PSN Maintenance Scheduled for Tonight

Matthew Harper's Avatar + Posted by Matthew Harper on Aug 01, 2012 // Sr. Manager, PlayStation Digital Platforms

It’s been a great week for gamers on the PSN. We’ve seen the addition of the anime streaming service Crunchyroll to the PS3 lineup of video apps, the highly anticipated game Sound Shapes being made available for preorder through the PSN PLAY event at a 20% discount for PlayStation Plus subscribers, and The Expendables 2: The Videogame releasing on the PlayStation Store now (check out the demo to get a taste of this game’s explosive four-player co-op action!)

To ensure that we can keep offering you the best online games experience, we will be performing routine maintenance on the PSN this evening (Thursday, August 2nd). This maintenance will start at approximately 12:00am midnight Pacific Time (1:00am MDT / 2:00am CDT /3:00 am EDT) and last for about two hours, ending around 2:00am PDT on Thursday, August 2nd (3:00am MDT / 4:00am CDT / 5:00am EDT). During this maintenance period you WILL be able to sign in to the Network if you have signed in at some point over the past few days. So please be sure to sign in now if you wish to access PSN during this maintenance window. Online play and apps will function as expected during this time. The PlayStation Store and Account Management will be unavailable for the duration of this maintenance.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your support.

This post is confusing.

So the maintainance is already over?

2am PST on Aug 2nd was about 11 hours ago, which is the listed end time, but I was able to use these features last night.

I see that more than a few mentioned having concerns when syncing their trophies. What StealthBlade98 mentioned about syncing more, rather than less trophies will take take longer seems to be the norm. Keep in mind that this wiill also take a while if you are signing into a new console with your PSN account as you are gathering info on all the previously owned trophies not just the few that were newly earned.

@51 As long as you signed into the PSN the past couple of days you could still use the online MP function or just sign in without issues. And yes this was started at 12am pacific time so naturally it ended at 3 am pacific time

i think it needs a lot of maintence because the chat rooms were kicking people out of it, it was very frustrating getting kicked while chatting strategy on a game -_-

@herbalsticky,

I know that. It’s a point that we the users pay their bills. Seeing the financial report for the last quarter they need as many users as possible. Doing maintenance is required, but telling people it happens so that they may schedule their downtime helps to keep the masses coming back to your product.

This is only 2 hours so it’s not as bad as an all day maintenance.

And I have the other systems, thank you for asking.

@boomstickbhg,

Yep, it’s over and done. More to my point about notice of maintenance. They told us about it about 6 hours before they did it.

“It’s been a great week for gamers on the PSN”

I traded my Vita in for non-Sony devices. So yeah, it has been a great week.

Since no one at Sony is willing to comment on the Vita at all, I think it’s safe to say that there is no reason to expect anything from that system.

At least the Nintendo and Microsoft groups give a nod to the frustrated users occasionally.

Well I can confirm this update has done nothing for the PSN Text Based Chat problems.

Mathew Harper – can you please give this message to the wizards on Sony that PSN Text Based chat or PSN in general has been buggy/glitchy that people are getting randomly kicked from the chats for no reason. It’s extremely hard to chat with people for strategy or just to chat and have a discussion. This is important and needs immediate ASAP attention, our gaming or network experience hasn’t been great since this started this week.

When will PlayStation Mobile come out? I know it’s unrelated.

@58: As if anything they say would register.

Since you’re oblivious to all the other stuff that’s going on with it. Otherwise, you’d know there’s plenty coming later this year. Going pretty much like the 3DS’ went. It hit it’s stride later in it’s first year of release too.

you should be able to re-download the map pack? Other than that the maintenance didn’t do anything noticeable for me.
