The Drop: Week of May 7th 2012 New Releases

Discover a new type of shooter with Starhawk and the new “Build and Battle” system, which lets you gain the tactical advantage by calling upon an arsenal of weapons, vehicles, and fortifications delivered from an orbiting drop ship. Starhawk arrives and dominates your PS3 this week.

In the world of Datura for PSN, you can expect the unexpected. This curious forest will have you on the edge of your seat as you explore your surroundings and try to figure out why and how you’ve ended up there. Also on PSN, Need for Speed: The Run and Saint’s Row: The Third arrive as full PS3 digital downloads. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Starhawk — In the far reaches of space, factions of humanity battle over a rare and dangerous resource known as Rift Energy. Colonies of humans called Rifters have been exploring the “Frontier” of planets, but find their way of life threatened by the Outcast, a ruthless species of humans who have mutated into psychotic monsters due to exposure to this very same Rift Energy. Caught in the middle is Emmett Graves, a hired gunslinger ostracized from society because of his own exposure to Rift Energy, leaving him partially mutated, but still able to retain his humanity. Graves is drawn back to his home settlement to face a mysterious outlaw and his war band of Outcast warriors.

Starhawk provides fast paced third-person shooter action set in this lawless frontier of space, allowing players to instantly alter the battlefield by calling down offensive and defensive structures in real-time from an orbiting drop ship, all while blasting away at enemies in the middle of huge single-player or multi-player firefights.

Datura (PlayStation Move/3D Support)– Datura is an experimental interactive project from Plastic, creators of Linger in Shadows. Discover an eerie, intriguing realm in this unique, interactive art experience where little is ever as it seems and mystery and surprise await your every move. Interact with your surroundings and attempt to answer three questions: why are you here? What are you supposed to do now? And is there a way out? Solve puzzles and discover hidden mysteries that will take you beyond the world as you know it.

Need for Speed: The Run (Full PS3 Game) — Adrenaline junkies and speed fiends will find themselves on the wrong side of the law when they race for their lives in Need for Speed: The Run. This game takes players on a heart-pounding cross-country race from San Francisco to New York. Players are lured into an underground world of illicit, high-stakes racing. The heat is on — and it isn’t just the fuzz who are after you. Entering the race is just the beginning as you blow across borders, weave through dense urban traffic, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds.

Saints Row: The Third (Full PS3 Game) — Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you. The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute.

  • Can we have Hermie Hopperhead and Rapid Reload as Import PS1 classics? Both were nice PS1 games that were published by Sony and never made it to the US.

  • Second!

  • And Dragon Warrior VII please

  • Rey any chance for a dlc bundle for the run at ps plus price like other ea games?

  • DATURA!!!!

I’ve been looking very forward to Datura! I love games like this! (And I was a huge fan of Linger in Shadows!)

And, finally, I have something else to look forward to after Datura; The Unfinished Swan! = )

I love having a never-ending line of games to look forward to!

    –> Heavy Rain –> Journey –> Datura –> Unfinished Swan –> ?

  • Ugh…not such a good drop this week. Might pick up Datura.

  • Do you know if Devil May Cry is coming to the PSN. I don’t want to buy the HD collection because I don’t want all the games.

If it’s not coming to PSN I still won’t buy the collection so it would smarter for Capcom to release it individually on the store.

  • I will definitely check Datura out provided there is a demo available. Other than that, nothing else really catches my eye. Not complaining because I’m still playing The Walking Dead Episode One and Legend of Dragoon from the last two weeks.

  • LMAO – post it a day late and still date it with yesterday’s date…

  • Datura seems the most interesting.

I wish I had more puzzle games for the Vita….

  • Errrrr Vita? Hello?

  • there no love for vita.

  • Datura looks interesting, and I guess i’ll pick up Starhawk.

  • Sony no offense.. But I’m starting to regret buying my playstation Vita especially The first edition bundle -_- …
There is hardly any support for the device, and it feels like it wasn’t worth the money :( …
I still can’t play all the psp games I’ve purchased in the psn in the past, and let alone any ps1 classics…
So what should I do? I hardly touch it anymore since I’ve already passed or tried out all the games that have been recently released… Please start supporting the psvita. Us owners need to feel like we have invested on A great device… Thank you for your time ^_^

  • OMG … Vita is super super super super super super NOT WORTH !!!! NEW GAMES FOR US pls …

  • Any word on psone classices for vita??? Or FFX HD for that matter?? How about Suikoden II as a psone classic or Jade Cocoon? Cheers

  • Please tell me the Spec Ops demo is multiplayer!

  • @11, the Vita does not make calls. ;D

@15, according to IGN, there’s a Chess title coming out this month along w/ Retro City Rampage. Resistance is also on que for a May release. The team at Zen Studios have been hinting at a Spring release for the new Pinball suite.

  • Please give us news on the Vita. We were promised it’s situation would not be the same as it was with PSP.
I heard that Ragnarok for Vita is coming this Summer!!

  • There’s a discount for Datura if you’re a + member! :D

  • @18 The PSVITA does make phone calls through Skype and if you buy skype credit you can make low cost calls to landline phones cell phones etc. i do it just cause i can >>> But as far as the drop well nevermind!

  • Metal gear acid , metal gear acid 2 for psp and vita please

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Starhawk got a 9 from IGN!

  • More psone classic. Tomba

  • darkersaintsfan

Need an HD update to NFL2K.

  • @10, yeah I’m not a huge fan of puzzle games like Bejeweled but I do like word puzzelers such as Bookworm or Scrabble. I’m surprised EA hasn’t pushed Gameloft to port their most recent sequels to the Vita.

@19, I don’t think it’s possible that the Vita will have a similar product life as the PSP (which sold well, despite its weak software support from Western devs), because the Vita will have Call of Duty, Bioshock, & probably support from other major franchises. The list of Apps will grow slowly until that Sony Suite for their cell phones comes out of beta for the Vita.

I havn’t tried the Ragnarok series yet but I hear it’s a play off of the Monster Hunter titles & in of its own, quite popular.

  • @21, yeah I know it can make video calls. :D

  • How much will Datura be priced? I’ll be picking it up regardless, but I would like to know. Thanks! :)

  • ATTENTION PS VITA OWNERS:

I’ve learned over the years that Sony is not good at delivering all promised features/games upon a new system release. That is the reason i chose not to get a PS Vita right from the start.

Also from the looks of it i would NOT be surprised if at E3 they announce a price cut, because regardless what Sony says the PS Vita is NOT selling well at all.

I really do feel bad for you guys who bought the Vita at its release. I do want the Vita to succeed but right now it needs a lot of help.

  • MP_is_for_Chumps

    Too many beers huh, Rey?

….well i just hope she was worth it ;)

  • @29, ATTENTION NON-VITA OWNERS:

Some aren’t but I’m vastly enjoying my Vita. PLEASE don’t feel sorry for me. If you must, send me some cookies because they taste great w/ chocolate milk.

There will not be a price drop- not for another 1 1/2 – 2 years. But you may enjoy some nice PS3/Vita announcements this E3.

    @28, $7.99 for + members!

  • @Vita Owners
This is the Drop, not the tuesday update which means not all software will be listed here. This is just software they know about that is releasing. This is also the first year of the PSV’s life cycle, releases are going to be few and far between. If you look at the release calendar or run over to Wikipedia you’ll see the Vita has many titles coming. There are releases every month this year including three this month (Resistance, Silent Hill, and Mortal Kombat) and none this week. If the internet is to believed there are no releases from July to August with a flood of TBA’s coming after E3 (June 5-7 this year I think). As a PSP Day One Early adopter I can tell you already that Vita Owners have it great. I wish they had this much software and features available when I got the PSP. So Relax.

Also there maybe downloads available tomorrow, apps, games, mini’s, who knows. Sony likes to ride the wire up to the update.

    @29
Sony has delivered on the Vita.

I wouldn’t be surprised at a price drop announcement, but Sony has a bad habbit of not biting the bullet in such situations. Exhibits A and B, the PS3 and PSP.

  • Is there a chance to get StarHawk day one on PSN Rey? Like Infamous 2 perhaps? We hardly get any games where I currently live.

  • @1 through 3

You know… I was playing Raystorm on my ps3 this weekend and thought ” why hasn’t this been released on psn”? Yes, Hermie Hopperhead and Rapid Reload imports would be great additions. I’d like to see Gradius Gaiden as a japanese import as well. Since we got Legend of Dragoon last week, maybe we can hope to see something is rare as Suikoden II. I own Dragon Quest VII but would download it again so that I could play it on psp as well.

  • We need some Kingdom Hearts. I don’t care whether it’s in a collection like Devil May Cry or purchased on PSN. I need to start playing the games again, and can’t play them on a PS3. I don’t want to spend money I don’t have on a PS2 for 1 to 3 games.

  • I really wish that we would see more consistency from all of you at PSN. The Drop is always posted on Sunday, and since it was not, I was even wondering whether there would be an update this week. Also, the different times on Tuesday drives me crazy. I remember the store not updating until like after 10pm or so PST, or even around 1pm PST. Not to mention, this drop, you guys lied about the posting date…

  • Fell asleeph, eh Rey? JK.

  • I just want to jump on the VITA LOVE aswell (Just too many complaining), ok, surely I was hoping for more software released faster for it, but I do not regret one secound for buying it at day of release, It have been giving me much fun, and still does.
I’m also not belong those for missing ps1 and some psp support, as I bought it becouse I would like to play new games on it!, not old…. But I understand for some this is important, and hopefully sony will pleace you soon enough!… Anyway, waiting for a price drop?, It’s already dropped some pounds at Amazon.co.uk atleast, Not checked out at Amazon.com thought…

  • Continued… :
But I’m not crying becouse of that, It’s worth every penny, and waiting long time for a small price drop is just wasted time, it’s not likely they will give it away almost free is it? :)
I’m definetly sure my VITA will give me much love, as I can now bring it with me on boring family meetings, and alike, and play my Vita there aswell :), Not a single boring minute anymore, for me other portables was not a question, as they cant deliver as good gaming experiences at all (and yes, my kids have some stuipid Nintendo handhelds, but I’ve never enjoyed them thought….) Now they both want a Vita insted Aswell :), wich I probably will give them soon enough for some birthday or christmas present!, So keep On SONY, it’s good now, But I’m sure it will be over the top soon enough, and some you will sadly never pleace, as they will always complain for everything, thats life….

  • so you didnt post this until may 7th but the date says u posted the 6th hmm dont put it past sony to lie to everyone time after time

  • Starhawk is all I need. Sony should really be advertising this game more. The beta was amazing and I hope the full game sells well. My clan and I will be online tomorrow so if anyone is interested check us out at JoinDSA.com.

See you on the new frontier!

  • Eh no vita content oh well, still having loads of fun with wipeout-2048, rayman orgins, mutant blobs, and sometime this week mortal kombat. Man I do not know why you guys are saying there is no content for the vita, unless you bought every game on release and got bored the second week, unlike me who bought only one game in march, and two in april. Still this months releases are going to be insane.

I really would like to expect a firmware update this week sony, you said you were improving the browser back in february, saying skype is coming soon and browser improvements.

  • @ mJ
A price drop on the Vita? Amazon just had it bundled with 4gb and Mortal Kombat. If you buy stuff on sale or during special sales like that. Then you need to keep an eye out everyday basically. I’m not looking to get a Vita just yet. exclusive games are higher on my list. All I would buy for the Vita at the moment would be Uncharted.

  • thanks for the info, but are we ever going to see the vita get PS1, PS2 game support??
and as i always ask bring Xenosag1,2 and 3 to psn please i would happily pay 19.99 for each game and thats no joke.

  • I feel the PSVita was worth buying and very pleased with it. I think it’s sort of funny how several are complaining when the PSP came out the same thing happened. There for awhile it seemed more cases, speakers and cradles where released than actual games. Give it some time this is the best handheld system Sony has made. Someone nailed it E-3 is right around the corner we will get more content. Don’t get me wrong I understand and would love to see more content, games and apps. However, It’s not like there is not some great games and apps. We all want PSone support mad more PSPclassic games to be released. There is no reason for Sony to drop the price as the Vita is selling it’s not sitting on the shelves. Maybe I am okay with the content cause I been through it with the PS2, PS3, PSP and now the Vita. Give the developers a break every weak there are post after post saying where is the Vita love.

  • Enjoying my Vita very much so. Yes it would be great if games were releasing a little more often but it could be worse. coming soon- SH book of memories 5/22, Resistance 5/29, Metal Gear hd collection 6/12, Gravity rush 6/12, Lego Batman 2 6/19, Little Big Planet 6/26, and Madden 13 8/28. It seems Sony is pacing itself right now with the Vita. Not sure what July will bring but the end of this month(May) through June will be busy.

  • @ 47, exactly. VITA has already showcased games from my favorite series – including Ninja Gaiden, Dynasty Warriors, WipEout, Uncharted, Mortal Kombat, UMvC3, and MotorStorm. Unit 13 is badass as well (love Zipper, RIP). I’m having fun playing all 8 games, and I can’t wait for the rest to come in the next month (Silent Hill, Resistance, MGS HD, LBP, etc.) Gravity Rush looks sexy too.

The question I have for everyone is this: why the hell did you buy a portable handheld for games that are over a decade old and played out? Maybe it’s just me. I have a PSOne w/ LCD, PS2 slim, PS3 slim, PSPGO, and a VITA with all the popular titles…

  • @24 I agree! I would LOVE to see TOMBA as a PS1 download. I love that pink haired guy!

  • lmao
