The PlayStation Recap – Gravity Rush Edition

+ Posted by Sid Shuman // Social Media Manager

With E3 2012 fading into the history books, I’ve finally had a chance to get reacquainted with my PS Vita — starting with Japan Studio’s head spinning open-world adventure Gravity Rush. From there, I plan to move on to Mutant Blobs Attack and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, if nothing else to experience the joy of “transfarring” firsthand.

This sleepy post-E3 week was short on major announcements, but we did see plenty of new videos and trailers: a comprehensive tutorial video for Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, gameplay footage and a story trailer for the PS Vita combat-rhythm game KickBeat, a new trailer for Resistance: Burning Skies, and charming new trailer for Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz for PS Vita (and a release date of October 23rd). We also previewed Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the next game from Platinum Studios and Kojima Productions. Oh, and smartphone and tablet users can download the new Starhawk Mobile Uplink app for iOS or Android. Not too shabby!

What are you playing this weekend?

Any news yet on Gungir compatibility for the Vita? I bought it and its just sitting on my PS3 HDD at the moment. I thought that “all new release PSP games” would be compatible with the Vita (don’t make me find it, but this Yoshida did say in an older interview), but this is apparently not the case. I guess I’ll just request a refund if its not fixed in a week or so, but an update would be nice.

As a sidebar, I’ve been having more fun with Pure Chess than any other Vita game I own. It really is a fantastic Chess game.

@6: I think Atlus is working on it. Not positive about it.

Loving Gravity Rush (especially the art design – who needs realistic visuals?). I hope Sony makes a franchise out of it.
Would also be cool to see Kat show up in Battle Royale.

(2)now go to the vita store and get the escape plan demo
    (3)now play it
(4)guess what, now you can’t play it because there’s an ERROR!!!!!!!

I’ve been playing Gravity Rush over the last few days. It’s a refreshing game, with outstanding artwork and enjoyable writing that brings the characters to life. It stands tall as one of the PS Vita’s defining games, and comes highly recommended!

Gotta wonder how many former SEGA employees work @ Sony’s Japan Studio, this game is my favorite on the Vita and it’s completely because I see shades of Jet Set Radio and Panzer Dragoon…I see Ico too, but the whole package screams SEGA. whatever the case, can’t wait for more DLC, hope you add more than the scheduled 3 sets of DLC, want to keep playing this for a long time. Thanks Japan Studio, an amazing game.
