Persona 4 Golden Coming to PS Vita This Fall

PlayStation Blog,

Look at it. Just look at it. Your PlayStation Vita. It’s so sexy, isn’t it? Those sleek, glossy curves…Those adorable analog sticks…That gigantic OLED screen. Oh my goodness, dat screen.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if there were some RPG, some massive RPG with dozens and dozens of hours of tried-and-true gameplay and a captivating story to tell? Sure, it takes a while for every system to really get to that meaty part of its lifecycle, but luckily for PS Vita owners, their new handheld is going to get that game this fall.

That’s right, boys and girls, Persona 4 Golden, the enhanced and expanded (yet comfortably handheld) upgrade to the award-winning RPG classic, is coming to a PS Vita near you–preferably the one in your hands as you’re reading this–this fall.

The original game has an overall Metacritic score of 90 and tons of “Editor’s Choice” and “Best Of” awards. It’s generally considered one of the finest games ever made, certainly one of the best in its genre, delivering oodles of hours of enthralling storytelling, immensely satisfying combat, intricate party management, and addicting Persona collection and customization. Social Links, the system through which players can develop and strengthen bonds with characters in the game world—relationships that will enrich the overall experience and enhance their party’s combat capabilities—are as incredibly addictive and fulfilling as ever.

And then there’s all the new stuff, the improvements, if you will: remastered visuals and sounds; new Personas to collect; new story events along with an all-new character; 1.5 times the voiced dialogue of the original release; a new online “dungeon rescue” feature that allows users to call on other players for assistance in real time when they are about to die in the TV world; stunning new anime cutscenes, which include a new opening animation with a new song from master composer Shoji Meguro; a host of fan-suggested tweaks and changes, and much more!

When Persona 3 Portable, a similar handheld reimagining of an already terrific RPG, was released in 2010, it went down as the second-best reviewed game on the PSP (according to gamerankings.com) EVER. We figure it stands to reason that Persona 4 Golden and all of its enhancements are going to be one heck of a reason to boot up (or pick up) your PS Vita.

  • This is great news. I am a new fan of your series. I am playing Persona 3 Portable now and looking forward to 4.

    • Remmulak,

If you’re enjoying Persona 3 Portable, you’re going to LOVE Persona 4 Golden! There’s a reason the original game was Metacritic’s 2008 PS2 Game of the Year :)

  • I cannot wait for this. I have the game on PS2 but I never got around to playing it. Having it on the Vita is perfect for when I’m watching baseball or hockey.

  • wow i just bought P3P for my me and my gf, (i;m on the vita, her on my old psp), she gonnaa be excitedddd, hopefully we finish by then, such long/great games

  • Haha, Atlus has the best PS Blog posts.

    Can’t wait!

  • nemesisND1derboy

    Awesome news :)

Any news of a European release for this and Arena? I’ll probably import both if not, but it would be great if they got a European release :)

Also, any plans for a super awesome limited edition?

    • There are currently no details to discuss regarding a European release for either title, but that doesn’t mean that can’t change in the future. Stay tuned!

We have no details to discuss regarding a “super awesome limited edition” at this time either. I do concede that that’s a pretty darn cool name for a special edition, however.

So I basically didn’t have anything to answer your questions with, but I’d like to think it’s the thought that counts.

  • Now can we please get a way to digitally pre-order this and Gravity Rush? I wanna pay them off already.

  • This is an absolute day one purchase, damn I love Atlus.

  • Great to see more vita titles this is what we need.

  • Can someone explain to me what I do with my ps3 since the week goes by that is giving red screen and asking to contact technical support?
I wonder if there is some allowed me to solve this problem.
and no one better than this site to give me this answer
I am already dying to play on my ps3.
obs:. my console is locked and only the original game

  • Keep the RPGs coming Atlus!! I just picked up Persona 3 Portable for Vita so a Fall release will be perfect.

    • furystylee,

You can’t spell RPG without ATLUS!

(Well, you actually can completely spell RPG without ATLUS, but… Well… You know what I meant.)

  • Will preorder as soon as Amazon will let me!

  • Japanese language support?

  • Love it. Thanks for the announcement, Atlus. This is exactly what my PS Vita needs.

  • I love you, Atlus. <3 That is all I wanted to say. From the bottom of my heart. <3

  • DAT ARAM JABBARI.

  • @ Aram Jabbari

You forgot the smell. Take a whiff of the Vita, it smells good.

  • Thanks for some concrete news on its release! I plan to buy a Vita, thanks to this game. I also recommend P3P to all of my friends.

Please give us some P3 and P4 avatars to buy!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • “one of the finest games ever made…”
I’ll agree with that. Persona 4 was every bit as amazing as #3, but I liked the story even better.

Now if Atlus could squeeze Demon’s Souls onto the Vita, that would be yet another “one of the finest games ever made” on the system.

  • It’s all well & good to have Japanese RPGs coming to the PS Vita – but where the heck are the RPGs from American & European developers?

  • All that’s left for you to do is bring the other Persona 2 game over for PSP or Vita so we can have everything on one device.

  • Any news on returning VA cast? Or can we expect replacement voice actors such as Teddy in the Arena Tutorial. If so will these mean reworking all of their voice work?

    • An official response to your question:

Persona 4 Arena, being a fighting game with one of the most substantial story modes the genre has yet seen, represents one of the most ambitious recording projects in ATLUS history. Every effort was made to retain the fantastic talents of the Persona 3 and Persona 4 voice casts, who were responsible for making those roleplaying games so memorable.

In a couple cases, however—including Teddie, as noticed by fans—and despite our best efforts, circumstances mandated that changes be made. We’re confident in the quality of the final English dub and ask fans to reserve judgment until they can see—or in this case, hear—how each character has been brought to life within the game’s full context.

Any changes for Persona 4 Arena with regards to the voice cast *do not necessarily indicate* changes for Persona 4 Golden.

  • Awesome! Never got around to getting this, so now’s the perfect time! Hopefully they’ll get the PSone Classics on Vita working “soon”, so I can play the whole series on one device.

Also, Demon’s Souls on Vita is a great idea. If you were able to intigrate the servers between the PS3 version and the Vita version, we could have the servers up F0REVA!!!

  • Hmm, I was gonna say if there were any plans for any other RPG series for the Vita, then I realized the blog poster is from Atlus, and the games I had in mind weren’t Atlus titles.

Hm, ah well. I guess I could pick up P3P sometime down the line (still gotta work on getting Unit 13, Rayman 2 Revolution, and S4E2) in preparation for this game. Although these days, I’m kinda itching for a handheld RPG that spans more than just a city. Maybe it’s too much brentalfloss and his song about crossing mountains, plains, and oceans (as well as buying several buttloads of tents and potions), or…

    Waitaminute, rambling, sorry.

    • It’s ok. I stopped reading at “…the games I had in mind weren’t Atlus titles.”

      Mwahahahaha.

  • Awesome!! Been playing P3P on my Vita and enjoying it immensely! Can’t wait to play this, as a proper Vita title.

  • Thanks, Aram and Atlus! You never disappoint.

Please, I need to know however if the voice cast changes will be very significant or not. Buying anything Persona either way!

  • Just watched the first released video of Persona 4 Arena! And i know it’s not directly related to P4G, but i have to say that it looks EFFING AMAZING! It’s like Blazblue got 100 times better and is all about Persona! Why isn’t summer right now!?

  • Please SONY release Persona 4 the ps2 version in the PS2 section of the PSN store PLEASE

  • Yes! My body is ready…as soon as I get the Vita I’m buying Persona 3 Portable and this

  • Awesome!!! I knew you guys were going to localize P4 for the vita to NA but I did not think it was going to be this soon. I guess/hope it will be a September release so that it does not compete with the bigger titles of Oct and Nov. Either way it will be a day one purchase for me. Now where did i put that pspgo with P3P that I still have half a year left on?

  • @22, I could not imagine what better acclaimed RPG you could consider over the persona series. Not even FF, Tales, Ys, etc. come close.

  • DAMN! ive never played a persona game but damn im so eager to play a good JRPG on my vita this will be it!

  • Never got around to getting it on PS2, so I’m really looking forward to this.

  • You had my interest until “Vita” – l8r, dewdz.

  • Thank you so much, for your response Aram, you are simply the best PR guy in the biz, and not in the bad way.

  • OMFG!!!!I can’t wait for the fall!T^T

  • Finally getting more games for the Vita but it’s still a long ways off! The Vita needs more games like this!!!

  • Damn it, 4 months to save enough cash to get a Vita and the game. Don’t know if I can make it. ><

  • I’ll buy it. My original PS2 game hasn’t been opened yet.

  • Oh yes, will there be a Japanese track?

  • Hi, Aram!

I can’t believe no trophy ‘ho has asked this yet, so I will:
Trophies added? You did say this is remastered for my Vita, right?

    Either way, I’ll get this

@18, Boxmyth, I asked Aram that question before, because I, too, count Demon’s Souls as one of the best games I’ve ever played/suffered, and in short he told me, great idea, but ask someone else. I think he said From Software, but not sure about that. I hope he was just being coy to throw me off and that it will be a huge surprise announcement @ E3.

  • Will the NA release have dual audio?

I recently tried Persona 3 FES and the English dub made me want to jab pencils in my ears….

  • Can you guys please make some games or ports for the PS3?

I can’t stand portables. Having to stare downwards for all that time just isn’t comfortable. At the least get Sony to let me hook a Vita to the PS3 so I can have the game up on my TV. I don’t care about black bars. I would get one then.

Isn’t that one of the big things about the Vita in the first place? Having the same games for both platforms. I really thought everyone was starting to learn that the states love our consoles the way Japan loves their portables.

  • I can’t stop laughing at the “You can’t spell RPG without Atlus” comment.

  • This is FANTASTIC news! This is exactly what Vita needs. Keep this up! :)

  • cookiemonster525

Amazing news, I’m pumped to play it again with all the new content.

  • I have a question about Persona 4: Having never played any of the previous Persona titles, will I be able to pick up on the story from here? If so, count me in, I’ve been looking for a quality JRPG on the Vita and this looks like it should fit nicely.

  • i wish this was on the plastation 3 instead of vita so disapointed

  • can someone confirm if US version going to have the japanese voice or not?

  • Whoa Whoa Whoa, Atlus Faithful
    It’s Aram the man!

No, but seriously, can’t wait. Bring us more Vita goodness. Know what? Actually any system is fine.
    And nice shades.
