You might have watched YouTube on PS3 before, but get ready for a whole new world of video and features. We have a completely new experience, designed for the big screen and optimized for the PS3. Here’s what you’ll find:
- Search: Finding the videos you want is easier than ever, with search suggestions and instant video results while you type.
- Your subscribed channels: Sign in to find the latest videos from your YouTube subscriptions, which now also includes official music videos.
- Your phone as a remote: With a quick pairing process, you can control YouTube on PS3 with a smartphone. Find a video on your phone and with a button it’ll play on the big screen. While the video is playing you can control it from the phone, or keep browsing YouTube for the next one.
With today’s Store publish, you’ll find the new app in the PlayStation Store under My Channels. We’ll keep improving the PS3 experience and plan to bring the app to more countries in coming months.

I’m disappointed, I don’t know if there will be a correction patch or something, cause my ps3 got this weird problem and it seems to be rare, My ps3 version firmware was 4.20 then I updated it for 4.21 but still loads the app forever and still doing the 3 beeps and restarting when I try to exit the app, I deleted and reinstalled the app a lot of times and simply doesn’t work on my ps3. Now I deleted the app and I won’t download it again cause I don’t know if I keep trying too much could harm my ps3 or my HDD…My ps3 is CECH – 2511A if this matters…

I do have a few questions for you though:
1. Is this using the PS3 hardware to upscale video on the app? I ask this, because your competition’s Youtube app is not in HD, and the PS3 App is clearly in HD and very well done.
2. A few features are missing from the APP, such as:
A. A “Like”, “Dislike” option for videos.
B. A favorite option for videos.
C. A playlist option for videos.
Will these be added to the App’s features in the future via patch?
In closing, I just want to say Thank You to you guys at Sony, and I hope you guys keep on upgrading and improving the Playstation brand across the board.
I downloaded this today and tried it out. The UI is a bit messy and confusing with too many categories. I had no problems signing in but after that nothing but problems. I could open a video and then when I tried to choose another video it would just repeat the first video over and over. The only way to get it off of that video was to end the app and restart it. At least it did not crash the system. I also could not get it to pair with my android phone (SONY Xperia Play by the way), it would just crash my phone’s browser every time I tried it. This will be very nice to have if they can get the bugs ironed out. “It only does everything”, except Facebook, Youtube and a decent web browser, although I will admit the browser it much better than it used to be. I’m using a 320GB Slim model.

If your going to do an update that only people in America can use and lie and say this will be for everyone in NORTH AMERICA, than at least say its just for america. Would love to use this app, but alas screw Canada right? They totally dont live in North America right??!
First off let’s get something straight. People are at times bashing Sony for the lack of features in this app. Which in fact this app is made by YouTube (Google) with the permission of distribution of Sony. Thus whatever problems you’re having with this app accusations should be going to Google and YouTube not Sony. Next off YouTube.com official blog said that they will plan to make updates to the app as a result of feedback from PS3 users (http://youtube-global.blogspot.com/2012/08/game-on-get-new-youtube-app-for.html). So let’s get this straight if there is a feature missing write Google and don’t complain if it’s a big enough flaw it will be fixed. Also note the release of this app is already in version 1.01. Meaning it’s been patched at least once already before the app was even released.
HD will come but right now they are really focused on making a good User interface for the PS3.
Overall this app is great and works for the most part fine.
It’s a pretty cool app, but it doesn’t appear to have quality settings. I find that to be rather disappointing. Maybe in the coming updates of the app there will be an added quality setting feature, because I don’t like that fact that I have a HDTV with a 1080p output but I still can’t watch YouTube vids in 1080p.
Fix please.

I find the search to be very cumbersome. I can’t use my wireless or USB keyboard to search. Because of this the predictive text is proving to be extremely frustrating. Also, I find that I have to fiddle with the screen in order to even get to the search bar to enter text.
Is anyone else having this problem? Perhaps some advice on how to make searching easier?
Why was youtubexl blocked on the web browser? I get you want us to get the app, but you should still let us use whichever version we prefer.
the app keeps laging up on me and ive had the 3 beep restart more than once. if it can barely play a video without it stuttering ever 30 seconds it would be sick. please OH PLEASE patch it. HD can come later just fix this bug.
This ap is terrible. I cant get a video to play at all. So then after trying 3 times i say screw it i’ll just go back to the web browser version. The web browser youtube directs me back to this terrible ap. Let me just watch it using the browser again please.
I’m not too happy that I’m forced to use this app instead of just going to the website. Whenever I type in the browser or click on the website name after a web search, I’m refered to the app download. Not overly excited about my browser being limited in such simple tasks as not going to and viewing the normal website now. Was never a fan of the Youtube XL view or whatever it was called, prefered regular desktop layout. Speaking of which, the web browser needs much needed adobe flash and other such updates, please. Thank you.
Okay so how am I suppose to stay logged on my youtube account without having to put in a new code on my phone or computer every time?
please help ive used the youtube app about ten times now and each time its frozen my system and ive had to restart it… :-(
I hate to say that I also strongly dislike the new Youtube app. Personally, I use my PS3 mainly as a web browser (I do not have a Mac/PC/Smart phone), so it’s more practical to view YouTube on the web browser for me. I really think it was unwise to disable us PSN users from regular YouTube (especially since I’ve just figured out how to get links to show regular YT instead of XL).
I know that some users like the new app, but it would be better if the browser version was still an option. Some people just like things the simpler way. All I ask is that Sony think of those type of users, the tropers, people who read livejournal, people who lurk on forums, people who just plain don’t like apps, people that follow links and wouldn’t know the title of the video.
(PS. I do agree that the Flash Player needs to be upgraded. It can be a pain visiting certain sites because of it.)

As many others are starting to report on other forums it’s now stuttering like crazy on playback Ben though the buffer is nearly full. It’s really too bad as it was working nicely yesterday.
Perhaps there is a nasty memory leak in the code or something. Regardless, please fix this.
Also, can you please tell us why YouTube has to be “dumbed down” on consoles and media streaming devices?
Many of us have wireless keyboards connected so please let us use them! You may even sell more PS mini wireless keyboards if you supported it. Also give us the option to put it in “full mode” so we can read/leave comments and thumb up/down a video. This is a major function of YT and it was shut off???
After reading some of the comments, I realized I had similar problems with the app. No HD quality options, froze while loading second video, forced 3-beep restart of system, non-user-friendly horizontal letter scroll system. I do not own a smart phone, so these options I read about are non-concerning for me. Forced to use app despite having a web browser, although needs repairs and updates, can be used to visit regular youtube website and layout. Please upgrade the web browser and I guarantee you, you’ll please many PS3 owners than you would with an app.
Oh, and despite living in the United States myself, as a fellow PS3 owner, I feel compelled to agree with the other comments I have read, in that you should not neglect the REST of North America. i.e. Canada and Mexico.
(Unless of course there are reasons unbeknownst to me for the delay or absence of such updates toward regarded countries.)
As far as the skipping goes I thought it was my connection (wired ethernet) so I tested Netflix and it goes right to full XD/HD almost instantly as well as checking it on my PC and it’s very fat, no skipping so it’s definitely the app at fault.
Hopefully they can patch this before everyone deletes it!
Also I’m starting to wonder if they restrict this to 720p because of a deal with either Netflix, Amazon, VUDU, etc… to keep the pay services at a higher quality.

The app sucks!!!!! If your browsing the web and click on a link to a youtube vid you get directed to the download page. You have to close the browser and start the app. what good is this? especially if you don’t know the title of the vid. We should be able to access youtube from the browser or the app. You all didn’t put much thought into this. I guess the app is only useful for people with smart phones.

This was a no-brainer. They could have just copy+pasted what was on the browser version, but they decided to screw it up. Video lags and typing is so stupid. They have a horizontal typing system instead of the standard typing thing, which was better.

U MUST BE KINDING ME >:( ! i sold my ps3 month ago ( and didnt have app ) to buy Vita, and i was expecting html 5 from beginig, but no ! ! u disapointed me as usual! thats why people hate Playstation, and this is not over yet ! i saw ps vita youtube app and i couldnt download it because i was in region that dosnt support you ! so now i dont have youtube app on ps vita, and america has it !
Is a good idea except it lags horrible. It seems to maybe be the audio. It stutters every half second. If I pause it will play for 10 seconds clean and then back to the st- st- stutter. Maybe some buffer issue, give it a bigger memory cache or something(although there isn’t much to work with)

App sucks because it zooms videos in too much so you see poor quality… Might as well make the crappy youtube site on the PS3 browser full screen…

this app is complete bull every time i try to watch more than 1 vid it just keeps on repeating over and over and i use my ps3 browser to surf youtube and listen to tunes and now that i cant listen and watch playlists its just a hastle to deal with thats unnecessary

No replies? :/ My ps3 crashes and restarts every time a try to use the app. The app doens’t even start. I deleted the app and I’m not going to download it again until they fix it. My ps3 never crashes like that, once in a while when I play bf3 my ps3 freeze but it is very rare!! So I think my ps3 is fine…
I can’t describe how frustrating this new add-on app is! When you search for a video you want to watch, you don’t get to use the common ps3 keyboard pop-up. You have to scroll through the left to right a-z letter format, which takes absolutely forever! So dumb… I tried deleting the new app and go back to youtube/xl for my ps3, but playstation makes the youtube app mandatory! wtheck! D:.>
yeah! typing suckz!!! wth!! and i can’t figure out how to favorite! and there’s no related video generator so i can’t watch episodes in order without out using said crappy typing scroll bar. i use youtube more than i play anything and you just made that near impossible. thanks. i’m def putting the brakes on buying a vita until this gets fixed.

I have problems with this app. For one thing I don’t own a smart phone, becuase I’m the traditional type. And now I’m forced to use this app to watch youtube videos on my ps3. Don’t get me wrong HD videos are great in all but I’d rather use the same interface as my computer, I should not be taken to a “use this app or else page” to watch youtube. The app should be optional, not required.
too musch like xbox youtube . you need to make it faster so it dont lag and make it allow for you to sign in on ur youtube account. instead of haveing to do the fone activation i think thats lame
