PlayStation Store Update

Hi Everyone –
It’s a banner week for the PlayStation Store with the debut of great new titles, an out of this world PlayStation Plus update, the return of some treasured classics and much more.

PlayStation Store Update

Make your first stop this week with Awesomenauts. PlayStation Plus subscribers know from last week’s May preview that this title is free this month starting today! This colorfully action packed 2D online multiplayer battler with split-screen gameplay drops you in frantic online environments. Unlock loads of new abilities and characters for your arsenal, get in on the co-op action and storm the online arenas in Awesomenauts! Read up more on the game in PlayStation.Blog’s post with tons of info and screens from the game.

PlayStation Store Update

Then power up your PS Vita and download Mortal Kombat. Featuring the same over the top combat and fidelity from the console release, this version brings all-new PS Vita exclusive content (kontent?) like 150 new Challenge Tower missions that incorporate the DLC characters (like Freddy Krueger!), while also integrating the front touchscreen and accelerometer in ways that enhance the complete Mortal Kombat experience. Read more from the blog’s coverage on the PS Vita edition of Mortal Kombat.

This week also offers a healthy dose of the classics. In the PS2 Classics category, two great games are available to download in their original glory: Max Payne and Rayman 2 Revolution. Rockstar’s Max Payne follows a gritty noir tale infused with action packed gameplay. Check it out as a great way to get prepared for the imminent release of PS3 game Max Payne 3 on 5/15. Rayman 2 Revolution delivers an adventure taking gamers to a dream-like world in which they must prevent invasion from robot pirates. It’s fun for the whole family!

Old-school RPG fans won’t want to miss Legend of Dragoon arriving to the PS one Classics section as well. Featuring a classic JRPG story, riveting combat and a unique art style; relive this adventure or experience it for the first time starting today.

PlayStation Plus subscribers, this month’s content kicks off with a bang with the already mentioned free Awesomenauts, but also Trine 2 and two banner PS one classics with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Castlevania Chronicles. You can also now access the hotly anticipated PixelJunk 4am beta. Download the online viewer beta before anyone else and get in on this never before seen (or heard) experience. Don’t forget, PixelJunk 4am releases PSN-wide on 5/15.

There’s much more arriving this week, including PSN Game Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time, new PSN Minis, and all new PS3 Full Games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2! Make sure you check out all the details below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below and come back next week to see what’s new in the PlayStation Store, or join the discussion on the PlayStation Community forums in the Official PlayStation Store Update thread.

  • The euro PS Store has received last week some Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode II avatars.

Are they going to appear on the US Store as well? Please, say yes =(

  • Please consider adding Dark Cloud 1 & 2 to PS2 Classics, for they truly are classics!

  • Props on having Legend of Dragoon at $5.99.^^

  • Big, big props to unsung heroes David Alonzo and George Weising, indeed! To everybody involved not just in bringing this game to us, but at such a considerate price point in these trying financial times!

Also: LEGEND OF LEGAIA FOR PS3/PSP TOTALLY NEEDS TO HAPPEN!

And Suikoden 2! Star cracking Konami heads!>:D

And Brave Fencer Musashi! Grrraaaah!! So many great PSOne Classics left to stick on PSN!!

  • Hey all you legend of dragoon fans out there (like me), this is our second chance to send sony a message (with our $, not just a petition) that we want more, even if you dont have time to play it right now, pick it up now and play it later.

anyone hear anything about how long before the vita will be playing ps1 classics? i got my psp years ago, hoping to one day play LoD on it, but nothing was never announced, then just weeks after i trade in my psp for a vita, they announced it. i know someone said in the past that there were still plans for this.

  • The Legend of Dragoon yes!!! I never got to beat it because it always froze at the end now i get to, thank you very much Sony.

  • ok, so i can understand several reasons why q-games has a limited beta on the performer version of the game but i have been on pixeljunk 4am for an hour now and there are no performers. so on drop day no one who has a beta code at 11 pm pst is playing? i would love to try this game out. i could be beta testing it right now. im a plus member with a move. hell i have 4 move controllers and 4 nav controllers and have been a musician for 25 years and a dj for 15 and eagerly waiting to try this game. please pass out a few more beta codes.

  • @waranabatokwa; Go to Frozenbyte’s official forums, they’re good about costumer service, but you have to meet them half way… by actually posting where they’ll see it. This is not the place. Send you a PM in case you never read this.

  • Hey, please work on getting Wild Arms 3, 4, 5 and Alter Code F up on the PlayStation Store.

I’d think that XSeed would be fine with it, they’re the ones that localized them. It’s Sony’s IP… and we have Wild Arms and Wild Arms 2 as PSone Classics. It’d be awesome to have every Wild Arms game on PSN. We have XF too, also localized by XSeed, and it’s even supported on PSVita.

Speaking of Wild Arms… it would also be nice if you put up the Wild Arms: Twilight Venom anime on the PS Store… I have it on DVD, but I’d buy it digitally too. <3 Wild Arms… still hope for more. Media.Vision and Sony… make it happen on PSVita…

    I miss Wild Arms. ):

  • Symphony of the Night!!!! Can you tell I’m a fan? ::cough:: Alucard avatar ::cough::

And Legend Of Dragoon?! This was such a nostalgia inducing update! And hey SONY! I’m STILL waiting for a sequel to that amazing game! :P

  • Mind if i ask, wheres my SFXT update? :(

  • Flesch_Eater000

so betas dont get released to non ps plus anymore when did this start? sony when are whe going to get our next update of psp games we can play on the vita? add more psp games in the psn store including the psp resistance games i want to play these on the vita while waiting for burning skies to come out. i need more psp games to play on the vita so i can have a variety to play. i got the stinking thing and i dont even use it because the games out for it pretty much suck. also why was retribution removed from the store? you have to put the games in the psn store since we cant use our umd’s.

  • I know it was a mistake, that originally the PSN team listed Max Payne 2 releasing this week. I am very disappointed to find out it is the first one, since I have finished that several times, yet never finished the second one.

So, is Max Payne 2 going to be on the store, and soon or long time from now?

  • nothing to go ape about yet again… all the more time to sink into FFXI and FFXIV again..

  • Legend of Dragoon!!!!

    ‘Bout damn time!

  • madhukrishna9999

    good

  • PSN + is the best program ever. With good reason this is a marquee initiative on ps3. I pity xbox live gold users.

By the way, the digital version of Mortal Kombat Vita is not discounted, just like UMvC 3. Any reason why?
Dont get me wrong, I bought them both.

Keep them coming PSN+! Thank you!

  • I’m sorry to tell you this but I may not getting or playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 for 2 reasons:

    1) It has online trophies/achievements (I only buy games publised by Electronic Arts that only included offline trophies/achivements and no online trophies/achievements or no trophies/achievements at all).

    2) My PC can not handle it (My mom has this game for PC and was told by an employee at Best Buy that it was a junky game because almost every single PC can not handle it).

  • PSone Classics

    Legend of Dragoon ($5.99)
    File size 1.14 GB
not in singapore why its not fair

  • Bought Legend of Dragoon, never played it before and really looking forward to playing it this weekend. Glad to see Max Payne and Rayman 2 Revolution having played Max Payne but never Rayman 2. Keep those PS2 Classics coming, you guys!

  • @acwey “By the way, the digital version of Mortal Kombat Vita is not discounted, just like UMvC 3. Any reason why? don’t get me wrong, I bought them both”

I think you answered your own question. I kind of hope more people won’t buy the digital version of anything if it costs the same as retail. As we move into a digital only future I can only hope game companies realize they are saving money that they should pass on to us.

  • Wow, you guys mess up and won’t even say anything about Max Payne 2, or answer questions about it.

  • @Squiggle55

I have to agree with you, but in the future when there are more games available for the Vita, 5 bucks is going to make difference, not now.

When I need to choose between games. Now I don’t have much of a choice, do I?

As to personal preference. I do prefer the digital copy in every way, so the retail package is not attractive to me, even at the same price.
People prefer the retail, so they can sell after, I like to own the game collection and have no intention on re-selling it.

But I get your point, and I wish they would give us the discount, because the digital version cost less, not because I think it has less value.

  • great update.. free awesomenauts, free castlevania classics and the original Max Payne.. im a happy gamer.. thanks

  • Awesomenauts is quite amazing. Not sure why there is no hip-hop in 4am though! What a shame.

  • Awesomenauts is so addicting. Really fun 2D DoTa/LOL

  • wow!!!! thx sony !!!! nice ;)

  • Great Update this week Especially Legend of Dragoon!!! I would love to see Phantom Brave on there soon for PS3 instead of PSP.

  • Battlefield is garbage, anyway. The aim assistance on that game is ramped up so high, you’d have to deliberately try not to get headshots.

You could unload into someone’s shoelaces and get a headshot in that game. Pure garbage.

  • Song fans ask for Dragoon, we get Dragoon. Nintendo fans ask for Earthbound, they get jack. This is why I sold my Wii.

  • Ill admit when I saw awesomenaughts I was not planning on downloading the game. Im glad I did download it. Its a fun little game, online is a blast. And Tryne 2 is fun as well.

Thank you for two enjoyable games.

  • Awesomenauts looks very good, i am interested.

  • Very nice update! Loving it!!! Thanks again Sony.!

  • Morgan, I wonder if there is the possibility of someday PSN Plus to give subscribers the full PSP games not Minis, but games like GOW Ghost of Sparta and other ?

  • since the first max payne made it to the psn… will the second one be remade as well cuz i want to play every story before the third

  • Dr…Dra…Dragoon! omg! i thought that game was lost in time. I have that 4 CD game in my drawer right now. If only i could move my save file over…..

  • Please don’t let the Twisted Metal fan base down. Please create (if you are not in the process of already doing so) Twisted Metal avatars.

Also there is a TM petition for DLC:
    http://www.groubal.com/twisted-metal-dlc-from-eat-sleep-play-and-sony/#signatures
I would LOVE to see some old favorite vehicles like Mr. Slam and Brimstone if possible…

  • Very disappointed that I can’t get Velocity to install to my new shiny Vita. :(

  • Bring THE LEGEND OF DRAGOON to european psn pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaassssssssssseeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8| 8| 8|
