Persona 4 Golden: Solid Gold Premium Edition

PlayStation.Blog chums,

Persona 4 Golden. It’s so hot right now. It’s Japan’s hottest PS Vita game of all time, selling more than twice as many units as the next bestselling title. In the weeks following P4G’s release, PS Vita hardware sales in Japan saw a dramatic spike, larger than at any time since the start of the year.

Perhaps it’s because the original Persona 4 became such a phenomenon, winning tremendous critical acclaim and adoration from consumers. It could also be because Golden, the enhanced and expanded PS Vita version of the game, dramatically improves on the beloved RPG classic in so many gosh darn ways.

Did you know I speak PS Vita? True story. I can hear yours from here, musing aloud, longing for something amazing; it’s practically begging to be loved. It wants copious oodles of Persona and it wants said oodles right now. It wants 100+ hours of interacting with fleshed out, sharply written characters. It yearns for a rich world to get lost in, for intense battles, for blazing fast load times. Translation: your PS Vita has a fever, and the only prescription, is more Persona 4 Golden.

We hear your PS Vitas, PS.Blog amis. (That means “friends” in French… Don’t ask me how I know that; I took four years of Spanish in high school.)

We hear them, and we’re answering.

Persona 4 Golden for PS Vita

We’re proud to announce Persona 4 Golden: Solid Gold Premium Edition, a very special and very limited set of collectibles for the hardcore Persona and/or PS Vita fan. Japan’s biggest PS Vita game ever deserves an extra fine greeting as it reaches North American shores in one of the coolest special editions we’ve ever put together.

Every one of the ONLY 10,000 COPIES of the Premium Edition will include:

  • The game: One of the best RPGs of all time is bigger and better than ever before, enhanced to take full advantage of the power of PS Vita.
  • Hori Hard Pouch: Sturdily crafted and stylishly customized, this case has a flap for storing PS Vita cards that also guards the screen.
  • Hori Face Cover: Offers lightweight yet effective protection without blocking any major ports, meaning you don’t have to take it off to play!
  • Protective Skin: Adorns your PS Vita with the stylish, vibrant aesthetics of Persona 4 Golden and also includes eight matching character wallpapers. This same skin is being offered in limited quantities as a bonus for fans who pre-order P4G at participating retailers.
  • Stickers: Featuring some of the popular stars of Persona 4, these stickers can be used to decorate anything you can think of!

Devotees may recognize these items as the same ones made available in Japan, and they’d be right! These are exactly the same special set of accessories made by Hori for the Japanese game, down to the use of the overseas title, Persona 4 The Golden.

The Solid Gold Premium Edition will not be remanufactured. We’re projecting it will sell out and very likely in short order, so if you’re interested in owning a huge piece of ATLUS gaming history, pre-ordering from a participating retailer is highly advised!

Persona 4 Golden: Solid Gold Premium Edition ($69.99 MSRP) releases this holiday season alongside the standard version of the game, both exclusively for PS Vita. If you’re not compelled by the Premium Edition, remember that you can still get a free protective PS Vita skin with a pre-order at a participating retailer. (Please note supplies for these are limited too.) For more info about P4G, visit www.atlus.com/p4g.

  • As much as I’d like this game (well, and a Vita) I’m really not very comfortable with the way Persona 4 stuff has been handled when it comes to Atlus Japan’s reverse import fears or the continuing shoddy treatment of Europe.
It’s really frustrating that special editions of The Golden are being paraded around when we don’t even have a release for Arena on the horizon and Atlus seemingly can’t be bothered to establish any kind of long term plan for getting games published here (I’m not even a fighting game fan but the way the region lock / non-release has been handled really bothers me). Not to mention this business with the original audio on the P4 anime blu rays (and presumably its continued absence on this iteration of the original game).

In fairness none of these things are Atlus USA’s fault and I’m sure they would rather release the best possible product to as many fans as they can (including us Europeans) but it’s hard to want to support a parent company that seems to be going to great lengths to annoy international consumers in order to protect the absurdly inflated prices it insists on charging domestic fans.

  • This is getting bought but is there anyway we could get an audio CD in the future even if it for sale on your website i love persona and more importantly i love the music!!! :]

  • Will Canadians really get a chance for this version of the game?

It’s already been 24 hours and none of the Canadian retarilers I’ve checked (including the ones listed on your official site) have this listed yet.

Amazon.com and EB USA both have it, but they don’t allow shipping to Canada for some reason. (even though amazon.com ships other things to canada)

With only 10,000 copies and one day gone it’s hard to imagine any will be left in stock by the time canadian stores list it…

  • Well, I think I would have been sold if I hadn’t just bought my Vita a new case yesterday.

  • @101: Each retailer has their own stock, so that won’t happen.

They said that a couple times on their Facebook page.

@99: Shoo, go to the EU Blog to complain about it. Better yet, find the EU publisher’s facebook or twitter or whatever and talk to them directly about it. Not sure why people from Europe come to the NA Blog to complain about EU stuff. Would be like us going to the EU Blog to complain about something.

  • @v–firefly–v: You directly acknowledge that your complaint has nothing to do with Atlus USA in a blogpost by someone from Atlus USA. What exactly was your goal? Go complain on the EU blog or something about it. This has nothing to do with us.

  • @103 ok thanks for the reply.

I have no interest in/don’t use facebook. Didn’t realize that publishers wasted time posting stuff on that site. Might have to make a facebook account to start getting news, but then I’d have to use facebook…

    Anyway thanks for the information.

  • Heh I already pre-ordered the game a couple days ago so I could get the exclusive skin. Sadly for whatever reason this new version is not available for in-store pickup like the original was, so it costs almost double (however I want to protect my Vita when I buy it, so why not do so in style). I just sent an e-mail to Gamestop asking them to cancel my first pre-order since it didn’t give me the option to do so myself. If I had the money I would keep both orders open, because you know the “Solid Gold” edition is going to be worth a couple hundred dollars in a year or two =p.

  • oh common atlus, just take my money already lol. this game is the reason i got a vita in the first place (and yes, i’m a total persona 4 junkie).

and yes, i put my pre-order for this in yesterday (since its such a limited run i didn’t want to miss it).

  • Did it sell out at Amazon already or is it still not available for pre-order yet?

  • Well this still isn’t available from Canadian retailers after 48 hours…

However, FELLOW CANADIANS, after a bit of a hassle with sorting out a shipping address it would accept, the USA Gamestop.com site allowed me to place an order to ship to Canada.

Still checking the Canadian retailers so I can hopefully switch to one of them so I’m not waiting weeks for an international delivery.

But it IS POSSIBLE for Canadians to order it through Gamestop.com instead of ebgames.ca , still couldn’t get amazon.com to work.

    Hope that helps fellow Canucks.

  • It would be nice if it came with the digital version of the game for download. It may sound stupid but since I bought a 32gb memory card for my Vita I only buy digital content to avoid carry game cards around and eventually loosing them. I know that some protective cases have place for game cards. But I usually carry my vita in the pocket and the case size would make that not possible. and its much more convenient not have to change cards to change games. Im sure that theres is more people around doing the same.
I would love have that collectors edition (I have lots of ps3 games collectors editions) but Im not buying the same game twice. If it had the digital version for download too I would buy it for sure.

  • Fellow Canadians, I was at my local Gamestop, and they told me that it should be up tomorrow or Tuesday. Either way, if you wait, it won’t be sold out, like Aram said. Each supplier was given a limited quantity, so we’re guaranteed to get some up here. Don’t forget to pick yours up. :)

  • Another reason to get a PS VITA!

  • just letting fellow canadians kno Persona 4 Golden: Solid Gold Premium Edition is on amazon canada for pre-order

  • just preordered mine @ gamestop.com

  • i really wish i could get the solid gold edition, but i might only be able to afford the game as i lost my job. i am getting persona 4 golden regardless. im not to keen on having all black handheld systems (fingerprints show up to much on the vita’s surface). i promise i will get it, the only atlus game i have ever gotten on launch lol

  • It’s so golden! This is the only game besides Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation and Gravity Rush that would actually make me consider buying a Vita (at the current price).
