The Drop: Week of August 20th 2012 New Releases

On PS3 this week, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive brings deep tactical matches, iconic multiplayer maps, and PlayStation Move or mouse-and-keyboard support to PSN. The war on planet Cybertron rages on in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, which takes fans through the final, darkest hours of the civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons as they fight for control of their dying planet — buy it on Blu-ray or PSN Tuesday.

On PSN, Retro/Grade is an innovative game that fuses the white knuckle thrills and over the top visuals of a shooter with the broad appeal of a rhythm game. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater both receive the full digital treatment and arrive on PSN for PS3 and PS Vita. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron — With the stakes higher and scale bigger than ever, fans will control an unprecedented assortment of Transformers characters armed with authentic transformation designed around their unique abilities, including Grimlock’s nearly indestructible T-Rex form and the legendary Combaticons forming into the colossal Bruticus. Taking the franchise’s competitive online play to all-new heights, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron pits players head-to-head in blistering Autobot vs. Decepticon matches.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

PlayStation Network

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive — Counter-Strike: Global Offensive expands upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago. CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.).

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS3 and PS Vita, sold separately) — Once underway, players take the role of a one-man army determined to stop a deadly high-tech weapon from falling into the hands of a highly elite resistance group known as Dead Cell. Users must once again utilize their skills in stealth, weaponry, and counter-terrorism to fight off the competing powers; and as they progress through a twisting storyline, eventually destroy the gigantic war machine, Metal Gear Ray.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS3 and PS Vita, sold separately) –– In the struggle to achieve world peace and world dominance in the Cold War period, rivaling governments are secretly developing weapons technology that could threaten the future existence of life. Destined to be the first, a race ensues to become the ultimate nation. A special elite tactical soldier is summoned to penetrate deep in the heart of enemy territory and obtain Intel about “Metal Gear”, a prototype weapon with nuclear capabilities. This is your mission and you must infiltrate alone. As “Naked Snake,” you must outsmart enemies with camouflage, close-quarters combat, stalking, interrogating, climbing, hunting and treating injuries in this critical chapter of the Metal Gear saga.

Retro/Grade — Retro/Grade stars ace fighter pilot Rick Rocket who has just saved the universe. Unfortunately, the massive destruction he left in his wake has caused a temporal anomaly that reversed the flow of time. You must assume control of Rick’s spacecraft and fight through the epic space battle … in reverse.

Michael Jackson: The Experience — He is the legendary King of Pop! Featuring an immersive and interactive experience for the Playstation Move that enables players to step into the shoes of Michael Jackson himself and re-live his most iconic moments through their own performance. The unparalleled tracklist features many of MJ’s biggest hits including Billie Jean, Beat It, Smooth Criminal and many more. There are an array of his awe-inspiring dance moves for players to learn and emulate within the game. Additionally, fans can sing along and test their vocal skills while immersed in the performance.

Deep Black — The unique underwater setting of Deep Black combines action-packed battles with an immersive story line that blends science-fiction, espionage and bio-terror. Realistic underwater physics add intensity to this third-person action thriller.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure HD — Based on the popular comic book series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD is an arcade fighter that lets you duke it out with your favorite characters from the comics. JoJo must travel to Egypt to find a cure for his sick mother. Each fighting character has his or her own Stand, a guardian spirit that aids in the battle. Unlike mortal humans though, Stands can reanimate quickly after defeat, so use this to your advantage as you try to defeat the evil Dio and his minions.

Way of the Samurai 4 — Way of the Samurai 4 takes place in the harbor town of Amihama, several years after the arrival of the “black ships” from the West ended Japan’s long history of cultural isolation. Will you aid the traditional isolationists in their attempts to exile this potential threat to the Japanese way of life? Will you aid the shogunate government in their attempts to keep the peace and establish cordial (but limited) relations with the foreigner contingent? Or will you aid the foreigners in their attempts to establish silk trade and foster cultural exchange, even at the expense of a few traditions? Who will you support? Who will you betray?

PlayStation 2 Classic

Gungrave: Overdose — Developed by Red Entertainment, Gungrave O.D. takes the carnage-based formula of the original, adds more characters and some new abilities to the mix. Expanding on its predecessor, it throws you in a cel-shaded world of exaggerated firefights and near delirious action sequences. In addition to franchise hero Grave, there are two additional fighters to choose from: Rocketbilly Redcadillac and Juji Kabane, who meet up with Grave at the beginning of the game. With the exception of the very first training battle, all three characters have the same set of missions to go through and deliver a different experience.

  • where is the ps1 patch for vita?…wondering if its ever to be released

  • @100 its out August 28th
    http://bit.ly/RdNyeh

  • @75 Please don’t post annoying, religous junk. I’d join a cult if I wanted to hear that. If ” jesus never betrays”, are you saying all the kids that die every day deserve it?

  • Nope. But I certainly don’t hold Him responsible for the actions of men either. It’s like blaming the bank manager when the place gets robbed

  • WilHiteWarrior, please leave the Playstation boards clear of your religious lies. Not everyone thinks the same way you do, and I am sick of being oppressed by religious people. This site is to discuss video games and not your BELIEFS, and beliefs and facts have two separate meanings.

Keep that crap off the boards.

  • If youve been oppressed by Christians Im truly sorry. There are those who take it too far and are judgmental. But merely sharing the truth of God’s word is not oppression. But no. I won’t keep quiet just because some of you don’t like what I have to say. Is it right that I should listen to men and not God? No I dont think so

  • @101 , 103:

No doubt he could have kept it lighter, and I think many would appreciate if he did in the future.

Yet… How did his post offended or oppressed you? So you are free to say that his religion is “crap” but he can’t state his faith? Your freedom ends EXACTLY where that of another begins. Not everyone thinks the same way YOU do either. Have some manners.

  • @venneer Thanks and God bless you :)

  • Can some Ps+ dude plz post a Cs vid on youtube when u get the demo today… PLZ. i have been waiting to how the game plays for months now. thx

  • Hmm… a Sleeping Dogs demo. Guess I could give that a shot.
I still think it’s funny that my Gamestop location had 43 midnight launch pre-orders for Darksiders 2, and only one for Sleeping Dogs, even though the internet is trying to tell me that SD is better. Personally, I’ve been floored by how much bigger Darksiders 2 is than the first game.

I’ll also grab the Retro/Grade demo to try it out, though I’m pretty sure I’ll grab it at some point. And hopefully both Legasista and WotS 4 also drop this week, even though they didn’t get mentions here. Time will tell.

freedom of speech is allowed in public. you do not have free speech here since this is a forum owned by Sony. Sony has the freedom to delete anything you post here and you agreed to the rules.

And religion offends me because arrogant hateful bigoted religious people state their faith (assumptions) as fact, and most of the world is religious and therefore I am oppressed by religious stupidity.

Just keep the religious lies off a video game board. ALL religion sucks. Thanks.

  • @109 Sorry but still no. I’ll sing my praises to my Lord where and when I please

  • @ 111

ALL PRAISE THE ONE TRUE GOD, SATAN… LUCIFER! Or was it Cthulhu or Amun Ra or Bastet or Zeus or Odin or Isis? I don’t know, all these true gods are quite confusing.

Anyhoo…MODERATORS, WHERE ARE YOU!? Please get all this religious drivel off the boards! It is quite offensive. Thanks in advance.

  • lol a lot more people here than just you. Hard as I try to think of a reason I should listen to you I just cant figure one out. And I just cant understand the point of believing in nothing. I believe in a God who loves me so much He sent his one begotten Son to bear the penalty for my wrongdoings… If I’m wrong then when I die my belief made no difference in death… but in life it gave me morality to live by… to love my fellow man and to be forgiving to those that wrong me. But what if you’re wrong?

  • MODS!

    Moderators!

    Halp!

  • @rabidninjamonky @neuropunk

At least he believes in something! Its people like you two who are making the world a sad place to be. I just got one question, You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight? Cause thats exactly where your headed. So be it!

  • @WilHiteWarrior

Thank you for understanding earlier. At least not all hope is lost.

  • 114, you cannot go to a place that does not exist or meet someone who does not exist. Sorry.

  • @L1ftedResearch

Dude, get a life.1 comment..? if that isn’t trolling I don’t know what is.

  • @Enigma2010 Don’t mention it :) God bless you. Though my prayer is that he might someday come to believe before that happens. I dont wish that fate upon anyone

  • @neuropunk

You may very well be right, however I’d rather believe in something and when the end comes die with faith, than to die believing in nothing.

  • So as in the chance your wrong and we do meet “God” whoever or whatever that may be. I can say I Believed up till and after the end without any guilt on my conscious.

  • @102

If you believe God is omniscient and omnipotent, then he knows everything and everything happens according to his Design. Nothing happens but for the will of God, right?

So God is ultimately responsible for everything bad that happens because the bad was part of his Design.

But wait, you think. Satan is behind the bad things!

If God is omnipotent and onmiscient, then He knew Lucifer would fall and do bad things. That means Satan isn’t responsible for the bad things he does. He is forced to do them as part of God’s plan.

So blaming a part or the whole of the Christian Trinity is exactly who Christians should blame when bad things happen, or they should simply accept them as God’s will.

  • So you think God should take away our free will? Then what purpose would there be in our presence at all? God wants us to choose to obey Him… and if we don’t thats hardly his fault. Just because He knows doesnt mean it’s His responsibility to stop us every time one of us is going to do something bad

  • But no I don’t believe its the will of God when people sin. We do that ourselves
“For it is not the will of God that any should perish but that all should come to repentance”

  • @113 you are such a whiner and you complain cause someone believes in something you don’t like you beg for help like a whiny child how pathetic.

  • @WilHiteWarrior
I totally agree with you! Glad to see there’s still good in the world :)

  • @darrenaw16
    Thanks, brother :) God bless

  • Oh wow, religion? On the playstation blog? Goody! All glory to the Flying Spaghetti Monster! You carry our souls on your divine noodley appendage! Also, am I the one and only person on PSN who’s excited for JoJo HD? *sigh* America, I am disappoint.

  • @neuropunk, we’ve been putting up with your constant spamming about alphabetizing for quite awhile now yet you start shrieking for moderators when somebody else calmly & politely states his beliefs? That’s rather rich. You’re only prolonging your “suffering” by arguing, same as when people tell you to stop spamming,

Although I share Wilhite’s beliefs, I will agree that the PS blog is not the most appropriate venue & I even agree that alphabetizing would be preferable. Nonetheless, your hissy fits over both topics only serve to discredit your opinions.

  • I think Rockstar Games decided to make a HD collection of GTA.
That’s why we don’t hear anything about GTA III anymore.

  • Doesn’t Dragon’s Dogma already have a Demo? Unless it’s a one of those 1 hour PS+ trials.

Anyway. Nothing to be in a hurry to get. I already own the physical versions of MGS2 HD, MGS3 HD on PS3 and Vita. And Peace Walker HD on PS3, so that’s good. Everything’s shaping up just fine because the next two months are going to tough on my wallet.

  • @127 I’m excited about JoJo. In fact that was my nickname in middle school…but not because of the series. Just not in a hurry to get it.

  • @lisatsunami: His Alphabetical sorting spam is annoying, but at least it’s related to Playstation and games. I don’t come to gaming sites for god talk and yes it is offensive when someone is trying to impose their beliefs on you in places where it’s not warranted. This is exactly why I absolutely hate religious nuts. You are whackjobs that believe everyone else is wrong. Well ya know what? Screw you and your god buddy.

Sooooo how about them games eh?

  • @29 I may be coming into this a little late, but they just said that PS1 classics are coming with the next Vita update and those updates (as far as I know) aren’t included in the Drop. It’s definitely coming real soon though.

  • Oh yeah, by the way Sony. Can you fix that weird graphical glitch in the PS2 Classics of Persona 3: FES? Where certain ithings flicker? One of my friends came over and we were playing it, and he got dizzy from it and had to lie down for a while. It was weird because he told me he never felt that way playing video games…

  • @132, that sounds like exactly what I say, word for word almost!

Yeah, my alphabetical sorting is on topic about Playstation, and the Sony people could stop it by responding, so my spamming is actually their fault, and not mine. If they wanted it stopped then I would get a response for it.

@128, as soon as the PSN people respond to me is when I can stop spamming. Their fault for not answering. So, shut up.

  • @neuropunk – My boyfriend and I were talking about the PSN getting an alphabetical sorting function for the digitally downloaded games, back in June. It would be nice if they gave you that option. Him and I are both O.C.D. when it comes to that. All of our video games, DVDs/ Blu-Rays, and CDs are in alphabetical order and whatnot. Lol.

Also, does anyone know when “The Walking Dead: Episode 3” is going to be released? I heard that it was going to be released “soon”, but that’s about it. Does anyone know when the release date is? My apologies if someone has already asked about this.

    Thanks,
    Stephanie

  • With the MGS collection coming out separately will we see a price drop on Peace Walker for PSP soon? It costs only $5 cheaper than MGS 2 & 3 Collection on Vita and the same price as the HD collection on PS3 which INCLUDES Peace Walker in HD!

Please drop Peace Walkers price to be a little more reasonable. It’s only $15 at retail for PSP but PSP Go users are paying DOUBLE that just for supporting Sony and buying the Go they have to pay a premium to enjoy the same content even though Sony and the Developer take a 100% cut!

  • waiting for One Piece Musou…

  • Any news on when the NFL Sunday Ticket is gonna be available on the ps3 this year

  • @neuropunk

I don’t get it. If you are so sure you are correct, why does the mention of God frighten you so much? Why are you so scared? If you have so much FAITH (because really, that IS the word that applies here) in YOUR believes, why can’t you just keep quiet and let the religious nut-job be wrong? Most curious…

  • Finally !!! A decent drop. I anxiously wait every week for the drop report only to be let down…NOT THIS WEEK !!!!!!
    Good job and thanks.

  • No Legasista? Was there no mention just because its a niche title, or was it really pushed back? NISA has been pumping up the 21st of August date.

  • lol “impose” my beliefs. People sure do like to throw that phrase around a lot about Christians even when it doesn’t apply at all. I wasn’t “Imposing” my beliefs, merely stating my own. I try to share the gospel wherever I can for those willing to listen. If youre not willing then that’s your choice to make. It saddens me when you don’t but I can’t force anything upon any of you

  • Counterstrike go on steam is a blast with the 15vs15. Ps3 and 360 get 5v5 that is going to suck so bad sadly. I would reccomend you get it on pc if you have a semi decent rig. The player count is going to destroy it here.

Wheres all the vita games? Why did I buy a vita? Where is monster hunter????????

  • @Sony How about merging “the drop” and the playstation plus info?

    *gives special nod to WilHiteWarrior*

@WilHiteWarrior I appreciate your patience and willingness to selflessly spread the Truth *makes mental note to send friend request later*

  • @Sony Can we get a like/dislike button… Also can you add some sort of “notification” system.

  • is there any word on this?

    https://twitter.com/Ubisoft/status/232960746802253824

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World it’s for. is it out this week or next week?

  • I just can’t take PS Move and all of it’s games seriously due to the delay that exists in LCD/LED and in a lesser grade, on Plasma TVs and that manufacturers don’t care to solve completely, I should be able to play almost like in a CRT TV with practically 0 delay. PS Move due to this seems like a defective device to me. my opinion.
