Virtual E3 PlayStation Booth vs Reality + Weekly Update

This past week the PlayStation Digital Platforms Community team attended E3 down in Los Angeles and hung out with PlayStation community members from around the world. This was also this third year we built out a virtual E3 booth in PlayStation Home, literally matching schematics as closely as possible to the real deal, and bringing the community the sort of experiences you would have if you were lucky enough to get entrance to the real expo.

The best part about the virtual E3 booth—no lines! Some games and experiences at the real E3 require waiting quite a while to get in.

We would like to share some pics from the real PlayStation E3 booth, so you can take a further glimpse into the excitement that is E3. Due to popular demand, we are extending the virtual E3 booth one more week. So if you didn’t get a chance to check it out, you have a little more time. But once it’s gone, it’s gone for the year.

We bumped into our buddy, writer and director of Platinum’d, Brandon Winfrey.

Paul_BrooklynDecker
Teammate Paul Sullivan got to meet superbabe, er… supermodel Brooklyn Decker who visited us in the PSN area.

Aside from all the excitement, to attend E3 is to feel the beating heart of the games industry. There is a camaraderie that instantly forms .. It feels like a family reunion! Everyone in the games industry comes together and works hard (during the day) and plays hard (at night). There are many special events, dinners and parties, and it’s clear that everyone’s hard work is for one purpose: exists to bring joy and happiness to gamers around the world. In that way, we get to feel as if we are working together to make the world a more fun place. Witnessing all this, I am very proud to work for PlayStation, and to have an opportunity to connect gamers to one another and the products that they love.

Enough gushy insider gossip—you want to know what’s coming this week in Home!

As mentioned above, due to popular demand, the virtual E3 booth will be extended one more week, so if you haven’t run through all Christina Lee’s quests, visited all the kiosks and collected all your rewards, do so quickly. If you haven’t picked up your limited edition Booth Babe and Beefcake outfits from Lockwood, gotten your free Warrior Starter Pack from playing the Mercia: Fractured Realms Demo in the virtual E3 booth or picked up your solid gold Mechjet, a golden Sodium Companion and Kiburi the White Lion do so ASAP. When the virtual E3 booth goes away this year, so do these limited-time exclusives.

  • I wanna go to the real E3 now. xD

  • Maybe one of these days..

  • Was an absolute pleasure meeting you all at E3 this year :) E3 and the PlayStation booth were spectacular.

    • Yes, and nice to finally meet you Cubes! Way to go representing the Home community from the other side of the pond on behalf of AlphaZone4.com. I’m so glad you liked it and had a fun time.

  • Any release dates for any of the games like Minibots, No Man’s Land, or Home Tycoon? All I hear is coming soon from E3 booth and such and was wondering when we might expect some of these exciting games.

    • All are coming in the very, very, very near future. How’s that for an answer? Keep eyes peeled on the PS Blog for details—this is where you’ll hear it first.

I will share a little bit more though on No Man’s Land. The closed private beta of No Man’s Land went spectacularly well. The beta testers almost unanimously loved it, no major bugs were found and the community load test went flawlessly. The developer, VEEMEE, is hard at work polishing the final version so everyone will enjoy it soon.

  • This was fun stuff! Thanks for all of this, Sony!

  • Can someone nudge Billabong and let them know enough with just mens clothes lately! :)

And it’s great to see that the Cathedral will be a club. What a pity to have only 12 users in a space that size. Can we get an idea of pricing?

    • Correction:
The Konami Gothic Cathedral is going to only be available as a personal space. I apologize for the mistake. That said, if there’s enough community feedback wanting a clubhouse version, maybe Konami will consider making it.
Here’s a direct link go the Home Suggestions forum: http://us.playstation.com/home-suggestions

  • what would be cool is getting some baseball team jersey’s and hats in home.

  • And how much will the Cathedral be

    • The price is not set quite yet, but it will be available individually as well as bundled with the new furniture collection.

    • UPDATE:

Gothic Cathedral Personal Space — $7.99
Gothic Cathedral And Gothic Furniture Bundle — $9.99
      Gothic Furniture Bundle — $3.99

      There you go. ;-)

  • THANK YOU for releasing the Cathedral this week, and as both apt and club form!

But I find the lack of the “advanced” fossil tools disturbing. The new tools EU got last week, we need here ASAP as well as the third rarity tag.

  • AND the coconut crab bundle

  • When will they be releasing Billabong items for females? I love their work!

    • Not this week, but the content releases depend on the owner of the IP. We always recommend to them to provide an even offering for both genders, but it’s always up to them.

  • I hope the Cathdral has a fair pirce I love that place >.<

  • Can you clarify the x7 preview content? We have Raver stuff in preview from Thursdays update. Also, is the breakdancer something else or the same item? There was some confusion on the forums over the weekend about that.

    • Sure thing. This week’s early-access items is a second batch of the Raver and Breakdancer stuff—it’s brand new, but an expansion of the popular items previously released. Check them out on Wednesday to see for yourself.

  • win is the gothic place coming out

  • any chance grandzella will bring more rewards like the glowing swords to edo and bring the other games they have like monster fishing and downtown neon. i’m a big fan of theirs and the fosil musium or whatever it is called.

  • Hypnotic_Inertia

Like, Gojin, I wish for a fair price on the cathedral. It would also be nice if the Home Team could add Hear It Wow’s suggestions to the nightclub. Without those, the private and club space feels hollow, no matter how nice it is.

  • 1 other thing about club X7 where was the free prize at. i really having fun on PSH we need better music there.

    • Talk to the head bartender in x7 to find all the early access, the freebies and the exclusive bundles.

  • Very cool, thanks for sharing a couple pictures from E3 2012, sounds like a blast.

  • Sorry but if cathedral isn’t a clubhouse I’m not buying it. Apts are obsolete and annoying. I will be posting on the suggestion thread as well, KONAMI take a hint and get with 2012!

  • Will there by any chance see any Granzella items returned that were removed from before? I like some of those avatar clothing items, shame I can’t get them anymore. Nice to see the E3 booth stay up for another week, I mostly am enjoying it due to getting an opportunity to meet other Home users from other regions, made a few friends already!

  • You said its true gamer heaven in your fisrt reply…….. That is until they bring out wonderbook……………….

The E3 boths are cool in home, but I don’t have countless hours to try and unlock stuff on some of those lists. Also It would be cool to be able to play a demo that is from the show too. Any chance of a avatar update so we can use our real face like some EA games?

    • Agreed—Wonderbook might be my personal favorite among exciting things to come. It was a true surprise, and one that should have an unending set of books to collect, and enjoy.

Like the real E3, it takes time to fully enjoy it all, but the virtual is much faster than the real one for sure. As for avatar functionality that will use real faces, there’s nothing in the works going on in that direction. Demos though might be a possibility. Maybe next year!

  • WHOOT! Awesome sauce I’m happy about that price for the Cathedral! Thank you Cade ^.^

  • Thanks again for doing the virtual E3 booth. I enjoyed it much more this year. The addition of quests and more rewards kept me involved and exploring more than any previous year. Thanks for providing a little glimpse into the glory that is E3 for those of us not fortunate enough to go. Keep up the work.

  • Playable demos next year would be awesome !

  • Oh man, Cade! If the E3 booth gets working E3 demos, imagine how even more amazing E3 in Home would be? Many more people would come to the virtual booth as well! Loved E3 this year though! THe rewards and the quests were much better than E3 2010 and 2011.

  • Thanks for the price check.

  • I completed all the E3 quests and got all the E3 rewards (sweeet) and I can’t wait for Sly Cooper thieves in time for the PS3 to come out. When this summer will Mercia: fractured realms be avalible in PS Home and any news from Aurora?

    • There’s no concrete date set yet for Mercia, but you can bet Lockwood is hard at work putting the finishing touches on it. nDreams always has new stuff in the works, so I expect news soon of their next addition or update.

  • Coooool, all the ladies can get ‘tarded up in Home.

  • Oh yeah, I’ll be getting the Cathedral space (most likely snatching it up with the killer furniture bundle). It takes me back to the days of going to The Castle in Ybor City, FL.

  • more trivia games please… and digital Christina Lee is awesome

  • Digital Christina Lee filled me with broiling rage, from the weak gestures to the awkward segues to, most infuriatingly, “Raiyu” and “Haduuken”.

Anyway, QUESTION FOR YOU, CADE: Which items at the E3 Commerce Point are exclusive?

I know the entire Lockwood category is (and, unduly pricey though it was, they are mine), and the Novus Prime category is “for now” (see: https://twitter.com/novusprime/status/210793662546853888), everything else I have not read anything direct. The question’s been posed to Codeglue on Twitter, but hasn’t been directly answered, though they linked to PS Home Gazette without offering correction, so http://pshomegazette.com/2012/06/07/codeglue-celebrates-the-2012-mayan-doomsday-prophecy-with-limited-edition-e3-items/ seems to confirm them.

Otherwise, I don’t see Billabong’s as being the sort of thing that warrants exclusivity, as opposed to premier, and there seems to be too much benefit for Columbia to keep the Worm Guy companion limited. Not as certain about the Murray companion, since the Bentley one is tied to the E3 spaces.

  • i got all the e3 prizes. i’m still freezing every time i press start to bring up the nav. ever since that last update i can’t go where i want or change wardrobe. i’m missing out. any suggestions on how to fix it? anyone?

  • Okay, completely unrelated question. I’m assuming that the free PS+ games do eventually ‘expire’ even if you keep your subscription current indefinitely (been that route with ‘bought’ songs requiring a license for playback that Rhapsody eventually lost the rights to). Will there be an auto-generated warning if/when this happens? Will it be at least 2-4 weeks in advance? :P

  • Really enjoyed the E3 event this year. Pretty sure I got everything,

  • I’ve been getting a lot of errors when entering just about any store. I’m interested in a lot of stuff but It doesn’t show the price. Very frustrating. I bought some things a few days ago. I keep re-entering the store / signing off and nothing’s happening. Really want to check out the Ritual costumes (didn’t know they had a dance!) and get me that judgement calander… (just in case!)

I just got back into Home as I always do each year for the amazing E3 gifts. But I had a lot of catching up to do with the new layout and everything! I’m loving it!

Just worried about those errors.. oh and I tried clearing my cache… ahhhh!

  • Oh wait. The PSN store has an error (probably until they update it >.<)

That's most likely the problem! Nevermind! I'm loving Home so far! Gonna get a few bundles on the actual store for cheap later on as well.

  • I went on it today and i took pics with the new assassins creed character and little big plant and it was awesome.NICE JOB PSN

  • Thank GOD! FINALLY TIGHTS WITH STOCKINGS!!!!! YES AAOOOLLL RIGHT!!!
