As you may recall, we had postponed our scheduled PlayStation Network maintenance session from last Thursday to a time to be announced. It is now determined that maintenance will take place tomorrow (Sunday, March 4).
This significant PSN maintenance period is expected to start at just after noon Pacific and will last for several hours, until approximately 2am Pacific on Monday, March 5. Unlike typical maintenance events, consumers who are already signed-in to PSN will be signed-out, and consumers will be unable to sign in for the duration of the maintenance window. During this time, users won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, Account Management or play online. PSN enabled websites will not be able to service users, including this one.
Please stay tuned to the PlayStation Twitter feed for a notice when PSN is fully back online. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Everyone should Grow up. i mean when Americans make maintenance for 360 at midnight for them which leaves other country not able to play when they’re awake but you wouldn’t complain or care yet when play station company does it Americans and allot of people complain how ironic.

It’s not that bad. Sony is trying their best. Anyways we really could use a good update and i think the 14+ hours isn’t that bad after all. This will give Sony enough time to Test and make sure everything works on their update. Be mindful Sony lets PlayStation users enjoy free PlayStation Network. I do agree Sunday wasn’t the best picked time–but this update was infact moved from another time planned. Sony, Just keep doing what your doing and make your company’s name out even more.

-I want an update on Remote play;; I want to play my PS3 via my Vita and play PS3 Games. {Just like shown in E3]
-I want some more App’s for both the PS3/Vita
-Games like Uncharted 3 said they would work with you on prices, Um As i remember Uncharted 2 DLC’s were 4.99 and Now in Uncharted 3 they’re 9.99? Sony..Really? (Some changes in the store would be nice)

People don’t get it. The maintenance never fixes anything. Think of it as a defrag on a PC. Come Monday it will run the same as it did two days ago!
Wow I see a lot of complaints. To me I see it as time for Sony to get their systems ready for the upcoming Mass Effect 3 and Street Fighter x Tekken launch. They probably will be also fixing what they can with the PS Vita. I’m going to just either play on my other systems I have or play offline games on my ps3. Doesn’t matter to me even if I do have the Playstation Plus. I see it as a necessary evil for now. I just hope they don’t underestimate the impact of having countless people playing Mass Effect 3 multiplayer and SF x Tekken online. Good Luck Sony, your going to need it.
Sony this is a much better day, shoulda waited till midnight to start as whomever came in to work on this is getting overtime as it is. Either way, just hope you are doing something about idiots who still manage to use lag switches in games like bf3. A bit of info as to whats being done isn’t that much to ask. i know core elements cant and wont be discussed but rather than a memo you could actually post something relevant and satisfying to your customers. The ones crying are indeed children. I’ll just play one of the other many many many many games i have….maybe finally totally finish gta4

Yeah I hope they fix some of the stuff on Vita, like how it always signs off PSN when in sleep mode, and the fact that I don’t even think 3G is working. Haven’t really taken the time to actually confirm it, but it might be more of an ATT thing though.

Anyone who says its only the yanks who suffer, need to go back through the history of maintenance times and check to see how often its during North American days…I don’t remember a single maintenance over night for me. And I’ve owned a PS3 for several years.The last 6 maintenance that were for everyone always affect North Americans. Always around 7am PST – 9pm PST on average, there was one short one.

I unfortunatelly bought a VIP PASS to F1 2011 today…bad luck …. the donwload was done… but the game not working to on line games yet … When i did it the system was OK… but i can understand now that the file not download correctly… Can it be possible or not? I pay received the VIP PASS file but not work… Someone can help me? Thanks a lot
it’s interesting that right now it’s 4 minutes to 7:00 pm eastern time and no maintenance has occurred where I was forced offline. I’ve been online for close to 4 hours and still kicking. Maybe it’s only regional on certain hours?
LOL at everyone expecting PSN to have a complete cosmetic overhaul when it returns.
I doubt we, the users, will see any differences after this maintenance. If there were to be noticeable improvements, don’t you think Sony would have been trumpeting them for at least the past fortnight?

Routine server maintenance != any kind of visual/feature update.
Updates come as firmware, not “server maintenance”. Anyone who was expecting anything, and is now mad that they got nothing, has only themselves to blame for being ignorant.

i was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this, i am fairly new to playstation ……
i have enjoyed playing MW3 online with friends but ever since i downloaded the latest update and the new maps, i cannot hear anythng from my headset (official sony) or the via the t.v. i have tried re pairing them several times but i still get nothing. could this be associated with the problems others have posted in relation to the latest update?
please help!
You know I hate to complain, but taking down the network on one of the biggest game nights of the week is just PURE STUPIDITY. Not to mention, I wake up this AM and turn it on and there is no difference in the way it looks, feels, smells, acts, or tastes. WHY SONY? too many subscribers and your trying to get rid of some?
Anyways, I cant find any posting of what they actually did other than “maintenance” or even any kind of fixes list. I did get an update though (maybe previous to the outage?) I am now at v4.11 and dont see any obvious changes.

“Server Maintenance” as was stated quite a few times previously in this “thread” (Comments section) has pretty much nothing to do with aesthetics. If you recall Sony got infiltrated pretty badly (and easily.. outdated SSH with known exploits?) for their lack of security and “maintenance”.
If you’re expecting an aesthetic change i.e. new XMB or something you’re better off switching to M$. $ony seems to have taken the “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it!” approach to the XMB.
Again, maintenance means updating software, maintaining a decent balance load, hardware checks/replacements for failed components (yes it does happen with virtually EVERY server.)
Sorry if I come off as caustic but people really should research and educate themselves before looking like “nubs”.
Why do psn need to go offline for service, i never see xbox do this. You can never plan when to play at psn you never know when its possible to be online, What kind of server is psn using, has to be some old system. Today it should not be necessary. Sorry but im mad have so many problem at psn. If there is no problem here its not normal. :)
You should go buy an Xbox if you’re so impressed with their service Jenna. The money you don’t pay for the PSN won’t be missed.

@177 it was rescheduled from thursday and they chose sunday. it was necessary they do this asap and unless you guys want to not play on monday or monday night when mass effect 3 launches and piss alot more people off, sony did the right thing. It was only a few hours ffs why are you moaning like it was taken down for 3 days or something. Whether or not they’ll actually tell us specifics is up to them but it was necessary maintenance psn needed and only sony knew if he was needed. Sony don’t purposely try to piss off everything, it’s just factors come into play that ends up doing it unintentionally and you guys just end up looking like tools.
@172 you sound like a 12 year old tbh. go ahead and play xbox over PS3 i’m sure paying 50 dollars a year for an online service which should be free will make things a whole lot better.
That’s the thing most people are forgetting: PSN is free so be glad it is and be glad they’re serious on trying to prevent hacks and intrusions into the network even if we have to lose a few hours of online connectivity.
Fine, this stuff needs doing. But how difficult can it be to either implement a user-friendly message that isn’t just a cryptic number in the system software, or send an email alert to all users a few days before? The PS3 homepage should feature a PSN status, for all markets (please don’t forget Europe, as you seem to have on this occasion – I saw no mention of the downtime on the European pages)
I would never have scheduled a MW3 multiplayer session with my time-poor mates yesterday evening, nor would we all have spent another half hour trying to login again, turning our Playstations on and off, doing the same with our routers etc. etc. in the vague hope that we could get things back up and running.
I only stumbled upon this blog entry by chance on Google, which (pretty much any way you search it) is mostly taken up with entries about the last time the PSN went down unexpectedly…
I’m sure there are some simple things that Sony can do to improve communication in this kind of event.
For anyone that was annoyed that this maintenance was scheduled during the Double XP weekend for Killzone 3 (like myself), just a heads up: Guerrilla Games announced on the killzone.com twitter feed that they will be holding another Double XP weekend on March 17-18 because of the inconvenience. Thanks to GG for hearing us.
you know no offence to psn players but how come that i never had this issue with the x360, i mean i been with them for years and even when they do maintenance its usually in form of an update. it be nice to know what is being doing, like release notes the same way you do release notes for new psn software update. and the timing could not be any worst, i did no even know there was going to be down. i suggest next time push a message to the ps3 consoles to let us know that there will be something going on… that’s just what i think…
Hopefully is it’s all fixed by this later on man. Tryna play Madden 12, Nba 2k12 and MW3. please be fixed.

ITS 7:00 am and im angryyyy i got my ps3 yesterday brand new with a copy of MW3 just bursting with joy untill this matinence thing kept coming up now i have to wait!!!!

I didn’t whine when they took the network down on a Sunday afternoon for 14 hours, but it was supposed to be back up over 5 hours ago. I know that Sony is under pressure to make these updates successfully, quickly, and meet the expectations that they set. It just feels like over the last few months that the PSN team has not communicated well, or met even their own conservative expectations.
I want Sony to succeed as I really like the bones of the product, and I’m invested in the software. I like the fact that it is free, but I wish some of the more sought after changes such as a decent browser and the ability to have more control over messages when viewing video content could be added. I know Sony needs to focus on driving new revenue with their handheld and the PS3 is mature. I think Sony would want to shore up the base for when the PS4 premiers and they have to deal with the feedback of customers who no longer have the option to buy used games, have to pay for network access, and other changes that will surely be controversial.
Do any of you understand what the word “Maintenance” means?
It doesn’t mean to upgrade. Or to improve. Or to add new features.
It means to maintain. To keep running. To ensure that what you have today is still working in a month or a year.
