Hi, everyone. One of the key announcements coming out of Gamescom today is that the next PS Vita System Software Update (v1.80) is coming your way late August, and will add support for playing PSone Classics on your PlayStation Vita. I know a lot of you have been looking forward to playing original PlayStation titles on the go.
In addition, you will be able to make various setting changes while games are running and take screenshots of your gameplay.
*It might not be possible to take screenshots in some applications, or in some parts of applications.
Listed below are a few other new features that will be added with the 1.80 update:
Cross Controller
The new Cross-Controller feature will allow you to use PS Vita as a controller to play compatible games on PS3, such as LittleBigPlanet 2. This feature lets you take advantage of PS Vita’s rich features including the touch screen, rear touch pad, six-axis motion sensing system, and cameras.
To access the cross controller feature you need to launch the Remote Play application and then click on the Cross-Controller icon.
Controls
As many of you have requested, you will now have the option to control the home screen and some features of applications such as Videos and Music with the buttons on the PS Vita system.
Music
Playlists will be supported in Music. You will be able to transfer iTunes (10.6.3 or later), M3U, and M3U8 playlists from a PS3 or a PC using Content Manager.
Web Browser
Rear touch pad operation will be supported by the browser, allowing you to scroll through and zoom out of pages without obscuring the screen.
Video
The following controls have been added to Videos:
- Playback speed control
- Repeat play
Photos
Viewing photos in MPO format will now be supported, with the ability to transfer MPO files from PS3™ and PC using Content Manager.
* 3D and multi-angle viewing are NOT supported.
Group Messaging
Along with some new layout enhancements, you will be able to take photos to add as attachments when writing Group Messages.
Maps
The Maps feature has been improved by adding a button on the top screen to switch between “Search for Location” and “Search for Directions.” You can also touch and hold a location on the map and place a user flag.
“near”
“near” will be able to gather the information of surrounding Wi-Fi access points without internet connection and update the location data based on it later. You can get location data within the area covered by Wi-Fi location services.

Could you guys please add the ability to delete all messages in a conversation in the group messaging app? I hate having to delete messages one by one if i don’t want a conversation saved on my Vita anymore.
I’ll be glad that I can finally take my PSone Final Fantasy games on the go with me. They are great when I’m at my family members houses out in the country and no internet! It is disappointing it took a while to get this feature launched but at least it is about to hit now!
i heard that we would be able to make our own ps3 games into cross controller games is this fake if not HOW? and please fixed remote play so i can play ps3 games on meh vita
That’s nice and all, but when are we going to see some more PSOne Classics? The last one was two months ago.
I hope Sony will release PS2 support. I really want to play some of my favorite PS2 games on the go. That would be awesome!
Is Sony ever going to grow the list of PSP titles that the Vita supports?
It’s a pretty shamefully small amount at the moment and I have quite a few PSP titles I got from the PS Store that I’d love to play on my Vita, but they’re just sitting around because they ain’t supported yet for whatever reason. I still don’t see why your next generation portable still can’t match your old handheld in the games department. It’s pretty damning. You guys do realize that backwards compatibility is a huge reason for people to buy into a device, and is why I have bought not one but three original 60GB PS3s?
So still no flash for the web browser?!!
Will I finally be able to play the PSP game Metal Gear Portable Ops in the USA? Europe and Japan have been able to play this game for a long time.

Okay great to hear that ur bring a new update to the vita sweet. But its been 12 days since to post and its already almost about to b September and we yet haven’t got the update.. I’ve been checking my system and your website to c if you guys have updated it. sure enough…still no update, what is taking ya’ll so long to bring it out I have a crap load of ps1 games i would love to play but you guys are just taking your sweet time to bring it out. we the fans that dumb money into your company have not seen the update yet. if you want to make money and boost your sells then get to working cause we all know you aren’t making that much money if anything ya’ll are probably breaking even..if you want to make your sells go up a little more ad’s especially with this new feature… listen I just want to play my classics on the go so please bring out soon

I also want sony to bring out a ps vita version of bejeweled 3 or bejeweled 2 at least so i can earn trophies on it, i know the psp version works but a ps vita version may be better and a ps vita version of peggle with peggle nights would be great
This is great, but I also qant them to fix the bluetooth problem, when I turn my ps vita on the bluetooth is sometimes switched on

Now only if there was an update so i can play my ps3 games on my vita with remote play alot of people that i have spoken to said they would buy more ps3 games if they could access them from there vita.Now that would also be cool :D.

ok im gonna mention a few things we NEED (!) on the vita. the cross play feature for games that arent gonna be on the vita. (like killzone 3 which was mentioned before launch and still bugs me that its not out now.) flash support. (like on the psp… cmon now. i thought it was basically gonna be the psp2. ) and perhaps ps2 game support through remote play. and the ability to transfer our ps1 games previousely purchased on ps3 to our vita.

Just wondering if us Vita owners can get a Hulu Plus app by chance? I have it on my PS3, but I’d love to be able to watch some stuff on my sleek handheld! We already have Netflix, but Hulu is a must-have!
owning all 3. psp/vita/ps3. vita got 1.80 to play ps1 games. (in a box unutalizing the vitas full screen)
ps3 slim gets updates as if it rains them and its been on the market way longer and still no sign of a ps2 emulator boxed screen or not.
now my psp 3000. suppose to be the lesser power full console hand held or not. has more going for it than any thing playstation as tried to match. proof just look at the japan market for the psp.
if i had chance to woop down the main directors pants and throw him over my knee i woldent slap his ass. or even tan his ass. I WOULD ROW HIS ASS (like a viking on a mission).
