Trophy Hunters: Here Are Your Top 10 Platinums

Platinum Trophy

PlayStation Network Trophies have been around since 2008, engendering legions of “Trophy Hunters” (I’ve heard a other names as well). The most elusive prey for these digital treasure seekers is the Platinum Trophy. For the uninitiated, most “full size” retail games reward players who completely unlock a long list of in-game accomplishments with a Platinum Trophy attached to your PSN ID. At a glance, it’s the quickest way to suss out a fellow gamer’s skill – while anyone can rack up the bronze Trophies, most Platinums require a mix of skill and dedication. Out of the 2000+ trophies I’ve earned, only 3 are Platinum. It’s still more than Sid.

A few weeks ago, PlayStation Blogcast listener John M. asked us: Are you able to tell us the top 5 or 10 games that have been “platinum’d” or competed 100%?

We dug around the servers, and here’s the list, ranked by total Platinum Trophies earned:

  1. Assassin’s Creed II
  2. Modern Warfare 2
  3. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  4. God of War 3
  5. Resident Evil 5
  6. inFamous
  7. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
  8. God of War (GoW HD Collection)
  9. Borderlands
  10. Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (The Sly Collection)

Analyzing the list, I noticed some interesting trends:

  • These are good games – The average Metacritic score for the above games is 89 – so it’s a good bet that these games are of high enough quality that gamers are all too happy to fully explore them to find every last collectible (Assassin’s Creed II, Sly 1), or are willing to play through multiple times on the hardest levels to earn those Trophies (Uncharted, Modern Warfare, God of War)
  • Big sellers – We’re looking at total Platinum trophies here, so it stands to reason that games that have sold a lot of copies would have been Platinum’d a lot. That’s probably why you don’t see CSI: Fatal Conspiracy or Hannah Montana: The Movie on this list, even though they are known to be easy to Platinum.
  • Few multiplayer Trophies – None of the games listed have the dreaded “Hit Level 50 Rank in Multiplayer.” Even the multiplayer-heavy Modern Warfare 2 saves most of its Trophies for the campaign and Spec Ops missions. I think this is why you see Assassin’s Creed II on this list, and not AC: Brotherhood, which introduced Multiplayer to the series (and associates 10 Trophies with this mode, many of which are tough to get). Take note, developers!
  • These games are a couple of years old – The newest game on this list is Sly Cooper & the Theivius Raccoonus from The Sly Collection, which came out last year. The rest of the games are from 2009 or before. My theories: it takes a lot of time to grind through everything there is to see and do, and with most of these games now value-priced, many people are still picking these up and embarking on their road to the Platinum even today.

With these criteria in mind, here are a few titles I expect to see on this list a year from now: Skyrim, Jak & Daxter, another Call of Duty title, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Yup, with Trophies now on PS Vita, there’s be a whole new frontier for Trophy Hunters to explore. We’ll check back again in about a year’s time.

Happy hunting!

  • Here are the games I got a platinum trophy on so far:

    – WWE Legends of WrestleMania (it was a really good game with a great roster of superstars from when I was as a kid like Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, The Rock, and The Old School Undertaker. But I feel kinda sad that nobody plays this game online anymore, oh well)

    – X-Men Origins Wolverine Uncaged Edition (in my opinion, it’s a really fun movie-based game. And I know that the movie has a lot of negative reception from every single hardcore Wolverine fan, but as a casual comic fan, I kinda liked them both)

    – Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection (I always remember my brother and I playing our dad’s Sega Genesis when we were kids, it was surely great to play those games again)

    – EyePet (when I’m out of ideas of what next PS Move game I should get, I got EyePet. I know for one thing that the challenges are a little too easy to get a gold medal on, and the trophies are also a little too easy)

  • I have 4 Platinums:

    LEGO Indiana Jones 2
    LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean
    LEGO Star Wars III
    Saints Row: The Third

… not sure what this says about my taste for games.

  • MP_is_for_Chumps

Thanks for your reply jeff, but i didnt do a very good job of explaining it lol

Basically all the Platinum Avatars would be stored in a segregated section of the PlayStation Store. When you sync your trophies after getting a plat you would automatically get a code to downland your new avatar directly from PSN.

I think there’s a thread on it in the official forums if you wanna know more but thanks for this post man. It’s good to see that you guys play as much as us :)

  • I agree on the multiplayer trophies!! Keep them away! Very annoying to have those in games.
I don’t mind if they are in the DLC but having those “reach max level in multiplayer” ones in the initial release of the game are really annoying…

Also, why was the Trine 2 trophy list so disappointing?! They were mostly just silly and just a bunch of gold ones… ?!

  • You guys should do a ‘Top 10 Hardest Platinum Trophies Earned’. I guarantee you……GUARANTEE YOU….that Call of Duty: World At War will be #1 for being the hardest. OMG, I remember the unlimited grenades like it was yesterday!!

  • I have The Sly Collection, Infamous and Ratchet & Clank future a crack in time platinum trophies. In The Sly Collection, I beat all Sly Cooper games including the PS Move mini games (I also beat them on the PS2 as well) cause those Sly games rules!!!!

  • I’ve been close to getting my first platnium for a year now I havent gottten around to beatin the last 3 levels of Uncharted though. I lose interest then I don’t bother playing it again cause me have ADD. Also im reading in all these recent forums and blogs ppl losing games either they payed for or got threw PS plus after renewing there membership even before it runs out but as soon as there new one starts all there games are gone even off the download list Sony has some issues to fix and their tech staff are well aware of this problem. From the posts I read in the forums section even going as far as to blame it on the group we do not speak of (A#@#$mous).I’m worried its going to happen to me then they give me the run around with lies. I dont know if Sony is aware but when you lie you make baby jesus cry.

  • I’ve only got 2 from that list (MW2 and GoW III). My other 5 platinums are Burnout Paradise, Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, WipEout HD, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, and Killzone 2.

I also would love to see a “Top 10 Least Platinumed” list or something like that. I can almost guarantee that WipEout HD will be on there. It’s easily the hardest platinum I’ve earned.

  • The only platinum trophies I remember getting is Fallout 3 and assassins creed 2. Sssooo close to getting Batman Arkham Asylum and Bad Company 2 platinum.

  • Thanks for posting this info Jeff.

My first plat was ACII. Pretty easy to get if you collect items as you go, so you didn’t need to go far out of your way to get it. The other three I have are God of War III, FF XIII (this one was brutal to grind through to get) and Dragon Age: Origins.

Close on a handful of others such as inFamous, Uncharted, and Killzone 3. For these it is pretty much finishing off the hardest mode and that is it. All the collectible stuff is already done. Just need to find the time and motivation to beat a game I already have with so much else to play.

Right now focusing on Skyrim. Don’t think I’ll beat 98 hours to do it, but I’ll get there.

  • Forgot to ask…will you be posting the top 100% games that don’t have platinums (mostly PSN titles I believe)? I am curious to see which are the most popular out of all the great PSN downloadable games.

  • Ohh YES!

The only ones I don’t have yet are:

    Resident Evil 5
    inFamous
    God of War HD Collection
    Borderlands

Gonna get those soon! I have more trophies than you btw Jeff :P

  • it may not show on my main account but on my BBonager account I have the platinum for Tron Evolution. i also have the platinum’s for sly 1 and 2 and so close to 3

  • im sooooooooooooo close to my first trophy, inFamous im around 80% soooooooooooo close..but the last 3 are impossible. especially when they’re all stunts you gotta perform with no one to fight in each district once you’ve beaten it..

  • I only got these platinum’s:

    Batman: Arkham Asylum
Ratchet and clank: A crack in time
    Assassin’s Creed 2
    Sly 1,2,3
    infamous 2
    uncharted 2
    Assassin’s creed brotherhood
    sonic and sega all-stars racing
    Sonic generations

And i got 100% trophies on:
    Sly minigames
    infamous festival of blood

  • I love this post! We should have more trophy related statistics available to us, fun stuff.

I own all those games, but I only have 7/10 of the platinums. Only 1 more trophy for GoW I(beat in under 5 hours) for platinum. RE5 and GOW III, I will come back to later. Like someone else said. There’s too many games to play, I usually just play to the credits and come back to platinum a game usually a year or two later. Nice motivation to revisit a good game.

  • Yay, I have 6 of these – 23 platinums total! =P Glad you told developers to take note about not making it a career trying to get some crappy online multiplayer trophies, I’m fine with simple online trophies taking an hour or two to get, but my goodness, sometimes miltuplayer trophies prevent the entire platinum whatsoever because of one crappy bronze trophy!!! (GTA IV)

  • I’m surprised InFamous 2 isn’t on there. I think that’s a fairly easy game to platinum compared to the original game (which cracked the top 10). I’ve earned 5 platinum trophies thus far:

    Sly 1
    Sly 2
    InFamous 2
    Mass Effect 2
    Saints Row: The Third

  • Ive got 58 platinums myself so I wont list them all here. But I do take pride in the fact I’ve never gotten a platinum in a game I didn’t love.

Some of the more satisfying platinums I’ve ever gotten were Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Castlevania: Lord of Shadows, Just Cause 2, The Saboteur, Red Faction: Guerrilla, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and The Eye of Judegement.

    How about everyone else????

  • I don’t have any platinums. I’m pretty close on God of War and God of War II, only need two more trophies. Trouble is, I’m busy working on a Master’s Degree and I don’t have all that much time to play anymore.

  • I have all 3 of the Sly Cooper games’ plats.I also have ME2, Sims 3, WWE Legends of Wrestlemania, SvR 2010 and Saints Row 3 and LA Noire plats.

  • Ok Jeff keep it up. My list of Plats
    Infamous
    Uncharted 2
    Tomb Raider Underworld
    Tomb Raider Anniversary
    Tomb Raider Legend
    Tekken 6
    Metal Gear Solid 2 HD
    Metal Gear Solid 3 HD
    God of War
    God of War II
    God of War III
    Little Big Planet
    Dead Nation
    Resident Evil 5
    Prince of Persia
Prince of Persia 2 The Warrior Within
    Bayonetta
    Castlevania Lords of Shadows
    Final Fantasy XIII
    Mass Effect 2
    Dante´s Inferno

  • I have 19 plats. I am at level 19 with 50% done. I find SOME silvers to be as hard or harder than golds to get. I would like a plat for every level I am at. (I’m sure will try!!)

If anybody wants to compare trophys or talk games friend me.

  • The journey to getting the platinum trophy for Borderlands was very fun. Had to ask for some help with level up trophies, but it was easy since some of my friends were already lv.69 and already beat the game. lol

  • Jeff I got almost all of the cod games platinum 2 away for call of duty classic and 1 away for MW3. I got black ops platinum I just need 2 more trophies get it to 100% again because the add on, MW2 I got platinum, World at war 100% platinum. I got madden 11 and 12 platinum don’t have madden 10 platinum mostly because they took the online off and I didn’t start doing those trophies until this year :( and I know MW is old and almost dead but can you guys add trophies to that game so I can platinum that 1 two lol :) my other platinums is avatar, rogue warrior, smackdown vs raw 2011.

  • What I would like to see is, the level associated with trophies actually doing something besides counting trophies in an odd way. I mean seriously, why let us ‘level up’ if there is no purpose in doing it. Give players who spend that much time/money on the ps3 a bonus for doing it. It’ll never happen, sure, but hey a guy can hope right?

On topic, interestingly I tend to stay away from collecting a platinum on games where I have to collect large amounts of ridiculously tedious to find items. My AC2 has been sitting at 95% for who knows how long because I really don’t want to go into platinum drone mode and stare at the screen for hours doing nothing but looking for feathers and finding the subject 16 stuff. While the ones I do have were more difficult by far. Go ahead, platinum dead nation solo. I shall laugh while you die repeatedly on morbid. (Yes some would argue that that game has collectibles, but I did all of those in 2 playthroughs without even looking for them so I don’t really count that as tedious.)

  • I’ve got 8/10 platinums from this list. Only ones I don’t have are RE5 and MW2. Not a fan of either franchise, hehe.
And the only GoW plat I’m missing is #2, but I’ve had that collection loaned out for a long time. If I had it back, I’d have finished it up when I did GoW3 last year… oh well.

I think the plats I’m proudest of are the ones I speedrun. Dragon Age 2, inFAMOUS 2 and Uncharted 3 are ones I’m happy with. But then I also like to take my time on some games. Skyrim took me 193 hours to plat, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning took me 118 hours. But the trophy site I’m a member of shows me as being the 3rd to plat KoA:R, so I’m super happy with that.

Currently working on Dynasty Warriors NEXT (Vita), Trine, Jak and Daxter Collection and Sengoku Basara.

  • Nothing wrong with multiplayer trophies at all. Trophies are not necessary to begin with, therefore you are not forced to get any of them. The point of a platinum should be working for it to complete all aspects that the game offers. It doesn’t make sense when games like Uncharted and Resistance ignore multiplayer trophies completely. Even Killzone 3 completely dumbed down the multiplayer trophies, among other things, for whatever reason that may be. Of course there are some ridiculous trophies out there, but that is a case to case basis. Multiplayer trophies can be reasonable to acquire while requiring some work at the same time. What is a trophy if nothing was put into unlocking it? Take note developers.

  • My Platinums:
    Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
    Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
    Transformers: War for Cybertron

  • I have all those plats. Pretty easy to. So far im have 50 plats with it turning 51 soon cause of captain america

  • I thought Uncharted 2 hit the nail on the head. Single player trophies for the platinum and then DLC trophies for those who want to play multi-player. I was hugely disappointed that all the UC3 DLCs to date haven’t had any trophies attached to them what-so-ever. I was actually looking forward to going back and working on some of the multi-player trophies like I did with Uncharted 2. However, even though UC3 multi-player is amazing, I’ve got other games of similar AAA caliber that are crying for my attention. Especially those on the Vita. Sorry HD Drake, you lose to touchable Drake … for now.

  • @Jadehope:
I totally agree with you. Games with a focus on single player should have single player trophies only. Of course, additional trophies for multiplayer and DLC don’t hurt anyone.

I think I suck at games, especially shooters. Therefore, despite having 1200+ trophies and being LVL 13, I only have two platinums:
    1) Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
    2) Skyrim

both Games were quite easy. I never got through the Uncharted games on highest difficulty.

I would be interested which games have the lowest platinum percentage.
I think it might be Far Cry II, because it would demand some impossible online grinding.
Whar really impresses me are people who managed to get platinum in Wipeout HD or Mirror’s Edge. Kudos to there Guys and Girls ^_^

  • Awesome. I’m glad that some of my favorite games(Resident Evil 5, The Sly Collection and Uncharted Drake’s Fortune) are on this list. Hopefully it’ll be the same for Sly 4 Thieves in Time coming up. ^^

  • Interesting information that;) I got a few of them to. The 1st 2 SLY HD games were easy Platinum’s i thought(i couldn’t be assed getting the SLY 3 one tho) :D

  • Out of the 10 games listed there, I platinum 5 of them. The other 5, they’re about to get ripped apart.

  • Im quite supprised that Assasins creed II is top platinum, as I was robbed of mine when I relised the game had glitched and stopped awarding them. I didnt think this was a rare occurance either and no patch was released to address it. I finished the game, but it put me off from trying again (all those feathers) in case it happened again.

I dislike multiplayer trophies as they tend to have insin requirments that the devs intended to use just to keep peaople playing even if the modes you have to play are horrible. I think it was deadspace 2 that got it right by having the multiplayer trophies as dlc, and nt having to get them to platinum.

GT5, getting gold on all licences and the X2010 car challenges has put an end to me platinuming that game. insain requirement ;). Mortal Kombat 2009, Play each character for 24 hours as just one of the requirments for a particular trophy, no chance. I think devs need to put more thaught into their trophies instead of hardcore bronse! level trophies for ony the trully dedicated.

I cant imagin its good for sony, for there players to have to play one game for 6 months in order to plat instead of buying more games and plating more games to feed the trophy hunter beasts ;)

  • there should be no more online trophies cause in red dead redemption in a trophy u need 10 gang hideout but its i cant get it cause i need some to help wich sucks cause then i cant get my 8th Platinum i wish game makers could get that cause once the game is old u cant get Platinum could u tell game makers that plz or they should make online trophies optional

  • I’m a little surprised that Terminator Salvation isn’t on the list. Sure, it’s a terrible game, but it only has 12 trophies (counting the platinum) and they can all be collected by beating the game on hard. No collecting or tricks. Beat a short game on hard is all you have to do.

  • @AntiLeaf33: It’s a matter of trophy hunter versus trophy *hore. Most hunters avoid games like Terminator: Salvation and Hannah Montana, cause they feel it ruins their plat list. *hores just want as many trophies+plats as possible, and are usually the ones you see with the above two, as well as every disney/pixar/dreamworks game, and various other 3-5 hour plats. T:S is not as widely platted as one would think. It would have had to actually sell well to come close to touching anything on this list.

Another statistic I’d be interested in seeing, though I imagine it would be a bit harder to suss out…
Number of PSN accounts having X tier of platinums, i.e. 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, etc. Just to see how many of those “top-tier” plat hunters are out there (solo or groups).

  • Needs more Portal 2. Then again, that has the dreaded Professor Portal…

That’s what I thought cross platform playing was.36+ R0BIN_LEECH on March 2nd, 2012 at 9:22 am said:If i’m wrong and you can do that please tell me. because I feel like you should be able too.

  • I don’t have any of those. I work on them, but don’t get them. This list is inspiring.

  • that’s awesome for those who really earn them.
cuz there’s people who jailbreak there ps3’s to hack
    there trophy’s lol silly noob.

  • I feel like such a noob. I don’t have on platinum yet, but I’m so close to getting 3. I’m making it a GOAL to get the ME2 platinum before ME3 comes out. 4 DAYS LEFT!

  • my plattys are battlefield3 killzone 3 bulletstorm god of war 3 batman arkham aslyum and city modern warfare 3

  • I’m having problems seeing my trophies. Whenever I try to see them it says sinking to server then stops at 10%. Please help!

  • Very good points, Jeff. Assassin’s Creed 2 was my first plat, and it was because there are no multiplayer trophies. I was very disappointed when Brotherhood had so many difficult ones, and never got the plat for that. Infamous I would have a plat for if it wasn’t for one stupid missing shard! I got one for Infamous 2 because of the improved shard detection. Wish they could patch Infamous 1 with that! I hope developers do listen to you, and either make less multiplayer “level 50” sort of trophies or make them optional trophies. I love the way Uncharted handles multiplayer trophies. All games should follow that pattern.

  • I have 3 of those. Assassin’s Creed 2 might join the list down the line when I’m less busy.

  • @lPHOENIXZEROl
I think its the covered one..

    @Jeff (inFamous)
At 1st island there was a shard that was covered from a lightning sign on your radar, while scanning the area. You can find it at one of those water tanks on the roofs. Maybe ^^

Would be interesting to see the rarest ones, in percentage ;)
