PlayStation All-Stars: Sweet Tooth Strategy Video

Hey! It’s Paul Edwards, Lead Combat Designer at SuperBot. I’m here to shed some light on Sweet Tooth’s character design, as we continue our PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale character series.

Sweet Tooth has always been closely associated with vehicular combat, rather than hand-to-hand fighting, so when shaping his playstyle we had to rely on his distinct personality and image. Fortunately, we had direct input from the talented Twisted Metal team (including the man himself, Twisted Metal creator/game director David Jaffe), and we were able to get a great deal of constructive feedback from them through rigorous playtesting. We also had early access to the newest iteration of Twisted Metal when it was being developed — we drew inspiration for his level 2 super from the new “Nuke Mode” that was introduced in the game.

Sweet Tooth has always had this sort of campy B-movie feel to him, which led us to thinking we should have him use the PS3 controller as a weapon in his super. We played around with a few ideas for his level 3, and even considered allowing players to drive around in his signature ice-cream truck. We ultimately felt that Sweet-Bot — another piece from the newest Twisted Metal game — would be the best fit for his ultimate attack.

Sweet Tooth is a huge bruiser — he’s all about big, powerful attacks that often make his opponents go flying. He initially had a large degree of combo ability using his melee attacks, but we decided that didn’t really fit with his physique or playstyle. Instead, he likes to pick his battles, come through with a quick burst of power, then move on to the next opportunity (which isn’t very different from his style in Twisted Metal). Moves like the chainsaw, flame breath, and molotov cocktail really fit his character. We took the mines from Twisted Metal and included them in his arsenal as well. We considered giving him the classic freeze missile too, but opted to make it a usable item instead.

Check out his attacks and more in today’s PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale strategy video!

  • Mr. Paul Edwards, a new fighter for you: Pyramid Head

Konami will help you with this, their Silent Hill for Vita is almost there, it would be a great deal for both parts, for sure!

  • I recieved a Beta invite; however, where it says Here’s your Beta code, there’s no code. Please resend Sony !! >_<

    ……..what??
I don’t think you understand the meaning of the word “copycat.”

  • Just got into the private beta and loving it!!! Thanks feels like Sony appreciating the fact that I’ve own a PS3 since launch! Oh and the backgrounds steal the show in the game. When the patapons appear or the hotshots golf music start playing, I get gitty!!

  • The only character I want that hasn’t been revealed yet is a Patapon Uber Hero.

  • Just got my beta code earlier today.

So glad I tried it out to see why people were excited.

I can’t believe people are working themselves over about a stupid character roster. I got excited around SSB but not this game.

I couldn’t care less about this game. I really kind of hate the publicity the mascots are getting. I just want this released and over with.

Have fun with this *can’t talk about it* game everyone. Hope you’re not actually thinking about .. I mean wow.. you’re not really… $60? Are you sure? Well it’s your money….

  • I’m not liking Sweet Tooth’s mask, his hair on the sides look like puffy poodle ears. they need to make it more spiky like how it actually is on Twisted Metal.

  • Can’t wait for October 23rd. I hope this rumor of additional Tekken characters isn’t true, as there are other franchises that would be great to pick from rather then using more similar characters. I have faith in you, Superbot.

  • I wonder if this game is going to have alternate costumes. I hope so, just so I can use old Dante, no the new one.

  • What about Heavy from Team Fortress 2. He should be included.

  • #51 “It’s just me Heavy against you BABY!”

Seriously look at the new Uncharted 3 hats and taunts trailer some of the hats and taunts look similar to TF2 ones and you obiously haven’t seen the trailer and/or TF2 hats and taunts yet.

  • will snake be in it?

  • How many characters will be in this game?

  • Honestly, its hard for a game like this. When companies make mash up games, every fan wants to see specific characters get in, but space for characters is limited. They generally try to appeal to the newer, more casual audience, who may know little about the older more iconic characters. However, with Parappa it shows that Superbot is reaching out to the hardcore PS players however I fear they may try to keep nostalgia to a minimum and stick to character they know everyone knows. I still hold out hope for Crash, Spyro, and Rayman but I’m not holding my breath. Third party characters often times great when they are done right. That night when Nintendo announced Sonic on the SSBB website sent a shock-wave to through the community (despite how disappointing the game itself was) If this game continues added more and more non-actual playstation characters, I fear this game may kill its own hype. Like how Capcom destroyed SFXT with the dlc fiasco…well that’s a little extreme. I have no problem with the exclusives however I would like to see more than one character from each game…maybe 2. Like a hero and a villain for at least most of the included series. I feel that would balance it out pretty well.

  • To badman1982

I know about PlayStation’s history thank you very much. But we don’t need 3 Tekken characters!! I think 99% perople will agree with me here. We need Crash, and Sypro, I am not saying that they wont be in the game, but if they are not people will be very upset including me!!

I have been following this game very closely ever since it was announce. I have had a chance to play it at E3, I was lucky to be one of the 1sts with a beta code etc etc.

Crash and Sypro were the PlayStation classics who were once owned by Sony’s 1st party developers. It would be a HUGE let down if there 2 are not in!!

  • As a Beta tester here are some of my feedbacks that might help improve the game.

While the match is running I think it should show the score of each player: Therefore it will notify who is winning, which mean as for it to be more competitive. Why? by doing so it will lead the higher score player be targeted and give other players the advantage to catch up specially with grabs because it prevents that player from advancing since grab is one of the moves that removes AP. AlsoThe grab need a bit of improvement, lots of time it wiffs. In the loading screen it says it can grab when players who evades, I’ve seen it wiffed couple of time. I’m sure Seth Killian understand about grabs since he knows about SF heh. Also items dont drop much, therefore it’s not utilizing the AP remover which means we have to focus more on grabs.

I think that’s it for my feedback. The game is really damn fun, the game is almost the same as Smash Bros but the Specials makes a HUGE different which I really enjoy because you’re not fighting against other player but also fighting against time, so basically you’re racing to win.

Hope this feedback are helpful and be taken as a consideration :)
    Keep up the good work!!!

  • I’m still not fully understanding how the supers work but…meh. This game doesn’t appeal to me. I think i’ll buy LBP instead.

  • @DZORMAGEN

Apparently you don’t know the history because the IPs of Crash or Spyro were never owned by Sony. They are held by Universal Interactive, who became Vivendi which is now part of Activision. At the time UI was in a co-publishing deal with Sony. When that deal expired, those IPs went, multiplatform.

  • @DZORMAGEN

The community manager for Superbot, Clockwork, posted on Neogaf yesterday refuting the leak that there are more Tekken characters in the game than Heihachi and Kuma. All the guessing that Jin and Kazuya are in the game was WRONG. People need to stop jumping to conclusions.

  • Played this game last night and all i can say is WOW, amazing fun time. beautiful level design and ease of characters

  • sorry accidentally hit enter, ease of characters abilities and controls.

  • @unholyrevenger72

DID YOU EVEN READ MY PREVIOUS POST??

Sony owned the rights to Crash who at the time was being developed by Naughty Dog. So Crash Bandicoot was an SONY EXCLUSIVE in the PlayStation era!!

Before the Jak and Daxter series, the Uncharted series, and now The Last of Us series, Naughty Dog was making a game called Crash Bandicoot for Sony’s 1st Video Game System!!

Sony also owned the rights to Sypro who at the time was being developed Insomniac. So just like Crash Bandicoot, Sypro was an SONY EXCLUSIVE in the PlayStation era!!

Before the Resistance series, and now the Ratchet & Clank series Insomniac was making a game called Sypro! Who was an exclusive title to Sony’s 1st system also

I KNOW THE RIGHTS ARE NOT OWNED by these developers any more. Activision has their rights because they are the publishers now. Sony Entertainment was at the time the publishers of these two franchises!

    BOOM!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sweet Tooth is easy but so is Sly Cooper. I picked up Sly and I didn’t feel the struggle when I won with Sly Cooper. I also fought certain beta users and when they chose Sly Cooper it was an automatic win for them.
