The Drop: Week of August 13th 2012 New Releases

Rey Gutierrez's Avatar + Posted by Rey Gutierrez on Aug 12, 2012 // Senior Social Media Specialist

Featuring a dramatically larger world, full weapon and armor upgrade systems as well as bigger and more challenging dungeons and vast array of new enemies and bosses, Darksiders II strives to improve on every aspect of the original hit on PS3.

Also on PS3 this week, inspired by classic Hollywood and Asian cinema style action thrillers, Sleeping Dogs is a gritty open-world cop drama set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong. Explore the bustling and crowded Hong Kong island, through its neon-lit side streets and sprawling street markets, an incredible story unfolds of loyalty and betrayal where Wei begins to question his own motives as he is sucked in deeper than he could ever imagine.

In Papo & Yo exclusively for PSN, you play as Quico. Build his friendship with Monster by solving puzzles together and adventuring through a magical, surrealist world. Use Monster’s emotions, both good and bad, to their advantage if they want to complete their search for a cure and save their pal. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Darksiders II – Darksiders II follows the exploits of Death, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, in a weaving tale that runs parallel to the events in the original Darksiders game. This epic journey propels Death through various light and dark realms as he tries to redeem his brother War, the horseman who was blamed for prematurely starting the Apocalypse in Darksiders.

Sleeping Dogs – Sleeping Dogs catapults players into the role of undercover cop Wei Shen, tasked with taking down one of the world’s most fearsome criminal organizations from the inside… the Hong Kong Triads.

Offering players an island packed with action, every street corner, market stall, harbor dock or city skyscraper can become an opportunity for intense shoot-outs, adrenaline-fueled street races and intense, brutal martial arts combat. Featuring one of the most intuitive and imaginative combat systems, Sleeping Dogs empowers players to perform an extensive set of martial arts moves, singlehandedly taking on numerous opponents. Players perform bone-crunching kicks and combos, vicious counters and a cinematic set of environmental takedowns making use of countless real-world items from circular saws to phone booths, incinerators to refrigerator doors.

PlayStation Network

Papo & Yo – Papo & Yo is the story of a young boy, Quico, and his best friend, Monster. Monster is a huge beast with razor-sharp teeth, but that doesn’t scare Quico away from playing with him. That said, Monster does have a very dangerous problem: an addiction to poisonous frogs. The minute he sees one hop by, he’ll scarf it down and fly into a violent, frog-induced rage where no one, including Quico, is safe. And yet, Quico loves his Monster and wants to save him.

CSI: Fatal Conspiracy – CSI: Fatal Conspiracy features five connected cases that will allow players to experience an authentic crime-solving video game with real CSI characters, heart-pounding interrogations and enhanced graphics.

Demos

  • Papo & Yo
  • PS3 and PS Vita Madden NFL 13
  • Hustle Kings

PlayStation 2 Classic

Shinobi – Following a massive earthquake, Tokyo lies in ruin as mysterious forces seek out and obliterate what is left of the Oboro clan. In this rebirth of the classic SEGA action franchise, you take the role of Hotsuma, leader of the Oboro clan, as he battles through the demon-filled streets of a post-apocalyptic Tokyo in search of answers.

Using a unique stealth-dash technique, Hotsuma has the ability to move from enemy to enemy so quickly that a ghostly after image is left behind. This not only confuses Hotsuma’s enemies, but is also a key component in chaining attacks together to consecutively destroy hordes of enemies. “Ninja Magic” also provides Hotsuma with the upper hand in more desperate situations. In addition, Hotsuma has mastered the ability to run along walls, as well as scale buildings to reach hidden areas and special foes.

I apologize if this has been asked to death, but any news on PS1 Classics being on Vita? When’s 1.80 coming out? It’s almost the end of my summer vacation.

ALPHABETICAL SORTING FOR OUR DIGITALLY DOWNLOADED PSN GAMES IN THE XMB GAME LIST!!!!!!!

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never ever never ever ever ever ever ever ever gotten a response about a firmware update with the ability to alphabetize our list. And I do not want to sort by creation date or last time played. Nearly every freaking electronic device has the ability to sort by alphabet, and alphabetical sorting is the most common way of sorting things. Will this be updated in a future firmware update?

If you never answer, I will never stop asking.

No day one digital release for Darksiders 2 or Sleeping Dogs?

Come on man, do I really have to buy the game’s twice?

It ain’t right. First Max Payne 3 and now these two?

Both the music and film industries have made this standard, gaming needs to catch up.

And what’s up with GTA 3? So many questions left unanswered…

@11 I also want the ability to alphabetize my games, wouldn’t mind a non-group sort by ps1, ps2 and ps3 also.

@21 Tenchu also. Funny thing, the JP servers have it but we don’t. Hell, I’d be happy with Wrath of Heaven.

@23 I really was hoping we’d get TWD EP3 this week. Hopefully next week.

sigh. not even a demo for Sound Shapes. I mean, i hear good reviews and all, but that’s just opinion. i’d like to try it out for myself and form my own. it’s not like i can return digital content, you know. oh well, there’s always next week. in the mean time, i’ll just play Hots Shots Golf World invitational and F1 2100 and various PSP games. Say, how come you guys never post the new PSP games that come out for the Vita? I just found out that GTA China Town Wars was available to download!

Sony, I am terribly disappointing in you. I realize that you do not make the games for the VITA, however, you can push the companies to move faster or create some internal projects to keep the system flourishing, rather than just leave the VITA owners fumbling in the dark. In the 6 months I’ve owned the system, the best thing that has happened to it wasn’t a game, it was an accessory, the nyko handle.

Unless I’m completely mistaken, the PS classics to Vita movement is internal, and just because you created a new data format to prevent piracy on the VITA doesn’t mean it is acceptable to keep pushing back the release of the games like this. You created the format, you should be able to convert the psp emulator to the VITA. You are a company, if your employees haven’t finished by now, then start pushing them, give warnings, do something.

I have always been a sony customer, since day one of the split between Nintendo and Playstation, and while I will keep my PS3, as of tommorow, you have lost a handheld gamer.

Oh man, my first single player only full game since… the last one – Sleeping Dogs. I’m glad Square Enix picked it up after Activision couldn’t figure what to do. Although, it seems to be a Rockstar-style game. Very nice.
Also; can’t wait to eat some hallucinogenic frogs in Papo & Yo. I wonder if that means Papo and You?

Well ive got sleeping dogs paid off, just waiting to pick it up tuesday. darksiders 2 looks nice but i would want to play the first one before i pick that up. And to everyone whining about vita games dont get me wrong there are some things id like to see like ps1 support and remote play but there are plenty of good games out for the vita.. Gravity rush, Resitance(easy but good) Uncharted, rayman, ninja gaiden, mortal kombat, marvel vs capcom 3, super star dust delta, metal gear solid collection, Mod nation racers ( fun but no multiplayer sadly) even motorstorm rc was fun, escape plan is decent, hell i even had fun playing foosball… all im really waiting for is Little big planet vita, which is out in september.. but with other good titles like sly cooper, Assassins creed, Call of Duty, Killzone and others that have been announced i dont know what you are all complaining about..

Sony, I want to buy games but you are not porting or producing games for me to consume. Your prices for the psp are ridiculous, I know developers need to make money, but you can’t make money if people will not spend money for games that cost too much on handhelds.
And another thing, When games do become available, i will not be able to buy them, as my memory cards ran out of space. I have 2 8gigs. And a 4 gig, I will not spend tons of money on memory anymore, your memory chips are too expensive, $100 for 32 gigs is rape, no matter how you look at it. Let us know what is going on with Psone games on the vita, I can’t believe it is taking this long.
I don’t care for ps3 games streaming to the vita, if it lags there is no point. I want standalone gameplay, and if my games could be played on both systems great, but I don’t want my ps3 on while i play my vita, I want it to work without network connectivity just in case I go to an area without wifi.
Bring fat princess to the vita, something to show how it can handle multiplayer over wifi, co-op multiplayer has been done, but I don’t see much online mulitplayer games. Psone classics would be great with breath of fire 3, please make it happen. Thanx. I am done bit**ing.

I’m gonna play devil’s advocate really quickly……

the vita has had one of the best first years of any console i’ve owned in a long while, and while the launch line up wasn’t as stellar as the PS2s it was 10x better than the PS3s 1st year

ive brought 6 vita games so far and will likely have 6 more by the end of the year…. 12 games in one year

when the ps3 launched i brought resistance, ridge racer , and ninja gaiden sigma and i didnt buy more games for the system until almost a year later uncharted:df ratchet and clank: tod and Heavenly sword….

dont even get me started how bad the first years were for the “other” consoles…

dont worry the games are coming…. madden, fifa, ragnarok oddessy, persona 4, jet set radio, zen pinball 2 and much more are coming in the next 4-5 weeks

@6, rabid- I have been in this situation before. Do not deter friend; Japanese ramen or even Italian noodles w/ tomato sauce is full of protein. Us gamers are a strong species. (=

I didn’t even know Sleeping Dogs was out next week!

@43, Labaronx- I am a Vita owner & have all 3x competing consoles. Your comment is exactly the way I’ve viewed the progress of the Vita thus far- Sony has stated they’re having trouble w/ 3rd party support. It’s a tough business out there as reflected by how much $$$ Sony lost this year. Many of the titles you listed are on my wishlist, not to mention whatever Sony has planned for Gamescom!
