Grace Chen's Avatar + Posted by Grace Chen on Apr 03, 2012 // Director, PlayStation Store

Hi Everyone -
PS Store

Spring Fever takes a surprise victory lap with the addition of Wheels of Destruction to the roster. This fast paced dose of manic car mayhem puts you in the driver’s seat as you take down your enemies using a slew of different weapons vehicles. Choose from multiple car classes like Assassin, Heavy, and Scout, and then put the pedal to the metal to try and be the last road warrior standing. PlayStation Plus subscribers can hop into this new release for 20% off on the day it debuts on PSN.

As if Wheels of Destruction wasn’t enough of an adrenaline rush, Spring Fever is keeping the meter in the red (blood red that is) with this week’s franchise sale of Mortal Kombat games and add-ons. The awesome Mortal Kombat DLC and classic MKs you know and love will be set on fire, covered in acid, and finally put on sale for 30% off.PlayStation Plus subscribers score a flawless victory with an over the top 50% discount.

PS Store

More games dropping this week on the PlayStation Store include the moody survival adventure I Am Alive. In this post-apocalyptic tale, there are no supernatural threats, just an everyman who faces a decaying and hazardous world and humanity’s darkest inclinations. Will you hang on to your humanity and help strangers or are you ready to sacrifice others in order to survive?

The all new Amazon Instant Video app launched today as well, giving you the chance to rent or buy more than 120,000 commercial-free movies and television shows–new release movies to classic favorites, major television shows and seasons, and day after air TV. They also offer thousands of titles at no additional cost to Amazon Prime members.

As mentioned last week in April’s PlayStation Plus preview, subscribers are getting a ton of new content today with Shank 2, Shift 2: Unleashed and PS one Classic Silent Hill; all free with Plus. You’ll also find free Escape Plan PSN Avatars and a great deal on a bundle of Devil May Cry PSN Avatars for 99 cents.

What games and content will you be picking up this week? Excited for the new Amazon Instant Video app? Make sure you check out all the details below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below and come back next week to see what’s new in the PlayStation Store, or join the discussion on the PlayStation Community forums in the Official PlayStation Store Update thread.

You say Devil May Cry avatars are available at no cost for PS+, but the list shows them as a bundle for 99 cents. So which is it?

Ahh that’s a typo. The DMC Avatar bundle is the special and they are in fact 99 cents. The post will be updated shortly with the correct info

Awesome update. Hope to see more new (if not fresh) updates this year. Also… I am quite disappointed that Amazon Video Service does not offer Subtitles or closed-caption support! :-(

Woah, early update! I just hopped on the blog. Will be picking up the PS+ freebies as well as the I am Alive demo.

I Am Alive and Motorstorm dlc for me.
For some reason, I expected I Am Alive to be $19.99 (it almost looks like a retail game after all), so that’s a nice surprise.

Still no Skype for Vita? Hmmm…. I hope Microsoft buying out Skype doesn’t mean we’ll never get the app now.

Nice to see an early update, but when will we get an update with added VITA compatibility (PSOne, PSP Legacy) or even just basic games for the VITA? As much fun as MLB 12 and BlazBlue are, a taste of something fresh would be nice.

Another great app. So how about adding Crackle now; i know it is on Home but that is to much of a hassle. Also IT would be nice to have a dedicated youtube app as well. AND IF THERE IS ONE THING I COULD ASK FOR HOW ABOUT BRING PLAY TV TO THE US. I FOR ONE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE IT. THE PS3 IS MY MEDIA HUB AND I WOULD REALLY LIKE FOR IT TO TRULY DO EVERYTHING. ALSO GIVE THE PS3 SOME MORE CODEC OPTIONS.

If more is better, then that makes this weeks update better than lasts. :D It’s weird to not see any new PS3 full games since there had been a constant flow of them for months. No PS1/PSP/PSV releases either but those are expected to be sparse by now.

I wish the “New Releases” section was used more efficiently. When all the demos/videos/etc were pushed into their own little boxes I was expecting to see more games listed under New Releases. Instead its just the current and previous weeks offerings. You guys should keep at least the past months worth of games on there just to give them some more face time. :)

Nice free stuff for SSX there. I’ll be taking that, thanks.

Motorstorm RC Carnival pack as well, but damn it, I just bought the rubber duckie yesterday! Oh well, it was only 49 cents… :)

Question for Morgan Haro: I didn’t hear from you last week (I know, you must have been busy because you didn’t post at all like you usually do) so I’ll try again: Do you have an official release date for The Pinball Arcade that was originally slated for release last Tuesday? I’m now hearing rumors of next week April 10, but are you able to confirm that? Thanks.

One more question (for everyone), I haven’t played MK Vs. DCU yet… Is it worth the purchase? It’s pretty tempting at that price…

Can anyone comment on why PSP games are being REMOVED instead of added to the store?

Example:

Resistance Retribution

They are gone! Whats the deal hear guys? These are first party titles and everything.

MotorStorm RC is an excellent game, I enjoy it both on the PS3 and the Vita. I’ll be getting both content packs soon, and hope Evolution Studios is working on even more content for this great addition to the MotorStorm series.

Wait a minute…where’s the Sony Reader e-book app and the Digital Comic Reader app for the Vita? Oh yeah, they haven’t been announced. Let’s make this happen! Also, think about how great it would be to search through the PlayStation Store and have games, movies, TV shows, e-books, and comics come up in the result.

Agreed. Motorstorm RC is a phenomenal game. It’s brilliant, actually. Very well designed, the difficulty is just right – it’s challenging but not impossible, easy to pick up and play, tight responsive control, sharp graphics, and best of all – it’s just plain fun. It’s like a modern version of the NES classic RC Pro-Am which I loved so much as a youngster. I spent about 4 hours on it last night unlocking all the gold trophies. Well almost all of them… still working on the main one… (All events done in 40:00 or less)

The security issues are well documented online for a range of specific titles. Dark Mirror and Logan’s Shadow are now only available in a bundle (note: still there) if you buy them in a 2 game set.
