PlayStation Store Update

Grace Chen's Avatar + Posted by Grace Chen on Jun 26, 2012 // Sr. Director, PlayStation Store

Hi Everyone -
We kick things off this week with two of the biggest PlayStation 3 games of all time are making their way to digital release for the first time. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves are now available to download! Pick up both games as a bundle for $39.99, or purchase individually at $29.99.

blogheader_spiderman_150_062612

The Amazing Spider-man hits theaters next week (and from the sounds of some early reviews, it sounds awesome) but the game is available for download today in the PS3 Full Games category. Navigate through the Manhattan skyline with the return of the fan-favorite, free-roaming, web-slinging gameplay. With classic villains, visceral combat choices, and an all-new epilogue story to the movie, this is a release no super hero fan should miss.

Resident Evil fans have a lot to look forward to with Resident Evil 6, but to satiate the hunger for zombie action, you may want to check out Resident Evil: Chronicles HD. This bundle of two amazing retellings of the early Resident Evil storylines features Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (previously not available on PlayStation consoles), which have been remastered for the PlayStation 3 with HD graphics and PlayStation Move compatibility. It’s available at a discounted price over the retail release and an even greater discount with a PlayStation Plus membership.

PS Vita sees more great functionality with the YouTube App now available for download. With the YouTube application on PS Vita, you can watch millions of YouTube videos on PS Vita’s stunning 5” OLED screen. And with 3G, you can watch your favorite content – from comedy to gaming tips to viral videos – while you’re at home or on-the-go.

GT DLC

The online portion of GT Academy 2012 may have ended, but that doesn’t mean you should stop playing Gran Turismo 5! Arriving this week are two new exciting DLCs – The Twin Ring Motegi Pack and Scion FR-S 12. Check out the dedicated post for more info on this content.

UnchainedBlades

PSP owners take note; there’s some great content this week including Unchained Blades. Featuring the work of developers from legendary games like Grandia and the Lunar series, this JRPG dungeon crawler boasts a unique combat system where teams of four characters battle and unchain monsters to unleash devastating abilities.

PlayStation Plus subscribers get some great updates today as well. You may have seen the news that the Journey Collector’s Edition is coming August 28th. While this amazing package will feature a TON of exclusive content (in game commentary, revealing documentaries, and more) PlayStation Plus members can now snag the core PSN Game Journey with a 20% discount for $11.99. You’ll also see the aforementioned Plus discount on new release Resident Evil: Chronicles HD, for 10% off, as well as 20 free Virtua Fighter 5 avatars to sport on your PSN profile. Note that next week we’ll be talking about the Plus outlook for July, so stay tuned.

Check out all the details below including Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad fishtailing on to the PlayStation Store, and additional content like new Dragon’s Dogma add-ons, and an all new Spy Costume Pack for PS Vita title Gravity Rush. Make sure you check out all the details below and let us know your thoughts in the comments! Don’t forget to check out the PlayStation Store Update thread on the PlayStation Community forums to discuss this week’s releases.

Awesome update… just two questions.
1.) Are we getting PS+ Vita discounts. Apparently EU did. I would have bought Unit 13 in a heart beat with a discounted version.
2.) When is that nice PSOne Vita update coming along? Any news?

Resistance Retribution is still absent from the PSN store… what gives?

Also, can we see some PS+ benefits over on the Vita?

And while I can respect having a childrens game released for the PSOne of the week (as there are parents who do look for them for their kids), it would be easier to overlook were there more frequent and varied uploads for said PSOne games in the first place.

Do have to wonder why so many companies do not jump on the bandwagan of rereleasing classic games on platforms like the PS3/PSP/Vita or Nintendo’s 3DS/Wii. Outside of any legal payment for said classics and the fees to post them on said stores, what cost is there to post such games, as they are largely finished? Fees to test them on the emulations, sure.

I only ask, as there are many classics that consumers would leap for. Capcom has only to publish any Mega Man or Breath of Fire, and it sells. Same with SquareEnix (where is Dragon Quest VII?).

Not all games will work when emulated on PS3. Sometimes there are bugs on these older titles that can’t work without a firmware update, etc. So only certain PS one Classics can be emulated digitally on PS3. The ones that work, we get them out there as long as we have the publisher agreement in place. So yes, there is a component that needs to go through publishers as well.

Any possible way to get that Unchained Blades Pic as a wallpaper? I just fell in love with it and it would make a excellent wallpaper on my desktop.

I’d like to push a vote for Unchained Blades’ compatibility on Vita, Morgan. Is that something you could do – passing on some feedback to SCEA to get in touch with XSEED about getting the compatibility working there? UB looks to be too beautiful of a game to not be playing on the OLED screen, especially for the full $30; that would justify my potential purchase of the game, though.

Thanks! :)

I’m having same issue with Pinball Arcade DLC.
When the first set of DLC came out a few weeks back on Vita, it also came with a game update for the main game as well.
I’m sure the PS3 version needs a software update as well for the DLC to work.
Hopefully will hit soon.

Morgan, you never answer my questions (not once), but I have to try:

Any idea when new items might be cycled into the Game Collection? The E3 conference made it sound like it would be monthly, but we have heard nothing to confirm of deny this.
Also, does the Game Collection mean there will be no other free games during weekly updates? If so, I can understand that, but this was also never addressed during or after E3.
Lastly, any more bundles (games + dlc) coming soon that you can tell us about? I think this is an awesome idea (especially paired with PS+ discounts – got Bioshock 2 complete for $20!). There hasn’t been anything said about them in weeks (I am not counting Uncharted because it is available in disc form that way (and cheaper, I might add), and RE Chronicles is a remake, not a full PS3 game).
Thanks.

WTH Sony? Journey is your BEST selling PSN game EVER, and all you can do is knock it down 20% for PSN+ subscribers? Whatever happened to the typical 50% off for PS+ and 30% for everyone else?

Cut me a break! You say this price won’t be dropping anytime soon, but I see a forseeable price drop when you decide to release the 3-game disc in late Aug. What’s the point of buying a 2-hour, $15 game when the disc itself will have that game drop to $10 MAX (ie. $8.50/game (flow, flower, journey), $4.50 for all remainder useless crap thrown onto the disc to “justify” the $30 fee).

No thanks. I’ll just hold out on buying Jounrey, even if that means the world will end before i see any better sale than a crappy 20% off.

Listen to your consumers, per Vita, PSN, PS3 rather than waste your money on useless R&D for the same 30+ models for the same HDTV and 20+ models of the same bluray player.

@77

I totally agree, btw. We need more Dynamic Themes for PS+. There hasn’t been a game-related theme in quite some time.
Any word on this, Morgan (he asks, knowing he will get no answer)?

(Also, it would be great to be able to edit out comments on here. Just a thought.)

Yep, the Pinball Arcade addon tables don’t show up on my PS3 version and I’ve tried installing twice. I’ve really been looking forward to them, too.

Morgan, can someone look into this, please? Thanks :)

Not themes, but dynamic themes. You know, those that have background movement. Sometimes they even change the icons in the XMB.

I have a question about UNCHARTED Greatest Hits Dual Pack and any other digitally distributed games…

Is the audio and video quality the same with a digitally distributed game in comparison to a game on BD-ROM?

Lame.

Wheres the free games? Was that just a one shot deal?

You announce more full PS3 games on PSN free for Plus then dont add anymore beyond the initial announcement.

And everytime I bite the bullet and buy a game full price I turn around and its free on PSN a week or two later.

It seems the message is just buy a single game and wait for all others to become free in time.

Dont make my mistake guys, I bought LBP2, Infamous 1/2, and tons of others games that are now free and I havent even opened them yet!

So I been waiting for Motorstorm Apocalypse to come free to PSN to no avail.

You guys at Sony keep sending mixed confusing messages and never stop and wonder why.

How about a sneak peak of games which “may” come free by the end of this year?

If I buy 1 more game that turns up free on PSN this year I’m done with Plus and maybe even done buying new games period.

How about this, you have a game that turns free, if I already own it I should be able to send in my reciept and get a $5 or $10 credit on PSN for being such a loyal customer.

Morgan The demo for Journey was nice but I felt personally it was only worth 10 bucks in my eyes. And I was hoping with the new retail disc version of all 3 games from thatgamecompany that we would of seen a price drop soon for the digital version.

It would of been nice to have an option to download the bundle of the Virtua Fighter avatars instead of going 1 buy one.

Also I have noticed that 3 games are leaving the Instant game collection so does that mean we will be seeing 3 new games next week ???

For those of you having trouble with Pinball Arcades dlc tables….. Here is what you have to do.. Erase the main game data, not the save data. Then reinstall and unlock the main game and the dlc tables you have unlocked and it will then work..

First time poster. I have to say I do love my Vita and I know things are coming but I have to agree… there hasnt been too much talk about certain games no longer available. I bought Phantasy Star Portable 2 digital and I would love to play this game on my Vita. Please just give the people some answers as to why its removed, if we will ever see it on the Vita screen. Some of the new PSP games look sweet and would love to play them on the Vita.. I understand they have to get certified and I can respect that, but is there anyway to give more information than they are working on it.
