched or anything. It loads up into the title where it says push start button. Yet if you push start nothing happens. However you can push the middle button on controller and it will bring up the sony menu thing. The game worked before the update.
I know what I would like better!!! To be able to play a $60 dollar game I bought (SKYRIM)……you know as in past 30 hours?

As I was saying though so we can stay on topic. Sony is in the middle of the Vita launch. What about the development of the new Playstation 4? Which will be using some old and new technology. So yes M3thodFud, they are trying their best.
I do realize people have issues. Things get broken, but as I said. Complaining does no good at all. The best thing to do is report it on every place that has to do with Playstation, then hope for the best. It is not like they can get online and read every post that is made. They do have many things on their plate.

@306: agree with you about the system limit in that it seemed like Sony didn’t want me to game on more than 2 consoles. I have a new, 3rd console & decided to play Kingdoms of Amalur on it, so I tried to buy the avatars & the theme but I wasn’t allowed to buy new stuff. I thought the restriction was to downloading content to only 2 consoles, but simply buying new content?! That’s cutting off their own noses. Anyway, I was going to come here & rant like a spoiled kid, but it was very easy to deactivate 1 console for game content & then activate new console. Nothing was lost on the deactivated console. Can still play online. Just store purchase is locked out until I reactivate.
Still, stupid to lock out ability to make new purchases. Only the downloading should be restricted to any 2 systems.
By the way, everyone, after 2 nights of Kingdoms of Amalur, Skyrim is looking even better. Wait for a big price drop to get KOA.

Result:
No feedback/reverb or static was detected.
It seems as though the feedback/reverb and static created by the update is specific to the SONY Wireless Stereo Headset.
Sony Playstation Division – you all can do better than this. Take pride in your company, your work, and your products and be better. Release a fix/option to turn off the feedback/reverb and poor connection quality (static).

We updated our 250GB PS3 last night, and it locked up twice while trying to watch two different YouTube videos, after about a minute or so of playing the videos. Tried it again today with the same results. What the heck is the point of having YouTube on the PS3 if the bloody videos won’t even PLAY?

Seems like the new update ether was never fully tested or ever went through quality assurance as the new browser update is very buggy with now the annoying pop up asking if you want to run this plug in. Not to mention the messing up the Wireless Stereo Headset that even the mute button doesn’t work. Not a good way to run a company without proper testing and QA.

ok, from what I’ve gathered in info, it’s NOT just happening to the Official Sony 7.1 Wireless Headset, theres been complaints coming from the odd Turtle Beach user as well, it appears to be an overall mic sensitivity setting.
honestly, I won’t be gaming at all until this is fixed, I played 1 match of MW3 & quit due to how awful it sounded. last thing I want is to deal with that horrible whitenoise/echo sound, let alone if MW3’s “audio EMP” went off, that’d shatter eardrums for sure. so, this be the beginning of my Sony games boycott, until the issue is resolved of course.
what I don’t get is how Sony released this update without stating it’d change headset functionality, or how it wasn’t tested. and the funniest part of it, they new firmware is normally posted day after update goes live, this time they didn’t…my guess is they know they fk’d up. either way, they’ll still have to post it sometime, as well as release notes & functionalities “improved”…that will be the script for Hollywoods next huge comedy.
worst of all is I WANT to game, but theres no way I’m going to tolerate the wretched white noise & echoes, so yea, temporary boycott it is…..sorry, Sony, <3 you guys, but no way are we consumers accepting this crap.
im glad the update actually fixed a the browser and made it useable. that being sid i think theres a problem though uncharted drakes fortune froze on me twice and its the first time i ve had a game freee on me since i bought the slim 2 years agio can you please address

What does it mean when the system resets itself and says “insert the controler using the USB cord and press the PS butten” but when i do that my controller don’t turn on but the red lights on the controller are flashing like its ready to turn on?

This is the response you will get if you reported this issue. Sad fact is that this change was never once mentioned on the update or even before this. This truly shows how bad Sony PSN is being operated these days to release an update that was never fully tested out to see if it even works properly in the first place. Let alone ask us if we truly wanted this change.

Looks bad that no one caught this huge bug or issue before the release of the Update.
This FW update messed up my Playstation Stereo Headset. I now have a loud hissing sound and I can hear voice through the speakers. Please fix, thanks.
in stead of updating browsers .you should check and make sure all the games are running in psn.LIKE BOOTLEGGER 29.its been down for at least 36 hrs and counting.you can go into lobby but not into the game itself.i am not there to talk i’m there to kill and collect barrels.lol

as usual, sony doesn’t add the update to their web page. they always tell you to use your ps3. what if you have 2 systems? it is a hell of a lot easier and faster to download the update from a mac or pc. the ps3 sucks at downloading updates, it is too damn slow. no matter what internet provider you have. sony reps are given a scripted response to questions about pc downloads, they will tell you, it is to make sure there are no problems with the software. WHAT THE HELL? if they have doubts about the update, why release it?
just as soon as i left that message/comment. sony updates their web page. i swear!!! these guys need to get organized. it is still a day late and a dollar short. i wasted over an hour on the phone with support yesterday.
SONY needs to move this back to the front page and actually comment on it.
Thanks for improving the web browser. Popular sites such as facebook, google, youtube, eBay, etc are all working better on the browser now. That’s nice for those of us who have family members who hog the home pc.
But….it should be noted that I still had to post this comment using a pc. The update didn’t help with this site…(unable to sign in). IMO, it seems kinda silly that I can’t use my SONY PS3 to interact with the official SONY PS3 website.(?) Just sayin’. :P

The new firmware 4.10 added mic monitoring to the Sony PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset. Was this ittentionally added or is it just a glitch due to the new firmware?
In the next update could please address the issue of letting those who have sub-accounts upgrade to a master account?
