Sack it to Me: LittleBigProgressive Create Contest Begins Tomorrow

Last year we released a special LittleBigPrius level which formed the basis for a popular creation contest. The level was very well-received and has been played more than 300,000 times to date! The winning contest entry, Prius_Eco Adventure, became an Mm Pick and has been played over 88,000 times — pretty cool, right?

Now we’re back again with another custom level and contest, courtesy of our friends at Progressive Insurance. You might have downloaded the free Flo mod, kart, and track content for ModNation Racers, but now everyone’s favorite raven-haired, red lipstick and apron wearing spokeswoman is coming to LittleBigPlanet. It seems that those two salesmen from “A. Nother Insurance Company” have attempted to steal Flo’s bundler tool, with unexpected results!

This level is the focal point of a “Create Your Own Level” contest, which officially begins tomorrow. Play our “LittleBigProgressive” level to collect prize bubble items, and use them to create your own Progressive-inspired level. When you publish your level to the world, be sure to name it “Pro [Your level name here…]” so that it will be easy for everyone to find.

Make sure you get your level built and published prior to the conclusion of the contest at midnight on Tuesday, September 4th. That’s when our judges will take a closer look at the 10 most popular levels, as determined by the LittleBigPlanet community. We’ll judge these levels based upon originality, quality/polish, Progressive brand awareness, and use of the items obtained from our “LittleBigProgressive” level. From these finalists, we’ll pick a Grand Prize winner who will receive a PlayStation 3, a PlayStation Vita with a 4GB memory card, and copies of LittleBigPlanet Karting and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, as well as both the PS3 and PS Vita versions of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as soon as the game is released. Our four Second Place winners will receive a PS Vita with a 4GB memory card and a copy of LittleBigPlanet PS Vita. That’s a whole lot of gaming goodness right there! The full contest details can be found here.

The Perseids Costume Returns!

To celebrate the annual return of the Perseids Meteor Shower to our night’s sky, we are re-releasing the Perseids Costume for LittleBigPlanet this week.

This rather dazzling costume is free, and will only be available for one week!

Sack it to Me 8-6-2012

Be sure to head on over to the Store later this week to pick up this rather special costume for your Sackperson before it’s too late. Otherwise — much like the Perseids Meteor Shower itself — you will have to wait until next year for it to return.

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita Release Date Announced

Just in case you missed the news, last week we announced that Sackboy’s upcoming portable adventure will be released September 25th in North America!

That means that in just seven weeks, you will be able to join Sackboy on his amazing journey as explores the exciting new world of Carnivalia.

LittleBigPlanet Karting Beta Recap

On July 10th, the LittleBigPlanet Karting Beta opened its doors to the world, and for three weeks both fans and newcomers alike had the opportunity to experience LBP Karting for themselves. With nearly 350 levels published every day and over 125,000 total participants, the LBP Karting Beta was extremely successful and we again would like to thank everyone involved for their participation and feedback.

For those of you who didn’t get to play, we’d like to take this opportunity to share a sampling of some of the most impressive creations that were crafted using LBP Karting’s incredibly deep 3D Create tools. To check out the rest, take a peek at our full Beta recap, which was posted on the Playstation.Blog earlier this week.

  • That contest is so cool… but I will don´t join for school reasons…

One question: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will be on PSN Store? P-L-E-A-S-E XD

    • Hi Everyone

Apologies for the confusion surrounding the LittleBigProgressive competition, it was never our intention to provide everyone with Prize Bubbles that contained DLC and therefore required the purchase of that DLC to be able to collect.

So we had to take down the level temporarily whilst we fixed the offending items and have now re-published the level. The level should now contain no Prize Bubbles that require DLC to collect.

For anyone interested in the competiton, you can now find the LittleBigProgressive level here:
      http://lbp.me/v/dky80b

Good luck to everyone that enters!

  • You have GOT to be kidding me…. KEEP YOUR STINKING ADVERTISING OUT OF MY GAMES!! I hate those commercials, anyway. Actually, I hate ALL commercials. That’s why I don’t watch TV anymore. You LBP people are a bunch of sell-outs!

  • Will everyone who was in the LBPK beta get the beta vest? And if so can we use it in LBP2?

  • @2 ….You can always just not play it lol. The Prius level didn’t get in the way of anything. It’s harmless, it’s not like there’s thousands of advertisement levels. Plus as I assume this is getting Mm some type of money which only makes this game and future games better, so lets not go straight to calling people sell-outs when if you were in their position, you’d most likely do the same lol

  • I’d like to take this opportunity to express my love for Flo.

    Thank You.

  • I hope PS Plus members don’t get the games for free, because i really want to play them, but Sony didint seem to care about people who own a vita but don’t own a PS3.

  • I can honestly say I’m not a big fan of Toyota, and all of the Prius drivers I’ve ever met were all… well, Prius drivers (if you’ve met one, you know what I mean). That said, I still think the Prius contest was great, and I’ve played a few entries now. All fun. I think the Progressive entry will be similar. I can’t wait to see what people come up with!

  • What about people who preordered LBP and LBP 2 and had them from day one created levels and signed up for both betas and i own a vita(actually owning one seems pretty rare)from day one. 2 percent from trophy level 13 and im online on a daily basis. I would much rather have casual gamers testing my games too.

  • WHOA look at that grand prize! They already have a PS3 to play this game but they still get a…

    PS3
    Vita
    LBP Karting
    LBP PS Vita
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for both the PS3 and Vita?!!

OMG I wish I can create good levels. :(

  • I want to win at least second place for the PS Vita….. But seriously, Grand Prize- PS Vita, LBP Karting, LBP PS Vita, Playstation All Stars, and a PS3 even though you need one to play this game. Awesome!

  • What a great reason to get back into the game, seven hours spent so far in pre-creation. Win or lose, you know there will be a ton of great levels. Especially with the talent some of these players have.

  • the only commercial that i like from progresive insurance is the one that sonic was in it!

  • Wow, who’s idea was this?: “That’s when our judges will take a closer look at the 10 most popular levels, as determined by the LittleBigPlanet community”
seriously? Only going to judge the most popular levels? Deemed so by the community? Congratulations Latinplayer, you win. -_-
I’ve been a member of contest crews and you don’t just take a “closer look” at the popular levels, You judge every single entry. So they’re going to look at the most popular levels from the community? The same community that has made the “cool” pages a garbage heap? Nah, don’t think so.
Here’s what you should do if you truly want the best levels as deemed by the community. Take all the entries and split them up between the 4 main LBP communities : LBPCentral, LittleBigNetwork, LittleBigLand and Planetarium. The contest crews on those sites then judge the levels they are given to judge and submit their top level. Now you have the 4 top levels and award prizes 1st through 4th place.

  • Jester is right on about the judging. Not a great way to do it. Still the contest is cool. More attention LBP gets, the better and with 7 million levels + a couple with Flo won’t hurt. Let’s get Sackboy in one of those commercials to help get the word out about LBP Vita and Karting. That would be helpful…oh, especially with Karting. Come on, that commercial writes itself.

    Thanks for the update Steven.

  • Will the PS Vita be 3G, or just Wi-Fi?

  • @13&14: Seems like a fair compromise to me. If only Sony judged the contest, and awarded the prizes to a level which no one in the community played or liked, people would complain. If the community alone picked the winning level with no input from Sony, people would complain that the contest was rigged by creators getting their friends to vote for their levels. This way, you get community input and Sony’s input.

BTW, if those four main LBP sites are merely a subset of the entire community (and I’m sure many LBP players have never even visited them), wouldn’t it be better to have the overall LBP community as judges?

  • I rarely play LBP anymore, the community is a joke and just downright shameful. The cool pages are just a bunch of spam levels. Everything is getting stolen from the real creators. You`re really gonna have the winners picked by a bunch of spammers who wouldn`t know a good level even if it smacked them in the face? Nice contest, BAD way to pick the winners. Looks like the good, deserving creators will get shafted again.

  • Hold on, hold on. Why was the contest closed? It had AMAZING prizes, and I already begun making the level! Can anyone respond as to why the contest was closed?

  • Hey how do we play the progressive level? What’s the LBP.me link?

  • The Level is locked and I think is because it got reported for “Advertising”. I would suggest that MM Picked levels shouldn’t be aloud to get reported because they have been played and chosen to be MM Pick.

  • Will the downloadable version of Little Big Planet on PsVita be available for preorder on the PS Store?

  • @18-20: The level is unlocked now. It doesn’t make sense for it to get reported for “advertising” if this is Sony’s own contest level, similar to the Prius and make.believe levels from last year. From the in-game comments I’ve read, the level was temporarily locked because it used DLC in the making of the prizes–people who don’t own the DLC can’t use the prizes from the Progressive level to create their own levels, and therefore can’t enter the contest.

But, as I said, it is unlocked now, so I guess the problem has been fixed. The LBP.me link is: http://lbp.me/v/dky80b

  • The level was locked because the “required” items to use for the contest, contained $25 worth of DLC. Since not everyone may have all that DLC they have locked the level and are remaking the said items without using DLC materials, stickers and whatnot.

@#16 Android66, You obviously have no clue how the LittleBigPlanet community works. The “Popular” levels in LBP are definitely not the creme of the crop levels. Like Feral_Dragon said, the “Popular” or “cool” levels are generally copied spam levels. They are the quick and easy bomb/shark/zombie survival levels that require little to no effort to make.
So if they are judging a level based on popularity, this is the wrong route to take. That’s why I suggested the Forum method. We in the forums are very familiar with running crown and/or prize level contest and know what to look for in a good level.

  • @23: I guess I have no clue. I see levels that have received many likes/hearts, and when I play them, I can generally see why they are popular. Considering that anyone can publish an unfinished level, why should I waste my time playing levels with a single heart? Isn’t that what the entire rating system is for–helping us find content we might appreciate out of the millions of levels available?

I understand that popularity is not always indicative of quality…there are many popular music acts and movie stars who I think lack talent, and I’d rather eat a hamburger from anywhere else but McDonald’s, the most popular fast-food restaurant…but claiming that only people who are in the LBP forums are capable of judging quality smacks of elitism.

Why can’t “you in the forums” play the contest levels and heart them yourselves? What is to stop “you in the forums” from weighing in on the quality of the levels? I’m sure Sony will see your comments and take them into account when looking at the entries.

  • Hey Guys I design my first level that i gonna win this contest littlebigprogessive prizewinner races. my design is gonna be cool than that other level.
