PlayStation Store Update

Hi Everyone –
We kick things off this week with two of the biggest PlayStation 3 games of all time are making their way to digital release for the first time. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves are now available to download! Pick up both games as a bundle for $39.99, or purchase individually at $29.99.

blogheader_spiderman_150_062612

The Amazing Spider-man hits theaters next week (and from the sounds of some early reviews, it sounds awesome) but the game is available for download today in the PS3 Full Games category. Navigate through the Manhattan skyline with the return of the fan-favorite, free-roaming, web-slinging gameplay. With classic villains, visceral combat choices, and an all-new epilogue story to the movie, this is a release no super hero fan should miss.

Resident Evil fans have a lot to look forward to with Resident Evil 6, but to satiate the hunger for zombie action, you may want to check out Resident Evil: Chronicles HD. This bundle of two amazing retellings of the early Resident Evil storylines features Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (previously not available on PlayStation consoles), which have been remastered for the PlayStation 3 with HD graphics and PlayStation Move compatibility. It’s available at a discounted price over the retail release and an even greater discount with a PlayStation Plus membership.

PS Vita sees more great functionality with the YouTube App now available for download. With the YouTube application on PS Vita, you can watch millions of YouTube videos on PS Vita’s stunning 5” OLED screen. And with 3G, you can watch your favorite content – from comedy to gaming tips to viral videos – while you’re at home or on-the-go.

GT DLC

The online portion of GT Academy 2012 may have ended, but that doesn’t mean you should stop playing Gran Turismo 5! Arriving this week are two new exciting DLCs – The Twin Ring Motegi Pack and Scion FR-S 12. Check out the dedicated post for more info on this content.

UnchainedBlades

PSP owners take note; there’s some great content this week including Unchained Blades. Featuring the work of developers from legendary games like Grandia and the Lunar series, this JRPG dungeon crawler boasts a unique combat system where teams of four characters battle and unchain monsters to unleash devastating abilities.

PlayStation Plus subscribers get some great updates today as well. You may have seen the news that the Journey Collector’s Edition is coming August 28th. While this amazing package will feature a TON of exclusive content (in game commentary, revealing documentaries, and more) PlayStation Plus members can now snag the core PSN Game Journey with a 20% discount for $11.99. You’ll also see the aforementioned Plus discount on new release Resident Evil: Chronicles HD, for 10% off, as well as 20 free Virtua Fighter 5 avatars to sport on your PSN profile. Note that next week we’ll be talking about the Plus outlook for July, so stay tuned.

  • When will you announce more PSP games for the Vita store?

  • I like the update to the store but I’m wondering where are the Resistance: Burning Skies Avatars you promised last week when I read the post that they would be released on June 25th. I already redeamed my code and I’m not seeing the Avatars on my download list when I loged into my account today.

  • In regards to the MegaMan MH:X stuff asked by #78:
What puzzles me is the response:
“it may not be compatible with PS Vita, only on PSP. So it may not appear on the PS Vita Store if it’s a PSP release that’s not compatible with PS Vita”. – What???

In reply to this response, #134 stated “MegaMan Maverick Hunter X was on the Vita store since launch, now that it is on sale it is no longer compatible?”

    >It has been compatible since day 1 but since everything involving compatibility is unorganized and not entirely known, I can see why Morgan is unsure. Or maybe he simply did not know.
But given said response, I’m becoming more and more hesitant to continue my support for the Vita. As a day 1 owner, it’s been disappointing, especially knowing that the Vita is full of potential. It’s an amazing device which had such a strong set of games for launch.

    I give up.

  • i like this it is cool

  • Youtube App:
Why is it that these “apps” are always released half-baked aka not complete? It accomplishes the main goal – to play videos, but where is everything else Youtube is known for? Is it the guys at Sony handling this or Google? It seems to be the trend with not just the apps, but with everything else including the Vita itself, gaming headsets etc.. Is this how video gaming is going to be in the future with Sony? Releasing unfinished software/hardware? Like most others, I appreciate the effort…I really do. You can’t fool those of us that are tech savvy. I just feel like developers these days are too comfortable knowing that they have the ability to finish products with patches and the like at a later time and would rather prematurely release something that just meets the mark of being functional…but not complete.

I’m sure most will agree that time is a factor in the development process. I’ll spend my entire bank account balance on products that are polished and complete at the cost of a longer wait in release time. Why? Because I’m (and others) are not interested in using something half-baked and watered-down.

I’m not trying to be mean, just feedback.

  • Terrible pricing on the Uncharted games. Should be $19.99 each at the absolute maximum, or just $10-15 for Uncharted 1 since it is OLD and has been a greatest hits forever, and heavily discounted at most shops. I even picked up Uncharted 2 for $10 over a year ago brand new. Was not GOTY edition, but then that’s meaningless since the DLC was given away for free anyway.

  • * An acceptable price would’ve been $14.99 without Plus for Uncharted 1 and $9.99 with Plus. For Uncharted 2, $19.99 without Plus and $14.99 with Plus.

The Steam summer sale is coming and console makes should pay attention to digital distribution prices done right.

  • i thought Jet Set Radio was going to be released today.when will it be coming to PSN ive been waiting on that game for quite sometime now any information when the game is going to be released Morgan?

  • Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo should come to the VIta. It would be a great game on the go.

  • i love the youtube app thank you playstation :D

  • Thank you for the reply.

Knowing this I can’t see any reason I won’t be a plus member for as long as I keep gaming.

  • Question i pre-order Resistance Burning Skies & the pre-order avatars did not show up in my download list i’m just wondering you guys still working on it? cause i would like to use them. Thanks.

  • Morgan, thanks for the reply. Apparently the “patch” was just added to the upgraded demo file, so re-installing was required. There is no prompt to upgrade upon booting the game.

    Anyway, to post #198 (krae_man):

What you speak of is nothing exclusive to PlayStation or even Sony. You can blame the damn internet for the way things are nowadays. It all comes down to the internet. Before the net was so widely available, products such as game consoles, computers, TVs, portable music players, etc. needed to be completely ready before they could be released to the public, other wise, obvious problems would arise. Nowadays, products will be released even while still unfinished and/or “broken” just to build up some revenue in the meantime, while whatever loose ends remain can be fixed with a downloadable patch. And everyone knows this already. Sure it sucks, but it’s just the way it is now, and it’s all because of the internet. Stupid internet. :)

  • Nice youtube app, the videos come in very clear and the menu system is easy to navigate. It’d be nice to be able to visit peoples’ channels though, maybe in a future update?

  • AMAZING UPDATE! LOVE PS VITA YOUTUBE BUT THEM IS GRAND THEFT AUTO PSP GONNA BE AVALIABLE TO DOWNLOAD PLIZ REPILY!!

  • Nice update! I’m tempted to get Journey as I can not wait to get my hands on it. But I suppose I’ll just wait for the blu-ray edition to come out. I missed out on flower and flow so thats way I’ll get 3X the AWESOMNESS!

  • Gotta love how Maverick Hunter X goes on sale and suddenly vanishes from the Vita store. Then he says it may not be Vita compatible like we forgot that it was already on the Vita store from launch. Then we called out on it several times there is not a single word about it. Good job!

  • Has ALPHABETICAL SORTING been added yet?

  • i just want some Dragon Ball avatars

  • Great to see DLC for Gravity Rush, love the catgirl costume :)

Shane I can’t play Unchained Blades on Vita, looking forward to some positive news on that front.

Just Street Fighter XTekken to look forward to now.

  • @214, Maverick Hunter X is still on the store, for me at least.

  • If we could only get…

    Grandia II
    Grandia Xtreme
    Grandia III

    That would be awesome~

  • The-King-OfGames

Why PS+ Get so many things free & us non PS+ get nothing free.Like free games & avatars?I find it bogus

  • I downloaded the Gravity Rush Spy Costume dlc for my Vita, yet it just downloading complete, may I know what should I do to install it? Thank you.

  • Hey Morgan a few thoughts on the new ps+…it is a little boring, i mean you get 12 prem games up front and then it is a snooze fest the rest of the month so here is what i think it should be like:

Week 1 – 3 Prem games, 2 minis, an avatar pac, dynamic theme, free new movie rental

Week 2 – 3 Prem games, psp game, 1 mini

Week 3 – 3 Prem games, vita game ,1 free movie to own

Week 4 – 3 Prem games, dynamic theme, free dlc pac

This way it gives us something to look forward too. Just my thoughts…

  • @ 220 – The-King-OfGames.

    Not entirely true.

If you aren’t PSN +….you are still getting for free, the LBP add on as well as the GT 5 add on this week.

As well, you have free online play.

PSN + is paying a yearly fee….so it’s not entirely free.

Tell me how many other things today are absolutely free ?

  • Xbox Live Marketplace just got The Walking Dead: Episode 2 today. Any chance we’ll finally see it next week, since it wasn’t in this week’s update?

  • not a great discount on Journey, but i’ll finally get it now.

  • darth_soul … they already posted that it will be out this Friday.

  • hey Morgon do you no anything about any games for ps+ members coming out in july the free games we get every month? any word let me know please thanks! gotta know!

  • @thawatchman and everyone else who still seems confused. We are not getting 12 free games every month. There will always be 12 games total available for download. Next month there will still be 12 games available to download, but you will already have about 9 of them. About 3 will be new. I do agree with your premise though that the last 3 weeks have been boring. But if the new 3 games blow me away maybe I can get used to only getting a real PS+ update once a month.

  • Hey, going home next weekend or so is that free playstation plus games thing still going on? and when dose it end?

  • Where is Retro City Rampage already!!!!

  • @222

3 games from the instant collection are leaving at the end of the week. So I am assuming that means 3 new games will be put in for next month.

  • very awesome update its nice to see uncharted 1 and 2 on store but where is the metal gear solid HD collection for PS3 on the store. please morgan if you have any news on that i would appreciate a reply.

  • I purchased the add on Pinball Arcade tables & while they did install to the Vita & play, they have no trophy sets. Haven’t seen that mentioned … then yesterday under the PS3 add ons, I downoaded what I thought was the PS3 version, but only shows up as the Vita versions …. I read the earlier coments as to some patch …. but I have again today attempted to get the PS3 tables – & no luck …. is the trophy set problem unique to me ? do I delete & redownload them to gain trophy support ? the add on content for PS3 is not available to me – what am I doing wrong ? also, as I had paid for them on the Vita, that would be agreat benefit to plus service to just have them automatically downloaded, as they are already paid for … anyway, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ! :-)

  • Unchained Blades looks rather interesting, will be checking that out, although the post for that seems misleading. especially when you said Psp owners take note there is some great content this week, i thought it would have been an update finally packed with content for us portable users, but all we got was 2 more sales. Dont get me wrong had i not own Monster Hunter United, i would totally buy it for 9.99$. Still i will be looking into UB.

The youtube app while most people wanted it i honest see no use for it. i still probably check it out but more than likely will delete it since its rater useless when almost every other electronic device has an app like that, that probably uses it better.

  • @ PHISHMANIAC (not sure if you’ll read this, but ill give it ago)

So because you dont own a Vita means you dont want content for it available from PS+?
I also want to clear something up from an error in your post the “Playstation” in PS+ means anything on the PSN, whats on the PSN? PS3, PSN, PSP, and Vita titles. So no the PS+ shouldnt be only catered to PS3 users, or it would have been called PS3+. Not trying to sound rude or anything, but i dont see how anyone can think that they (PS3 users) should be the only people this service is for, when Sony has other devices to include. it seems like you think if Vita (and i guess psp as well) gets put on means there would be less ps3 content which is obviously not true. All in all i still cant see why anyone would be against that. im an owner of both a ps3, vita, and psp and its sad that for now its only catering towards ps3 users.

I just hope we get something soon. Vita wise is understandable, its still new, but there is no excuse why we havent gotten more psp content for PS+ when its been out for how long 5 years now?

  • As an after thought – just wanted to say how pleased I am with the + perks & services …. it has good value for the gaming $ if you do buy DL content often …. the discounts alone offset my membership cost, so it’s win / win for me ….. I look fwd to the Vita getting some consideration in terms of + perks ….. something like the add on content for Super Stardust being discounted would be nice … when I originally bought it, I had no experience with the game, & then realized I would like the additional content, but would have to pay an extra $7.99 – which seems excessive …. considering the game was $9.99 …. a feature to minus that from the $14.99 & allow me to buy the blast pack for $5 would be appreciated …..

Sure hope LBP Vita drops soon ….. really looking fwd to that. Gravity Rush is very unique & enjoyable – good to have something fresh ….. & for anyone on the fence about Journey – it’s a gaming experience that shouldn’t be missed – it’s like being transported to an alternate universe & experiencing their reality for a spell … I paid full price & it was money well spent !

  • I may be in the minority here, but regarding the timing of the releases of free games for Plus members, I actually prefer the big splash of all games being available at the top of the month.

    Why?

The majority of games I really want I already own, so say for instance (taking this month’s offerings as an example), if inFamous 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, and Ratchet & Clank All 4 One are all being rotated in as the three free games for the month, and I already own LBP2 and R&C, I’d rather not have to wait 2-3 weeks for inFamous 2 to be available as the free game of the week.

People who were disappointed by the Plus offerings during the rest of June, after the 12 free games during the first week, had very unrealistic expectations as to what the rest of the month would bring. Even as a new Plus member, I in no way deluded myself into believing there’d be additional free AAA titles offered this month.

As long as discounts on other content remains strong on a week-to-week basis, I’ll be a happy camper.

  • Is Resistance Retribution going to be put back on store anytime soon? I’d really like to buy that for my Vita.

  • HEY I JUST BROUGHT THE GREATEST HITS DUAL PACK UNCHARTED BRAND NEW FOR 23.00 OFF OF EBAY….I SAVED 17.00 AND 40.Gs of MEMORY!!!!! THANKS PSN FOR THE GREAL DEALS…….

  • @237 Agreed. I imagine releasing the bulk of the games at the beginning of the month streamlines everything on Sony’s end, which makes things run smoother. That’s a win-win for everyone because if things are running better on their end, there is less room for error hitting our end.

I love the idea of getting it all at once. It’s like Christmas every month! And I have the entire month to enjoy them instead of waiting to get them all, and there are still the good deals to look forward to.

Count me as one who believes the new way is a very wise move.

  • if you delete the PS3 pinball & redeownload it, then you get the new tables … it worked 4 me anyway. the new tables aren’t showing in the trophy list, but maybe they will … anyway, just happy to have them on the big screen … they look great !

  • mike6DemonSlayer

No, playstation 2 games again. These updates keep on getting worse and worse, please consider adding MORE ps2 games and maybe the next update can contain star wars battlefront 2… can you reply on what you think

  • When will some of the older games come to PSN, such as:

Mirror’s Edge, Enslaved, Fallout 3 GOTY, Fallout New Vegas, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Vanquish, Asura’s Wrath, Skyrim, Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden 2, Singularity, Shadows of the Damned, Soul Calibur 4, BlazBlue CS, The Darkness, Lost Planet 1 and 2, Bayonetta, Chronicles of Riddick, Transformers WFC, Bioshock 1, Devil May Cry 4, to name a few.

These are in no particular order. Save for Asura’s Wrath, the other games listed above are already available on Xbox 360, some for over 2 years now via their Games on Demand section.

Can we get any type of timeframe as to when these aforementioned games will be released on PSN?

  • Please don’t forget Twisted Metal, as you have stated, your longest running franchise. It is only just over a four month old game and deserves your full support. Again avatars would be a good start.

Twisted Metal PS3 is still among the best games on the PS3 game play wise and deserves more support:
    http://www.groubal.com/twisted-metal-dlc-from-eat-sleep-play-and-sony/

  • UNCHARTED Greatest Hits Dual Pack ($39.99)??? WHAT? I can pick this up [on disc][save hd space] for $29.99 at my local Walmart. Why is it $10 more for digital???

  • Yeah!!! Uncharted on the PSN!
I’ve been waiting a long time for this.

Oh, but they’re at 30$ each..
Humm, kinda steep for the first Uncharted, a game released in 2007. (Yeah, we’re in 2012, It’s been 5 years already)
Maybe you may want to adjust the price accordingly? Uncharted 1 doesn’t have a multi-player.
I would have price Uncharted 1 at 20$ regular, 15$ for plus members. (or 12.50$)
And placed Uncharted 2 at 25$ for regular, 20$ for plus members. (or 22.50$)

And each games are a whopping 20Gb+ each!
    It’s makes my new 750Gb look puny… ;) ;./ hehe.
A lot of people won’t have the hdd place for this. But I know that Uncharted 2 is Awesome.
The 40$ Dual Pack released last year might just be the best offering.

    I’m watching my spending lately.

Yeah, you’re right, I’d love to get in facebook:
-The ability to save picture. (Not just pressing PS button + Start)
    -Have a search list/engine.
-Be able to visit personality or business accounts (Like PlayStation)
At least have thoses basic functions.
But, you can still access the full version of Facebook on your browser.
Unless you get a bug from the Facebook server’s saved cookies and automatically transfers you to the cheap @$$ mobile version, then you’re screwed.
