PlayStation All-Stars EVO Reveal: Heihachi and Toro

This weekend the SuperBot team and I are here in Las Vegas at the annual Evolution Championship Series. In addition to checking out some of the best fighting games in the community and the heated competition between the fans, we’re also here to make a very special announcement. Tonight during an Exhibition Presentation, we are excited to announce two new challengers in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale – Heihachi Mishima and Toro Inoue!

Hailing from the ever-popular Tekken series, the original mastermind behind the Mishima Zaibatsu joins the battle! Making his first appearance on the PSX in 1995, Heihachi is one of only five characters to appear in every iteration of Tekken thereafter, brawling his way through 17 years of King of Iron Fist tournaments. Heihachi fans will feel right at home with this newest interpretation.

Familiar moves such as his Electric Wind God Fist and Twin Pistons are intact and as deadly as ever. He excels at close-range combat, overwhelming opponents with quick, powerful strikes. Heihachi’s combo potential ranks among the best in the roster, turning every encounter into a stylish martial arts exhibition. Though the battlefield has changed, Heihachi brings his signature fighting style and brutal attacks to PlayStation All-Stars!

Toro Inoue, also known as the Sony Cat, has been a faithful mascot to Sony in Japan for over a decade! He has made appearances in numerous video games spanning several different Sony consoles and is a welcome addition to our roster. Though appearing to be simply a cute feline, the warrior within proves to be as formidable as the next.

Toro brings a unique stance-based fighting style to PlayStation All-Stars, affording him several different sets of attacks to utilize in combat. He transitions seamlessly from a close-range fighter in his Justice form, to a ranged specialist in his Torobi form, to an effective wide-area controller in his Oni form. All the while, Toro’s fun-loving charm comes through in every action he performs. Be sure to check him out!

Finally, we are pleased to announce our newest stage, Dojo! Fans of the original Parappa the Rapper on the PSX will immediately recognize this kung-fu dwelling, which is where Parappa originally acquired his martial arts arsenal from Chop Chop Master Onion. However, not everything is as it seems in the city; could danger be looming ahead?

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Toro & Heihachi reveal

For those of you who are here in Vegas participating in the tournaments, you can now go hands-on with these new characters at our booth in the Tournament Hall starting Saturday morning when the booth opens at 8AM. So be sure to swing by.

That’s it for now! We have plenty more information coming in the near future, so stay tuned for more reveals to come as we get closer to October 23, 2012! Don’t forget to pre-order your copy!

  • Heihachi lol, i remember having lots of trouble back in the days trying to defeat him in Tekken 1!

<—- Bring him too along Albert Wesker, Wesker got some epic martial art skills!

    Make it happen! ;D

  • That’s nice:) Now I hope you can include famous anime characters, like Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece and Uzumaki Naruto from Naruto Shippuuden.

  • i want cole!

  • The game’s website is down… again. Does this mean the Comic-Con update/reveals are almost here?

  • XxDG3K_ALL_DAYxX

YOU MUST PUT IN JAK AND DAXTER SONY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALSO RATCHET,CLANK,SPYRO MANY MORE!!!! and will there be a public beta for this??

  • I’m getting a little bit scared by the lack of female characters, I hope the radio between M:F won’t be too large, And even tough the glorious Cake-filled Fat Princess is incredibly awesome Sony has many places to pick female fighters like Coco Bandicoot (Crash), Kat (Gravity Rush), Ellen (Folklore) and the Legendary Lara Croft plus many FF characters (if they can).

  • Add Pyramid Head and Leon Kennedy please!

  • OK….. so where are all the female fighters?

Here is a little list all of them were on PSX (US & JP)

    1. Aya Brea (Parasite Eve)
    2. Regina (Dino Crisis)
    3. Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
    4. Tifa ( FF VII)
    5. Ayame (Dead Or Alive)
    6. Hinata (Rival Schools)
    7. Android 18 ( DB Ultimate Battle 22)

    They also need a vampire

    1. Alucard ( Castlevania)
    2. Demitri Maximoff (Darkstalkers)
    3. Cole Macgrath (Festival Of Blood)

A SNK character would be also nice.

Will this game be released on digital format? If so would it include the DLC?

    Please let me know!

  • THIS game is looking to be great i all ready pre ordered it Heihachi is an amazing add same with toro and i sawe how u guys did the rivalrey it looks really good and the combo system look superb keep up the good work superboot

  • Toro Inoue looks like a fun character to use.

  • well I was hoping they’d pick some interesting characters. this counts

    • Yeah Toro is a beast. One of the guys here at the office has a really impressive Toro. That level 2 super is dangerous!

  • Kanon_of_Gemini

You know what we need?, we need Ezio /or/ Altair /or/ Connor, and Snake /or/ Big Boss, and maybe Cloud from FF7 but that one is hard to get.

  • Ethan Mars from Heavy Rain and SORA from KINGDOM HEARTS or RIKU if you add SORA or RIKU I can guarantee than more people will buy this game i plan on buying it but sora i would preorder like 5 copies… KINGDOM HEARTS was a huge roll on ps2 all around the world PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Add SORA strike raid could be like a lvl 1 or 2 move! :)

  • i have a list of characters that would make this games roster complete sackboy, kat from gravity rush, the guy from journey, the guy from sorcery, goopher from little deviants, the guy from the last of us,snake from metal gear solid and leon s. kennedy from resident evil

  • I’m slightly worried about the melee in this game. We need at least one more character like Colonel Radec and more mixed characters, because right now I feel as if at least 75% of them focus on melee.

And I honestly can’t wait for tomorrow (Thursday). Congratulations, PSASBR, you’ve stolen my attention (And soon my money :P). Here’s to hoping that Caesar from White Knight Chronicles and Cole MacGrath from InFamous are revealed.
Caesar because, though he is melee, he’d be somewhat unique due to his spear (And it’d save the developers from having to choose which weapon Leonard would be wielding), and he is still a knight. The only problem I can see is that he isn’t really an All-Star, Leonard is.
If you really need me to explain why Cole MacGrath needs to be in this, then you’re out of your mind. One of the most unique PS3-Exclusive characters ever. I just hope that he DOESN’T have the amp normally, instead summoning it for a special (And an Ionic move as the final), and is focussed on a mid-ranged basis, in order to balance the melee a little.

And please reveal a new stage. I crave them just as much as characters, and I still want to see a Castle That Never Was stage from Kingdom Hearts.

  • And I don’t like the look of Toro and Heihachi’s Tier 3 super. Killing the whole screen for a cinematic experience isn’t something I like (Unless it had been implemented from the start, in which case it would be fine). They can still be awesome and be in the battle (Look at Sweet Tooth!), and it makes it possible to get more kills than “Okay, you’ve built up your meter to 3. Here’s three kills.” I seriously hope that that is changed, before even more characters end up like that.

Why couldn’t Heihachi launch a rocket at a portion of the screen to explode instead? Or why couldn’t Toro Inoue charge in-game? It takes the level of strategy and skill from choosing carefully where to use your moves away, IMO. Please fix this Superbot, because I’m certain that watching those cinematics will eventually get old (Okay, I get it, could you hurry up and kill me?), while seeing Sweet Tooth transform into the mecha (Oh dang! Run! RUN!) most likely won’t, as the action of the players is included in it, and it is much shorter.

Sorry for the double post, but there is no edit button.

  • Yo! What’s up Playstation Blog!?

I hope you guys enjoyed our character/stage reveals the past weekend. EVO was crazy! Big thanks to everyone who came out to support and play Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. We received a ton of valuable feedback from players all weekend long, and it was sick to see people finally getting their hands on Heihachi and Toro for the first time on Saturday.

Speaking of Saturday, we had a panel discussion regarding the game complete with a Q&A and videos. In case you missed it, we’ll be uploading a few of the videos from the panel on our Youtube page shortly. This includes our first combo video, which got a great response at the panel. Glad people enjoyed it.

Don’t forget to check us out this weekend at Comic-Con! We’re doing a few more character reveals (!) and another panel. If you plan on attending Comic-Con, our panel is on Sunday, July 15 (11am to 12pm) – Room 24ABC. SuperBots that will be on the panel include Chan Park (SuperBot President) and Omar Kendall (Game Director), with Greg Miller moderating.

Hope to see you guys there!

  • Just watched the evo panel from the twitch archives, I was already excited but it just made me even more excited. Was hoping to see Ryu instead of Heihachi because I’m a street fighter player, hopefully one of Toros stances is shoto, look forward to hearing more about those stances. The rivalry clip was awesome and excites me for the single player mode which I usually just skip in a fighting game. Also loves you guys addressing major complaints like no life bars or the smash bros. comparisons/complaints. I get it and am excited about the unique things this game is introducing but I know a lot of people are more skeptical about it. I’ve had a hard time convincing people why this game is gonna be amazing but your panel did a good job of that! excited to see more of this and already pre-ordered my copy.

  • Hey i just have a question, since i will be not at home on Sunday is there anyway i can watch the panel after?

Also, are the reveals during the panel or before hand?
