Give button mashing a whole new meaning with the new YouTube app for PS3, rolling out later today in North America for free from PlayStation Store.
You might have watched YouTube on PS3 before, but get ready for a whole new world of video and features. We have a completely new experience, designed for the big screen and optimized for the PS3. Here’s what you’ll find:
- Search: Finding the videos you want is easier than ever, with search suggestions and instant video results while you type.
- Your subscribed channels: Sign in to find the latest videos from your YouTube subscriptions, which now also includes official music videos.
- Your phone as a remote: With a quick pairing process, you can control YouTube on PS3 with a smartphone. Find a video on your phone and with a button it’ll play on the big screen. While the video is playing you can control it from the phone, or keep browsing YouTube for the next one.
With today’s Store publish, you’ll find the new app in the PlayStation Store under My Channels. We’ll keep improving the PS3 experience and plan to bring the app to more countries in coming months.
When i watch videos its all choppy. Does anyone else have this problem or is there something wrong with my PS3 or Internet Connection.
i really dont like this app. it lags so much and the text style really blows. really disappointed. this is my first ever logging into psn on my laptop and i just came here to complain. yes its that bad.
App is complete and utter garbage. The search system lags hard and is completely too awkward to use (Why we have this instead of the normal PS3 keyboard is completely beyond me.) To top it all off, every time I try to watch a video, load a video, or try to watch a second video if and when the video loads, the YouTube app, every single time without failure, loads. It will allow me to quit the YouTube app, but doing so crashes my PS3 and causes it to turn off instead of simply exiting out of the program. SHAME ON YOUTUBE FOR SHOVING THIS PIECE OF CRAP ONTO US!! The PS3 Browser is 1,000,000 TIMES BETTER THAN THIS!

I just downloaded the app – all I get is two thin yellow bars that are horizontal on a black screen. No instructions about how to sign in to my youtube account or activate the app or anything!
This is absolutely unacceptable! Why remove access to youtube from the browser and replace it with an app that doesn’t work?! I literally can’t even watch a video that is choppy like everyone else can – I can watch two thin yellow bars, and that is all!

I have 50 meg internet dedicated just for my ps3 Have no problems with any other channel or online games, With that being said THIS GARBAGE YOUTUBE channel THAT DOESN’T WORK< ITS THE WORST CHANNEL TO DATE. I downloaded this app today,signed in,activated,paired with smartphone. Haven’t been able to watch a single video.
Sony & Youtube, why is this App so screwed up? The Youtube through the cruddy interNOT explorer was shaky, at best! However; this new App on the other hand, is 500 pounds of crap in a five pound bag! We cannot leave comments, “favorite” a video, add it to a playlist, rate it or search for anything without taking half an hour or longer to enter a simple term (like “the” or “new”). We could at least do this on either the Playstation InterNOT explorer or on the “XL” version of Youtube!
Why do you hate us Sony? Haven’t we been good little boys and girls for you? We do our homework, purchase your Playstation Plus Memberships, Check the store updates weekly and religiously, and spend untold amounts of our hard earned money into your DLC, Digital Games, Comics (oh sorry, not anymore, for whatever silly/ sissy reason) & Videos. We also buy any new system you have to offer (no matter how many bugs it may have or how much we have to eat pork and beans for the next six months because we bought a new system!!!).
Can’t you put some of our hard earned money into an App that we all can appreciate and use on a daily basis instead of this steamy, watery, smelly, pile of App that you have thown in our face (and then duct taped our hands so; we cannot wash it off)? Please Sony, fix this… We don’t want to keep saying we fell down or ran into a door knob!!! HELP THIS APP!!!

AHHH… Much better. I’m going to go watch VUDU, CinemaNow, or Netflix. Nevermind… I’ll go watch Youtube the way it was meant to be seen… on The PC!!! That seems to be the only and last place you can watch the regular version, now!

1. Search – Does not let you use the symbol “-” so you can fine tune your results. Let’s say you want to search on your favorite band. It gives you the videos to your band, everyone that covers your band and all interviews with your band. You should be able to use the – symbol to get rid of the cover bands by using -cover saying I don’t want any results that contain the word cover. Same as when you search the internet. However, this symbol is not available in the search feature.
Please add the “-” symbol to the search menu. Thank you.
It doesn’t work. I can’t even watch youtube through the browser. it prompts me to download the app. We waited how many years for this?
my youtube doesn’t work all the time so i have to reset my ps3 alot time. and I can’t sign in to youtube.

the youtube app is horrible!!!! me and my gf used to love watching youtube videos, and now we dont because the app is garbage, and we cant watch it from the browser anymore!!! terrible job! I can’t understand how it was ever released.
ok, this isn’t a good app. it’s a start….but it’s not a good app. the app should be like how youtube is on a PC. secondly, not all of us have Tablets and Smart phones. Just because you WANT us to buy tablets and smart phones dosn’t mean you have to FORCE it upon us. i shouldn’t NEED one to look up videos, comment on, and subscribe to channles. I ALSO shouldn’t NEED one to visit channles to look through ALL of their content. simply put it feels like a poor attempt (like the original xl for PS3), or an unfinished product. it should have all the functions of youtube it’s self. not just watching videos.
it is way better than the old one, but I’d like the ability to thumb up a video or watch certain video series that channels bunch together. Right now everything seems backwards and I can only access a few videos without trying to use the search functions. The search sucks too, I prefer the playstation keyboard window over scrolling left and right hoping it stops on the right letter.
ok – im not really sure wtf sony was on when they made this app. But i got a few issues with it lol
1- Cant use my USB keyboard to type? I gotta click each letter 1-by-1 to enter a search. So this makes even simple searches 10x longer.
2- if i bump the analog-stick, it skips next or back to the next video in line. This is a big deal cuz even an accedentl click and i could be in the middle of a a hour long video and gota restart.
3- no bar to click-n-drag to seek? as the mentiond in #2 – i gota fastfoward at 1 speed to get where i wanna go lol
4-this UI is ugly, and far to simplistic. What was wrong with the normal youtube layout?
5-were forced to use this app, as I cant use the browser anymore, it always reminds me to use the app.
am i alone? cuz i sure as heck feel kinda pissed that it now takes me longer to find videos, and even worse, most of the youtube features are gone. So instead of enjoying a video on my TV – i gotta use a small laptop screen to view videos lol.
Youtube XL was way much better, easy to find video and faster to use.This new app really suck my ps3 crash twice sence i use it. Sony please fix the browser so i can use the original one.
