See PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale in Action

Today marks a special day for us here at SuperBot Entertainment, as we finally get to share our game with the world! PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale existed as an idea in the hearts of gamers way before SuperBot got around to making it, and the expectations of the fans are really what drive us. This game is a labor of love, and we’re excited to be able to finally show it — learn more in our new video interview above.

PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale

So what is PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale? First and foremost, it’s a celebration of a storied history of great characters and rich worlds brought together in one game. And for us, there’s no better way to celebrate than by creating an experience that players can sit around one screen and enjoy together. There are probably a few types of games that can be enjoyed by four players simultaneously, but for us at SuperBot, a brawler was the obvious choice for one really good reason: the developers here at SuperBot really like fighting games. We love playing them and we love making them. With PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, we set out to make an experience accessible enough for all PlayStation fans to enjoy while also creating something deep enough for the serious fighting game aficionado. We think this “accessible yet deep” strategy is the perfect way to bring PlayStation fans of all stripes together.

The game features a number of cool game modes for both single and multiplayer, with a focus on online play which features a robust tournament mode. Players will be able to compete against each other as well as play cooperatively. We can’t wait for you all to try it for yourself.

Until then, please stay tuned; there are plenty more features, characters, and levels we want to show. And you definitely don’t want to miss what we’ve got in store for E3!

  • Jak and Daxter…? Please? Yes?

  • Cookie and Cream, Jack and Daxter, Spyro, Crash, Ratchet and Clank, dot hero, Wander from Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, Nariko, Sora, Giorgio Bruno and Evan Bernard or Keith Martin and Robert Baxter or any other time crisis main characters, and Yakuza

  • Many others have made great suggestions. Here is mine, Kat from Gravity Rush. Put her in there. :)

  • Ezio Auditore and Sonic The Hedgehog!!!!!! PLEASEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I liked this game better when it was called Super Smash Bros.

  • (Warning, this lengthy, multi-part comment with constructive feedback from a lover of Sony and fighting games, read only if you have the time). (Part 1)

Wow! This project is truly something spectacular to behold! I’ve been wondering for quite some time if Sony would ever bring characters from their beloved franchises all into one game and now it seems that fans like me will be getting the fighting game they’ve always dreamed for. From what I’ve seen/read from the Playstation Blog and other media like Game Trailers this new title looks very promising so far, however I did have a few concerns I’d like to address, first and foremost being the game’s “Super Meter.”

  • (Continued Part 2)

From what I understand this Super Meter is the main focus on how the game is played since characters can only be KOed by a super. While this concept is a welcome changed from the percentage meter from Super Smash Bros. it does raise some concern that there won’t be as much strategy as there potentially could be. Correct me if I’m mistaken but, in the game’s current form, characters can build their Super Meter by attacking other characters or by picking up special items, but once that Super Meter fills it never depletes again unless it’s from a special item. This means that there is no real penalty for your character being hit which means the player won’t be as immersed in the games mechanics. Blocking would be trivial since there’s no loss of life upon being hit. In addition stages like the Hades that have hazards also become trivial since there is no penalty for being hit apart form a slight stun period., leading to an opponent’s attack that, unless it’s a Super Move, will also have no effect on your character’s life either.

  • (Continued Part 3)

It would be such a shame to see those beautiful stages with cross-franchise twists got to waste which is why I propose a mechanic that adds more risk to your character should be included in the final product. Somehow your character should be penalized for being hit either by draining their Super Meter or something similar to that effect. If a player last portion of their Super Meter when hit by normal attacks, blacking would play more of a pivotal role in gameplay while at the same time making the stage’s hazards all the more gangerous. Now players will have more incentive to doge Hade’s strike in order to preserve their Super Meter to take down their opponents. Of course if they don’t have any Super Meter at a given time and are hit by an opponent they won’t lose any Meter so this mechanic only punishes players who are doing well in the match while giving the underdogs a chance to catch up.

strike in order to preserve their Super Meter to take down their opponents. Of course if they don’t have any Super Meter at a given time and are hit by an opponent they won’t lose any Meter so this mechanic only punishes players who are doing well in the match while giving the underdogs a chance to catch up.

  • (part 5)
Another prospect to consider for this game in addition to “Meter Drain” is to be able to take down your opponents even without a super meter with a mechanic called a “Zero Meter” or “Negative Meter” the idea is that every character starts off in a match with full Special Meter Bar but CANNOT use this bar to perform a special. Instead a character must build up a second bar through normal combat means in order to use a Level One Super. Consecutively a Level Two Super would need three total bars and a Level Three Super would require four but the idea is, after a super is performed, the character is still left with the single Super Meter Bar they began the match with.

  • (Continued part 6)
That’s why it’s called a “Zero” or “Negative Meter” because it never gets used up from supers and is always present on the character. That is because the “Zero Meter” is only significant when a player is hit by another player or stage hazard. Let’s say Kratos uses his Level Three Super, transforming into a god and crushes his enemies; once he reverts back Kratos would be left with no Special Meter Bar save for his “Zero Meter” Bar which would be the default setting (since the “Zero Meter is never used up during a special). Now Sweet Tooth has revived and manages to get the drop on Kratos, slashing him with a chainsaw and pelting Kratos with bullets. Because Super Meters are now drained from being hit by another character, Kratos’ “Zero Meter” begins to drain just like a normal meter would. With part of his “Zero Meter” drained, Kratos would then have to fight in order to gain his “Zero Meter” back first BEFORE he would be able to build any new meter for specials. Additionally if Krato’s “Zero Meter” were to ever be fully depleted, then he would be KOed by his opponent without the opponent using a Super Move.

  • (Continued Part 7)
Having proposed this concept of a “Zero Meter” I think it would benefit in creating variety in gameplay, but at the same time I realize that is a larger deviation from the game’s original concept than my previous suggestion of “Meter Drain.” As such I consider this a dea more of a suggestion of something I’d like to see rather than a necessary game mechanic like losing a portion of your Super Meter when your character is hit. I only ask for whomever is reading this to simply consider this as a possibility.

  • (Continued part 8)
The last aspect of the game’s design I wanted to address was the size of the character’s sprites in relation to the game’s stages. I realize that what has been show to us so far is not the final version of the game, but as a fighting game fan I have to wonder why the character sprite are so small? I bring this up not only as a design flaw but an aesthetic flaw as well. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that the intros for each of the characters show wonderfully detailed in-game models, so why is it then that the camera zooms so far out? It becomes very difficult to tell what’s going on or who’s character is who when each model is too small to see properly. Therefore I ask, if at all possible, please make the character’s models a little bigger. It would help a lot in the long run.

  • (Continued Part 9)
That’s all I wanted to say in terms of game design, now I’d like to take a moment to list some theird party companies and their respective characters that I’d like to see in this title and briefly discuss why they would be good choices for this game:

  • Awesomeee. I hope Gex is included in this. I miss him dearly. haha. Gex was my childhood. Also hope for Crash, Medievil dude too

  • (Continued part 10)
First and foremost is Square Enix and their respective characters from the “Final Fantasy” and “Kingdom Hearts” series. Square Enix would be a smart choice to include as a potential third party both for the number of console exclusive titles that debuted on the Playstation 2 and for the large fanbase for their characters. Square Enix has a wide cast of characters to choose from spanning through three generations of consoles which means that Sony can grab a wide cast of potential characters from just a single third party. The characters I would most want to see in Playstation All-Stars are Sora (possibly Riku) and a Heartless From the Kingdom hearts series as well as Cloud Strife and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7. These characters are the most recognizable and will please the most amounts of fans who will be playing Playstation All-Stars.

  • (Continued part 11)
Another well know series to consider is the Playstation exclusive Disgaea from Nippon Ichi Software. Like Final Fanasy and Kingdom Hearts this series has a large fan base and has appeared on many of Sony’s platforms. The characters are fun, quirky, and would transition beautifully to a zany brawler game such as this. The characters I would recommend most would be Laharl, Etna, and one of the Prinnies.

  • (Part 12)
The one company I would recommend AVOIDING for this game is Capcom. Despite their massive fighting roster and list of crossover fighters, the videogame community is not very happy towards that company. I would hate to see this wonderful title tarnished by the baggage Capcom would bring and fear even more for the types of business practices they might try to pull if given the chance. There are plenty of other third party to choose from with far more credibility, Sony doesn’t need to include them simply because they’ve made other fighting games (and in my honest opinion Sony is better off without Capcom).

  • (part 13)
Other characters include (in no particular order):

Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon- both made their debut on the Playstation and it would be a real treat to see them back at their old home one last time

Noir and Uni from Hyperdimension Neptunia and Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 respectively- both games appeared exclusively on the Plastation 3 (an, you know, they are physical character incarnations of the PS3)

Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid- Apart from having a Playstation 3 exclusive game that received high, it would be interesting to see this character appear simply for the novelty that this would not be the first appearance Snake has made in a crossover brawler like PlaystationAll-Stars.

  • (Part 14)
Lastly the yet-to-be-confermed first party characters and stages I would like to see are:
Ratchet and Clank from Rachet and Clank
Jak and Daxter from Jak and Daxter
    Cole MacGrath from Infamus
A Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet (would be interesting if he were a customable fighter, editing moves as well as his appearance)
    Ellen from Folklore
    Nariko from Heavenly Sword
    The “Apprentice” from Sorcery
    Nathan Drake from Uncharted
A completely original character that would debut in Playstation All-Stars, it would be a grand opportunity for a new character!!!

    And stages:
I would love to see a Whipeout spliced with Modnation Racers Stage
The “Sinking Ship” from Uncharted 3 or the “Train Ride” from Uncharted 2
    An Ico stage
    An echocrome stage
    A Folklore Stage
    A Heavy Rain Stage
    A Sport’s Champions Stage
    A Resistance Stage
    A Sorcery Stage
    A Starhawk Stage
A Start the Party Stage (that actually works with the Plastation Eye for those who own one to show the players in the background of the stage)

That’s everything, I hope this helps the Playstation community as I’d like to do my duty and provide constructive feedback to a company that is willing to listen.

  • there needs to be a large character selection imbedded in this game. some characters that should be in the game should be….
-nathan hale, joseph capelli, and any chimeran (resistance series)
    -nathan drake, sulli ( uncharted)
    -ratchet and clank
    -jak and daxter
-calypso, dollface, and Mr. Grim (twisted metal)
    -cole (infamous)
-a baseball player from MLB the show
    -spyro
    -crash bandicoot
-that nerdy caddy with huge teeth lol ( hot shots golf)
    – hell throw in the guy in the playstation commercials (Kevin Butler)

  • they need to add
murry and carmelita fox (from sly)
    crash bandicoot
ratchet and clank and quark (from ratchet and clank)
    jak and daxter

  • To the people who want multiple characters from the same game, i dont think it would be cool to do that reason being is that they could end just fighting the same way EG Nathan drake and Sully, both awesome characters but there movesets would’nt diverge that much instead, id perfer more characters from different backgrounds so that each character has a distinct fight style. like how the current “announced” characters look as they all play differently. Really digging the Celebration of the Playstation Nation Vibe that is awesomeness!!!
Characters i would love to see
    -Crash Bandicoot
    -Spyro the Dragon
    -Old Snake/PS1 Solid Snake
-Atleast Either of Jubei, Samanosuke, Soki from Onimusha
    -Croc

looking forward to more updates on this game lookings pretty awesome :)

  • There is no way in hell this thing is gonna be ANYTHING other than a complete train wreck. All this thing is is a Smash Bros. clone, and Smash Bros. sucks to begin with. Great job guys, a poorly made knockoff of something that’s already terrible…because NOBODY demanded it.

I’m still going to be watching this one closely though, to see just how bad it can get, and to watch the developers struggle to maintain the lie that this thing ISN’T a thinly-veiled ripoff. I’m also going to enjoy watching people cry out for the inclusion of characters that Sony doesn’t own the rights to.

That said, I do suppose that there is a good chance that some FFVII characters will make the cut. Sure, that game was awful and hasn’t aged well, but Square-Enix will likely do anything for cash these days, so one could imagine that they’d loan out Cloud and company for a small fee.

  • Should really consider putting in the guys from Folklore…..kidna like the Pokemon Trainer of SSB..

  • zacthemagnificen

DART FROM LEGEND OF DRAGOON!DART FROM LEGEND OF DRAGOON!DART FROM LEGEND OF DRAGOON!DART FROM LEGEND OF DRAGOON!

  • zacthemagnificen

    AND JAK

  • Booman_da_truth

I wanna see more 3d character blend like kratos.

    I would love to see

    Dante from Dante inferno
Dante and/or Nero from devil may cry
    war,death, and stryfe from darksiders?

Mix it ip with some close combat fighters like
Marshall law, jin, kazuya, feng wei, howarang. And much more from tekken

Lots of good character but more combative 3d characters as of kratos in please! :(

  • Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII or Fayt Leingod from Star Ocean: Till the End of Time.

  • the1truesushiboy

If you’re going to call it “All-Stars”, I will be MASSIVELY disappointed if the three original kings of Playstation aren’t included.

I’m talking about Spyro the dragon, Crash Bandicoot, and Spike from Ape Escape.

THOSE THREE… were the nonpareil, true all-stars of the Playstation system.

Eventually, the next generation of games gave us Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, and Sly Cooper. But as glad as I am to see them on the roster, I would be saddened to see that their predecessors get no recognition.

Aside from those three, I would love to see Chrono Cross included. Perfect ratings and one of the greatest hits… I think it deserves the honour of being called all-star material. Really, it was a fantastic game, even if you’re more of a fan of Chrono Trigger than it’s spiritual successor, I think BOTH are actually more than worthy.

And while on the topic of RPGs, FFVII has GOT to be on there. I mean come on.

As is, I know I’ll be getting this game either way, because it already has decent franchises that I like.

  • are you reading our posts ? if yes please reply saying “yes” or anything :)

could you add Specter (Ape Escape) ? I’ll buy it with any price if you do !

he is the only character that I want !

    thank you and Good Luck.

  • Oh wow, I forgot about Cookie and Cream! That’s be interesting to see , but I’ll survive if they aren’t playable. Maybe they can be in the background of a jungle-themed area.

Also, I practically screamed in joy when I saw Buzz rise up out of the ground in the LBP stage. You guys are amazing!! :D

  • You know who else is classic I just remembered? Frogger. As a humanoid and not just a regular frog, with his Frog-Fu.

Also Zapper the wicked cricket. I know he’s like really small, but perhaps you guys at SuperBot could make him bigger? Just throwing him out there.

I’m so anxious for another reveal! :D

  • I’m reading over some of the earlier posts and I remembered Vexx! That dude was feral in his demo I played when I was a kid. He’d be a great addition I think.

But of course, my main ones I wish in will stay Spike (look from Ape Escape 2), Sackboy, Tag, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Ari and Stan, Valvatorez, and the Hero Prinny.

Of course I hope everyone I wished gets in, but these have more priority to me.

  • Right now this game is a maybe, but if you can add Sora from Kingdom Hearts it will be a must buy! It would be awesome to have him in a fighting game! Also, Sackboy would be nice too, considering how much he slaps people.

  • This looks great, Superbot is doing a awesome job with this game. This is one of those games that slowly gains up hype and Im pretty sure this will deliver! I love the concept of mixing the stages together, especially Hades/Patapon. A few personal suggestions from me and some even are alittle off the wall to be possible but its just fun thinking of the possibilities:
-The Wanderer from Shadow of the Colussus
    -PS1 Spyro
-Jade from Beyond good and Evil: Wouldnt a BG&E/Rachet&Clank stage crossover rock?
    -Sora from Kingdom Hearts
-Anyone from Ape Escape, such a part of Playstation History
-Anyone from Katamari seires, heck the King himself! He would be fabulous
-Jimmy Hopkins from Bully, imagine him giving Kratos a wedgie.
-Waffle from Tail Concerto for PS1
-Agumon from Digimon ps1 seires, a bit silly, but their games are nostalgic to a bit of people

And thats only a few, the guessing game is the best part with these kinds of things.

  • I want Dante from Devil May Cry

  • I would like these characters…

lau from the game bujingai…look him up.
    Cat from gravity rush
a hunter and huntress from monster hunter.
the boy and girl from malicious.
    caim from drakenguard
    laharl from disgaea
    kite,blackrose from dot hack.

  • will we get cole mcgrath? and if so InFamous 1, or 2? possibility of alex mercer, of james heller? even though that was a multi platform game.

  • I have to mention that an daily or even a weekly update blog is going to be vital if you guys want to keep this game relevant and keep people’s interest. Even just little details being revealed every few days would be AWESOME.

http://www.playstationallstarsbattleroyale.com already has that countdown but I hope that after E3, the updates are a lot more frequent. If it’s only every 30 days or so, I can see people zoning out during that month or so of downtime.

  • Just got through some of White Knight Chronicles, and I have to say, Leonard needs to be in this game. He could be given either a longsword (To make him more unique, since it Sora gets in, he’ll probably have the quicker attacks), or a sword & shield combo. The Charged Attack could be transforming into the White Knight and being able to run around and attack (With more damaging attacks). He and Sora are somewhat alike, but different enough to make me want to see them both.

    1. The Prince of Persia

All you gotta do is toss in Sweet Tooth from the Metal that is Twisted to a game, and I’m all set for it. TWISTED METAL FTW (also, loving that you included Sweet-Bot. Doubles the value in my eyes).
