The Drop: Week of February 27th 2012 New Releases

Rey Gutierrez's Avatar + Posted by Rey Gutierrez on Feb 26, 2012 // Senior Social Media Specialist

The most talked about demo on PSN finally arrives in its full glory and with exclusive access to Mount Fuji, when SSX returns and performs a “front-side switch ollie” onto your PS3.

The unique multiplayer experience of Killzone 3, sheds the single-player campaign and arrives solo onto the PlayStation StorePS Vita demos come in fours this week, with Touch My Katamari and Reality Fighters leading the pack. And PlayStation 2 classics brings Primal to PSN.

Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

SSX – Redefining the franchise, SSX pits riders against both mountain and man. Players explore the story of a team who seek to be the first to descend the faces of the most treacherous mountain ranges on the planet. The team travels the world to face the worst that Mother Nature can throw at them. From the peaks of the Himalayas, where the air is so thin that riders have to descend through the death zone at breakneck speeds to keep from blacking out, to the solid ice ranges of Antarctica, where a sunlit line is the only survival option when temperatures drop 50 degrees centigrade in the shade. And the mountain isn’t the only danger players will face. In SSX the first goal is to survive. The second, in true SSX fashion, is to look good doing it.

Binary Domain – Binary Domain puts players in the middle of a fast paced and intense battle for humanity in a robot-invaded 2080 Tokyo. Fighting through the derelict lower levels of the city, players control an international peace-keeping squad that soon starts to question their surroundings and the choices they make. Are the robots becoming more human, or are humans becoming more like machines?

Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk-II – Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 is a sequel to Hyperdimension Neptunia and contains brand new main characters, as well as returning characters, and the gameplay has been updated so as to remove the random encounter feature. New maps and a brand new world feature as well, and the cut scenes have been upgraded to 3D from the old 2D visual novel style cut scenes.

Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition – After centuries of Mortal Kombat, Emperor Shao Kahn has finally defeated Raiden and his allies. Faced with extinction, Raiden has one last chance to save Earthrealm. To undo the Emperor’s victory, he must strike Shao Kahn where he is vulnerable…the Past. The pumped-up Komplete Edition of this blockbuster fighter includes a variety of add-on packs, including four additional characters and 15 bonus character skins.

PlayStation Network

Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest (Full PS3 Digital / PS Move Support) – From the same team that brought you Sports Champions, one of the best selling Move titles, Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest is a fantasy, action adventure game that is played with PlayStation Move that uses a unique set of motion control functionality, allowing players to seamlessly transition between throwing projectiles, sword fighting and archery for an intuitive and immersive gameplay experience.

Killzone 3: Multiplayer – In the wake of Visari’s death, Helghan has devolved into a world of political scheming, rapid infighting, and murder. Now, the two most powerful men on Helghan are fighting for complete and utter dominance while Visari’s vision of Helghan is in jeopardy. With limited supplies and no re-enforcements, the ISA must now fight not to win a war, but to survive a lost one.

StormThis is a puzzle game in which players grow seeds into trees by guiding them through nature-themed levels. Players can use wind, lightning, and rain to transport seeds past obstacles while reaching various checkpoints.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Full PS3 Digital) – To save his life, the fundamental choice of whether or not to become augmented with cybernetics has been removed from Adam Jensen’s life. Driven by the conviction of never having a choice taken from him again and using his newfound power, his need for answers will unravel the truth behind a conspiracy rooted in the foundation of the world around him as it incites a new revolution.

PlayStation 2 Classics

Primal – Primal lies in a dark, fantastical realm between the mortal world and the afterlife, where an eternal struggle between order and chaos rages. Abaddon (Chaos) has tired of his personal conflict with Arella (Order) and is breaking the rules. It’s up to you, as half-demon Jennifer Tate, to team up with Scree the Living Gargoyle to bring Abaddon down and set things right again. Boasting state-of-the-art motion captured animation, advanced AI routines, and integrated cutscenes, Primal offers players four diverse realms and four unique demon forms to toy with. The ability to switch between Screen and Jen on the fly should prove invaluable for solving puzzles and the dynamic loading technology keeps disc access to a minimum.

Sweet, more PS Vita demos. I want to point out that you guys gotta fix up the Netflix app. It’s not letting us playing titles we want to watch. Also, I can’t view my pictures on the Flickr app.

@43 gameman15

The addition of PS2 Classics has pretty much shut the door on an emulator for PS2 titles ever being released on PS3. so don’t expect one. We may see one on PS4, but as things stand no such emulator will be provided this late in the game with the PS4 coming next year (or even for the sake of argument the year after).

Also saying “Software Emulation” is either redundant or inaccurate terminology. An emulator is software and an emulator runs software from another platform by emulating its hardware.

I agree what’s with the discrepancy between the SCEE and SCEA PS2 Classics?

We’ve mostly received bargain bin lots. Seems like a huge missed opportunity by Sony here.
Why release rubbish no-one played to begin with?
By calling them ‘Classics’ you are doing a huge disservice to the legacy of the PS2. If PS3 was someone’s first Sony (or otherwise) console, this is the selection you bring forth to emulate (pun intended) the best of the era?

Best to rename it PS2 ‘Yeah, This One Works Put This One On PSN’ if this continues.

What about AceCombat series, GTA series, SSX series, Star Wars Battlefront, Okami, Freedom Fighters, Hitman, Final Fantasy?
This is what I remember playing. Not Full Spectrum Warrior. Or it’s sequel…..

Some excellent choices there. Klonoa 2 is at the top of my list. Hell, would love to see this game on a ps vita, the awesomeness would be off the charts.

I too was expecting to find the Gravity Rush / Daze demo on the PSN store, and was sorely disappointed. That game is the game I was looking forward to most and after playing a bit of the demo at my local brick & mortar store, pushed me over the edge to buy the PS Vita even though the game isn’t out yet (at least I would get to play the demo for a while).

Any timeframe for the Gravity Rush demo coming out? It’s already on the PSN of other regions (I’m assuming that’s how the retailers have it on their Vitas, though it is a bit misleading!), I really want to play it…

its funny , i sit here and read what people say about the drop and every week when psn brings out the wekly drop its useally all crap , sure there is maybe one game people will get up and go out and buy or even rent to try the game out . i do it , but looking what comes on the store is dissapointing , like the ps2 classics in a way , out of the games that are now out on it there is maybe one that i played witch was god hand and i never liked it , but when i frist heard that psn was bring ps2 games onto the store i was like yes , kingdom hearts , dot.hack , hitman , simpsons but every week nothing , just games that poeple could care less about. so how about it psn why not bring some games out that people meaning the people who probley pay your bill some games that we can enjoy playing aging.

PS2 Classics Need Dark Cloud 2 since I can’t play my copy on my ps3 since I got a new ps3, Klonoa 2 because it was literally impossible to find. Took my bro 4 years to find then a young cuzz came while we were not home and scratched it till it doesn’t work and won’t fix :(. Also Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, Crash Nitro Kart and Crash Twinsanity because those were good and I seen Crash B: wrath of Cortex on a competitors network which means it’s possible to get on yours. I can’t play my CNK which is why I want that, but I really want to try Crash Twinsanity (if that’s the correct name :P) :) please sony. I can assure you atleast 15 friends of mine that would buy atleast 3 of the games named

Hey Sony :)

I know you guys are doing what you can right now, but is there any chance we may see some more of the old time PS1 and PS2 “greatest hits” coming out for the PSN anytime soon? I am not sure what Sony’s though process is, but I am sure games like Okami, Kingdom Hearts (1)(2)(Chain of Memories), Legend of Dragoon, Mega man (5)(8)(X series), and Devil May Cry (1)(2)(3)games would be more tantalizing to the PS3 and new Vita audience :) Especially until more Vita games come out!

If companies need to get e-mails from customers for you to get this stuff, then could anyone give me some e-mail addresses so i can start a streamline of requests?

1 how come never are the playstation plus items added to the drop!

2 will sony ever drop the prices of psp games? what I mean is 39.99 for soulcaliber broken destiny YIKES!!!!
in my opinion a cross the board price cut on all digital PSP games is needed. have someone, scout used prices and price accordingly C’MON you want us the people to embrass digital give us a reason!!!!!

3 PLEASE SONY if you can’t make ps3/ps2 games vita compatible I understand!, But PSN EXCLUSIVES would make sense and NOT only look great but would AlSO function great with the second thumb stick!!!

Quick question…

How exactly is this “Komplete” version of Mortal Kombat any different than the one we have now? Isn’t it just a repackaging (new disc art, new cover art) of the original one with DLC “included” most likely as vouchers?

And $59.99 MSRP and the original is still at like $59.99?! o_O
I guess it was planned to phase out the original and replace it with this? So basically, this is NetherRealm Studios giving everyone who got the original and all the DLC a big middle finger in the face.

I mean this is like Capcom and re-releasing a fighting game, but these guys are just lazy and had the nerve to release it at the $60 price tag.

COME ON!

If they expect us to get back into the MK franchise, then how about treating us better?

Does the “Komplete” version even include any new characters and skins that aren’t already available?

+ xxnike629xx on February 27th, 2012 at 9:12 am said:

Anyway, from this “Drop”, I think I will only be getting Binary Domain, but I’m going to wait for at least 1 price drop since I feel it isn’t really a $60 after playing the demo. It feels more like a $40 or $50 game.
