The Drop: Week of May 7th 2012 New Releases

Rey Gutierrez's Avatar + Posted by Rey Gutierrez on May 06, 2012 // Senior Social Media Specialist

Discover a new type of shooter with Starhawk and the new “Build and Battle” system, which lets you gain the tactical advantage by calling upon an arsenal of weapons, vehicles, and fortifications delivered from an orbiting drop ship. Starhawk arrives and dominates your PS3 this week.

In the world of Datura for PSN, you can expect the unexpected. This curious forest will have you on the edge of your seat as you explore your surroundings and try to figure out why and how you’ve ended up there. Also on PSN, Need for Speed: The Run and Saint’s Row: The Third arrive as full PS3 digital downloads. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Starhawk – In the far reaches of space, factions of humanity battle over a rare and dangerous resource known as Rift Energy. Colonies of humans called Rifters have been exploring the “Frontier” of planets, but find their way of life threatened by the Outcast, a ruthless species of humans who have mutated into psychotic monsters due to exposure to this very same Rift Energy. Caught in the middle is Emmett Graves, a hired gunslinger ostracized from society because of his own exposure to Rift Energy, leaving him partially mutated, but still able to retain his humanity. Graves is drawn back to his home settlement to face a mysterious outlaw and his war band of Outcast warriors.

Starhawk provides fast paced third-person shooter action set in this lawless frontier of space, allowing players to instantly alter the battlefield by calling down offensive and defensive structures in real-time from an orbiting drop ship, all while blasting away at enemies in the middle of huge single-player or multi-player firefights.

PlayStation Network

Datura (PlayStation Move/3D Support)– Datura is an experimental interactive project from Plastic, creators of Linger in Shadows. Discover an eerie, intriguing realm in this unique, interactive art experience where little is ever as it seems and mystery and surprise await your every move. Interact with your surroundings and attempt to answer three questions: why are you here? What are you supposed to do now? And is there a way out? Solve puzzles and discover hidden mysteries that will take you beyond the world as you know it.

Need for Speed: The Run (Full PS3 Game) – Adrenaline junkies and speed fiends will find themselves on the wrong side of the law when they race for their lives in Need for Speed: The Run. This game takes players on a heart-pounding cross-country race from San Francisco to New York. Players are lured into an underground world of illicit, high-stakes racing. The heat is on — and it isn’t just the fuzz who are after you. Entering the race is just the beginning as you blow across borders, weave through dense urban traffic, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds.

Saints Row: The Third (Full PS3 Game) – Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you. The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute.

@24 Tomba 1 and 2 are amazing!!!!!

Hey Sony, can you please ask capcom to launch Mega Man X Collection for ps2 classics? It’s time to wake up X from his eternal sleep, since Maverick Hunter X we didn’t see anyone talking about X and his future. If capcom doesn’t want to launch a new game about Mega Man X, thats fine, then please lauch the ps2 classic!!

Mega Man X Collection
Mega Man X 7
Mega Man X 8
Mega Man X Command Mission

:)

Looking like a mediocre week, hopefully the actual update can prove more substantial.

Any word on when “Monster World IV” will be coming to PSN? It’s out this week on the Wii, and will be coming to the 360 somewhat soonish.

@Alucard-XII
Wow, a Hermie Hopperhead fan. Thumbs up in your direction sir.

I honestly dont get how some people are ok with Sony and their neglection with the Vita. We know not every update cane have one, but if thats the case whats so hard with getting out psp titles? they even said they wouldnt stop releasing Psp titles, but i honestly cannot remember the last psp title (a good one) came out. What about Crisis Core, or Kingdom Hearts? all big hits, and obviously will bring in big bucks, but both Square and Sony doesnt want to release them.

Anyway for this drop its lackluster. i hope more is coming tomorrow, whether its for vita/psp/ps1 i hope something at least comes for us. these update seems like its only catering towards ps3 users only and at least for me its not fair. this is the playstation blog, not the ps3 blog so stop only catering to them only. its just the same for PS+

Man… if i can’t get new more games a good strategy would be releasing psp games. Psvita could have a much bigger catague if sony release all psp games. Even miyamoto said that we need more games. Psp games would give sony more time to work with the new games, not only ports.

I was wondering about the Wonder Boy collection and other Sega Ages Online titles myself. I hope Sega doesn’t miss on releasing these in the US.

STOP putting out ps mini’s when they are not even worthwhile games i woulndt even download them if they were free thats how terrible they are… and lastly put up more ps3 games and make more original psn games…

All I feel like my Vita is missing is the ability to play PS1 games. 2 and a half months into the systems life I own over 10 games. That feels like a win to me. Especially when Resistance is right around the corner. Especially when I compare it to another one of my “other” largely unused handhelds that has been out for over a year, that I only own a handful of games for.

But, yeah, the ability to play PS1 games… it’s past due.

I love my PSVita and I bought it knowing what games were coming at launch, and how many interested me (a lot) and the upcoming list for the coming early months of the live of the device.

Be smarter next time you buy something. So that people who make smart purchases for them, don’t have to hear you whine about making a bad purchases for you.

All the info is online, you should have been aware of what was coming early on with the PSVita. If you weren’t happy with it, then that’s your fault for not looking it up.

+ darksithantwan A lot of the ps1 and ps2 games have a better storyline and gameplay then most out today.Graphics are old but look as good as the minis games that all are buying now.There good enough to make people wont to play them over 10 years later.You wont see a lot of that in 10 years from now.
