YouTube for PS Vita

Hi everyone! Recently, we announced that YouTube would be coming to PS Vita. It’s the latest application to be added to PS Vita’s growing portfolio of applications and one that takes full advantage of PS Vita’s high-definition and 3G capabilities. Starting later today, the YouTube application will be available as a free download via the PS Vita Store on PSN.

With the YouTube application on PS Vita, you can watch millions of YouTube videos on PS Vita’s stunning 5” OLED screen. And with 3G, you can watch your favorite content – from comedy to gaming tips to viral videos – while you’re at home or on-the-go. The application itself is straightforward and easy to use. Key features include:

  • Recommended Videos: Displays videos recommended from YouTube
  • Search: Search for videos by typing a keyword
  • Viewing History : Displays the most recent videos you’ve viewed
  • Add to Favorites: Displays a list of videos you’ve added to your Favorites list. You must be signed into your account to add a video to your Favorites.

YouTube for PS Vita

Videos will be viewable in two modes – full screen and small screen. In Full Screen mode, a control panel will be displayed on the screen, which will allow you to easily expand or minimize videos. Additionally, an HD button will appear when playing high definition (up to 720p) videos. Simply tap on the HD button to switch from HD to SD.

YouTube for PS Vita

In Small Screen mode, you’ll be able to view a video, while having access to the Like or Dislike buttons, Suggested Videos, Comments and Information.

PS Vita was designed to deliver the best high-resolution portable entertainment experience possible. We’re very excited to be able to offer the content and applications that are compelling to you, and we looking forward to bringing you more as we move further into 2012.

How will you use YouTube on your PS Vita? Let us know in the comments!

Youtube’s Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Community Guideline will apply when using this application. These terms can be viewed on Youtube’s website or from “Option” > “Settings” > “Terms and Privacy Policy” in the application.

Nice thought but,

how about a decent YouTube application for the PlayStation 3 (or PSP)?

That (those) would be much appreciated.

Couldn’t find the app list you’re talking about, but some of the apps announced have committed to PS Vita but are still in development. We’ll announce expected release dates for those apps as soon as we’ve locked down their production schedule.

{well, it’s about time} THANK YOU! I look forward to this. I hope that it’s possible to run this app while keeping a game paused in the background. It would be excellent for quickly pulling up a game tutorial video when getting stuck in an problem section — not that I would ever need such a thing *cough*. Additionally, it would be awesome if you could launch the app with the PS Store in the background, for researching a game you might want to buy — especially since there are no video samples in the PS Store on the Vita.

Unfortunately it isn’t possible to keep the game paused in the background, but you don’t need to resort to a walkthrough video mid-game right?

I don’t get it… It’s like Gamers these days just aren’t satisfied by anything that comes out.. they always want more, more, more, more, more. “Great this is out! Now give me this!” … “This is great, but where’s this?” … Back in 1990 (or so, give or take a few years.) The Gameboy Launched at $189.99… Do you all know what that system could do? It played games. In black and white, Witih no backlight, no Rechargeable batteries… That’s it. No touch controls, no HD screen, No browser, no backwards compatability… No Dual analog, No online play, No trophies, No apps.. No online store… No social Networking.. No party chat, No friends list.. No Music player, no Video player.. No front/ backside camera.. No cross play.. And it was $189.99!! … All it did was play games!! It’s so sad seeing people complaining about content, when the Vita offers so freakin’ much.. It’s sickening really.. Just be patient and be appreciative… You don’t know how good you have it.

We don’t have subscriptions working on the app but you could select your favorite videos on VEVO and watch them in the favorites section. I know it’s not the same as having a fully functional VEVO on YouTube.com…I’ll have to research this some more…

Agreed.

Also, the HD and SD have a huge difference. Seeing small text on video while on SD mode is not great, but in HD you can see almost every letter (depending on the size of the text in the video).
