PlayStation Store Highlights

PlayStation Store Update 8-21-2012

This week is jam-packed with games of all shapes and sizes, so you’re bound to find something you like. If you’re a Transformers fan you’ll be happy to see that the latest retail offering, Fall of Cybertron, is available the day it launches – in other words, right now. If you’re wavering on whether or not to get it, the fact that you can make your own Transformer might help you decide. Seriously.

Let’s just say for argument’s sake that you hate robots (you monster), but love team-based shooters. You’re in luck. Counter Strike: Global Offensive is the newest iteration of the classic franchise, so regardless if you’re a retired pro or a beginner, now’s a good time to get involved in the community. It’s the last title in the PSN PLAY promotion, which also means that this is the last week to purchase games and earn PlayStation Store credit back. Read more about the event by clicking here.

Now, if you’ve had trouble finding Seasons Passes for downloadable content in the past, you should no longer have that issue. The store has a new section just for Seasons Passes located under “Add-Ons,” so now you can find them more easily than before.

PlayStation Plus members are receiving exclusive access to the DUST 514 beta this week and can purchase downloadable content for the title at half price. There are discounts galore this week, including: Counter Strike: Global Offensive, a plethora of Natsume PSP titles, and an interesting bundle with Plants vs. Zombies and High Stakes Poker.

  • @Ryumoau: EU Plus has been getting a nonstop barrage of great games and sales while we get the scraps. I’m probably just switching to EU Plus myself.

  • ahaha, so the only update for vita is a split of the MGS hd collection already offered and at a total cost of more than the collection, which also comes with the MSX games. it’s true. the vita is dead. =(

  • decent. could be some more stuff for vita, like demos and other ports from the ps3.

  • Was so excited for MGS3 on the Vita, saw the decent 15 dollar price tag, went to buy it, before realizing that it was ONLY for PS3…..go to Vita section to buy it, and its friggin 5 dollars MORE? WTF? No one price cross buy (even though its digital and the SAME GAME) and its 20 dollars…..wow…..and people wonder why some of us can’t stand buying things digital……(would be nice if they at least get a PS Plus discount)

  • Still no Pulse huh? At least tell us the the show is kaput.

  • I still can’t understand,I own digital version of MGS HD Collection – why can’t I download separate versions?wtf?I bought it already!

  • NA ps plus manager I hope you are actually listening to all the negative feedback. EU plus is doing it right!!!! How about fixing the issue before the next update and show the North American consumers you care. Show some pride & integrity in doing your job by stepping up and admitting your NA plus scheme is a major FLOP in comparison to EU plus. I do believe that if Septembers plus is not amazing then all the 3 months subscribers will not renew. My year subscription is up in a couple months. So if things don’t change I will join those people in not renewing !!!!!

    • Feedback takes time to get into the works, so while we can’t promise that anything will be addressed by the next update, we make sure to consider it so that we can take all the preparatory action needed to make stuff happen. Tune in to next Monday’s Plus update announcement to check out the latest content coming.

  • This is actually a fantastic update. Going to pick up WotS4 now and maybe Legastia this week or next.

  • One of the best updates of the Summer. Can we get any confirmation like the EU did that Plus members are getting Double Dragon Neon and Machinarium next month?

  • Curious on if we ever going to get a Sound Shapes soundtrack in the store.

  • I was very excited about MGS 3 individually on vita but $19.99 come on!! and ps3 version only $14.99…so, no buy for me thanks! and with the 1.8 update for vita, the PSX games will be more expensive for VITA too?

  • Nice update this week.

Plenty of content, good time of release.

Still nothing to make me want to renew plus, I haven’t heard of most of the games that have deals this week, but as an update it’s a good one for Plus as well.

Nice to see a few more game trailers, seems like some weeks there’s barely any on PS3 even when there are tons of new trailers constantly hitting the internet.

    WotS4, Legasista, NHL 13 demo – yay!

Nice to see MGS HD finally hit the store as well.

Why is there In Game content for a game that hasn’t come out yet? Madden 13….

  • Wow yet another BAD store update . What a surprise . NOT!!!!!!

  • Any news for the the Vita apps Wake Up Club or Treasure Park?

  • hey Morgan, can u guys get Gran turismo 5 on the playstation store. Any reply on this would be appreciated.

  • Woooo! This update is packed!

  • So can we expect Peace Walker HD to come to Vita in the near future??

  • Where is the Vtia companion app for Dust 514? Thought it was supposed to be released today? Other than that good work on the release this week!!!

  • Is it the 28th yet? I want me some LBP2 cross controller action and ps1 classics. I’m bored with this week’s updates.

  • When will the demos for the following PSP games become compatible with PS Vita?:

    1) Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow
    2) Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
    3) Resistance: Retribution
    4) Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

  • Please tell me that PS Plus is actually going to get something good next month. Perhaps Deus Ex like EU got this month? All you keep giving is boring PSN titles. I have been a Plus member since it started but I’m not so sure about it anymore. Where are all the themes and avatars? Do better next month PLEASE…

  • So shooters for plus Dust Beta, and Counterstrike (Reimagining) and Plants Zombies bundle which has little value to the plus users that already received PvZ from Plus earlier and some Natsume PSP games. Hardly an enticing update.

Plus continues to be suspect value for me Oct 21st will likely not be a renewal day.

Where is the Variety in plus, RPG, Action Adventure, Sports, etc.

The rest of the updates are fine but the discounts are a joke. Price drops are amusing and erroneus like the capcom psp games claiming to be 50% off when in fact they are just full price at $9.99

No Peacewalker HD with Dualshock controls, no Plus discounts on MGS, higher price on Vita versions. Disgraceful.

High volume low value as usual.

Downloading Nhl 13 demo. Thanks sony!

  • Wow you guys are on a roll. For those who never palyed it, give Gungrave Overdose a try. It’s amazingly fun. And you can’t go wrong with a game that allows you to play as a guy with a possessed guitar that shoots lightning named Rocketbilly Redcadillac. I wonder why the first game isn’t up yet. It got skipped in Europe too.

I just want to say that, while a lot of people complain, I for one am happy with the older game releases this year. You started with klonoa then gave us Legend of Dragoon and Tomba, and some good PS2 Classics too. Keep it up guys.

  • No PSx, no Minis, No PS2 classics (hah what a misnomer), limited Avatars, and Themes (great studio themes no discount i’m not spending $2 on a static theme, and you discounted the studio at introduction for plus i have the jasper one as my background for months what gives no discounts.)
Good discounts have gone away to be replaced with a dreadfully boring lineup of games (not to mention mostly hit and miss on ratings metacritic wise)

I guess we are supposed to be happy with Infamous 2 and LBP2???

Everyone needs to stop validating these games as being FREE.

THEY ARE INCLUDED RENTALS, with your $50 subscription.

    NOT FREE.

it’s still good value for new PS3 purchasers with less discerning taste and shooter / action game mindset.

But for people that want quality and variety and good discounts on new things and dlc for games we care about. IT’S SH ITE, Sept and October better be fantastic or i’m not renewing.

  • Any chance we could get Megaman X3 in the classics?

  • Why in hell is Metal Gear Solid’s more $ for Vita owners? Have something against the faithful owners of the overpriced, over rated handheld? And for those asking about Portable Ops, My guess is yes you will get it someday but for a PRICE!

  • can somebody please answer me if the Price Changes are a promotion for this week or if they’re going to keep those prices. Sorry, I’m new here

    • Price change isn’t a promotion, it’s a permanent price drop. Any promotional discounts are listed under “Sales.”

  • Hi Morgan Haro.

Im waiting for this monday announcement about Plus US, and I expect nothing less than games like Plus EU with Darksiders, Deus EX, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Dead Space 2, Oddworld. I cant deal with this lack of effort anymore, time to wake up, right? My renew depends of this announcement on monday.

  • @fede01_8,
most prices i’ve seen if they drop that permanent unless it’s a ps+ sale which then it expires at a certain time.

  • Pulse????????????

  • Great update!!
    Quick questions:
The european PSN anounced Red Dead Redemption and Borderlands and they already have Deus Ex:HR. Will this games be available in America soon?
When will be available The Walking Dead episode 3?
    Thanks!

  • @Skeetle,
Look we get it. Free isn’t really free. We know that shoot it says it all the time when we download the titles. I know that the selection as of late hasn’t been great and I do remember what it was like. You were always getting stuff all the time. I mean personally I’m hoping that NA PS+ gets their act together and push out the good titles and make our membership worthwhile. I mean let’s face it, would we rather be in xbox’s supposed great gold membership where you play for almost everything, it’s done by points not by dollar value and on top of it just to go online? No thanks! I’d rather have this!

  • Dear PSN Staff.

Looking forward to Peace Walker HD next week.

    Any word on Storm returning?

I’m looking forward to, and hoping soon to see:
Arkedo’s 3-pack (Jump!, Swap!, Pixel!) by Sanuk games.
    Machinarium by Amanita Design.
    RAIN by SCEJ Studio.
    Double Dragon Neon by WayForward.
    Joe Danger: The Movie.
    Snapshot.
    Unfinished Swan by SCEA.

Quantum Conundrum on PS3 has terrible screen-tearing issues. Has there been a patch or will there be a fix? I’ve only tried the demo, and I want it on PS3, but the screen-tearing isn’t fun. I just look to the right and left and the environment breaks apart.

And the long wait for ‘The Last Guardian’ continues. Still looking forward to it!

  • Sorry, one more question.

Now that the servers are shutting down for MotorStorm Pacific Rift, could you drop the price of the add-on track packs to “free”?

    Have a great week!

  • I’m really, really enjoying how early these updates have been lately, and consistent with it. Thank you!

Also, highly annoyed with this price discount on the Dust 514 Merc Pack. Thats a real kick in the teeth for those of us early adopters, especially considering its a BETA.

Plants vs Zombies & High Stakes Poker bundle is great, except I got Plants vs Zombies with my PS+ (thank you) and I don’t need to buy it again, so how about a discount on just High Stakes Poker?

  • Still waiting for ragnarok Odyssey :( where are u!!!!!! :(

  • I just want to offer something that I would like to purchase for Little Big Planet 1 and Little Big Planet 2. A few months back I had to replace my playstation 3 because it quit working altogether, now I constantly utilize the ps plus online storage but I lost all of my little big planet 1 and little big planet 2 unlockables for level creating and such because it all saves under gama data utility so could not be uploaded to online storage, as I am not complaining I would just like to make a suggestion maybe they can add to the ps store where you can buy all the unlockables for little big planet one and two because I don’t really feel like going back and playing the story through both games to unlock everything, I think it would be a good idea, so please tell the makers about my request :)

  • what about the psvita update for ps1 play? still no more news on it?

  • No DLC Peace Walker? That’s random. XBL has the actual collection for $24.99 and that isn’t a sale price either. 5 dollars more for 1 game less? LOL. I love PS, but jeez, lube it up before you stick it to us.

Other than that, I’d say it’s a pretty good week if we pretend that there’s no such thing as the PS Vita. 1 more week. :D

  • @137 That was announced at Gamescom. It comes out next tuesday. 1 more week.

  • No new avatars and no GamesCom trailers? :(

Wish MGS Collection was like Cross buy.

  • @138 Wow, $5 less for the whole collection on XBL? That’s pathetic on PSN’s part.

  • Decent week unless you own a Vita. I have never felt as abandoned by a company as I feel after dropping so much money on the Vita. Even ps1 classics are being dragged until the last possible moment, but nothing NEW or unique, just ports of old games.
I almost feel like Sony is mad at the Vita buyers. We can’t even get responses on the forums and NO new games (legasista, rainbow moon, etc) are even considered for it.

I would think supporting the system would earn gratitude and not such contempt.

  • I’m a plus member and I dont see CS:GO full game trial. I see the Michael Jackson experience trial and every other new demo. Was it not added by mistake?

  • By the way…I’m very happy with my PS+ account, my only complaint is the high prices of the VITA digital games!

  • @SenjuGkage go to Playstation plus, then exclusives at the button them go to ful game trials, you will se eit there.

  • Hated it. Where is the public beta of PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale avaible for download?!?!

  • excuse my typos
@SenjuGkage go to Playstation plus, then exclusives at the bottom them go to full game trials, you will see it.

  • Dragon’s Dogma quest pack seems to be quite a deal, but still pricey for what it actually is. I’m crossing my fingers for a true expansion on the next update. I’m sure this disc has more to offer, but Capcom should hurry with their on disc dlc thingy :/

  • I am gladly paying the exchange rate for the ps eu cards at the moment I’m just hoping in the near future n.a. catches up with them in the games being given so I cnt switch back
