The PlayStation Recap – Instant Gratification Edition

The announcement of the Amazon Instant Video app for PS3 handily dominated discussion this week, with Jeff and Rey’s video tour taking top honors. PS Vita was also a hot topic, with word of free DLC for Escape Plan, Carnival expansion for MotorStorm RC, and a fresh look at Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention from NIS America. Lightbox Interactive released a vehicle-centric trailer for Starhawk, Naughty Dog showed off their next multiplayer expansion for UNCHARTED 3, and Sony San Diego Studios celebrated first pitch with an Opening Day trailer for MLB 12 The Show. The Tester 3 also triumphantly revealed its season finale, and the hardware team acknowledged user feedback of the Wireless Stereo Headset.

    • Playing: A whole bunch of Move demos. I finally got the Move controller and PS Eye for cheap this week. :D

Watching: Whatever sports are on HD, even golf

      Reading: Nothing :/

      Listening: European soccer on radio

Sid, do you know what’s going on with the Playstation app on Facebook? I’m not talking about the downloadable Vita app. I mean the app on Facebook that had the small list of trophies I earned and the lists of top games from around the world. The app has been down for about a month now.

    • I’m hoping for a blog post about LBP for the vita, can’t wait to get that.
I’ll be playing Street Fighter X Tekken and l’ll be watching Justice League Unlimited season 2 and Full Metal
      Alchemist Brotherhood

    • Playing: Shining Force 2

Watching: The teaser for Cosmopolis (David Cronenberg is the man)

      Listening: Outkast

    • any news on Resistance Burning Skies multiplayer modes? little big planet vita? warrior’s lair? broken? sound shapes? smart as? i need new vita games lol

    • Playing: Skyrim, Trails in the Sky

Watching: Series 4 of Being Human – the British version is superior to the West’s in every way except for budget perhaps.

Reading: Nothing at the moment. Possibly something by Patrick Gale next.

Listening: Lord of the Rings soundtrack while editing. Sigur Ross. REMINDER, SID and PS team, we need custom sountracks in all games, mmkay thanks. Probably not till the PS4 sadly.

2nd reminder: That last Vita update was terrible, but certainly you guys already know that. A caps lock function and other superfluous tripe were not what supporters of the PS brand were expecting 4 months after launch (from the JPN date, as its still “launch”). PSP/ PSX compatibility, PROPER remote-play (and the back-pedalling on that issue has not been forgotten). You guys have a terrific product but you’re squandering consumer faith and goodwill. Don’t waste the Vita’s potential please. And get on those Eastern publishing houses, as they’re the only ones making games for the Vita at the moment and the lineup over here is looking really, really anaemic – like 1-2 games a month tops.

    • when will we get a revised PS Vita Q and A? a while back during the ultimate Vita Q and A you/someone asked what we would like to hear for the next Q and A? if it is still going to happen i have 2 questions.
      1. When will we be able to play PS3 games on are PS Vita via remote play?
      2. when is LBP for PS Vita supposed to be released?

    • if u can answer, i have a couple of questions about Mortal Kombat on the Vita:
-Will the PSN version be cheaper than the retail version or will it have the $39.99 price?
-How big is (or do u think) the memory size is of the PSN version?

Also, any updates on PSone Classics or more compatible PSP games for the Vita?

I think with that latest Vita update, I was able to re-download Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles.

    • Currently playing: Gotham City Imposters

Also watching/listening: Hockey – Phoenix vs. Minnisots 4-1

      Reading: Nothing

    • Playing: Borderlands

      Watching: Re-runs of LOST

Reading: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Listening to: Some of Austin Wintory’s amazing work on Journey. Everyone should listen to his work.

    • Playing: Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Escape Plan on Vita

Watching: The Wonder Years on Amazon Instant Video, haven’t seen it since it went off the air.

Reading: The Walking Dead. I’ve been loving the TV show the last two seasons, and I finally decided to pick up the books and start reading. I’m loving it even more than the show.

Listening to: Various things depending on what mood I am in.

This week, I’ve been spending more time watching than reading and playing because of the Amazon Instant Video App. This is a rare thing as I normally read more than anything else. Does anyone know how often Amazon adds new movies and TV shows to Prime?

    • Instant Gratification huh? How cute I just finished reading “Feed” a week ago and we had M.T. Anderson skype chat us at our school. Very interesting.

I’m playing Shift 2, I hate racing sims other than arcade style racing (need for speed/midnight club/burnout etc) but this game is really fun and satisfying!

      Reading: I am Legend.

      Watching? Oh Paranormal Activity 3.

I also had that moment where I said to myself, “Should I buy tickets for PAX?” Then I realized I couldn’t afford the hotel rates. Months later a friend of mine says she goes to anime boston and other cons every year and she just takes the train in for each day. Presently I am facepalming myself because I get to miss The Behemoth booth and the Assassin’s Creed III booth. Probably a lot of others as well. But next year I’m definitely going!

    • I can’t believe Sony is closing zipper interactive…
First, motorstorm studio and now zipper.
So, OK, I’ll understand that Sony has alot of Gaming studios, and maybe a little too much.
But it’s not really a reason to go off and kill your studios!

Now, Sony needs to create a whole new corporation under another name than Sony, have this corporation on the stock market with Sony has the major stock holder.
You keep your best studios exclusive to SCE and PS3. As for the other studios who ‘has a trouble selling their games you recruit them in this newly founded corporation that will publish on multiple platforms or exclusive to ps3 depending of the franchise.

Then thoses struggling studios would have the opportunity to sell much more games on other consoles. With this new corporation created by Sony, not directly owned by Sony beyond being a major stock holder…… Sony would make money off Nintendo and Xbox players, basically.

    • It’s a better move doing this than losing awesome franchises like MAG.
Soccom could have been multi-platform for all I care, it’s not like it was back in ps2 era. MAG would stay exclusive to the ps3, besides, it’s not like we can play with Xbox players anyway.
Anyway, that’s what Sony should do instead of killing their franchises and the PS family.

Playing: too many games at once, Uncharted 3.
      Reading: PSM, of course.
      Listening: Music Unlimited
Watching: Most of my shows seasons on cable are over, beyond streaming stuff on the Internet, nothing much. Besides, I’m too busy playing theses 6-7 games I just bought online.
(…….I really don’t have the time to play them all and get all the trophies with work and everything)

    • Just looked at the Metacritic score for Wheels of Destruction. 48/100. This game was part of the Spring Fever promotion.

This kind of sums up the state of PSN. You guys just seem way behind the curve when it comes to getting a consistent stream of good quality indie games exclusive to the service. The Spring Fever promo and others like it should be about showcasing great titles on PSN. Please look at XBLA and take notes. Maybe think about putting someone else in charge of getting quality indie games on PSN because the current person is not doing a very good job.

    • Playing.. SSX
Watching … Being human season 1.
      Reading … The secret garden.
Listening… To tomb raider music while playing SSX lol. Lara croft is my girl :)

    • Helllo Sony I would like expres what has me concerened and my other five close friends, and almost all of my playstation network friends own a Vita we are a little angry with you by the way you are working with the Vita, is too slow we still cant download from our Vitas playstation one games(any) and psp, only some, another thing that hanst been released yet are the aplications Skype, whats happening that skype isnt avaible to be downloaded yet, I hope that for this week is avaible and I would like to know why the other new aplications havent been anounced. Please speak with the Mozilla Firefox company so they develop a better browser for the Vita, or if not a Google Chrome, what we couldnt believe and astonished us was that the Vita doesnt have adobe flash player, and in internet you cant do almost anything without adobe flash player, we cant see videos from websites please in the next update add full support Adobe Flash Player 11.1.102.63, and JavaScrippt belive me you will make me feel glad and all my friends.
remember the best promotion is a satisfied customer and a console (PS VITA) off is bad promotion
