PlayStation Store Update

Grace Chen's Avatar + Posted by Grace Chen on Jun 26, 2012 // Sr. Director, PlayStation Store

Hi Everyone -
We kick things off this week with two of the biggest PlayStation 3 games of all time are making their way to digital release for the first time. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves are now available to download! Pick up both games as a bundle for $39.99, or purchase individually at $29.99.

blogheader_spiderman_150_062612

The Amazing Spider-man hits theaters next week (and from the sounds of some early reviews, it sounds awesome) but the game is available for download today in the PS3 Full Games category. Navigate through the Manhattan skyline with the return of the fan-favorite, free-roaming, web-slinging gameplay. With classic villains, visceral combat choices, and an all-new epilogue story to the movie, this is a release no super hero fan should miss.

Resident Evil fans have a lot to look forward to with Resident Evil 6, but to satiate the hunger for zombie action, you may want to check out Resident Evil: Chronicles HD. This bundle of two amazing retellings of the early Resident Evil storylines features Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (previously not available on PlayStation consoles), which have been remastered for the PlayStation 3 with HD graphics and PlayStation Move compatibility. It’s available at a discounted price over the retail release and an even greater discount with a PlayStation Plus membership.

PS Vita sees more great functionality with the YouTube App now available for download. With the YouTube application on PS Vita, you can watch millions of YouTube videos on PS Vita’s stunning 5” OLED screen. And with 3G, you can watch your favorite content – from comedy to gaming tips to viral videos – while you’re at home or on-the-go.

GT DLC

The online portion of GT Academy 2012 may have ended, but that doesn’t mean you should stop playing Gran Turismo 5! Arriving this week are two new exciting DLCs – The Twin Ring Motegi Pack and Scion FR-S 12. Check out the dedicated post for more info on this content.

UnchainedBlades

PSP owners take note; there’s some great content this week including Unchained Blades. Featuring the work of developers from legendary games like Grandia and the Lunar series, this JRPG dungeon crawler boasts a unique combat system where teams of four characters battle and unchain monsters to unleash devastating abilities.

PlayStation Plus subscribers get some great updates today as well. You may have seen the news that the Journey Collector’s Edition is coming August 28th. While this amazing package will feature a TON of exclusive content (in game commentary, revealing documentaries, and more) PlayStation Plus members can now snag the core PSN Game Journey with a 20% discount for $11.99. You’ll also see the aforementioned Plus discount on new release Resident Evil: Chronicles HD, for 10% off, as well as 20 free Virtua Fighter 5 avatars to sport on your PSN profile. Note that next week we’ll be talking about the Plus outlook for July, so stay tuned.

Check out all the details below including Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad fishtailing on to the PlayStation Store, and additional content like new Dragon’s Dogma add-ons, and an all new Spy Costume Pack for PS Vita title Gravity Rush. Make sure you check out all the details below and let us know your thoughts in the comments! Don’t forget to check out the PlayStation Store Update thread on the PlayStation Community forums to discuss this week’s releases.

Thanks for your dedicated work and effort, psn team, but this PSOne and PS2 Classics are a joke.
Where’s Einhander? Ape Escape? Bust a Groove? Katamari Damacy? Kingdom Hearts? Dragon Quest VIII?

And those digital download games are too overpriced by the way…

Can I make a suggestion? One place where the Vita store falls short is highlighting the existing PSP/Mini titles that get updated as Vita-compatible. I’ve noticed some major titles added recently that I’m sure weren’t there at launch (Little Big Planet PSP, Ys Chronicles I & II, just to name a couple) but only by re-browsing the PSP & Mini alphabetical sections. Until the store can highlight these properly; this blog would be an excellent place to list those.

Yet another week where I “pass by” the Store and this time, all I got was a car on GT5 (waiting for some discounted DLC on that game… $5 is too expensive for 2 tracks, given that the game itself is priced at $40 and IT INCLUDES DLC!)

Anyway, I liked how PS+ started the month, however, there’s nothing else for us during the whole month! (I mean, there are the discounts, but they aren’t great nor they are spread through the Store, just a few things are discounted for PS+ members AND the discount isn’t as great as we expect (sorry for sounding like a ‘greedy’ player but when I became a Plus subscriber I was expecting free games, nice discounts on great titles, and minis/PSOne classics every week until the month ends, so it could start again with new free games on the next month. (continues on next post due to the 1250 character limit)

+ zennacko on June 26th, 2012 at 3:47 pm said:

Don’t get me wrong, I like the way PS+ is right now, giving new subscribers a truckload of games to play, however I’d love to see some changes, such as a “discount quota” (Plus subscribers get a ‘quota of discounts’, in percentage or maybe dollars saved, then they could apply, up to a certain limit(e.g. you could discount something up to 60% of its original price) , on the games/DLC/whatever else they’d love to own for a lower price, instead of waiting until the discount of their dreams appear on any Tuesday.

Also, I’d love to see a “Free Game Menu” for PS+, of course, with Instant Game Collection you try to target different people with different game styles, but I’d like to see a PS+ fully customizable by their subscribers(along with the idea above, PS+ would be like “YOUR choice of free games, YOUR choice of discounts”)… I mean, I don’t like FPS on consoles, so why should I get one for PS3?(well, I could pass on the FPS but then the experience and the effective amount of free games(the difference between ‘available’ and ‘games I want to play’) wouldn’t be the same for me…)

155

+ zennacko on June 26th, 2012 at 3:48 pm said:

Instead, I’d like to CHOOSE the games I’d like to play every month, that way, if Plus subscribers got a menu, to choose whatever they wanted for free that month (I understand that Sony can’t just throw the whole game catalog for us, but I think they could work it out somehow)

Sorry for the eventual “text wall” but these were my 2 cents :) Well, my $49,99 to be honest :D

Sheesh, did I write too much that I had to split my post in three parts? D:

Uncharted is a little steep in price… especially considering the time they’ve been out… I have played them personally but I could probably get a better deal elsewhere even with the PS+

also the FPS Resident Evil games I never liked.. I remember when I was stationed in Iraq, I told my mom to get and send me Resident Evil 4 but she sent me Resident Evil: Chronicles… haha I was like “What the hell”

Yeah the digital price on alot of the games are a joke. I bought AC Revalations which came with AC1 for 10 bucks at bestbuy and the next day it was put on the store for 60 bones which has been reduced to 40. Digital copies shouldn’t be more than physical copies of games. I don’t have much income right now so i almost always wait for stuff to go on sale. I bought like 50 games on psn and only paid full price for like 3 of them. Probably got about 40 games for half off because the people at the store screwed up my first psn purchase and my sony products always break so I ain’t paying full price for much anymore. PS Get rid of the Drop blog, it is worthless.

Why are people complaining about all of the free games in plus coming out at once. I honestly think its better we still are getting the free themes and avatars like before and we still get discounts on certain games.

I don’t mind not seeing much of the Minis and PS one classics since I never picked them up to begin with. The only Mini I did take was Where is your heart which was only a mediocre game at least to me it was.

Anyone else pick up the Resident Evil Chronicles bundle and unable to get Darkside Chronicles to download?

Granted, now I’m stuck in “I tried to delete Resistance 3 without knowing its game data takes over an hour to delete, so now I am spending an hour trying to delete corrupted data after a hard reboot and file system restore” hell, but it’d be nice to be able to download it when that’s done. When I tried straight after purchasing, I could get Umbrella to download, but not Darkside. I kept getting an error message.

Yeah, I don’t get it either…you’re still getting all the same content, but instead you don’t have to wait every few weeks to get a few. If they’re ready for release, then release them all! There’s no point in holding them back for everyone else.

If you only want 3 games a week, then only download 3 a week, haha!

I’m just wondering if I should wait for this supposed patch, or do all that other stuff instead…

Morgan,

Can we get a “fix” to the Vita and PS3 (maybe it wouldn’t be both!) so a few things are reflected:

- When someone is on the Vita, it isn’t shown properly on the PS3. It works the other way around – you can see in the friend list app that people are on their PS3, with the controller icon. When people are on the Vita, they’re showing up on the bottom of my PS3 friend list, without any profile information displayed.
- The trophy sync thing others have brought up.
Also:
- Allow Plus users to have their PS3 comment caption displayed on their Vita profile, and their Vita profile panel displayed on the PS3 profile. I say Plus users, because this would take some syncing that could go along with the automatic update. Also, why 21 characters for the comment bar? Odd, in more than one meaning of the word.

Hey, Morgan,

I tried to locate information regading the instant game collection, but did found any on the blog. I think it would be better create a post to better explain what it is!

My doubts are about the usage of these games during PS+ subscription and the rules about how many times you can download a game.

If I get any free game (others different from the IGC) it will also only be playable during my subscription?

Thanks for the store update. Installed firmware 4.20 and glad to see the update allows upload of multiple/selectable game saves to cloud.

Would appreciate if the next update can include the much-awaited abilities:
(1) to select multiple contents from the purchased game/content list for download. This is a basic function indispensable for users who purchase PSN contents every week and the list is ever growing.

(2) the ability to manage/create folders for organizing games/contents on PS3.

Thanks very much for your consideration.

I’m very excited to see Morgan say in one of his replies that they’re working on incorporating the Vita into PS+ in the future. That will be great. And thanks Morgan for always reading these comments and replying. It’s very nice to be heard.

@nomorevampires
push triangle on a game file and go to information and write in the name of the album you want to put that game in.

According to Farsight (on their FB page), there is a work around to getting The Pinball Arcade DLC working on the PS3. Just redownload the demo. The demo was recently updated with the fixes attached to it.

Anyone looking for a great classic fix, do yourself a favor and check out Tomba from last week’s drop. This is one that you certainly won’t want to miss!

Morgan –

I know someone left a comment some weeks ago about not being able to re-grab certain PS1 titles that were on PS+ after their PS+ period, and you had said that it was something that you were looking into.

Quick story: My PS+ subscription ran out, after which I went out and grabbed another time card and renewed it. I had downloaded PS+ PS1 games (Syphon Filter, Crash, etc) that were given, and still have the content on the system, but it seems that the license isn’t being renewed, even when I re-download them from the Store.

Is this something we know a fix for?

Thanks.
-Ryan

$300 for each uncharted game and 20Gb each? And this is why I dont support the digital only idea. Anyway, the Birds of steel map pack 2 and ME3 ending is all I wanted.

Thank you Morgan for your answers, :) It’s really nice to know that you read all comments and get feedback, and it’s great that Sony is more willing to address their’s customers feedback, It will really pay off with a lot more satisfied customers.

I hope you can suggest a Youtube app for PS3 too, It would be sweet, sometimes when not playing I like to browse some youtube videos, and getting them to play on HD is a must on an HDTV.

As for some users questions about PS PLUS
This is from the EU Blog: Should answer some of them. may or not may apply 100% for the US PSN.. but you should get an idea.

First of all, you’re still going to get MASSES of discounts on all kinds of stuff in Store, both Plus exclusive and extra discounts on Special offers.

You’re still going to get exclusive dynamic themes, avatars and access to beta trials – in fact we’ve got some truly fantastic betas coming before the end of the year for you.

Then, there are the games. From now on, the watchwords are more and better. More new games, more digital Blu-ray, more of the very best the PlayStation®Store can provide.

You’re getting 10 games up front and from next month, 3 of those games will change, and you’ll get at least 3 games per month thereafter. (so they will ROTATING at least 3 games each month, Again same rules of plus apply if you get the game while its on the store you will keep it as long as you are subscribed.)

The important thing is that whenever you decide to join PlayStation®Plus, there will be a minimum of 10 games for you to start playing right away.

Rules of PLUS are as always.. you keep the free games as long as you are subs

@Morgan, please send this thought up to the rest of the team… I am a loyal PS3 user and love playstation plus but i do not own a vita nor do i see myself getting one, im sure its great for those who enjoy playing games on tiny screens….i like gaming on my 60 inch Sony TV ….So here are my thoughts on these people begging for vita titles to be included in PS Plus…..I subscribe to Playstation plus for playstation games not vita games HINTS the title of the subscription PS Plus not Vita Plus….having said that you guys might need to consider making a new and totally different subscription called Vita Plus for Vita owners. My point is i dont want to see PS Plus taking away from PS3 games and discounts to be spread into Vita games and discounts that i will never use…..Sorry Vita owners JUST SAYING……..

“yep. we’re working on it, but before we do anything with this, it has to be good from all angles and we don’t want to launch it half baked. thanks for your patience.”

Why not? You launched the Vita half baked What with Lack of PSOne support, Youtube support, Twitter Support, the inability to launch the browser while in game without having to close the game etc.

What is there to half bake anyway? discounts on the extended warranties(two year for the price of one), Cloud storage, Free Vita games worked into the free game rotation. BAM Plus for Vita done.

How hard is that? Not half baked and could have been done from the very beginning.

Seriously Morgan for the love of god, the next system you release: Learn from your previous systems and have everything that’s supposed to be there, there from the very beginning. No more Youtube or Netflix apps later, no more forgetting to add the ability to add multiple items to the cart on the store, No more announcing things that won’t come for 6 months+ etc.

Do the hardware and software people not communicate with each other or something? You guys seriously need to get on the same page.
