YouTube for PS Vita

Hi everyone! PS Vita was developed with the idea of creating and delivering compelling content for gamers. With the recent announcements of applications such as nico nico, Treasure Park, Wake-up Club, and Skype, we’re continuing to build out PS Vita’s portfolio of applications. Today, we’re very excited to announce the latest application addition to PS Vita – YouTube!

Coming at the end of June, YouTube will be available as a free downloadable application for PS Vita via the PS Vita Store. With the YouTube application on PS Vita, you can watch millions of YouTube videos on the stunning 5” OLED screen, from comedy to gaming tips to today’s viral trends. The YouTube application features many of the functions you’re already familiar with – you can easily search for videos, choose favorites and make comments, and your personal YouTube account is available right on your PS Vita.

As we move further into 2012, we look forward to introducing you to more unique, social and immersive experiences only available on PS Vita. How will you use YouTube on PS Vita?

But Sony, this doesn’t mean we don’t want html5 or flash. I would love to watch videos on my browser. Animes and TV shows from the network websites would be nice to watch on my vita. But this will do for now. and for a while.

Really happy about this.
Not that I’ll be using it. It’s just awesome news because now I won’t have to read all those damn ‘Please release a YouTube app for Vita’ posts on every single Playstation forum on the internet. :)

What about us PS3 users who have been asking since day 1? The Internet browser on PS3 sucks too! My Android has a better browser…

Hate to be the downer, but I can play YouTube on every mobile device I have. What I can’t play on those devices are ps1 classics. Is there a practical explanation as to why we still can’t access our ps1 libraries on our vitas?

Would of prefer Hulu Plus on the Vita. Can that be the next launch please? And can u make it that we get to use 3G for all the apps like Netflix instead of only wifi? Because i really feel like i should of brought the wifi Vita cause i feel like its pointless if u cant use 3G on the good apps like Netflix and hopefully soon on hulu plus. Can you please try to make this happen. I LOVE YOU SONY MAKE THIS HAPPEN PLEASE.

I kinda gotta agree with a few people that this is something, like flash support/html5 and the like that should have already been included with the browser. Apps for social networking such as tumblr and instagram would be ideal for vita, but youtube functionality is something that, by now amongst mobile devices, is kinda a given to be included with a browser.

I’m usually very supportive of Sony, in fact, I always am, but stuff like this makes me think of how in a lot of ways the Vita is truly amazing and a step forward in most ways, but on certain key details, like the gui and how it completely LACKS organizational consolidating ie the ability to make folders for games so I don’t have all the individual buttons all over the place, and things like this, which simply seems like a lazy workaround, a step back in severe inefficiency. Sony takes time though, it irons out the kinks. Look at how clunky the PS3 was before. no in game xmb, no wmv support, no flash at the VERY beginning. I’ll remain faithful and patient because I know it always becomes a good investment in the long run. I hope others can do the same.

Youtube is great, but please make a better browser that supports html5 and flash. I spent alot more time watching anime that cant be found on youtube. Thanks for this anyway. More power!

Looking forward to it. Seriously though why can’t I have more than 100 icons on my vita?

+ Syrlis on June 1st, 2012 at 6:35 am said:

When is this coming to the ps3? I don’t like using the browser, it puts everything at 240p and that’s very sucky (my tivo does the same thing). Just once id like a device connected to my tv that puts out 1080p video from youtube, is that too much to ask?

Only one question I have will we be able to use this app over 3G? Or will we have to have wifi access like the Netflix app requires?

Nice now we just need HTML5 for the browser and it’s all good.

+ luvtoseek on June 1st, 2012 at 11:02 am said:

@104, practical? You guessed it. It’s time-consuming & expensive. Also, Sony’s likely going to intro a large collection of PS1 titles for the Vita & not just a few.

@107, sorting, the option to create & remove folders, to edit file names, etc. I hope Don & his team considers this.

I highly doubt Flash will ever come. It requires updates almost on a monthly basis. & what is the name of Sony’s browser? Adobe will need to support it, which they have no incentive to do.

This is awesome for you who live in those “Youtube serviced countries” but this app wont be available in Finland, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Bulgary etc.

+ neoprime33 on June 1st, 2012 at 11:59 am said:

Awesome! Thanks! Other APP suggestions for #PSVita: RSS Reader, an eReader (@Sony or @NookBN) and @Comixology.

+ morningdrive on June 1st, 2012 at 12:20 pm said:

wow people are still complaining about cross game chat?

if you really wanna talk to a friend while you’re playing another game just use skype or call them on the phone!

+ iiONyKz-_MaQuIrO on June 1st, 2012 at 12:25 pm said:

Now, an update with the improvement at the browser as promised, (so it can be faster), YouTube linked in every video on the Web Browser and to end a copy and paste function. please! ;) oh and to make the Ps vita perfect, with all the games announced and the one’s coming at this E3 event(exited :@) plus apps, a battery replacement of atleast 27000 mh is all we need upon next year!

Great Job SONY and think about it! Love!
Excuse my English!

Hush about Flash.

Lord… tired about people expecting flash support in the browser when the company that owns it no longer supports mobile flash in browsers.

People are so ignorant. I don’t even know much about companies like Adobe, yet I found this out ages ago. And since you guys clearly care so much about it, you’d think you’d have found that out too.

Now all we need is a Perfectly working browser!
I’m really looking forward to this!
I know Youtube is a separate thing, but still!
