The Creatures of Darksiders II Welcome Death

We’ve just released the first all-gameplay trailer for Darksiders II, which sees the most feared of the horseman of the apocalypse, Death, going up against some of the creatures from the game. The Ancient. The Corrupted. The Holy. The Damned… Death comes for all.

The trailer shows off several key characters from the game, but we wanted to provide additional context as the game marches towards its August 14th release date.

Death
Like his fellow Horsemen, Death is of a race known as Nephilim – among the most powerful beings in the Universe. When mankind received the prize of Eden, Absalom – leader of the Nephilim – led his armies against Heaven and Hell in an attempt to steal it back. For this crime, the Charred Council condemned the Nephilim to destruction. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were granted a reprieve from this fate on the condition they aid the Council’s victory over their kin. The Horsemen accepted, but it was Death who bore the greatest burden of guilt for the near extinction of his race. Donning his iconic mask to represent his role as executioner on the day he slaughtered his brethren, he has not removed it since.

Dust
Death’s trusty sidekick is a bird of unknown origins, neither living nor dead. Dust will aid Death as he navigates the treacherous dungeons and explores the expansive overworld of Darksiders II.

Despair
Despair is Death’s loyal steed. Unlike the first Darksiders’ Ruin, players will have access to their mount near the beginning of the game. This will give them the power early on to use Despair’s combat abilities in open spaces, and to travel faster between different areas in the overworld.

Crowfather
Dark and mysterious, the Crowfather is a keeper of secrets. Like all things pertaining to the Crowfather, his race and origin are a mystery—though some believe him to be Nephilim as the Horsemen are. The Crowfather is sagely, lacking in patience and humour, but possessed of an ancient wisdom and knowledge of things forgotten… or best forgotten. Though he resembles an old weathered crone, the Crowfather’s mastery of arcane arts makes him a powerful force. His crow minions are fiercely protective, giving their very lives to strengthen his magic, or to defend against any threat.

Maker Elder
The oldest of the Old Ones, the Elder is withdrawn and contemplative. He moves and speaks slowly, with great wisdom and a sense of inner peace. As time progresses, his tone begins to reflect great sorrow. He has seen the end of all things, and knows that the march toward this inescapable fate has already begun. Death’s appearance in their world is unexpected, however, and the Elder sees it as an omen — or at the very least, an unexpected wrinkle that may change the course of fate.

Darksiders II comes to PlayStation 3 on August 14th in the US.

  • ps vita just dont get nun no more and this the 1st year

  • GalatasarayEken:

The game follows a parallel story with Darksiders 1. In Darksiders 1, someone jumpstarted the apocalypse and blamed it on the Horseman of War, and he’s trying to find out who and why. In this one, the Horseman of Death is investigating what’s happened in a different realm, and that’s why you’ll go to all these crazy looking areas. That’s the short story, anyway.

If I’m not mistaken, it’s more of a hub world than freeroam. Meaning there are four different parts of the world, and you can travel to either of them. In Darksiders 1 it was all connected and you could travel anywhere if you had access to the area (sort of like how you uncover more and more of the map in GTA), but you could also fast travel to each part of the map with a teleport sort of thing. So to answer your question, if it’s anything like Darksiders 1, it’s free roam but you’re going to prefer using fast travel. You can also think of it sort of like Diablo – You can follow the main story and do side quests, and you can always go back.

  • @1

You should most def pick this game up. If you play one 3rd party game this year, make it Darksiders 2. You will not be disappointed. It has all the action, questing, story, varied combat, varied traversal, loot, upgrading, and exploration you could ever ask for out of a game! Do yourself a favor and do not let this one pass you by.

  • Awesomesauce!

  • Let me start off by thanking both Tarkess and RenderMonk for answering politely, Thank You.

I love quest games that have a story mode feel into it , but the problem is that I had never played Darksiders 1 so I dont really know what im going to do about it anyone want to let me in on some details please :P sorry for asking so much details.

  • @GalatasarayEken

If you want a full on, thorough explanation of the plot, wikipedia has a pretty good summary of it ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darksiders#Plot ). I don’t think knowing the story of Darksiders 1 is integral to Darksiders 2, but there are supposedly references in there to D1, meaning your experience will probably be better if you know the story of D1.

As for the gameplay, think Zelda with a more mature and serious feel combined with some God of War-ish combat. This game has, like Rendermonk said, questing, varied combat, loot, upgrading and exploration. I hope that’s a good enough summary for ya.

  • @ Mike Richardson

Can you make more CE of the game so I can buy one from THQ store? :D

  • Now this a series that i haven’t got into but yet i’m interested to get into now.

  • I will get it on release just because THQ is in a bad spot right now, i bought Darksiders a while back and its a great game, its also long i have like 15 hours and barely defeated Tiamat, so if i get it i wont open it until i finish the 1st one. I also picked up WarHammer 40k SpaceMarines also a good game, the only thing i dislike about THQ is that they have garbage graphics but dont really mind since their games are great.

  • I was born in the year 1912.

  • I have salivated about this game since I watched the other 3 horsemen plummet to Earth at the end of D1. We need to keep THQ going if only for this one series. Anyone scanning online to get hype about the game, do not let those who accuse this of being a rip off of other great games discourage you. It does share ideas, but this gives us one game with facets of the greatest games combined. Its kinda like waking up one day to realize your a millionaire, married to the hottest girl on the planet, and just saved a bunch of money on car insurance all in one day.

  • Samael, the baddest mo-fo in the underworld and my favorite character from the first game.

glad he is back for part 2. It looks as Death fights Samael this time around. OH NOEZ!!!

  • Can’t wait for this game!!!!

  • pure epicness! [:3

  • honestly this is already in my top 10 for 2012, i cant wait- got my CE preordered!

  • This is one of my most anticipated games this year! Darksiders 1 was amazing and I hope this one deliver too.

  • I’ve had this pre-ordered for a while now and completely paid off about a month ago. Just counting down the days now. Risen 2 is just filler until Darksiders 2 comes out and wrenches my attention away from everything else. This is going to be awesome!

  • Have this preordered and paid off. Can’t wait! I’ve needed something all summer and this is gonna be the game that ends my new game drought.
