PlayStation Store Update

Grace Chen's Avatar + Posted by Grace Chen on May 22, 2012 // Sr. Director, PlayStation Store

Hi Everyone -
There’s much to talk about in this week’s PlayStation Store update, including new PS3 Full Game downloads, an amazing new PS Vita title that takes advantage of the system’s AR (Augmented Reality) capabilities, brand-new PSN games and the return of some fan-favorite PlayStation classics.

We’re happy to join the Sorcery celebration this week with the title being available to download on the PlayStation Store. In this PS3 exclusive, take control of a young sorcerer’s apprentice and master the arcane arts to fight back the foul creatures that inhabit this magical realm. Sorcery puts the power in the players’ hands with PlayStation Move by allowing you to conjure and command powerful magic as you brave the dark world of the Faerie Kingdoms. Check out all of the great coverage for Sorcery if you crave more info, then head to the PlayStation Store to download it today.

In other PS3 Full Game news, fighting game aficionados will be happy to see Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition available on the PlayStation Store. This upgraded version of the initial SFIV release features new characters, new environments, and a few additions to the online experience that make for a more complete package. If you never picked it up on disc, you can now download a copy from the PlayStation Store.

PS Vita gamers will want to check out Table Top Tanks: an all-new explosive Augmented Reality game. Using the device’s rear camera, this game builds the battlefield based on where you’re pointing your Vita (preferably on a table top). Control nimble yet deadly tanks through a variety of single player challenges, or join three of your friends in multiplayer matches across a number of game types.

Fans of the classic show Doctor Who will be thrilled to see Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock arriving today. In Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock, players take on the role of the Doctor and River Song as they travel across space and time in an effort to save Earth by journeying to the Eternity Clock, a planet that is a record of everything that has (or will ever happen) in all of creation.

For fans of the classics, there’s plenty of ground to tread here, including SEGA’s hefty dose of nostalgic releases like Alex Kidd Miracle World, Super Hang-On, and The Revenge of Shinobi. More classics including the PS One Classic Alone in The Dark: The New Nightmare, as well as PS2 Classics like Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain and Need for Speed: Most Wanted are dropping today as well (please note that Alone in the Dark PS one Classic is only playable on PS3.

The PSN-exclusive masterpiece Journey now has a demo available to download. If you haven’t taken the dive on this instant classic, head to the PlayStation Store to see what you’ve been missing. To commemorate the release of this demo, we’re also having a sale on thatgamecompany’s other hits flOw and Flower, along with other special content from thatgamecompany like themes, avatars, soundtracks and more. The sale is on for all of PSN, but PlayStation Plus members get an additional discount

In other PlayStation Plus news, in addition to the aforementioned discounts, you’ll also find the hit racing title ModNation Racers now sporting a generous Plus-only price of $15, so if you haven’t purchased your membership yet then now is a great time!

Keep a look out for other great content on the PlayStation Store this week including new Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack avatars, the Reality Fighters Ghostbusters Add-On, and more. Nothing free in Plus this week that is disappointing. I might try out the demo for Journey I just don’t want to end up liking the game and buying it and than soon we get it free through plus.

I’ll be picking up Table Top Tanks, and looking forward to Pure Chess next week!

Let’s get some avatars for Sorcery and Resistance: Burning Skies. Easy way to promote from within.

Can someone tell the people that make Tactics Ogre that I’d really like a new game for the Vita? I’m guessing I’m not alone in this.

I really, REALLY, wish Sony would make trophies from the Full Game Trials optional for players. There are so many trials I would love to try, but I don’t want a handful of easy trophies tied to my trophies list forever if I decide I don’t want the trial. I’ve been a PS+ subscriber for nearly two years now and I’ve avoided trials this whole time. If I hadn’t, I’d probably have my list filled with an extra 20 or 30 games I have no interest in ever buying or playing again.

I’d settle for just being able to playing the trial on a different profile, but I can’t even do that. Let us delete them or choose to block them from unlocking or something. I don’t want to try something only to have it permanently attached to my trophy list. It defeats the whole point of a trial.

Wow was so hoping a week later you would fix the price for Prototype 2 and make it 40 like all disk ones are, why would anyone pay 60 to download it with radnet when they can get the same thing w/radnet for only 40 but on disk?

Do you guys have any plans to fix the price? if not looks like I have to get the game from Gamestop or Best Buy, or Amazon

Why are PSN users getting ripped off on the pricing for for the new Sega releases? I want all six, but I have to pay $30 total for them off PSN, while they’re being offered on XBLA tomorrow as two bundles for 800 points ($10) each or about $20 total.

Oh yes, this has been a good time, these past couple weeks (though not for my wallet).

Last week we had that PixelJunk sale, so I grabbed all the $1 titles (and the only PSP title, to round things out…and because PJ Monsters Encore wasn’t on sale, too). On top of that, the Ubisoft sale saw me repurchasing my recently (and unintentionally) refunded Assassin’s Creed II and add-ons (apparently double-dipping on Segment 13), and splurging on Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and add-on/s (too bad it doesn’t come with all the ancillary goodies, like the PC’s Digital Deluxe does).

And now this thatgamecompany sale. Snapped Journey up when it premiered (and had quite an experience on a whim after a night at work), and had previously played flOw (from my friend) and through Flower (from my sister), so it’s nice to have them on my account at last (along with, again, the singular PSP title). With the Flower soundtrack and all this, all that’s left are a gaggle of Flower avatars and the flOw soundtrack.

Otherwise, cool to see some old Sega titles up. The Monster World games call to me… Unfortunately, ModNation Racers doesn’t, but that’s ’cause I have the disc version from my first PS3, back on Black Friday 2010.

+ TJF588 on May 22nd, 2012 at 1:47 pm said:

@58 – They’re not tied to your account, only your profile on the system itself. I’ve recently set up another PS3 for myself, and of the two games I had trophies from their Full Game Trials, I popped in a disc of Borderlands to have it show on my PSN ID, and the ones from God of War: Chains of Olympus are nowhere to be found (still have my profile on the other PS3, just so I can get them bound eventually).

Long & short: Only you’re seeingthem, and only on the machine you played the Full Game Trial/s on.

@73, the platform is different. I wish we can just take the file & drop it into any device (ipod, ipad, andriod, vita, etc.) & it’ll run. The answer is it’s the difficulty in the coding & the conversion process for PSP/mini/PS 1 titles to the Vita.

@82, I really hope it’s that simple. Or maybe the emulator has issues? How can so many 1st party titles be missing? That doesn’t make sense as Sony has complete control over its IPs. It’s a new platform, it’s likely the porting process is awfully time-consuming.

Ok, so I tried to get in some time on Table Top Tanks during my lunch break at work today. After a system update (which was probably my bad, I should have done that sooner), and a title update (on launch day for a digital title… really?), I was forced to sit through an un-skippable opening movie.
Please Sony, in the future, DON’T put un-skippable opening movies on Vita titles. Portable systems usually mean people have a restricted amount of time to play with, and having to sit there, not playing while I watch this little movie takes up valuable gaming-time. I even checked to see if maybe I could skip it the second time I launched the game, to no avail. So now every time I launch Table Top Tanks, I’ll have to sit through that. Again and again. Great.
I managed to get in 5 minutes of actually playing the game, out of the 40 minutes I originally had to play with. That’s a very bad ratio.

has anybody had a mini or psp game downloaded to their ps3 before it was “compatible” with vita and then transferred it over once it was officially compatible. There has not been a firmware update since a lot of games have become compatible. That would tell you that there has been no recoding and make me wonder why they are not releasing games.

If your Vita gives you an Error code when transferring just restart the Vita. That’s what mine did and a restart fixed it immediately.

I’m wondering why Sega, who is in need of money, didn’t take advantage of putting their older classics on the Vita. They will be losing money from customers like me, who don’t buy because I would rather play an older classic on my beautiful handheld.

@32 You’ve had all week to take advantage of the Ubisoft sale.

Pretty quiet week for me. Great to see a tgc sale but I already own everything those guys have ever released.

Keep those PS2 Classics coming. How about PS+ discounts for the PS2 games?

While I have zero interest in Sorcery, I hope Sony continues to have the new releases on PSN same day as the retail stores. I rather purchase the digital copy on PSN.

A weak update in my view, especially for the Plus side of things, oh well, more money to spend on other things.

@96,
Look at all the free stuff given to Plus users in the past month! Surely, you can’t expect free stuff every week.

I say let’s discount “A Space Shooter for Two Bucks” when it’s available on the Vita, considering it’s “A Space Shooter for Free” on Google Chrome. Great game, by the way.
