Gravity Rush Launches Today on PS Vita – Get the Inside Scoop on DLC

To help celebrate today’s U.S. launch of Gravity Rush for PlayStation Vita, I’m excited to share this new trailer which will give you a taste of what the game has in store for you:

Gravity Rush Launches Today on PS Vita – Get the Inside Scoop on DLC

Gravity Rush was based on the inspiration I received from the artwork I saw in a magazine when I was a teenager. When I joined the industry, I thought that someday I would want to create a game with a world setting as vivid as that piece of art.

It’s been awhile since Japanese videogames have carried the clout that they used to in our industry. When I began my career, I was striving to find a way to break through. I thought about making a game based on the top global marketing strategies, major genres that were popular at that time, and even based on a character that would be widely accepted in the Western market. However, none of those concepts produced the results I desired, which is when I realized I was trying to put the cart in front of the horse.

After that, my ideas began to gain more momentum. The Gravity Rush project started with the simple idea of ‘making something based on my original vision,’ a game that has a brand new and exciting mechanic, gorgeous visuals, a captivating setting, fascinating storyline, and lovable characters. The goal was to deliver a game that contained each of these aspects. If you think of it, that’s what most games are targeting, and it makes sense to go back to the basics.

During the production process, we faced a few challenges and there were times when the game was misunderstood. However, thanks to the potential of PlayStation Vita, we were able to create something completely unique to the market. The path we took was similar to the character Kat’s, where she started off unsure of herself, but slowly gained the trust of her peers and became accepted and admired.

We’ve been receiving a tremendous amount of feedback from players since the title was released in Japan. I was both surprised and overwhelmed by the amount of comments I received. Most of the feedback was positive, and one comment that really touched me was: “It’s been awhile since I enjoyed a game like this that is truly innovative, and I believe that only a Japanese developer could have created such a work of art.” I really feel that my vision fit what the players wanted to see, and that I have truly achieved what I was striving for. That comment almost brought me to tears. This assured me that our thought process wasn’t wrong. I feel a state of fulfillment, and I’m sincerely hoping that everyone who plays the game will have a similar opinion.

Gravity Rush Military DLC

With Gravity Rush launching today in the U.S., I wanted to not only take this opportunity to reflect on my experience creating the game, but look to the future and share that we have a great lineup of DLC on the way. First, I’m pleased to announce that if you purchase Gravity Rush for the first week on PSN for $35.99, you’ll also receive the Military DLC Pack for free (this promotion will run from 6/12 to 6/19).

Gravity Rush Spy DLC

In addition, on June 26th we’ll be releasing the Spy Pack. For just $3.99 you’ll receive a Spy Costume as well as two exciting new Side Missions and two Challenge Missions to unlock.

Gravity Rush Maid DLC

Then, on July 10th, you’ll be able to download the Maid Pack. Priced at $3.99, the Maid Pack offers a stylish Maid Costume and two additional unlockable Side Missions and Challenge Missions.

If you miss out on the Military Pack during launch week, you will also have the opportunity to purchase it starting on July 24th for $3.99.

I hope that you enjoy experiencing Gravity Rush and these three DLC packs as much as the team and I enjoyed creating them!

  • *Sigh* why can’t they just announce information for digital copies sooner. Announcing the information only on release date is kind of stupid, people who want to buy would already have preorder them from retailers.

  • And monchuuu states:

“Quick update. According to the ops team, the best case scenario is around 8pm PST tonight for today’s update. The team is working to ensure this is a rare scenario, but thanks for your patience. I’m trying to get my hands on Gravity Rush and MGS myself, and I know the wait isn’t making it easy.”

sigh… PSN US, the total disappointment.

  • @150 What is that in EST, like, 11pm? Or what?

  • 11pm, that’s correct

  • Update. Courtesy of gaf. PS bloggers are apparently not worthy of updates.

    Hey all,

Quick update. According to the ops team, the best case scenario is around 8pm PST tonight for today’s update. The team is working to ensure this is a rare scenario, but thanks for your patience. I’m trying to get my hands on Gravity Rush and MGS myself, and I know the wait isn’t making it easy.

Hysterical. Best case scenario? Thanks for our patience? Are these guys serious?

  • Beyond pathetic. There’s a reason Sony’s stock is at an all time low :P

  • cmt?

  • That ruined my night. I was hoping to download this shortly after getting off work at 5PM EST, but now they say it won’t be up until at least 11PM EST? Even with downloading and install it’d be ready by midnight and I’d be getting ready for bed by then. Sucks to have a “rare” occurrence on the launch of one of your biggest Vita titles.

  • Rare scenario my ass they pulled this garbage with ghost of sparta aswell

  • Well, its off to the stores, fed up with this nonsense. At least I’m on the west coast where its only a little after 6pm. Sony manages to screw up every single week. Last week, they screwed early RBS buyers of $4 and chalked it up to well, price drops happen. Before that, the pixel junk monsters on vita debacle. This company’s batting 1000.

  • sigh………its things like this that make it harder for me to defend the ps3 against my xbox owning buddies. and also makes it harder for me to resist the 360. its stores update at like 4am.

  • Suthernplayalist

I just logged in for the first time here to see what the heck is going on with the PSN update?

  • gah this izzz uhh nightmare !!!!!!!!!!!

  • update for the psn update: there is no update.

  • I’m convinced that Sony is trying to bury the Vita. Hardly any presence at E3, no word concerning compatibility rumors, no mention of rumored PS+ integration. The marketing team behind this device should be eating beans from cans beneath a bridge. They seem a bit out of their element.

  • Nice way to screw it up for people waiting to get Gravity Rush from PSN. PSN been around for like years and they still have problem updating it on time.

  • FAIL!

  • yeah, the harry potter book thing was given more time at e3 than vita. sony doesnt care about vita. why should i? im selling it.

  • update it alreadyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • Sony
    PRO-Crastination

  • They do make it hard for us to support Vita doesn’t it

  • Just like Sony to turn a post about possibly the best Vita game this year into a complete farce.

You would think, given Sony’s massive financial issues and troubled PSN history that they’d pull out all the stops to ensure that customers could get their hands on a product they’ve hyped up no end to consumers in good time. But no, we get the usual vague excuses and “thank you for your patience”.

On a more positive note, love the game and I hope people don’t punish the developer for Sony’s complete incompetence.

  • I can’t believe I still can’t buy this game from PSN Store. I should have stopped by Best Buy today to pick it up instead. It’s amazing that they don’t have a consistant process in updating thier store. Microsoft and Nintendo seem to update thier stores around the same time every week.

Sony makes it very hard for me to really get behind and support thier products. Very dissapointing.

  • Currently downloading the 1 GB Escape Plan patch… so something is coming through the pipeline, but just not the store update.

  • So how ’bout that Dreamcast?

  • two things

the moderators on this blog are pretty much a non factor
and sony digital always does this hype killing crap when a huge game is expected.

    if i run this business…

  • yeaaaaaaaa dreamcast!

  • dreamcast was amazing.

  • @163 I so much agree with you. There is not enough games on the vita for them to accept such a crappy launch. We, early buyers, have to be happy with 4 or 5 good games (to be optimistic), no infos and almost none of the functionnalities that were first promised. About the rare issue: of course it is rare! Because there is no f***in’ game on our expensive console. The issue is rare because new releases are! Come on Sony, do something, react. Show us the quality that’s been promised.

  • Yeah! I should pop in Samba De Amigo and shake the night away. Dreamcast was awesome!

  • I hope we get some discounts like EU customers, also noticed at walmart today that a bunch of vita games were at a 19.97 price point. Wipeout was one of em, I might pick that up but it be even better if their digital store reflected the retail market:P

  • I liked jetSet radio and MVC2!

  • At this rate, Sony is going to make a midnight release. Just a day late.

  • Suthernplayalist

@177 Well said. I hate to talk down on Sony because they have provided me with such great games. However, this is a very important game to them(and us) and as such, they should treat the release of this game as top priority. They really have dropped the ball on showing us that we should trust their download service versus going to a retail outlet. I’m not going to lie, this has really left a sour taste in my mouth about waiting to get a game on PSN versus retail.

  • If this is what happens when the Vita actually has 2 full games releasing on the same day I can’t imagine how late the store would update if the Vita was actually supported… 4AM?

    Gravity Rush Real Release Date
Retail: June 12th, but most stores will have it out on the 11th
Digital: June 12th, or June 13th… the 16th at the latest!

  • Jet Set was great! Played the Vita HD version at E3. It looked really nice. I hope they bundle the PS3 and Vita version together.

  • Its 10pm here and now i wanna play Jet set Radio, and Samba de Amigo

  • omgi remember jetset radio!!!!! but i dont want to! i want to make memories with gravity rush!

  • Hehehehe
It’s funny ‘cuz it’s called gravity RUSH
    and IT’S STILL NOT HERE.

  • Still nothing.

Also, Sony Europe announced heavy Vita games discounts on PSN starting tomorrow…nothing in the US of sorts. :-/

  • You’d figure Sony would want to promote PSN and show everyone how good it is.
And here I am, with my new Vita on my hands, at a date that was meant to be so especial to me as GR was THE game that made me consider buying the handheld. Yet, the game is not on the digital store and I am left only with disappointment, I have to wake up early and it is time to sleep already ):
Such inconsistency coming from such a big and important company.
Way to smash my hype guys, good job!

  • What the heck happened to sound shapes, on another note..

  • I just wish the Military DLC could just be included to all first batch copies of the game instead of pre-order only. I don’t want to get a digital copy of this game, just to get the DLC for free.

  • I can’t believe the patch for Escape Plan is just under 1GB. That makes the file size for the overall game about 2.4GB counting the previous patch. I ultimately deleted it. Great game, though. Now just to wait for Gravity Rush to be live on the store.

  • Got the game!! Awesome!!

  • Still nothing at 1034pm

  • I can’t wait for sound shapes. My favorite Vita game by far is Mutant Blobs Attack. It’s fantastic!

  • the plog update after the content is put on the psn store.. so dont wait for the blog to update just check the psn store new content.. Also there is no time that store update it just tuesday anytimeof the day.. But from atime keeping thing we did it s 5pm pacific to 10pm . which around 8-11:45 on the est.

Please note the week after e3 for 5-6yrs of the life of the psn store. on e3 week it update very late.. Because of the content they push out.. agn the ps blog forums updates after the psn store does…

  • probably the most disappointing release in recent history. I’m visiting family overseas and I’ve been stuck with my Vita and phone all day long checking this thread waiting for the one herald of good news to come and shout “My fellow players! Yonder Gravity Rush hath appearified on the horizon!”. But no, instead of this, I get to sit here with this amazing system, staring at the PS Store, waiting for Gravity Rush with literally 3 other games to play. THREE. I love Sony and every system they’ve made since they got into the console business, but this is making me seriously consider just selling back my vita until such a time that there is more support for this system.
I wouldn’t mind as much if the Memory sticks weren’t so ungodly expensive. Got stuck with 8 gigs because my gamestop ran out of higher capacities, and I’m not sure I want to drop $100 on a meager 32 gigabytes of data, especially considering these PSN issues.

  • store still not updated at 10:54 est time..smh..
glad i purchased my gravity rush at gamestop…
for this long wait ps1 classics better be available for vita tonight..
