PS Vita System Software Update (v1.65)

Update 4/3/2012: We identified a symptom that users can not play adhoc play in PSP titles if they download the system software, so we have taken down the system software temporarily. The system software will be available to download again soon.

Hi, everyone. The next PS Vita System Software Update (v1.65) will be released soon and will include the following minor enhancements:

  • A “Notification Alert” option will be added to Settings, so you can toggle alerts on or off
  • “After 10 minutes” will be added to the time options under Power Save Settings
  • An Arrow icon will now appear when PS Vita finds new activities in the LiveArea
  • Caps Lock will be supported in the On Screen Keyboard

Don’t forget: there are several ways to update the firmware on your PS Vita:

  • Select “System Update” under the “Settings” menu and download the firmware directly to your PS Vita over Wi-Fi.
  • Connect your PS Vita to a PS3 or a PC/Mac and update via Content Manager.

  • Well near is broke for me now. It was working fine before the update but now it says I’m not sharing my ID even though I am. I tried turning the share ID option on and off and I turned the Vita off and back on and it still won’t work. Near finds my location quicker and loads the out and about quicker but I get no use out of Near now because no matter what it thinks I’m not sharing my ID.

  • firmware 1.65 just got released

  • SPOKE TOO SOON!

    MINIS WORKING!!!!!!!!!

  • this update was kinda a letdown, i was expecting something bigger and beter and a cooler features like skype or avi or mkv support and a faster content manager, an eboor reader, ps1 support, option to use directional button in live area, an option to make download complete even if u press sleep manually, but thats too much to ask

  • I useto expect impressive updates from Playstation but i gave up after all the updates made on the ps3..i just dont get any high hopes for them. The PS Vita shouldve already had the functions that many people posted on this blog …a great browser , folders, more apps like youtube and playstation suite.Im just going to enjoy what i can from the PS Vita..and whatever silly update they can come up with =/

  • What really annoys me is When you delete messages on your PS3 the messages still show up on the Vita. You know how hard it is to delete over 20 messages. There needs to be a DELETE ALL messages icon, also you need to have it where people on the PS3 can see you online while on the Vita is it that hard to do? sheesh

  • and yeaaah add a battery level indicator on the device settings for christ sake as the PSP!!!! and enough of these vita freezes!!

  • vita trophies viewable via ps3 pleeaassee

  • Well this was a let down :(

Im enjoying my vita but I want the features and the games that were showcased for the vita! Where’s Warriors Lair… wheres Little Big Planet… remote play… ps1 classics… any information would be nice.

Going back to my corner with the rest of the vita owners where we will be ignored.

  • anyone able to test if there has been anything fixed with remote play?

  • I think a lot of people are justifiably annoyed by this.

Ps+ Minis issue still not fixed.
    PSOne games still not compatible.
The promised weekly update of PSP games that will work on the system still hasn’t happened (why they weren’t all compatible day one is a mystery in itself of course.)
Vita trophies still stubbornly refuse to appear on PS3, as does notification that you’re online on the handheld.

Releasing a firmware update with incremental changes that nobody cares about is just rubbing salt in the wounds. If there’s a legal issue why we cannot play PSOne, Minis and most PSP games on Vita (publishers insisting that they receive extra revenue for the new hardware or whatnot) then why not just come clean, because it surely isn’t a technical issue.

    Son(y), I am dissapoint.

  • APPS APPS APPS!!!! More APPS!!! also skype, playstation home, more psp game support, more minis support, do something with the port on the top. there is so much you can do sony!!!! JUST DO IT!!!!

  • Ok never mind. Near is working now. The problem was I hadn’t played a game since I updated. It wiped my play history clean and Near treats you as anonymous until you have play activity. It’s sharing my ID now. lol

  • get ps3 games to play thru remote play, vita trophies on ps3, netflix and music unlimited on 3g. DO MORE SONY!!! PLEASE!!!! If we normal people can think of all these things to do to the vita, why havent you!?

  • The ps vita needs a better web browser with flash support and html5 to view videos a youtube app, hulu plus app, fix the facebook app, ps plus integration, more psn games compatible with the vita like journey, crisys, nba jam, angry birds, flower, modern combat, limbo, tetris, ect with cross platform, fix the near app please do a better update this update its not making sense

  • BTW I just noticed that you can update Near as often as you want in the same location now. No more once an hour limit.

  • Might get a Vita if I have an option to change the interface to something more classic like the PS3’s XMB for use on the Vita.

  • “Web Browser

Browse the web with full HTML 5 support on the beautiful 5” OLED screen.”

This information is posted on the Playstation.ca website…THERE IS NO HTML5 SUPPORT AT ALL LIARS!!!!!

  • Dear Sony,

  • @104 hold the ps button

  • Sony, we are going to need a ton of new features next update. Please. Here are some great suggestions:
    HTML-5 Support,
    PS-One Classics Support,
    YouTube (PLEASE!),
    Faster Web Browser,
    Fix Vita crashes,
Allow all PSP games on the Vita store so we don’t have to use our PS3 to install PSP games,
and Remote Play allowing everything. It has been proven by hackers that this is possible.
    Thank you for reading.

  • OHHHH how you disappoint me Sony!

  • This seems to have stealthed fixed my NEAR issues. Time wil tell if the problem recurs, but for now, it works.

  • It’s good to hear about some updates, but I’m still waiting for the part at 35 seconds in on this official promotional video to be true:

    http://youtu.be/lwSJC2zgK-E

I saw this video at a retailer after looking into the vita and was instantly excited. Remote play is the #1 feature that made me a day one adopter and more than a month in I still feel a bit cheated.

  • I’m actually pleasantly surprised and happy with this update … of course we all want PS1 games and true Remote Play updates … along with FOLDERS for the interface … more PSP games compatible … and the list goes on …. but I am so happy about this update because I play Hustle Kings and when I create an online room and I am waiting for someone to find it and enter it …. and if no one entered the room and I did not push either the room button or menu button on the touch screen within 5 minutes …. wham… disconnected from the Internet and vita would go in pause mode and I would have to re-create the room all over again … so the 10 minutes until sleep time is a great for me and gives me that little extra legroom I need. Sadly enough, the Vita still sleeps even when it is charging in the dock / cradle …. there should be an option that it will not go to sleep if charging … I like the CAPS LOCK too, Not too excited about the other two items in the update … I have yet to see them in action …

  • Oh my god, are you freakin’ kidding me Sony? I pay almost 500 dollars for this system the first week it comes out, and wait almost 2 months for the remote play function, and this is the best update you can do? This is aggravating! I bought the thing specifically for remote play, and still nothing. What a freakin’ waste! You guys suck! Caps Lock? I mean really! I’m supposed to get excited about this crap? I think not! And none of my ps1 games or downloaded ps3 games like TMNT or Bionic Commando Rearmed work on the vita yet. The only one so far that I just bought is Adventure Island works on it. I guess I should be happy about this right? I don’t think so, get off your asses and get the good update out! Enough is enough!

  • What about “NEAR”, it keeps saying that the application cannot start.

  • ADD YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • music in near was removed :(

  • Please tell me this is an april fools joke you just left out the rest of the update……..right?

  • this update was a huuuuge letdown. of ALL the things the vita needs to get working ASAP non of these were asked! >__<
    6. Remote Play
7.PS1 classics ( I really dont know how this one was not an out of the box feature…)
    8. Folders
    9. More APPS (go to ppl who create apps for Ipods and start doing the same thing for the Vita)

I guess thats all. Im not saying to do all of this on a sole update, but for Christ Sake update the system with things we r asking for.

  • Really, “After 10 minutes” will be added to the time options under Power Save Settings, we need better stuff than that Sony

  • @124

Near now pays attention to the System Music setting as it should, so I’m pretty glad about that.

Overall a great update. Has fixed some issues I had, namely the caps-lock, PS Plus minis not working (I have tried Trailblazer and Age of Zombies and both now work) and the ability to update Near more than once in an hour.

Sony is going about the updates in the right way; fixing existing features before moving on to the new ones.

  • Hate to be the broken record but, PS One Classics? Hopefully real soon…

  • This is nice and it certainly addresses those problems.
But really Sony, what we want is updated firmware that lets us use the Remote Play feature we were promised as well as our PSP games (there are still several that won’t work and most are not in the store on Vita, the PS3 transfer option is good but only works for those of us with PS3 consoles!) We also want PSone classics, PS2 and any other PSN games you can make transferable.

The Vita is awesome but now that the newness is wearing off, give us a reason to get excited again!

  • I’d like to see a “How To” video page put up on this site. Things like, how to use the Black Market in Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Perhaps a demonstration of the social apps. Tips and tricks regarding them said social apps. Thanks.

  • I’m not expecting much right away. The Vita is not even 6 months old. But in the future I’d like a little more than barely half a PSN store.

  • *Checks to see if it says PSone classics now work on Vita*

I don’t see it… Oh well. Goes back to Kid Icarus Uprising… :D

  • Why are people requesting PS2 and PS1 compatibility?? you really care that much about your old games?Really?
Flash and HTML5 should come first. and a YouTube app. Skype app would also be nice.
    Caps Lock is good.
A little update to the twitter app like @[name] prediction would also be a great addition.

PS1 and PS2 games? REALLY? Sony isn’t big on backward compatibility, I’m not ether.

  • KRAZHNBURNLOK_LA

ive been playing all the gta side stories on my vita..BOMB

  • we NEED youtube SUPPORT please……….

  • Are you serious Sony? Minor updates? Ok, I have had this system since feb 15th, spent 400 on the damned thing. And this is what you are giving us? First, 10 minute power time is ok, but the option to allow us to keep it on as long as we wish would be nice, especially if it is connected to the power cable. Second, about apps, every time I change my memory card, it resets my customized app screen icons and their placement. WTF people, if I spent five minutes carefully deciding where to put them, they should stay there. Not reassign themselves. And yes, ps 1 classics, ps+ usage, and ahem *cough* skype *cough,* where is it? Ya all need to spend your labor more appropriately. I know patience, but really, every week, ps3 has something awesome, not us, and when you give us something, it sucks major arse. Get up at 4am, get in the office at 6am, and start spending our hard earned money right.

  • @128

minis from PS+ are working for me (AUS PSN Account).

I’ve tested only a few and all have worked perfectly fine.
    Tested and working:
    – Blast off
    – Age of Zombies
    – Dracula Undead
    – Scary Girl
    – Enigmo
    – Field runners

  • I understand when the vita was released we all had these amazingly high expectations that were just instantly dropped to far below what we expected. However the hardware is still availaible and the system is great. It just needs some tweaking, and that takes time. We all have a big list of things we want from this system from youtube, to multiplayer on uncharted to ps1 classics. Even tweaks in the interface. but these are things that take time, and consider how big that list alone is. Now consider the fact that Sony has the ps3, and I’m sure there’s a gigantic list of things ppl want there too. Then Sony is probably working on a newer gen console, I mean there’s a lot on the plate. I know it’s hard getting far less than we expected but we gotta give it time. I for one welcome the update as it’s a small step int he right direction at the very least. Someone even said mini’s are working properly after the update and many other little things work well. Who knows what else the update added. We’ll get more in the future, we just gotta give them time. What if they rushed and gave us everything we wanted, but then it was buggy and didn’t work right??? we’d be even more upset then. it’ll happen in time

  • please never add ps1 or ps2 games to the vita
    its a waste.
now add some more cross game ps3 games

  • @131 What they said. I think this is a really good idea. The Near functionality in games is pretty convoluted and the digital manuals aren’t much help.

  • I want some information on when I’ll be able to play Killzone 3 on my Vita via Remote Play.
I’ve now seen the commercial of the guy playing it on television approximately 12 times. I don’t mean to piss people off, but seriously, That’s false advertising. The remote play functionality is the reason I bought my Vita FEB; I want to be able to play my games while my girlfriend is watching tv. I’m not so much upset about it not being available as I am the fact that NO ONE is willing to provide answers as to when it’s coming; or IF it’s even still coming. For all I know Sony canned the Idea a month ago.

  • Really that’s it? After all the complaints and backwards compatibility issues your working on minor improvements on a brand spanking new system? Half the fun is watching the firmware evolve! You can do better than this.

  • Just skip Flash and provide full HTML5 support please. Flash has too many security problems. Most YouTube videos work fine with HTML5. Everyone should Google “youtube html5” and see the first result to enable it. As for other video sites, complain to the webmasters for not including HTML5 support for videos. There is no reason not to and they might as well do it soon because eventually the only sites that will still use Flash are crappy web pages made by grandmas who want to show off their button collections. LOL.

  • flash,java…skype…and ps 1/2 …more apps.. uh…like video player.txt PDF. reader.
..But,you know, game is just the soul of Vita..MH.GOD.COD.FFX.GTA.Miku, and so on…
    Please….Please…..Please…..Save our Vitas….
