The Drop: Week of March 19th 2012 New Releases

For gamers of my generation, Silent Hill 2 for PS2 stands as a giant in the survival-horror genre. Sadly, I completely missed out on the Silent Hill phenomenon. But thanks to the advancements of modern PS3 technology, I can now experience both Silent Hill 2 and 3 in glorious HD this week with the release of the Silent Hill HD Collection.

And speaking of classics, Ninja Gaiden 3 joins the fray this week with a new story, PlayStation Move-enhanced gameplay and new multiplayer modes. Shooter fans should take note of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, which delivers a third-person team-based action set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Ninja Gaiden III (PS Move Compatible) — Team Ninja aims to change the way fans think about ninja and Hayabusa in this game, and promise that they’ll know what it feels like to “cut someone down” through their experiences in the game. The game will also feature online multiplayer, both co-op and competitive, that will add a completely new experience to Ninja Gaiden. A new Play Style system allows casual players to choose automatic guarding and evasion assists (HERO mode) while giving core players the freedom to play with no assists (NINJA mode). Pick up the Dragon Sword once more, sharpen its blade and hone your skills. An adventure unlike any other awaits you…

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City —  Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W’s) add to the mix as players not only compete against an opposing squad but also tackle this third unpredictable element, creating a brand new style of gameplay and breaking the conventions of traditional team based shooters.

Silent Hill HD Collection — Experience the horrors of Silent Hill all over again with this collection of Silent Hill 2 and 3, rendered in high-definition for the first time ever.

  • SILENT HILL 2 — You are back to the town of Silent Hill as James, a man who lost his wife several years earlier. One day, he receives a letter from his dead wife telling him to come back to Silent Hill, but what he finds there when he returns is nothing short of horrifying.
  • SILENT HILL 3 — The series’ trademark brand of psychological horror and terrifying gameplay continues. As a teenage girl named Heather, players must explore and unravel the mysterious connection between the god-forsaken town and her inner fears.

Armored Core V — Armored Core V revolutionizes the series with a completely new atmosphere and a strong multiplayer component to compliment its single player mode. In addition, the online mode has been completely redesigned to focus on battles on a global scale, based on team play, absolutely immense. With mechs that are smaller than the previous chapters, Armored Core V is more focused on tactics used effectively geography level rather than relying only on the attacks.

PlayStation Network

Warriors Orochi 3 (PS3) — Warriors Orochi 3 combines the much loved heroes of the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series in an all new story that for the first time also features characters from Ninja Gaiden, Warriors: Legends of Troy, Bladestorm, Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll and Dead or Alive! The game also introduces the bond system, where the bonds between characters can be increased by interaction in banquets, fighting together as allies, rescuing struggling allies, and accepting then clearing missions in battles. Players can also customize existing scenarios and then share them online for all to enjoy, as well as rate those created by others.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (Full PS3 Game) — Space Marine is a fast-paced third person action-shooter from Relic Games allowing players to don the armor of one of the emperor’s chosen in this battle for the very survival of humanity. Players are dropped right into the action as they battle to defend an Imperial Forge World from an invasion by the savage and brutal Orks, using the most devastating weaponry mankind has at its disposal.

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc HD — In celebration of the return of Rayman in Rayman Origins, the fan favorite Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc gets an all-new high-definition makeover (with 60-frames-per-second gameplay and worldwide online leaderboards) with this downloadable version of the adventure hit!

Sumioni: Demon Arts (PS Vita) — Set in ancient Japan and presented in a classical Japanese “sumi-e” ink art style, Sumioni is literally translated from Japanese as “ink demon,” and puts players in control of Agura, a single Inkdemon who has been summoned from a long slumber to help rid the land of a sinister evil. During their adventure, players will experience epic boss battles and a branching story with diverging arcs and multiple endings.

  • Too bad the Silent Hill “collection” doesn’t include The Room — was one of my fav titles on Xbox1. I’ll probably get Rayman 3 HD if it’s a better remaster than Ubisoft did on the Prince of Persia series.

  • Speaking of Ubisoft-published remasters, someone needs to get them on releasing RealMYST and/or Broken Sword HD Collection.

  • xD ill be getting Rayman 3=) also Ninja gaiden 3 collectors edition and Operation Raccoon city special edition and Silent hill

  • No vita games??

  • I usually just keep my mouth shut about this in hope that things will get back on track, but this drought of ps1 and ps2 classics is ridiculous. Both Japan and Europe have been flooded with classics and we haven’t gotten jack squat in months. Enough is enough already.

  • I can’t really support the Silent Hill HD. Even as a non SH fan, my mom follows the series and has her original PS3 copies. They redubbed both games due to some issues of them owing money to one of the SH2 VAs. If they can’t work out a deal with him I just can’t say it’s a good collection. People go crazy when money is involved.

  • Funny how my lasy comment is awaiting moderation when nothing was said out of line. Weird.

  • @poisonedsodapop Actually if I’m not mistaken they reversed that after a massive uproar and put most of the old voices back in. I think SH 3 had all of them returned to normal, but SH 2 they had to keep a few of the changes. I’d double check on that though in case I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure I read that at some point a few months back.

  • Hate to go post crazy but I just checked again and it’s SH2 that you can choose between new and old VAs. Sadly SH3 you are stuck with the new ones, but I think everyone knows SH2 was the one that really mattered most.

  • BAM!!

Ninja Gaiden 3, Armored Core 5, RE: Operation Raccoon City preordered!!!

    It’s gonna be a fun week(s).

  • The only money spending I’ll be doing on games until ACIII will probably be towards this sale, maybe motorstorm, maybe skullgirls, and maybe the next BF3 expansion. Unless the PS store can convince me otherwise. Can’t wait until you spill the beans on the Final Fantasy sale. My Motorstorm RC purchase is pending unless I see something I want from the sale. (Is it going to be PS1 games?! those never go on sale! I would gladly hand over my money for a discounted FFVII) If it’s just PSP games then I don’t know. Might get one since I’ll get a Vita at some point (When they’ll have the ability to play Minis, PS1 games and PSP games of course – can they play PSP games? I know they were supposed to).

    .

  • Also I made a typo, meant PS2 copies. Sevyne that’d be good if they kept all the music and voices. I might pick it up for my mom for Mother’s Day but I doubt she’d play them really. She’s still all about her PS2. Her favorite game has to be GTA:SA lol. Anyways, I would be sad if they changed the voice in SH3. I actually played that one and enjoyed the voice work in it.

  • WOW! All Japanese games on the PS3 front this week. Impressive.

  • @10 Vita can play some PSP games and some minis right now. They seemed to have dropped the ball on the “soon” after launch PS1 and all PSP/mini titles. But there’s a firmware coming up in April. Fingers crossed. I want to put all my content on my Vita!

  • Still waiting for full PSP/PS1 compatibility for my Vita. Pretty sure I was told “soon” after launch, even though it’s been about 4 weeks now.

  • @Alprandom There’s SumiOni that’s coming out on the Playstation Store for the Vita. It should be sitting at $14.99. Digital Only game btw.

  • Really excited for Ninja Gaiden 3!

  • Is Canabalt not coming this week as a Minis title like Adam Atomic stated on his Twitter account?

  • Please tell me Skype is Finally coming to Vita this week? I’ve been waiting since launch and it was said to be launch and no one said anything about it so far. Can we please just get the App now.. especially since, from what this shows, this is basically just a PS3 PS Store Update, because the Vita is dead this week

  • Where are the new PS1 classics? I want both fear effect!

  • Rey,

Will the Silent Hill Collection be also available digitally? It’s not mentioned in the Playstation Network section, but in your post you said “(…) thanks to the advancements of modern PS3 and **PSN** technology, I can now experience both Silent Hill 2 and 3 in glorious HD (…)”.

  • Got Armored Core 5 on pre-order (YAY From Software!!) and I’m def picking up Warriors Orochi 3. Also I’m def looking forward to the fallout of RE: Operation Raccoon City. The hate that game is getting is hilarious, interested to watch how that pans out.

  • WARRIORS OROCHI 3 price point? I played the $#!% out of the first 2 along with all DYNASTY WARRIORS/SAMURAI WARRIORS games. Im gonna get that for SURE. Just hope its not like $30 or something.

***PROUD PS+ MEMBER SINCE DAY 1***

  • Armored Core V is the best game out this week.

  • I’m really excited for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City brand new RE game in a classic setting with new controls like moving & shooting at the same time plus 4 player Co-op doesn’t get better until Resident Evil 6.

  • Sumioni Demon Arts better be under 20 bucks! :) under 10 would be even better! 7.99 like mutant blobs please!!

  • OMG! Warrior Orochi 3

Finally! a Japanese game on PSN

    I can’t stop my tears.

  • Silent Hill collection is a must own but not a day one purchase for me. I’m still making my throug Downpour which is not as bad as the reviewers say.. pleasantly surprised

  • when are more psp games coming to vita and more minis and transfer of minis from ps3 to vita …. we needs this guys come on :) oh and remote play …. still waiting for an update lol dont wait till the wii u is out to copy the code please come on guys

  • WHEN WILL MW3 BE AVAILABLE IN THE PSN STORE ????????????????

  • Is I am Alive coming on PSN soon?

  • You sure WO3 is set to come out this week? The official website says 27th

  • Does this mean no PS1, PS2, Neo Geo, or TG16 games?

  • I’m a little disappointed at the lack of any PS Vita Demos or games(SumiOni notwithstanding), but I guess I can wait. We’ve had quite a flurry of releases recently, I suppose.

Also, for everyone asking about Vita and PSP compatibility, almost every game will work if copied from the PS3. Just because it’s not officially supported yet doesn’t mean it won’t work! Same goes for Minis.

  • Definitely going to try the “Under Siege” demo. I remember when the game launched and everyone was clamoring for a demo. Ninja Gaiden 3 is the only ‘must buy’ for me. Resident Evil:ORC and AC:V are both ‘wait for reviews’ status.

  • @2 *gasp* realMYST! i would LOVE a myst collection in HD for ps3. all of them. i have all on pc but they dont run as well anymore. and myst 3 on ps2.

  • Any chance of us getting any of the PS2 classics Europe has gotten?

  • WHAT?!! : )
how come silent hill 4 isn’t included in the collection hmm?

  • I’ve had Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City since Friday. Capcom sent the game out early for some reason. I really like it. Ah! Silent Hill 3 finally we meet again this Tuesday. Bring back Shinobi.

  • When is Skullgirls coming to the PlayStation Network? One of the next couple of updates hopefully.

  • Hey guys! Great news!

My Vita is dead. Won’t turn on or hold a charge. Didn’t even make it to 24 days in… Now THAT is what you call solid craftsmanship.

    Thanks Sony!

  • Wow nothing for Vita or PSP? i really hope this isnt a trend like for the psp. Granted i probably couldnt get any games if they came out on Tuesday since im already getting AC5, and Resident Evil ORC, sadly for xbox since my friends are fan of those series, and none of them own a ps3. still would have been nice to get something for Vita, or Psp.

  • It’s sad that yet another handheld is going to fail because Sony can’t stand behind their new products. I should of know better than to jump the gun on buying it. Maybe it’s not too late to unload it before it bottoms out…!!!

  • WHAT THE…!!!! Is going on with the PSVita?? So many Youtube videos showing its awful errors!!! My PSVita has been giving me a few problems but now it’s not responding. I’m freaking out!!! What can I do SONY??? Please PlayStation Blog, PLEASE, HELP US!!!! :'(

  • Having missed the entire PS2 experience, it seems like a *gift* that these ‘Silent Hill’ games are being released in HD. I can hear the passionate cries of those who must have courted the woman back in those days, however, and I can empathize with what must seem like Sony is just saying to you: “The past has been rewound”.

I can’t imagine that anybody saying something like that would sit well with anyone, especially not with people who care very passionately about such things. All I can say is: “Relax a little. Turn on the throttle to WEP. Watch carefully as your plane gathers velocity.

Now pull back *slowly*. *Slowly*, ever so slowly. Okay, now retract the landing gear.

  • Warriors Orochi 3 is releasing a week earlier than expected, drop the price really is 30 but i doubt it. there is gonna be many dlc that will cause me to spend over 30 on, combining the cost to be same or more than those of retail games.

  • Warriors Orochi 3 is going to be like $49.99-$59.99. It’s a full retail game on X360. I don’t see why they would cut the price by 50% or more just because it’s digital here, especially when the PS Store prices already don’t match existing retail PS3 game prices.

I would have spent $60 in the store for it, though, so I’ll be happily buying it anyway.

  • All the people above complaining their Vita isn’t working or about error message.

Did you check the Knowledge center online at Sony for the Vita error messages or what you can do if the Vita freezes on you.

Most of your problems are well documented there.

Take some time to look and read the solutions and if they arent’t there, then complain.

Just wondering how many of you have actually looked at the Knowledge center yet.

  • This may take a bit to post, but here’s the website for those people complaining their Vita’s aren’t working.

    Sony’s Knowledge center:

  • Really looking forward to Raccoon City….hopefully this holds me over until RE6.
