PlayStation Store Update

Grace Chen's Avatar + Posted by Grace Chen on Feb 28, 2012 // Sr. Director, PlayStation Store

Hey everyone,
This week we’ve got great new PSN experiences to highlight, including new PSN Games, a great new way to access a killer multiplayer experience, and the return of a cult classic.

Click here to see the full list of nominees and vote on best PSN Indie!

This week also marks the start of the 2012 Gamers’ Choice Awards! Vote on your favorite PSN releases from 2011 by going to the PlayStation Store and select your favorite from each category. Each of the nominees were selected based on their ratings from you, the players. Voting is open for one week. Then next week, the winners of each category will go on sale. The power is in your hands; vote now! Vote at psngamerschoiceawards.com to select your favorite PSN Indie. Then check out the rest of the nominees on the PlayStation Store.

Last year, Killzone 3 exploded on the scene with an unforgettable single player campaign and a fantastic multiplayer mode. Now, that same great multiplayer mode is available as a stand alone download! Take arms and dive into visceral firefights online with PSN players from around the world. Check out the unique objective based missions in which you and your squad compete against another online squad for control of blisteringly detailed environments. It’s an epic multiplayer experience with no charge to play online on PSN. The Killzone 3 Multiplayer Mode is free to play up to level 20. If you want more, purchase the full mode from the PlayStation Store. PlayStation Plus subscribers, however, can get the full mode 50% off for 1 month starting today.

To round off the PSN Games, don’t forget to check out new PS3 Full Games this week include Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest. As noted earlier this week, Primal is debuting in the PS2 Classics collection. Read up on this PS2 favorite which is now available to download.

It’s the last week of February and that means it’s your last chance to download some of the best free and discounted content in PlayStation Plus! In addition to the aforementioned 50% discount on the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Mode, February also sports great free content like The Simpsons Arcade Game and Final Fantasy V. Additional free content hit Plus in February with games like Battle Fantasia, Inferno Pool and Fatal Inertia.

Well DUH Elvick and that’s why the laser is under stress to read through that thick crap and wears it out fast. Most I had a laser last me was 9 months and that was it. Since I switched to 99% of the time playing digital games my ps3′s both of them have both the slims have made it past a year and still run like new. Digital is just overall better.

You just suck at taking care of equipment it seems, just like I suck at not hitting post before I actually start my post. Many people have had PS3s and use them heavily without issue.

I’m not against digital dist., but you technically do not own the games you are paying for that way. One day all of that money you spent downloading those games could all be for nothing if something should happen to your account be it there fault or your own. Worst part is there wouldnt be much you could do about it because you agreed to their ToS which clearly removes responsibility from them if you’ve read it.

@Sevyne Nothing happens to games you’ve purchased if anything happens to your account. That only affects “Free” PS+ games. I could cancel my PSN account right now and continue playing my “Purchased” digital games for as long as my PS3 continues to function. And I do own the games… I can pull out my hard drive and hold it in my hands too, Just like you hold the disc-based versions. Blu-ray games are digital too… its all code on that disc. Same as the code on my HDD.

113

+ Sevyne on February 29th, 2012 at 12:55 am said:

No you do not own your digital copies of games. as per the Terms of Service you agreed to, you are paying for “permission” to play those games and under circumstances of there’s or your own can be taken away from you. I’m just giving you the facts. It doesn’t mean I’m against downloadable games (I have plenty on my PS3 and Vita), but to say that we should move to ALL digital distribution is a fool’s request.

Hope someone reads this, because I want you to know that the Leap Year PS+ theme is now my favorite, and I’ve been involved in PS3 since Black Friday 2010, and Plus since January 2011. Deep, vibrant colors, a dark backdrop, an interesting but unobtrusive focus, and, most importantly, everything is legible. Primary colors are a winner with me, and this theme has everything right for appealing to my sensibilities. Not since the 15th Anniversary Static Theme have I been so satisfied in one of these. Good work!

On the other side of things, why can’t I (or the others on my PS3) vote for Best Indie? (And on a side note of this other side, why would you go along with putting Prologus up for vote? Yes, it’s technically a standalone title, but it’s effectively a demo for [duodecim], and it’s three bucks. Would have much preferred to see Corpse Party; my little sister’s enjoyed that’n, so it’d’ve been nice to grab a copy for her account.)

Kinda a lack lustre week for me. Aah well, I guess it doesnt matter as I still have Twisted Metal to play while I wait for my CE of Mass Effect 3 to arrive.

Also, regarding digital copies vs blu ray copies of games, I see no problem in owning either of them. My Blu ray disc player still works perfectly well, but I still have 35 games on my HD (6 of them are full disc games). Thank goodness I upgraded my HD from a 120 GB to a 500 GB.

BTW, to whomever said that owning the hard drive is like owning a regular copy, please note that if you want to re-install your hard drive after taking it out, you have to format said hard drive, so no, it is not the same!

Hey I’ve been wondering, what about the TurboGrafx 16 games? You guys released a set of them last yar and they were terrific ports with some great options like save states. They were priced right too. But you guys never really advertised them and they don’t seem too popular. I’d like to see more of them released like the Japanese PSN got. I think you should give them their own section in te store. This was a great addition that you guys added and I think it deserves more advertisement. I appreciate that you guys got Hudson to release what they did, but mroe games would be great.

I think a lot of people ho appreciate older games would lvoe this, and they’d sell better if they had more exposure.

Bought the fu king vita for the price of a ps3 for almost a week now and still no sign of the app I want ( where the ucking is my Skype app ? ) sony. U brought up commercial, ads, youtube videos, everything to set up a dam lie for this piece of crap ita ? Two months after launch and still nothing has been done to improve the value of the system itself but in the other hand a bunch of craps DLC is coming out for games ? are u kidding me ? i truly disappointed in you son, or should I say ( son geeks … ) just stick to your commitment and quit fooling around or I am gonna return the package soon.
there is really no point in getting the vita really, I tried it so I know what I am stating :

Yeah, I was going to buy KZ3-MP for $7.50 and the discount price isn’t up there anymore…I’m guessing this is just a glitch? Your post said this discount will last for a month.

Well, thanks for letting us play until level 10 for free! Guess I’ll keep checking back until the discount comes back up.

Thanks for offering this at such an awesome discount for PSplusers!

_ Interface : really hard to try to drag app from background to background.
_ App : no skype ( no free calling ) the vita can’t be used a phone even though it carry 3g technology. Shame
_ Media : video format is a joke seriously ( for the price of a ps3, but couldn’t handle as much as what the ps3 can )
_ Transferability : couldn’t be able to put other file format into vita unless the exact type. ( no point for a big memory card after all ),
_ Video and Music : unable to skip to next video/song by pressing shoulder buttons ( L and R ) like psp, can not change the name title right on vita, can not group v/s, can not search v/s, can not create Playlist for songs, no visualize effect when playing song.
_ Photo : cannot take HD photo neither video. WHAT THE POINT OF HAVING AND OLED SCREEN and a so-called powerful chip the has double power than apple’s ? GET YOUR FACT RIGHT
