Long Live Play.. and Love?

It was about 3 years ago when I got my PS3. The first game I played on it was Heavenly Sword, and boy was that game amazing. (Still hoping for a sequel). But I have to say that the game I spent the most time on was Call of Duty 4. Countless, countless hours went into that game. But I had never thought of how gaming on PlayStation could lead to one of the coolest moments of my life.

I was in the 11th grade at the time and one day after school I was in the library. I was on the computer just browsing different gaming sites. Then this girl sat at the computer next to me and when I glanced at her… she was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen! I wanted to talk to her so bad, but I was so nervous. I sat there for at least 15 minutes trying to gain enough confidence just so she could realize I existed. As luck would have it, her phone rang, and I heard her speak. She said something like, “No, I already ate. When I’m done, I’m just gonna head home and play LittleBigPlanet“. It was now or never.

I asked her how much she was into games and it turned out, this girl was just as much a gamer as me! We spent nearly an hour talking about games and she invited me to her house for the weekend. We talked about games almost everytime we were together. She wasn’t really into action games, but I got her hooked on God of War.

As we started hanging out more we became close friends; but I knew we were meant to be more than that. I wanted to ask her out, but well, there went my nerves again. It wasn’t until about a month of hanging out when the idea hit me that would give me the courage to ask her out.

I borrowed LittleBigPlanet and spent about an hour creating my own level. I invited her over the next day and told her to play a “super awesome level” I created. All sackboy had to do was walk from one end of the screen to the other. But it’s what was on the background that stood out. I put in big bold letters “Would you like to go out with me?” She couldn’t stop smiling and she finally said yes. According to her, it was the cutest thing she had ever seen.

Our first date went perfect. We actually found out we had a lot in common. We went to a park, then a restaurant, then played some good old-fashioned games on the PlayStation 3. We went out a few more times after that before officially becoming a couple.

Fast forward to present day, and we are still together, and yes we both still love PlayStation games. We both were so excited when they announced God of War: Ascension! I am in love with this girl, and she is in love with me. All this is thanks to PlayStation. Without that, I can honestly say I would have never met my soulmate. Maybe in 3 years, I plan on editing that level I created on LBP, but instead it will have to say, “Will you marry me?”

Thank you PlayStation. For everything.

  • This really deserves the spotlight. It just warmed my insides with so many good feelings. Trust me, you aren’t the first one to use video games to propose to someone. I think it’s best option to go if you guys are both gamers. Here’s hoping for bright future for you two!

  • Wow. A very interesting story about love. You are a very lucky guy. Hope your relationship goes well.

I hope I could share something like this right now, but it’s difficult. Just time will tell. If it goes well, I will share my own love story. No doubt about that. But like I said, it’s difficult and I don’t know what can happen. Time will tell.

  • I may be a girl gamer, but I’m still a sucker for the cute, corny, romantic stuff, and this takes the cake!

  • Hey, IMA_BEAST_AT_IT,

It’s JillyDad from Long Live Play a few weeks ago. When I started dating the woman that is now my wife, I pretty much had to hide the fact that I’m a gamer. (It’s been ten years, and I still can’t get her into games.)
Do you think that instead of registering your wedding gifts at a department store, you can register on the PSN?

    Great story, JillyDad.

  • @ Jilly

That’s when you bust out trivia games and the PS Move. Trivial Pursuit should work. Look on ebay for that one though as it isn’t sold in stores anymore. There’s also Buzz Quiz Tv, Buzz Quiz World, Scene It dice version and a psn sequel (though that’s not all of the trivia on psn). PS Move you have Flower, High Velocity Bowling, Sports Champs, Medieval Moves, Datura (soon) and plenty of others. Or maybe go with survival horror. If that won’t work then I would assume she’s just not into having a hobby and just keep enjoying it yourself. I had a very similar situation once, very much the same. I’d start her with Flower.

  • Great story, I’m a tad older as 40 is far too close now, but I met who is now my wife online playing games on a well known but old social/email site. Neither of us we’re looking for a relationship of any kind, but over the months we became friends, then met in good old Skegness, U.K lol (I am from the U.K and she is from the U.K but lived in California). I remember meeting her and my heart literally skipped a beat, literally!. I then met her in L.A and took a 2500mile road trip with her. Under a year later I was living in California and soon after got married. 8 years later still happy and in love. Only difference now is we play online on our PS3 :)

  • @IMA_BEAST_AT_IT

Awesome story. Is there anything LittleBigPlanet can’t do?

  • Dude congratulations! awesome story. Best of luck to both of you.

  • Awesome story. Little Big Planet is an awesome game!

  • This is why PS3 is better than XBOX 360.

  • IMA_BEAST_AT_IT

@24 I think you’re in the wrong post!!
@27 you should write that story into the contest and let everybody else read it, I would like to read more of it.
@28 LittleBigPlanet is like the PS3, “It Only Does Everything”

  • Lol the first sentence of the story I read it as he got his PS3 when he was 3. I was about to say… thats a damn smart kid!

  • Wow you’re lucky that your girlfriend love video games. And how you ask her to go out with you is simply original and geek ;)

Long live to you both and Playstation!

  • Dude great story

  • Well done. Well done. Here’s to a long loving life to both of you.

  • Great read, sir… great read. It makes me smile to read this. I wish nothing but the best to you guys and hope fortune smiles on your lives together. I have slowly turned my wife from thinking gaming is ridiculous lol… but we have two daughters and I am showing them the way. It would warm my heart to a great extent if they meet a young man in this way once they get to that age. Love this story. :)
