Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Coming to PS3 and PS Vita

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is a thrilling new racing experience coming to PS3 and PS Vita, featuring Sonic the Hedgehog and a fantastic cast of SEGA All-Stars. This iconic cast will be competing across land, air and water in vehicles that fully transform from cars, to planes to boats.

Following on from the huge success of Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, the characters now have their own unique, transforming vehicles designed to take advantage of the varying terrain. The lineup on the Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed grid sees SEGA favorites — including Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Eggman and AiAi — return to battle against newcomers, including Gilius Thunderhead of Golden Axe and Vyse of Skies of Arcadia.

Many attendees got to play the game for the first time at E3, and chose from one of three available levels: Dragon Canyon (based on Panzer Dragoon), Temple Trouble (based on Super Monkey Ball), and Adder’s Lair (based on Golden Axe). In addition to this new track, we also announced that Joe Mushashi from Shinobi will be a playable character in the game.

Joe isn’t the only new character we announced at the show, though! We were thrilled to have Danica Patrick in our booth to announce that she will be appearing in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Known for her talents behind the wheel, Danica will be playable with customized vehicles in the game. That means you’ll get the chance to test your racing abilities as Danica against an All-Star cast of SEGA characters including Sonic, Knuckles, AiAi and others.

“It’s a very exciting experience since I’ll be sharing the screen with such an iconic character,” said Danica. “I cannot wait for gamers to jump into my customized, transformable vehicles and give Sonic a run for his rings this holiday season!”

To further enhance this partnership, Danica will be racing in a custom No. 7 Sonic the Hedgehog Chevrolet, fielded by JR Motorsports, during the O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge on November 3rd at the Texas Motor Speedway. The race, part of NASCAR’s Nationwide Series, marks Sonic the Hedgehog’s NASCAR debut (and will be televised live on ESPN).

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will be available on PS3 and PS Vita this holiday season.

  • Cross play?

  • Any cross features?

  • Can’t say I really get why they thought adding a real world NASCAR driver was necessary, but I loved the first one and I’ll be sure to check this one out too!

  • this is one of the few third party games i’m interested to play on my vita but i have a couple of questions first:
    1. will it be cross platform play compatible?
    2. how many players will support online on the vita?
    3. are there wepons we can use against other players?
if you could answer those questions would be great, i bought ModNation Racers Road Trip knowing that it didnt support online mutliplayer i won’t do the same mistake on a racing game anymore, to me a racing game must have online multiplayer if it doesnt then its a no buy.

  • VC 3 or Shining Blade HD for Vita. No one wants this crap. This is why Sega is, and will continue to be, struggling.

  • Can not wait for this, I have enjoyed the first game on my xbox 360, but i will be buying this on Vita and as for a console version, will wait for the Wii U version, see how that version turns out. I hope Ristar is in it. I’ve loved the game Ristar since I was a small child. Also an Ecco the Dolphin cameo would be nice. It may not be as awesome as Mario Kart (In my opinion) but it is still very enjoyable.

  • I’m buying.

  • I always love to hear the words Coming to PS3.

  • Is the PS Vita version comparable to the PS3 version? I’d love to get it on Vita if that’s the case.

  • @4, good questions. Please address them Kellie. Btw, the screens look nice!

@5, it’s no where near “crap.” Also, that’s a great way to make a suggestion. ;/

  • All games that have both PS3 and Vita should be mandatory to have cross play.

For example Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 you only play with other vita players, well sometimes I wait 20 minutes just for someone to come play a game. Then you go back and get paired with the same person again.

Being able to play with both formats insures this doesnt happen.

  • I hope the stages are less generic this time around. As in we don’t have 3 or 4 stages that take place within the same looking location.

  • @Christian399 – Speak for yourself. Anything with Sonic in it usually sells pretty well whether you like them or not. Obviously, they wouldn’t have continued with this series if the first one failed. As much as I would like VC3 to come to the US, I think we have to live with the fact that it’s not happening.

Now for my biggest question to SEGA (or anyone who knows): Will Ryo Hazuki be making an appearance again like he did in the first game?

  • Oh and Ristar would be AWESOME… new game on digital services would be great too. With beautiful 2D handrawn sprites… *faints* Since I know the odds of a retail release are pretty much zero. :P

  • I got to play this at E3, and I was pleasantly surprised at how fun it was. The Panzer Dragoon course was pretty cool. Did not play too much of the first Sonic Racing, but I am kinda looking forward to this one!

  • For this kind of games the VITA version is the best choice :D

  • @Christian
Nobody else thinks this is crap.

    This looks awesome!!
I’d also look forward to seeing FF VII HD on the Vita.

  • Loved the first game.
    NOW a few unanswered questions:
Any Vita & PS3 cross play or cross function like cloud save between so we don’t have to unlock all in both etc. (Tho i’d love full cross play like PSABR but i guess most likely that’s asking for to much from a 3rd party studio huh)
Now, WHERE IS BILLY HATCHER. My fav character and one of the main characters too and I still haven’t seen him yet. I’m a be soo disappointed seeing i played the heck out the first one and would love my character to still be in it
    NOW alil off topic but
WTH man where in the WORLD is SONIC ADVENTURE 2 HD I’ve been waiting to get that on psn since the first sonic adventure. I only bought it to make sure 2 will come too. :( wasn’t a fan of dx but even got the upgrade. Please bring 2 out soon, that is if this is a SEGA rep

  • NO VIDEO ..AND ALOT OF UNANSWERED QUESTIONS..SMH HORRIBLE ADVERTISEMENT BY SEGA..I CANT BELIEVE SONY ALLOWED THIS >:/

  • well atleast vita was in the titl. i just want the apps thay showed at E3 & “WHERE IS MY HOT SHOTS GOLF WRLD INVITATATIONAL 1.04” “UPDATE!!!!!!!!” ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Not sure where the confusion comes in, but this is a shovelware, all stars racing game. It may be fun, but its hardly a quality title. What irritates me is to see SEGA cutting their development, decreasing Western output, sitting on their IPs (Shining Force, Bayonetta 2, a proper HD Valkyria Chronicles game instead of something on the well past dead PSP – in NA, that is), and yet they still scrounge up enough to put out another piece of Sonic shovelware. Sonic is to SEGA, what Mario is to Nintendo. A flogged mascot. There’s no creativity involved with this sort of game and passing over on new, fresh, or quality old IPs in favour of yet another Sonic game is just sad.

This won’t dig SEGA out of their hole, it’ll just put them further in.

P.S. To whoever mentioned FF VII HD, please get yourself to a hospital and have those delusions looked into. Square are even worse than SEGA when it comes to managing popular IPs.

  • P.S.S. This post has been up all day and has like 20 replies. Shows how strong the interest is. I imagine this will be a hot seller at the Walmart rollback section when it hits $10.

  • @21: You’re so full of it. This isn’t shovelware. Shovelware is Mario & Sonic Olympic games. These are quality games.

And Mario isn’t a flogged mascot. smh

@22: The PS Blog wouldn’t let me sign in for a long time today. So… and people on here are a fraction of players. smh

You’ve got some hurr in your durr.

  • @21. your a unintelligent person. Why? this game has been in development since a few months after the first. Next if you actually play the first one the game is great quality, higher quality then 85% of sega games. Also I’m sure this is one of the games with a actual decent budget to work with if they are getting real people in it and even promoting this. Also I don’t know shovelware with so much work put into promoting it and shovel ware only takes a few months to make and gets only last second promotion like mario and sonic Olympic games. Anyways the first was rated good enough to compete with mario kart so it couldn’t be shovelware

  • @17&13 uhhhhhh, i kinda do too.

There is SO much other SEGA stuff Id rather have on the Vita right now than a karting clone its not even funny.

    SOOOOO much other stuff.

This game will probably be well made and have its good points BUT its the furthest thing from my want list.

To many kiddy games on a handheld kiddies cant even afford already.

#5 is right wether you dont like the way he put it or not…

  • Looking to pick it up for Vita, given it’s comparable to the PS3 version in content. Looking forward to this as I definitely enjoyed the first one more than I expected (and not having that announcer will make it that much better).

  • Christian399, have you played the first game on? Specifically, on consoles? I was just as quick to dismiss it as you, but I picked it up on PS3 a few weeks ago and was blown away that it was actually a very good karting game. I and most who have played it would say it’s even better than Mario Kart Wii. So while it’s easy to dismiss this as shovelware (as I had thought it was before), it’s anything but.

However, this article is disappointing. Tells me nothing about the Vita version. I want to know if there’s PS3/Vita cross-integration and if it has all of the content of the PS3 verision (and not a port of an eventual iPad/iPhone version. Those had much less content, and rightfully so). Of course, we aren’t getting any answers here, so the whole article was completely unnecessary.

  • DeadKillersRevng

Why does Sonic needs a vehicle?

  • Interesting that they’d advertise this while Sony’s got their own kart racer coming… But I for one will be getting them both.

  • i demand an online play :)

  • Where are the Vita exclusives that you guys promised us ? I still don’t see any reason to own one so far because i own a PS3 and Vita version of the same game is always lacking something (MNR with no online…)

  • 30 i love how when you said that, you used a invalid example. That game was a whole new game. Now look Marvel vs Capcom 3 looks best on vita. and doesn’t have any difference other then not so much flashy crap in the background but it loads in 2 seconds etc. SFXT gets 12 characters added free. but comes later etc. Some are this case tho like Lega Batman 2 which I was going to get on vita cuz it actually looked good and i would only play lego games on the go, cuz i can’t play them serious are only a few minutes at a time.
Anyways I hope this isn’t going to be a 3ds ported version, and it will either be made entirely for it or identical to ps3. I don’t want my handheld being held back cuz of others

  • Billy Hatcher!!

  • I CAN’T WAIT!!! Loved the first one, and will be buying both Vita and PS3 versions for sure.

THIS SERIES PUTS MOD NATION RACERS TO SHAME! Why? It actually CONTROLS WELL.

  • @23 I guess that you missed Nintendo’s E3 where they announced about 4 Mario games in the span of 10 minutes. Yeah, he’s not flogged at all… I’m also curious as to what – in your mind – makes the distinction between Mario & Sonic at the Olympics and this title being shovel-ware. By what specific qualifiers, might I ask?

@24 Teflon02, if you’re going to call someone: “an unintelligent person” – do it correctly. Otherwise you come off as exactly the sort of person you’re trying to insult.

  • 34 and explain to my why i didn’t do it correctly? Cause I can tell you how what you just said doesn’t make sense lol.

  • The First is so far from shovel-ware lol. Assumptions make you look dumb. Also you proved yourself to look unintelligent just by replying. Funny people on the net love to talk so much crap then act like they don’t understand you. Here I’ll make it easier for you to understand.
Shovel-ware is games a company just throws out without any real promotion, no real budget, just stuff they throw out to have a few games out. This on the other hand, is a game that they actually put alot of work into. I played and platinum’d the first when it first came out and I still play it now. If anything it’s underrated. Look at something like IGN’s review. They games full of content. Even a mission mode. About 24 stages I believe. Around 20 characters etc. Point is, you have to be unintelligent to call this Shovel-ware. They even stepped it up and also have a actual racer in it and advertising the game. I never heard of shovel-ware with so much work put into it. Look at interviews and then tell me this is shovel-ware so I can tell you. You either don’t understand what shovel-ware is or your completely unintelligent. Okay?

  • Comment moderated, really?

  • (Let’s try this)
Hrm. You said (originally): “your a unintelligent person”. Scroll up and read your own words. I realize that its summer break, and you’re probably out of school, but when you get back to GR 8 or whatever you’re in, do pay particular attention to diction and grammar.

Can you tell me what’s wrong with that statement?

Here, let me correct it for you (as I did in my post): “you’re an unintelligent person.” There. That’s how the sentence should read. If you are going to insult someone’s intelligence, you should darn well make sure that your own in unimpeachable. I understand your point vividly. You like this style of game, I see it as a cheap franchise cash in with no creative value. We DISAGREE. And that’s alight by me. Hammering your viewpoint like an imbecile banging on a pot for attention doesn’t make that any more or less the case. Cheers.

  • P.S. If you think that this game wasn’t made on a budget and maximized for profit (thus by your own definition “shovelware”) you’re wrong. Developers reuse mascots and environments and models all the time for efficiency. I’d be willing to wager they rehash or reskin a lot of the 2010 game’s material. Its far easier – and cheaper – than to create new assets and materials. Did you follow SEGA’s recent financial reporting? Their budgets have been slashed across the board, profits are sinking and their only focusing on known I.P.s. This game has been in development for a year tops and is hitting 5 platforms. This isn’t some carefully crafted masterpiece, its a quick cash grab. That doesn’t negate the enjoyment – and fervour – for the people who follow the series, but it is what it is.

Christian399: “If you are going to insult someone’s intelligence, you should darn well make sure that your own in unimpeachable”

Did you mean to say, “is”? Ha ha ha… You know, if you’re going to insult someone’s grammar, you should make sure your own is without flaws (blah blah blah), don’t you think? Don’t claim it’s a “typo” either. The N key isn’t anywhere near the S key.

    “And that’s alight by me”

Did you mean to type “alright”? Hmm… that again…

“This isn’t some carefully crafted masterpiece”

You wouldn’t know that unless you’ve played it. Apparently, the first game was very well received in every demographic, so if this game improves upon the previous one, we’d surely have a winner on our hands. And why do you care if people enjoy it or not anyway? If you don’t like it, fine. But move on. Let everyone else enjoy it in peace. It’s funny that you claimed “no one wants this crap”, when the majority of the comments here are expressing excitement in anticipation of the game’s eventual release. You’ve been proven to be ignorant on the subject of gamers’ desires merely by that alone, and there’s nothing you can do to deny it. The posts are there.

  • @ 40. I didn’t take the 45 minutes combing over my post to ensure that it was free of grammatical errors like you surely did, nor was I the one who was calling people out on their intelligence in the first place – Teflon started that ball rolling. I don’t read my posts, I just write them; not bad for first drafts.

And about 25% or more of the posts in this thread are just troll exchanges (myself guilty in that regard), so actual interest in the game is lower. A game like Okami HD gets almost 300 posts. I’m not sure what your point is, but you certainly didn’t prove it as emphatically as you think you did.

Have a great weekend. I still believe that this game is shovel-ware, not of the worst variety, but shovel-ware nonetheless. First draft. Signing off. Enjoy whipping out your spectacles and scouring my post for errors and continuing your defence of internet injustices.

P.S. I have played the 2010 version on the Wii. Perhaps it was the platform tainting my view, but there was nothing in there of depth or worth a second look.

  • PrimeroIncognito

    Poor damage control, really.

Whatever makes you feel better, bro. Actually, if you’ve seen me chat back and forth with people here before, you’d know that I post messages quite fast so I don’t take the time to proofread anything I type. I guess I’m just a natural. Don’t be jealous.

” I’m not sure what your point is, but you certainly didn’t prove it as emphatically as you think you did.”

For you to even say that, it must have been emphatic. You seem to have a denial problem. Clearly, the main point I was making was pointing out your blatant hypocrisy… in both your criticism of another’s grammar, and your implication that he was akin to an imbecile banging a pot for attention when that’s exactly what you’re doing. Now look at you back-pedaling. You were so quick to smear his grammar when it failed to impress you, but as soon as I point out your own mistakes, you try to play it off like I’m some hyper-obsessive nutcase “scouring” posts for flubs. Well, is that what you did to his posts then?

Coincidentally, I fail to see what point YOU are trying to make with repeated posts bashing the game and SEGA. Who’s forcing you to buy it? Just ignore it if you’re not interested.

  • PrimeroIncognito

And now, to stroke my ego and appear super-intelligent, I will now also state that this is my first draft. (Even though something like that can’t be proven when so much time has passed between posts) I hope I didn’t make any errors, ’cause then I’ll look totally awesome. Yeah man, I’m like, super-knowledgeable about the industry. Trust me, because… I said so. Dude, I rule. Every game you like sucks, and every game I like is awesome. No joke. It’s totally like that.

By the way, no matter how nonchalant you claim to be, you still have no excuse for hitting the N key when you should have hit the S key… ;)

  • Believe me Chiristian399 you are not alone in your distaste for this game or the new genre/trend it represents…not what so ever.

I can remember how innovative Sega was when they had their own system, and I imagine anyone else old enough to remember these days feels the same. What Sega does now is a crying shame compared to what they used to do.

Believe me people, nothing good happens for us gamers when developers lose the will OR motivation to innovate, and fans like these that just gobble up this new trend in gaming are gonna turn the whole industry into Ipad app quality mess of copy and paste style developed games.

Just think for a minute, if you replaced all the iconic characters with stick figures what would you be left with? A standerd game that MAYBE at best has a few interesting mechanics…MAYBE. Then ask yourself what are you actually buying into?

PSallstars is a good example of this trend, and even though I am excited to see a Sony Brawler, atleast I can be honest about what it means to support these kind of titles and not sit around pretending that its something fantastic for the gaming industry in general.

You’ll all see in time, these kind of games get very annoying after awhile…VERY.

  • Christian if you have never been gangbanged, you have now buddy…id have talked aload a crap if people had responded to such words as your first post with such hostillity as well.

It would make my day if you got back on here and kept rasing peoples blood pressure some more (:

And wats alldis proper laguage crap all you are going on about neway, this is the internet for god sake, not your language farts test. Obviously its not the least bit important whatso eva BRAHS! LmaoRoflolAded

Heres to the hay days of Sega and all the people who fall Into their supiriorty complexes online!!! Huzahhhh!!!

PS: can someone spell check me ;)

  • Hey Primero, did you want to actually contend with any of the meat of my argument, or just the spice? Do you have anything to counter my claims of SEGA’s recent financial distress, resource squeeze or reliance on Sonic and Sports Management (think that was the other one) franchises? Just do a quick Google and you can check out – and confirm – all the deets yourself. They’re making this game because it is safe and easy to do so. As a fan of some of their other franchises that saddens me, annoys me even. Hence I find myself here expressing my distaste. I’m not looking for attention, but if my strong opinions tend to draw some, I’ve never been one to shy away from conflict.

  • Back to SEGA, I honestly I don’t know why they’d even bother. The game sold around 300K in 2 years on the PS3 – its not exactly setting the charts on fire. Unless… let’s see, they’ve done a cost>performance evaluation and decided that its far cheaper to trot this game out on FIVE platforms than it would be to experiment on anything riskier. I would be shocked if they weren’t reusing assets or environments. I don’t claim to be Pachterite – never did, but I certainly have enough common sense to figure out the mentality behind this sort of move. Lots of low budget games can be fun, I’m not arguing the “fun” factor or value that you and many of the – measurable small and vocal – community here seem to advocate for and enjoy. Angry Birds is a more popular game than Chess in this day and age, but I’ll leave it to you to decide which game has more intrinsic value or richness. My vote would be Chess, but to each their own.

WastelandDan, spellcheck is built into the Blog, so you’re good there chap. And I don’t gangbang any more since I got married. In my experience that was a rather weak attempt too – needs more thrust.

  • I will retract the use of “crap”, in a blanketed sense, since that’s open to subjectivity and is entirely my opinion. It seems to be the crux of what has offended people the most. To me this game looks like crap. In my opinion, I would like to see more confidence from SEGA in their secondary IPs, not just branded Sonic shovel-ware (again, opinion, though I’ve backed it up with reasoning as to why I believe this to be so).

This has been a lovely chat, with so many esteemed minds (well one or two).

  • Brilliant, I’ve waiting this game for a long time !
