PlayStation Store Update

Hi Everyone –
It’s a banner week for the PlayStation Store with the debut of great new titles, an out of this world PlayStation Plus update, the return of some treasured classics and much more.

PlayStation Store Update

Make your first stop this week with Awesomenauts. PlayStation Plus subscribers know from last week’s May preview that this title is free this month starting today! This colorfully action packed 2D online multiplayer battler with split-screen gameplay drops you in frantic online environments. Unlock loads of new abilities and characters for your arsenal, get in on the co-op action and storm the online arenas in Awesomenauts! Read up more on the game in PlayStation.Blog’s post with tons of info and screens from the game.

PlayStation Store Update

Then power up your PS Vita and download Mortal Kombat. Featuring the same over the top combat and fidelity from the console release, this version brings all-new PS Vita exclusive content (kontent?) like 150 new Challenge Tower missions that incorporate the DLC characters (like Freddy Krueger!), while also integrating the front touchscreen and accelerometer in ways that enhance the complete Mortal Kombat experience. Read more from the blog’s coverage on the PS Vita edition of Mortal Kombat.

This week also offers a healthy dose of the classics. In the PS2 Classics category, two great games are available to download in their original glory: Max Payne and Rayman 2 Revolution. Rockstar’s Max Payne follows a gritty noir tale infused with action packed gameplay. Check it out as a great way to get prepared for the imminent release of PS3 game Max Payne 3 on 5/15. Rayman 2 Revolution delivers an adventure taking gamers to a dream-like world in which they must prevent invasion from robot pirates. It’s fun for the whole family!

Old-school RPG fans won’t want to miss Legend of Dragoon arriving to the PS one Classics section as well. Featuring a classic JRPG story, riveting combat and a unique art style; relive this adventure or experience it for the first time starting today.

PlayStation Plus subscribers, this month’s content kicks off with a bang with the already mentioned free Awesomenauts, but also Trine 2 and two banner PS one classics with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Castlevania Chronicles. You can also now access the hotly anticipated PixelJunk 4am beta. Download the online viewer beta before anyone else and get in on this never before seen (or heard) experience. Don’t forget, PixelJunk 4am releases PSN-wide on 5/15.

There’s much more arriving this week, including PSN Game Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time, new PSN Minis, and all new PS3 Full Games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2! Make sure you check out all the details below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below and come back next week to see what’s new in the PlayStation Store, or join the discussion on the PlayStation Community forums in the Official PlayStation Store Update thread.

  • Ah forgot about the PS+. i gotta say for once in my opinion its actually good. Dont know what Awesomnaut is, but im willing to give it a try, i played Trine, but didnt enjoy it, but i heard the second one fixed up a lot of problem the first one had. SotN i already own, but not Chronicles, and this Beta seems nice since i enjoy Pixeljunk games. Although i think it would be better if you gave psp and vita titles within these ps+ updates as i feel ps+ is only targeted towards ps3 users only.

If only more updates were like this.

  • Pretty awesome (and early) update. Buy Awesomenaughts and show dtp support by the way please playstation bro’s and sis’s.

  • Thanks for the early update! Time to hop on GT Academy.

  • Youtube app?
    Starhawk Avatars?
    Twisted Metal Avatars?
    God of War multiplayer video?
Playstation All Star Battle Royale video?
Playstation All Star Battle Royale Avatars to promote the marketing.
Please Kaz Hirai,Jack Tretton, Yoshida,Morgan Haro and Grace Chen do something to keep the hype of this 2 greats Games.

  • I’m not totally sure who to thank here, but I must say something. Thank you for such an impressive Store update and wealth of free content for PS Plus. Also, your dedication to fans in offering Legend of Dragoon (arguably the most asked-for of all PSone Classics) is seriously appreciated.

  • 1) When is Deep Black (a downloadable-only underwater sci-fi 3rd-person shooter for PSN) coming to the PS Store?

    2) We PS plus subscribers need an increase on that 150MB limit for cloud game-saves.

  • An update on the situation with PS+ Minis and the PS Vita?

  • Nice update, but I do have a suggestion. Please be upfront about Vita game pricing and incentives. I was waiting to buy MK on PSN because I assumed it would be cheaper, I had no indication it would be full price. Similar issue with Gravity Rush. I would like to buy the PSN version, but it appears that it will not include the preorder incentives. Maybe it will, but no one responded to questions about that.

I want to buy the games, but the lack of pricing info is making it hard for me to make informed decisions.

  • PS + dont have any integration with the Vita content?

  • Nice update. But Operation Raccoon City Weapons Pack?? Where’s Echo Six Expansion Pack 2??

  • You guys killed it with the update!! Please continue to push great support on the PS Store and PSN!!!!

  • Red Faction last week and Max Payne this week! Sony you are the best! Keep in coming! Although I don’t mean to sound greedy, but are we to expect Max Payne 2 the following week? It would be nice to relive both of them before I jump into the 3rd game.

Oh, and lets not forget Legend of Dragoon. I about hit the roof when I saw that available. It’s about the only (older) game I’ve kept around for some reason. But I’ve been unable to play it since I don’t have backwards compatibility anymore. Thank you for putting this up! You guys are awesome keep it up!

  • Sick Update! I am stoked at all the stuff I got from PSN Plus with my first subscription and to think I pay for a subscription with the “other console” and I only get to play online ..no free game offers just normal demos that you guys give without subscription. Thanks Sony. Also with this update being up so early I’ll be able to do my game stream Weekly Release on http://www.twitch.tv/antdagamer77 early this evening without worries. Thanks! Big up TO PSN!

  • An early and awesome update? Quite a rarity indeed..

  • When will invites for those with PlayStation Move controllers go out for PixelJunk 4 AM? I’d love to go perform for an audience of fellow PS+ members!

While I wait, I’ll enjoy all the Plus content this week! Great update!

  • wow both April and May first Tuesday’s of month have been early updates and every week in between am loving it being a plus member also good to see Sony puled threw even with all the troubles going on with the publishers of Awesomenauts

  • Sony FTW!

Nice job on the update. Awesome perks for PS+ users, glad I renewed my subscription. This is why I promote Sony to friends. Keep it up!

  • $5.99 for Legend of Dragoon? best classic price EVER!

I still have the original discs but I would 100% for sure download it if I could put it on my newly aquired Vita so I could play it on the go. When Sony, whenare you ging to let us play PS1 and PS2 on the Vita? thats why it took me so long to buy one

  • “The Warriors” Please come on Rockstar! I would purchase “The Warriors” in a heartbeat if it was released. It’s one of my all-time favorites and definitely a classic PS2 title make it happen.

  • Part 1:

Okay, so I have little to do with the North American Store Update, since I am a European PlayStation customer, but even so, I wish to say something here, as well.

For a long time now, I consider myself a loyal PlayStation customer. I own every major console bearing the name, excluding the PSX (that Japanese device that also used the XMB) and the PSPGo, and I still happily play games on any of those systems. Yes, that is to say I play games that were released on the original PlayStation, on an original PlayStation. I have no need for upscaling or smoothing, I play the games how they were originally released!

However, at the same time, I also have a weakness for the HD Collection and HD remakes of titles. I can say I own every single HD Classic that has been released thus far on PlayStation consoles, and in the future, new HD- releases of existing games will be added to my collection.

  • Hey Morgan,

Is the Skip DLC for Stardrone Extreme a permanent price drop or a temporary sale? It’s not in the discounts section of the store, so I’m wondering how long it will be free.

  • Part 2:

Now, I am, most of the time, genuinely satisfied with the PlayStation Store updates on the European side, but there have been a few times when I was not. Most memorable was the one with the PSN-version of the Arcade game, The Simpsons. I am not a Simpsons-fan, and I never watch the show, but the way it (the announcement of the PSN-version) was handled, was not what I had expected from Sony. The other one is Skullgirls. You Americans are probably already playing the game for a number of weeks, and even European Xbox LIVE Arcade-purchasers have the game in their virtual possession, but European PSN-customers like myself, do not. Lucky for us, the game will be released this week. But it took SCEE a good three weeks to get it to the table.

  • Part 3:

Hopefully, Kazuo Hirai’s new plan, “One PlayStation,” will improve unity between SCEJ, SCEA and SCEE. It is much needed, because European PlayStation-customers feel left out almost every week due to missing content, content that has been delayed or content that has been cancelled.

But even with all this negativity, I must admit that I am a big fan of Sony and PlayStation. And of course, Nintendo is a great company, as well, with some amazing hardware and franchises. Last in my top 3 is Microsoft, which only has a limited number of interesting IP’s, in my opinion.

Keep going, Sony! Unite and make us proud!

  • What happened to Rock of Ages? That was mentioned a few days ago as being free for PS+ subscribers as well as Trine2 and Awesomenauts.

  • The “As Always, PlayStation Plus Members Get” is looking sparse. How about the following:

    – Customized dynamic themes:
Plus members get a theme folder in the photo tab. Any photos added to this folder get shuffled in a dynamic theme that includes a selection of XMB sound effects.

    – Synced PSN accounts:
Vita and PS3 PSN profiles have exclusive features. Plus member accounts with both a PS3 and Vita should have one account on both that displays both comments and panels.

    – Incorporate other aspects of SEN:
    – Music Unlimited Light version, for use on the PS3 and Vita.

    – Trophy Rewards:
All players can collect trophies, but Plus members should get content for each level reached.

A PlayStation Plus membership should improve the overall PlayStation experience.

  • Does anyone know how to sort PSN games alphabetically? The only sort options I have are Format, Recently Played, and the two Creation Date ways. Please help me out! It’s a complete mess when I have over 100 games loaded on my PS3!

  • Thanks for the reply Morgan !!

So if PS+ it’s not going anywhere, i’m not going anywhere neither haha !

Thanks and again great update !!

  • More like Awesome…NOT.

    – Vince

  • @71 – Rock of ages comes May 15 ! I know cause i have been waiting for that game too = P !

  • CAN ANYONE ANSWER ME IF MW3 WILL EVER BE AVAILABLE IN THE PSN STORE SOON

    • i don’t think anyone can answer that question with 100% confidence at the moment. but if i were to guess, (personal guess) it’s likely. no clue when though

  • Where can I find Floating Cloud God Saves The Pilgrims for my vita? Am I missing something?

  • Another crap week.

I swear, if I’d known Sony was going to pull this PS+ junk a year after I bought a PS3, I would not have bought a PS3 so I could just be turned into a second-class customer.

I mean, I seriously nerd-rage hate you guys.

  • “The Warriors” PS2 remake make it happen! Do any of you remember how sweet it was to play “The Warriors” your missing out on something special. Still have my hard copy, but no way to play without a PS2 which mine doesn’t work anymore. Again “The Warriors” PS2 classic.

  • I cant wait until tomorrow morning so I can play Trine 2 and Awesomenauts. Hopefully they are fun. This samurai theme is alright I guess. I still cant wait until E3 I want to see what new things are coming to Plus. Hopefully we can finally upgrade the cloud saves to 512 MB. And add some really good features to Plus to get more people to join.

  • Nice and early, but nothing for me this week. My only interest would have been LoD, but I bought it last year from the other PSN store already. Ahhh well….

  • anyone wanting a fatality can find me on mortal kombat Vita :D

  • Great day to be a ps+ subscriber :)

  • Legend of Dragoon nuff said.

  • @usuyami: the best you can do is create folders. You could make some with each letter of the alphabet. I have mine set up in genres.

Also great store and PS+ update this week Sony. Plenty more games to add to my backlog.

  • The Legend of Dragoon for $5.99 – Is that a typo? ‘Cause if not, then OMG THX!!!

Now to find a way to use my Gamestop store credit on a code for the game…

  • omega_alpha-619

    @drakenbutch

    The Answer is: NO

  • Great update, I want to play Legend of Dragoon again, but I’m going to wait for Vita PSone support.

  • YOU DONT REALY KNOW IF THEY ARE GOING TO PUT MW3 UP AND MAYBE SOMEDAY THEY WILL BC BATTLEFIELD 3 IS ALREADY IN PSN STORE THEN IN COUPLE MORE MONTH OR SO MW3 WILL BE IN AND SONY COULD AT LEAST ANSWER ME FOR ONCE SINCE I BEEN A FAN OF THERE FOR LONG TIME

  • omega_alpha-619

    @drakenbutch

    The Answers is STILL: NO

  • IM NOT ASKIING U AND U DONT KNOW CRAP WHAT SONY PUT ON PSN STORE

  • The early updates are much appreciated, thanks!

  • RedHotRidingHood

Will there be any discounts for Sony’s first party game add ons on PS+. If so please consider the Motorstorm Pacific Rift DLC, Modnation Racers DLC and other disc based games content. Also, please consider adding Tomba 1 and 2 to the US store I realize licensing could be an issue. Thank you for your time.

  • I think it’s getting pretty funny how it’s always the same one’s complaining, even when something good happens. Think it’s time to start ignoring those people.

  • Thanks Sony and keep it up! Although I won’t buy another PS1 Classic until I can play it on my Vita. Is PlayStation Suite the reason for the delay of PS1 support on Vita? Because one of the main purposes of PS Suite is to emulate PS1 classics for the Vita and Sony smartphones and for people to make Indie apps for those systems. I don’t know why you have to be so secretive about things that could boost your popularity. I had to read about PS Suite on Yahoo and Engadget. No official mention of it here as far as I can tell. It could get some people excited about the Vita again which obviously is not selling very well right now.

  • Too bad Trine 2 is still unplayable on Asian PS3’s. It’s very disappointing as I loved the first Trine. I hope someone from Frozenbyte reads this and can update on what’s the status of the bug/patch.

For those who don’t know, you can’t allocate skill points in the game because the X and O are interchanged on Asian PS3’s. :(
