The Drop: Week of July 23rd 2012 New Releases

Coming to PS3 this week, adidas miCoach brings the popular miCoach interactive athletic training system to the PlayStation 3. Many of the world’s most well-known adidas athletes are featured in the game, including Dwight Howard, Kaká, Tyson Gay, Jessica Ennis, Ana Ivanović and Eric Berry, and they will guide users through a wide selection of sport-specific personalized training programs.

On PSN, experience a brilliantly designed physics-based puzzle/platform game where you must guide a puddle of fluid to its target destination, not by moving the fluid, but by tilting the game world in Puddle for PS Vita. Foosball 2012 brings an unparalleled level of connectivity between PS3 and PS Vita, supporting cross play, gameplay continuation and offering both the PS3 and PS Vita versions together, for a price of a single game. All this and more on this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

adidas miCoach — Users will receive real-time feedback on their actual in-game performance during their workouts when wearing a miCoach heart rate monitor (or any ANT+ compatible monitor).

For an even more connected gaming experience, the miCoach hardware interacts with the game, allowing users to wirelessly synchronize a miCoach Pacer and miCoach mobile app to their game console, incorporating workout data gathered while away from the game. Utilizing advanced video game console technology, users will be able to create profiles, set fitness goals and get instant analyses of workout regimens. They will choose from several sports, such as running, tennis, football (soccer), American football and basketball, as well as the athletes who guide them through hours of on-screen training and motivating game experiences.

PlayStation Network

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes — Heroes from the DC Universe join up with the Caped Crusader to root out evil in LEGO Batman 2: Super Heroes. The Dynamic Duo of Batman and Robin join other famous super heroes from the DC Universe including Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern to save Gotham City from destruction at the hands of the notorious villains Lex Luthor and the Joker. Batman fans of all ages will enjoy a new and original story filled with classic LEGO videogame action and humor as players fight to put the villains back behind bars.

Malicious — In the action game Malicious, you are a “Spirit Vessel,” called into the world by the Prophets to vanquish evil. Armed with the “Mantle of Cinders,” a cloak that can absorb power from destroyed objects as well as shift form, you wage battle with the “Malicious.”
Rather than crawling through lengthy dungeons to find and defeat enemies, this game gives you the power to select whichever stage you want and jump directly into epic boss battles in whatever order you please. Upon defeating each boss, you’ll absorb its power to obtain new and unique abilities, so the choice is yours as to how you’ll progress. In the end, however, you have one goal — prepare to face the ultimate evil, Malicious!

Puddle (PS Vita) — The player must work with friction, momentum, and the unique properties of each type of fluid and environment to send as much of each puddle past fires, rifts, potential spills and more. But watch out: the fluid motion is realistic!

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City — Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third person team based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe and a reinterpretation of the events depicted in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W’s) add to the mix as players not only compete against an opposing squad but also tackle this third unpredictable element, creating a brand new style of gameplay and breaking the conventions of traditional team based shooters.

Foosball 2012 (PS3 and PS Vita w/ PS Move Support) — Enjoy one of the most popular sports in the world from the comfort of your home on PS3, or enjoy it anywhere on PS Vita and challenge your friends in a local multiplayer for up to four players and online multiplayer and leaderboards. With support for optional single-or double-controller PlayStation Move play (standard DualShock control is also featured) allowing for tight and fast gameplay control, Foosball 2012 is the supreme experience for table soccer fans.

    Unsupervised child.

  • @Enigma2010:

There are better things you can be doing than spamming a forum with nothing.

  • How much ya wanna bet RE: ORC is over $40 on PSN? There will be many fits of laughter.

  • @Sevyne:

And fits of anger. Still, cannot deny the act of charging near retail price. I use the word “near,” as both physical and digital retailers can run specials to drive up sales of their product. Sony could post the digital at, say, $35.99, while a retailer like Target could have it at $49.99, then have it on sale for $19.99 to sell through copies.

Tis a curse of the gaming world, though if you do your homework, you, the consumer, can come out on the side of your wallet.

Though I do like these PS+ bonuses on sales like this past week…

  • @herbalsticky:

    No problem!

  • @ Enigma2010

As for the Dawnguard question, the 30 days exlusive doesn’t end until the 26th so the earliest drop that we would see it on a Tuesday would be next week not this week.

  • Malicious is supposed to come out for the Vita too, I was hoping they would get released on the same day :(. We really need more Vita releases. I know it’s summer, but even so, I want to know that this fall is going to be jam-packed with good titles. Assassin’s Creed Liberation is the lone stand out… (Sly and Allstars I will get on the PS3).

  • Last week of boredom until the new release season kicks off next week with Sleeping Dogs.

  • Yeah Im aware of that. Just wishful thinking on my part. Do you think Dawnguard will release next next Tuesday? thats on the 31st?

  • riteaidslackey. sorry I thought i was replying to you individually. So between 0-100%, do you think Dawnguard will release on the 31st?

  • Nothing to my liking with what was mention here so far, hoping the full list on Tuesday has some great stuff.

  • Also I apologise to everyone for my nephew. I got up to answer the phone and apparently he had some fun on this blog.

  • @Enigma2010:

Depends on what the publisher and Sony’s uploaders work out. Ideally it should be at the earliest moment, but licensing issues do have a tendency to crop up. The good thing is that it is coming. Could be worse; could be getting the same news that hopeful fans of Final Fantasy XIII Versus got late last week.

  • chris_tane you mean Watch Dogs right?

  • Mikaa1701: I hear ya.Sad and relieving at the same time for Versus XIII.oh well it probably would have been like XIII or worse. I did see on a blog the other day where Pete Hines quoted- “I didnt say anything about the other consoles” when asked about dawnguards release. i hope that was faked. Cause what that would mean….

  • (rage building inside)

  • This has to be the only company that doesn’t support its own hardware. People want to know when psone games are coming they have nothing to say. People want more psp titles (that don’t cost an arm and leg after being out for years already) they have no answer. Why make the system if they won’t back it. disappointing

  • i wish they would have told me when i first got the vita that i paid $300 for a device they will barely support so i could gotten my money backthen.

  • RE: ORC: is described as “creating a brand new style of gameplay and breaking the conventions of traditional team based shooters.”

I can name one convention of team based shooters it breaks… being in any way fun.

  • @61, yep, this exclusive period is unavoidable. The PC base is waiting for Dawnguard too.

@67, ouch. I have it, but did not open the game yet. I guess I should expect the worst, haha.

  • The_4th_Hokage_X

i took a look at the UK psn store today for the first time.. i gotta say, i could not be more disappointed and upset about the _____ ( enter horrible word ) support the U.S. is getting.. uk has 70+ ps2 classics and not to mention they already have the ratchet and clank collection PLUS they are able to pre order different editions ( silver, gold, ect) for Assassins creed 3…i could not be more unsatisfied with wat they are offering in this “GREAT” country…

  • anyone now anything about dawnguard??

  • Going to agree with some people here. not a good update, but i assume it will be like last week and have a bunch of sales/deals. Although the 2 Vita titles seem interesting, i probably wont be buying it this week. I will say though that Operation Raccoon City is a great game.

  • @Darkthorn77:

Sadly, gaming history is full of companies that did not support their systems. One of the most infamous was Atari of the early 1990s, where they hyped up their Lynx portable and their 64-bit Jaguar systems, yet never really delivered for them. Another would be Tiger Electronics, who barely tried with their Game.com (though they got some serious licenses, though they wasted them). NEC/HudsonSoft’s TurboGraphix 16/Duo/Express didn’t fare much better post-1990.

To Sony’s credit, they actually are supporting more than some systems (heck, the launch lineup was far more diverse than the 3DS’s was at its launch). Then again, considering the lack of support for the PSP before it, it does feel like the new-age Jaguar: all hype about its power, yet only a handful of good games…

  • @rttgff:

Never easy being an early adoptor. Still, remember that it took the 3DS most of its first year to get anything unique or worthwhile for its lineup (Super Mario 3D Land didn’t show up until November, and the eStore and Virtual Console didn’t show up until over a month after launch).

While most of the Vita games announced thus far are basically PS3 hand-me-downs/ports, a few unique gems are bound to show up to give a unique experiance for the system. And do not forget that there are many great PSP/Minis/(PSOne?) games to tide you over while waiting for those great games.

  • @Enigma2010:

Unless there is a license issue (namely some wierd exclusivity clause that hasn’t been brought up) or development reason (glitches, etc), I cannot see why they wouldn’t bring it over if it was financially feasable. Just have to give it time.

  • @iTofuMan:

I hope there are more sales like last week. Still tempted by the special on Hot Shots Golf Vita, and would love to see more markdowns for full Vita “retail” games (Ultimate MvC3 or Rayman Origins anyone?). And a few PSP sales wouldn’t be bad (looking at you, Jack and Daxter PSP).

  • XMB ALPHABETICAL SORTING OF OUR DIGITAL GAMES IN A FUTURE UPDATE PLEAAAAAAAAZE!

It is ridiculous that the PS3 does not have this feature. Does the PS3 not have the tech to display our PSN games alphabetically? What gives? Do your programmers not know how to make alphabetical sorting possible or something? Inept employees? Is that the answer?

  • I just want Brave Fencer Musashi for my vita. ;(

  • @cynicalnerd opinions differ. good games to some aren’t to all.
@herbalsticky some like the older games, and doesn’t mean they’re stupid.

  • @Enigma2010

Not sure about Dawnguard, really wish it was 100 but probably more like 47.

  • I’ll be picking up Malicious for sure. Action game fans should definitely pick this up. Don’t skip out on this game fans of the action genre!

Anyway, this week in imports has some stuff to note.

For PS3 there’s a port of Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce 2 (never released in English), a new Macross Hybrid pack, and some neat PS3 accessories. Such as some new colors for the existing turbo pad, and a new iteration of the Liquid Crystal Monitor screen for PS3 (supports HDMI this time).

The Vita is getting nothing notable, but the PSP is getting lots of stuff. PSP is getting a humongous amount of visual novels, and Trails of Nayuta.

Hope you enjoyed reading the import list for this week.

  • @Mikka: just to let you know, you would probably like jak and daxter psp, (i personally have it) it will take as much time as you want to give it (in a good way).
as for the drop: gald that the vita actually got something. its been FOREVEEER! foreveer… forever.

  • @56: Nope. Malicious REBIRTH is coming to PS Vita. :P And it’s not even out in Japan yet… not that it matters, that version isn’t confirmed for localization. Though I hope that version comes over, because it’s the only one I care about now. >_>;

@65: lolololololol, after @4 I didn’t think I’d laugh so hard at anything posted here. Congratz~

  • @69: Yeah, I was going through the Japanese and Europe stores yesterday and was like… :/

    Made me sad.

  • Pretty disappointed that summer is half over and there’s still no word on ps1 classics for vita. Puddle looks like a pretty interesting game though, I’ll definitely check it out

  • You know Resident Evil: O is going to be 60 bucks.

  • Nice Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes now I don’t have to buy a dam disc and box!

  • For those of you wondering about Dawnguard, it is as an earlier poster said, X has a 30 day exclusive. There has been no announcement for the PS3 or PC versions as of yet, leading to much complaining on the Bethesda forum.

I’ve already finished DG & it has been pretty buggy for many players. Just as the PS3 version of Skyrim is famous for glitches, it continues with the DLC. So just be aware that depending on how you play the game, whether you choose to be a vampire, werewolf or not, & who your follower is, you may run into some problems. I advise you finish the main quest first & keep a system of saves.

  • Still no PS1 support for the Vita. Definitely gonna try out the puddle game though.

  • My heart feel sad this week …Crappy update.

  • There hasnt been a good psn release in forever. Releasing ps3 games that are already out is completely lame. Sony needs to desperately step up the game on the digital market. Lame PSN updates week after week after week….

  • Hey everybody, I’m going to post a message and put you all down, then like a 2 yr old I’m going to tell you I’m not going to come back to see replies, but then check back every hour on the hour because in reality. “He has nothing better to really do!” The only thing worse then the complainers are the wanna be complainers complaining about the complainers. Grow up already!!!

  • Will there be DLC for D&D Daggerfall? And what’s new for PPlus members?

  • Where’s Zen Pinball 2 for PS3? And Pinball arcade DLC? :)

  • I remember reading that we would have a demo for the Foosball game. But now I don’t see any demo here in the Drop whats up with that????

Also where is my Zen Pinball 2 I cant wait anymore.

  • I’m kind of bummed there isn’t a demo for Rainbow Moon out tomorrow. I may just purchase it (along with many others from what I’ve read in the posts) if I like the demo. Any news on the demo release date?

    Thankssssssssss

  • YouFromTheFuture

And for those looking for full ps1/psp support … It’ll come via the cloud. You heard it here first…

*is patiently waiting to see what the PS+ discounts are going to be*

  • Ya Know maybe they should put down everything that should be coming tomorrow

  • Maybe even tell us which games are getting updated
