As an active gamer who plays a lot of games, spends a lot of money on the PS Store and is a PS+ member, I am seeing less and less benefits to this service. When I first signed up, I would see some free PSN games, some free PS1 games, some free minis, free avatars, free themes, and lots and lots of discounts (the best part IMO).

At E3 we got 12 free games. But what they didn’t tell us was that is was in place of all of the other benefits that we were accustomed to. Free themes and avatars have dropped to nearly 0, when they used to be plentiful. The rotation of games has been fairly useless for very active gamers. The large number of discounts has dried up to the occasional discount on a new release, even then it’s a fairly small discount. Not to mention the EU arm of PS+ is kicking the absolute snot out of the North American version.

PS+ should always, always offer a wide array of discounts on lots of titles (isn’t getting us to spend more money the point), at least 1 free PSOne Classic a month (and not another old sports game)and at least 1 mini free a month.

Basically, this “new approach” to PS+ is a dud. If my subscription ended today, I would absolutely not renew.

I was just wondering if it’s true that UK playstation plus subscribers were given Darksiders, Outland, and Oddworld: Strangers Wrath on August 1st. If so why are we getting The Walking Dead a game that most serious gamers have already purchased on top of their monthly membership. I realize it’s impossible to not have any overlap when it comes to pre-purchased material being made free to plus subscribers. But in saying that episode 2 came out only 1 month ago and now is free. Can’t help feeling like I’ve wasted money.

On the topic of walking dead, does anyone know what the hold up is on the episodes in general? The game was released on April 23/12 stating that a new episode would be released monthly. And here we are 4 months later with only 2 available. Kind of wishing i didn’t tell anyone to buy it right now.

Just wondering if anyone has any information about Zen Pinbal 2.

In June 2012 the Playstation Blog had a post and the comment in that post stated “Zen Pinball 2 should be out in mid-late July for PS3 and PS Vita. ‘

It’s August now and sounds like there may be a delay.

Any word ?

I agree with you about the cloud storage thing. Paying a small monthly fee for cloud access is a great idea. I’d jump in on that. Sony could make a lot of extra money by doing that. I don’t want Plus, but I would like the cloud storage.

But if you want NASCAR 2011 bad enough, why not just buy the disc? It’s probably pretty cheap on Amazon. It’s better than sitting around and waiting for it especially considering that it may never become available as a digital download. Why deprive yourself? It only leads to frustration. Just get the disc. Don’t worry about your Blu-Ray drive crapping out. If it’s the only disc game you play, it’s not going to fail. Don’t worry about it.

Whoever was asking about PS2 games on their PS3. PCSX2 just went to version 1.0, which won’ t let you play them on your PS3 but will let you play them on your PC. I spent the afternoon playing my legally purchased copy of “War of the Monsters” (I still have the receipt in case anybody is going to proclaim me a pirate) so it saved me $10.

I know this is a long shot, but I had a feature request. As a part of PS+, you allow users to download updates during off peak hours (1am to 4am I thInk?). Would it be possible to allow this seem feature for items in the download management queue? I have satellite internet which has very strict download caps, but during nonpeak hours, there is no cap. This is starting to apply for other ISPs as well so it might be a good way for users to pull down large content (full games, etc.) during their non gaming hours. Thanks for your consideration!

although this gives me a chance to play TWD EP1-2 a lackluster update. Free 30 to 50$ games are good but when it gets in the way of other PS+ features it gets stale. really stale. the last time i got a free Avatar was before E3 when you guys were giving out Trine 2 for free. Dead space 1 and 2 i could care less if you made it free because i got both games. its just sad that i dont spend as much as i used to in the store anymore because of less discounts. Not to mention games that are overpriced and they shouldnt be Example need for speed hot persuit shift 2 COD BLOPS and MW2. im not one to complain but cmon. I rely on Discounts because my Blu ray aser burnt out on my ps3

Cheers

I actually made this decision today. That I’m not going to continue my Playstation Plus subscription this september. I have way too many games because of it and so little time to play them all. I don’t need it at all. I have to say I’m more happy buying games than playing them for free.
Maybe just MAYBE. If they actually handed out discounted or FREE DLC to plus members like they offer in their ad (and like Killzone 3′s map pack last year – FREE -) Oh wait. Let me guess. I’m talking discounts on Recent and Popular releases. I bought Escape Plan’s and Motorstorm R.C’s DLC for cheap when they offered it. But I don’t have a Vita you say? Well then I’m now influenced to go out and buy one knowing that I’m entitled to extra stuff that’ll go to waste.
I know I know it’s all up to the developer and all.. well hey what about those Playstation Plus plans you handed out as surveys to some people? I’d love to be a part of the Plan where I get discounts on ALL the DLC in the store…. I know you had a sale on COD maps. But I’m looking to spend a little money on smaller DLC packs.
Playstation Plus is for people who don’t go out and buy tons of games. Although the game trials are nice.

I actually really like PSN Plus, I think its great what you guys give out for free. Only thing I would say is how about increasing the online storage capacity?? Am starting to max out both memory space of online and hard drive. I heard of updating your PS3 with laptop memory, is there a guide Sony offers on how to do that so I wont void my warranty??

Hi, thanks for another early update, keep up the good work!
While I think the current Plus offerings are ok, they do seem to be lacking somewhat. What I think would help is some free DLC and discounted DLC for Plus members. On games that are free in Plus, it would be nice to get free dlc, so when someone’s sub runs out, they are not left wondering why they bought dlc for a game they no longer can play. For example, it would be great to get some of the dlc for Just Cause 2, Warhammer 40K Space marine, LBP 2, Lara Croft Guardian, etc for free. Right now I can’t try any of those, because I can’t justify spending $1 to try a new weapon, $2 for a new vehicle, $6 for some costumes/stickers, or $10 for a couple maps.
However, on games that are not free in Plus, it would still be nice to get discounted DLC for Plus members – I can see grabbing dlc if its deeply discounted at say 75% off for games I own and can still play after my Plus sub expires. Examples that come to mind are Batman Arkham City, Uncharted 3, Magic 2013, Civilization Revolution, etc. A mix of discounted dlc for newer and older games would be a nice bonus for Plus members.

Pretty lame PS+ update. Basically 2/5s of a game total. PS+ was much much better before. I loved getting PS1 games that were entire games and worked on my PSP too. And there just seemed to be more games given in a month. I’m kind of annoyed that you switched the style to this far inferior method one month after I re-sub for a year. All we get now is bad full PS3 games and bad PSN games.

So, instead of replacing two PSN titles, we got a PSN title and full PS3 game being replaced with 2/5 of a full game??

Did you all hire a monkey to do this months updates and deals for PS Plus? Because you have been entirely inconsistent with providing information about what is or isn’t coming and going, not to mention this extra week wait for whatever else is supposed to be swapped in.

Here’s an idea – STOP using different tactics in different countries! This is 2012, not 1990! People KNOW exactly what you’re giving other customers when you do that stuff, and it creates unhappiness and LOST customers when one does a FAR better job/approach than the other!!

We talk to one another :O We have forums where gamers congregate to talk about YOU and YOUR company, and what you are doing (or NOT doing)

I’ll give you a BIG insight here….what you’re doing is NOT working. What europe is doing IS working.

Shocker.

Just out of curiosity, is there any information availabe lon the first patch for the Crunchyroll app? It was already submitted by Crunchyroll for approval, and many of us were expecting to see it in this update, but alas it is missing. The app is barely funcional without this patch, so some information on how much longer it is going to be would be very much appreciated.

EU and NA are following a bit of a different strategy to see which games make the biggest impact in Plus. There are several factors to consider, however, please note that a certain number of PS3 Full Games free in Plus was never promised; they just comprised the majority of the free game collection in Plus when we kicked off the Instant Game Collection.”

…And what is the NA strategy at the moment? I mean, besides sucking? I mean, come on…. Was there any reason to doubt about the preference of AAA titles over 2/5 of a game (NO Morgan, it is NOT subjective. At all)?

What Sony America has been doing with the ICG is borderline false advertising, at least that’s how I feel: Cheated. I bought the subscription under the illusion that the games provided would be quality releases, like there had been. A trip through time up until before the big outage in May shows that PS+ used to be a MUCH better service than it is now. I’m not sure how you are fooling, or who do you think you are fooling. But unless August and September proves to be stellar, you have lost a member. Pretty sure I won’t be the only one.

Morgan, is there any way for you to find out any more information about the Crunchyroll App patch update? I think the patch was submitted 5-6 days ago to fix the problems with the release app from last week. The CR forums are getting pounded by frustrated first time CR users who signed up for a CR membership through the PS3 and so far many of them have already canceled their renewals because they are tired of waiting for a patch to fix the problems. I think everyone at CR were hoping the patch would have shown up with this Playstation Store update.

Thanks.

Absolutely. DLC in P4 Arena makes me want to stab Capcom in the face. I have been replaying through my Atlus catalogue on the PS2. At Persona 3: FES right now, will move onto P4 once that’s done. My fiancee also stumbled across some reprints of SMT: Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, so we ended up getting those online. Can barely wait until they get here so I can sink my teeth in. For those of you who are complaining about PS+, please look at the crappy PS+ service in Japan. It wouldn’t even worth a dime.

They only give free PS Archive games for the service, only one update per month… I really don’t see a reason for joining PS+ in Japan.

2) do not promise one thing and not fulfill it, although we are understanding that there are some circumsances out of your control
3) treat you customers like you dont want to lose them do not be rude oh and fix your customer service its pretty horrible (calling not here)
4) Be honest with your answers morgan and the other staff even if it is i dont know show us recognition for the most asked questions

This week, I was alerted by NeoGAF about the delisting of the r type ps one classics. If I never would have stopped by the forum, I never would have know that these classics were disappearing forever. The same thing happened a few weeks ago with capcom’s fate psp game. I had no idea it was being delisted until it was too late. Yeah, I know the r type alert was mentioned briefly on the podcast, but at the same time, don’t you guys at Sony think such news deserves more than a mere mention?

I mean perhaps a note on the weekly blog or a big banner on the store saying FINAL WEEK AVAILABLE or something to that effect.

Thanks again

So I bought the Two Worlds II GOTY Velvet edition. I think $10 is a pretty good deal but I noticed I can’t seem to access the Defence DLC in game. I downloaded and installed the Defence DLC as it is a separate download from the game. Everything else is there in game except Defence DLC. I did a quick google search and read that the Defence DLC never worked on the NA version of the GOTY velvet edition as there was no way to access it and apparently it never got fixed. Does anyone know if this is true? I mean even with the defence dlc being unplayable $10 is still a good deal.

If I didn’t already have HDN mk2 and KOF XIII on disc…then I’d still hold out, since I got excellent extras with those purchases.

Hopefully those glasses for P4A are unlockable in-game, considering how ubiquitous they seem to be for those characters.

Have Sound Shapes downloaded for PS3 (hope to have a PSV before the end of the year or so), and Papo & Yo (“Papo y Yo”, otherwise, not “Papo and Yo”) prepurchased (pre-”orders” on a digital distribution service? Please.)

Glad to get The Walking Dead episodes, see if my TWD-watching folks get anything out of ‘em. And by not getting all the episodes individually (since they’re not all out), there’s still the chance to purchase the Pass and get that theme (why am I a sucker for these? Maybe because they persist after Plus subscription ends?).

Super Stardust HD discount out of nowhere. One of the few games my friend has that I don’t, and one that I’d want to play, so maaaybe. Two Worlds II is tempting, as well. How long are the discounts on there? (As I ask before combing the comments/replies).

Already have PAYDAY from the last PLAY promo, and it’s still not one I’ve gotten into. so a pass on its DLC. Been feeling like Gotham City Impostors, though, after watching the WTF Is…?s on it. This coming from someone whose regularity with FPSes stops at TF2.

Decent drop, though notta lotta for Vita-goers, aside from the dual-release of Sound Shapes.

@236 – AGREED SO HARD!

Only knew of R-Types’ removal from Joystiq in my Facebook feed, even though I check this Blog regularly. Thankfully already got them when IREM left PS Home, but any removal has got to be the best time to give a sale. People even remotely interested won’t want to miss out, and with a discount, they’ll be able to justify the imposed impulse buy.

I’m mildly interested in the Fate/ series, but thankfully Capcom’s release was a fighting game, which is another genre I’m not too good at (though I like Smash Bros. and DISSIDIA).

I was very happy when I see the big 12 free game but over the month, the quality of the games and contents have regress considerably. Lesser games that before, no more dynamic theme, no new content on ps1 and vita games, (Dear good I am very happy to not buy the vita) , lesser discount, lesser whatever…

Psn Europe have way better deal in general for psn+ and discount. They got more free game and better free game. Why give walking dead 1 and 2 and not the others ? Morgan have no answer if the other will be free and me I am not interested to pay for it. It’s look like the psn+will become something to do more money like give a free game in half and buy the others + xpack.

Sorry Morgan but strategy in Europe is way better that US.
