Grand Slam Tennis 2 Moves to PS3 Today

Hey everyone, Nate McDonald here, one of the producers for EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis 2. This is an exciting post for me to write because after a lot of hard work by a great group of people here at EA Canada, we are ready to launch this franchise to you on the PlayStation 3 platform!

Grand Slam Tennis 2 Moves to PS3 Today

Given that this was our first venture into the tennis genre on next gen, we really wanted to focus on developing a well-rounded title, with fun and innovative controls, high quality detailed graphics and presentation for all of the players and courts, and enough feature depth to keep you coming back for more, whether it be single player, multi-player, or online.

I have to say that developing our All-New Total Racquet Control system was the most challenging, but also ended up being the most rewarding. We are really proud of this new innovative control scheme, and although it will take a little bit of practice to get used to it, we think that you will really enjoy the amount of fidelity that you have in the controls and how precise you can be. Don’t forget, that feeling of control can be taken one step further with the PlayStation Move controller. It will literally feel like you are playing with a racquet in your hands!

Throughout the development process, we had some amazing head-to-head matches and tournaments within the team. It was a great environment to be a part of and many classic matches and rivalries were created as a result. With these realistic controls, and the ability to battle head-to-head online we hope you will develop your shots, battle against opponents all over the globe, and create some cool memories of your own.

EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis 2 is now available on PlayStation 3. It is the exclusive home of Wimbledon and features PlayStation Move support, over 20 of the greatest past and present players, a deep 10-year career mode, a wide variety of online gameplay features including EA SPORTS Game Face technology, and lots more.

  • I had my hopes up for this game after top spin and Virtua Tennis didn’t put move controls in the same vein as sports champions, true 1:1 controls. Then the demo for this comes out and its not true 1:1 either. When will the makers of Sports Champions make a tennis game with the controls like table tennis in sports champions where I can replicate a real world swing and get the desired effect. Not a button press or gesture based game. I will wait til this one hit the bargain bins around october/november.

  • once again another disappointment for a ps3 move tennis game. i don’t understand why developers are so lazy to use the move properly.
they need to realize that ps3 users are not wii users.

maybe sony should hire zindagi as a ps3 move developer that can check other companies products for 1:1 ps3 move games.

EA you failed at making a tennis game for ps3 move. I hope you are able to patch it. Just ask Zindagi for help.

There are many ps3 move owners, waiting for a tennis game.

You could also ask Zindagi for help to make a PS3 Move Fight Night game as well. You don’t have to change anything, just incorporate move controls. How hard is that ?

And while I’m at it, Sony, you need to get to work on the Eyedentify game you teased us with years ago !

  • Is there any Djokovic in this one?

  • most of EA sports games suck now it might be because there making RPG and shooters now there not focusing on the sports games as much and NFS games havent been good since carbon or wanted they should just sale there sports & racing games to someone that will make it good…just my opinion tho

  • I’m interested to hear about a patch or new iteration of EA Sports Active that includes Move support. UFC Ultimate Trainer comes close to EA Sports Active’s accuracy and capability, but lacks the variety of exercise and reasonable approach to warmup/stretch. I’d really like to see an exercise game that didn’t just repeat random speech clips, but notices my form is off (“go a little lower”, “you’ve gone too far left”, etc) and it seems like EA Sports Active is in a unique position to provide that level of interactivity with its peripherals and the addition of Move support.

Both myself (early 30s) and my mom (late 50s) both really like Sports Active and are excited for a new version with better tracking, graphics, and audio quality.

PS: Adding the “water break” feature from Get Fit With Mel B, and some of the Yoga and Pilates content from Fit in Six would make Sports Active the ultimate interactive exercise product.

  • @4

EA Games and EA Sports are different divisions . In fact each sports game has it’s down development team .

  • If this game & post was so “exciting”, why didn’t GST 1 come to PS3 the first time around?

    hold that.

  • I only hope this game doesn’t have the same issues as NHL 12. I often have problems to load my savegame (and have to reboot my PS3 to get out of the load screen) and there are some freezing issues that happens online as well as in single player games! I don’t know what you’ve done with this year’s version of NHL 12 but there are some problems in it that never happened in any of the previous versions…

  • Thank you to 1 & 2 comments, I guess I won’t be getting this game…
I want true move control tennis game!

  • Sony/EA: I hope you are listening to the folks that want 1:1 tracking, just like Sports Champions. I was a day-one PS3 Move buyer. Sports Champions was above my expectations, especially since it was a launch title.

Yet no sports games seemed to have progress beyond the brilliance of Sports Champions. While it’s understandable that some folks (kids, Wii players) would want simpler, gesture-based control, many of us do not. We invested in the Move because of its precision.

It’s certainly not the technology. Zindagi had it right. I would think EA would have the budget to make a game like Grand Slam Tennis 2 *and* satisfy the folks who want advanced tracking.

It would be also be nice to see a full-fledged disc golf game. Make a deal with Discraft or Innova, get real flight models in there with the variety of plastics and disc shapes.

The technology is there, the buyers are here and waiting. Please make it happen!
