Before the update becomes available, I wanted to take the opportunity to walk you through some of the highlighted changes and give you a sneak preview of what you can expect.

PSone Classics

We are working hard to ensure that all of your favorite PS one Classics titles will be available for download directly on your PS Vita via PlayStation Store (PS Store) as soon as possible.

Here is a list of PSone Classics titles that will be available for download on 8/28:

  • Cool Boarders 2

  • Not sure if I’m doing something wrong, but this update seems completely broken. I’m on 1.8, and Final Fantasy VII is not showing as downloadable on my downloads list, and there is no way I can figure out to do this transfer with Content Manager. But it’s too early to find any help!

  • THIS is the update I’ve been waiting for. I am extremely disappointed with SCEA, though. If you look at Sony Europe’s PlayStation Blog, their list of available PSOne Classics is far larger to our small list. I don’t understand how so much more progress has been made there.

  • I didn’t wait 6 months for 9 PSOne games. This is pretty ridiculous especially when EU is getting a monsterously huge library right out of the gate. SCEA has been horrible at pretty much everything related to PSN/Vita support and it’s just shameful. Even the PSP has infinitely better support than the far more powerful Vita. Come one guys. I know you can do way better than this.

  • I would like to be able to move games save between PS3 and Vita with please.

Also were you kick in the head by a large horse?!? Didn’t you think that people would know how many games are being rolled out in Europe and be very angry with this crap list you put up???

  • make.believe is a sony slogan now afterall people.

So that’s how they approach the Vita support, you can imagine all these great features but odds are they’ll never work like promised… unless you play make believe :P

  • I downloaded the update and it has a spot in the content manager for Playstation Mobile. I hope things start populating the store like new apps and possibly the xperia play games (they weren’t that great but there might be a gem or two I haven’t tried)

  • Turn off WiFi on your vita and it should work to copy every game. Worked for me

  • By the way people, we will see at 4pm GMT on Wednesday if this is the ACTUAL games that we get and it wasn’t a typo to list them all, which wouldn’t at all surprise me. They just said we were getting them like promised so many times before. Let’s wait until it actually happens.

  • Now that the Vita will have some iTunes functionality, could be it be possible to copy over out digital copies of Blu Ray movies from iTunes also? Moreover, there should be a dynamic Games bubble icon that will tell the player what game is inside the PS Vita at all times, instead of forcing us to take out the Game card and put it back inside in order to check. Lastly, the web browser and Near should be built into apps and games instead of being a separate entity which is one of the main downsides currently of the PS Vita where everything is fragmented (i.e Friends, Group Messaging, Party are all separate instead of being a single app) and there is not much cohesion.

  • SCEA boy do you guys suck. After all the waiting this is all the people get compared to your other divisions. Shame on you SCEA. You guys alone will be the downfall of the Vita with your S@#$%y handling of it. SHAME

  • I love this update. It has improved a lot of little things. Now when I have 3G turned off it doesn’t show “no signal” at the top. Also, everything is a lot faster and notifications are a lot smaller at the top. I’m sure I’ll notice more.

  • Good. Thanks, Sony.

  • If I have some of those already downloaded on my PS3, can I copy them to the PSVITA?

  • So when can I remote play every PS3 game on my PSVita? It was one of the main reasons I bought this awesome piece of technology on day one.

  • SCEU has a better update with over 100 games

  • P.S. as usual the update is live well before the page that’s supposed to give us info (linked in post) is updated…

  • Hello, I’m trying to copy Project Justice (Rival Schools for the English speaking world) on to my Vita with 1.8 and I can’t seem to get it to work. FYI both PS3 and Vita are on the same account, the game is owned by same account. Is this game incompatible at the moment?

  • Can you guys just quit already and hire a new team to manage market and promote the Vita? SCEA is completely full of clueless suits who have no interest in things like the Vita. Over $1000 spent on my Vita and boy was it one of the worst impulse purchases of my 33 years.

  • I’ll put my two cents in. If you don’t see anything in content manager just fiddle around in the menus a bit. I went and looked at content on the Vita to go to PS3 and when I went back in it was working.

    Games that showed up:
    Silent Hill
    Chrono Trigger
    Final Fantasy IX
    Final Fantasy VIII
    Final Fantasy VII

    Games that don’t show up:
    Chrono Cross (kinda mad)
    Spyro

  • @PSONE to VITA OWNERS
You CAN download through the PS3 PSOne titles you own. I’m playing Street Fighter Alpha from PSOne with no issues on my Vita right now.

  • Just tested it copying Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill. It works!

Need to redownload the games so you have the PS1 game install files on your PS3 then use the content manager on Vita to transfer them over. I needed to do a hard reset of my vita to get the new content files to show up but they work!

About to test our Castlevania SotN but it seems the list above is just the games that will be on the PSVita PS1 classics store but it looks like it will be able to run most games no problem as long as you have the install files on your PS3 (so redownload the install files from the PSN)

Most of my anger is saciated now. I was really upset but now I’m happy!

Now if only this would have added more PSP support (like Portable Ops)

  • Look at what the EUROPEAN PS VITA has……….

    https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2012/08/27/ps-vita-system-software-update-v1-80-the-full-psone-classics-line-up/

I don’t even have a Vita, but if SONY ever expects more fans to even THINK about buying one, they need to start getting their act together or at least explain WHY only a few of these OLD OLD OLDDDDDD games are released in the USA when it seemingly should be so easy to release ALL of the PS1 games on the PSN to the vita…… Any response/answers/info SONY US blog people???

  • I guess I’ll have to wait a couple more months to play FF 6 on my Vita -sigh. I’m dissapointed about the lack of PS1 Classics on the day of the update, but hey atleast there here. I just hope they don’t take long to include the rest of the classics, specially the other FF, I have been waiting months to play FF6, since I want to play the most FF I can on portable devices, wich are the first 10 (the 10 comes out on Vita).

  • Are you seriously Kidding me? 9 games out of hundreds? Why do you people refuse to let people use the system for what they want? EU is getting dozens of games, and the US is stuck with 9? How the hell does that work? At least comment on why we get less than Europe. That’s simply nonsensical.

  • Continued…

This is the reason why the Vita is failing. And I hope nobody tries to deny that. It’s the same reason PS3 “failed” for a while when it first came out. Too expensive (this time it’s the proprietary memory cards that SONY for some reason chose to use), NON user friendly apps (a web browser on PS3 that is capable of VERY little), and LACK OF COMMUNICATION. As it stands, I wouldn’t even think about buying a vita until next year, when a price drop happens and when those SILLY memory cards SONY C H O S E to go with are cheaper as well, and when the VITA actually has SOLID (aka: severely patched+updated) apps on it. These thing should have been there out of the box though… IF you wanted the VITA to be a BIG SUCCESS that is….. ;) SONY seems clueless sometimes about WHY it is suffering such financial woes, while it seems obvious to others out there how they keep TRIPPING THEMSELVES…

  • I downloaded Spyro, Jet Moto & Tekken 2. Jet Moto obviously works, Tekken 2 works but Spyro does not

  • @Heavenly_king

You have to download the games again if you have them installed on your PS3. For them to show up in content manager they still have to be in install bubble form on your PS3. So don’t install them when you download them on your PS3.

  • How come EU gets over 60 PS1 classics added to play on the Vita while US gets 9!?

  • SCEA you guys really need to get your crap in order. If more games will work you should list that. I don’t understand why you guys can’t do as good of a job as EU on the US blog. Everything is always halfa$$ed. Step up you game or find new people that can do it better.

  • Turn off wifi on vita and transfer. Legend of dragoon and xenogears both working on my vita

  • Thank to those users who are testing and pointing out that we can download some additional titles to the PS3 (keep the install file) and transfer with content manager.

I have a bunch of games I’ll be trying that with once my Vita has recharged.

Hope those of you trying have good success finding more titles that will work (but for some reason they are too lazy to list in the store itself apparently).

  • To install psone classics on vita from ps3 you need to have the installer you download from the playstation store, not the already installed game … Will not work if you do not have the install archieve.

Tested ffvii, castlevania symphony and working pretty good. \../

  • Yes!!!, They added alot to the PSP emulator, you can now assign the touchscreen to do things and there are more options for the right stick, so games like tomb raider you can assign r1 and l1 to the right stick :-)
    Thanks Sony

  • Please explain to me why SCEE has over 90 PS One classics compatible with the Vita and SCEA only has 9? That is absolutely ridiculous. I did not spend over $300 for this system and wait 6 months to be told “there are only 9 ps one games” compatible. UNACCEPTABLE SCEA. UNACCEPTABLE. Now you’re just making me regret getting this Vita. You better have 80 or so titles out next week. if not, for God’s sake at least THE GOOD ones. Crash, Spyro, metal gear solid, resident evil, castlevania? the games that made the ps1 such a good console.

-A very pissed off Vita owener.

  • What the heck? Only 9 games for the US when Europe gets them all in one go? WTF? Its bad enough that the update’s been dragged out as long as it has then to find out that we’ll have to wait even longer for you to decide whether or not us Americans are worthy enough to warrant certain titles? Its been the same with about all of Vita’s titles. Many PSP titles are not available via the store on either PS3 or PSV. And many of the actual Vita rpg titles aren’t slated for a US release.

If you intend for the Vita to be a success you’re going to have to get off your lazy behinds and start rectifying this blatantly lopsided content release.

  • tell me i can download legend of dragoon to my vita trou my ps3…. dont get me wrong guys I love u for ur hard work on the updates… but being this hard to fully implement the ps1 support to the all powerful vita when the psp handled this no problem…. its a little bit ridiculous…. still not hating, just trying to find a reason…

BTW what happened to the browser getting flash support or htl5 so we can watch all tube sites?? or even to watch the ps blog videos on its site? anyways… thanks for the updates guys. Ill be waiting for a ps3 update and new update for the vita

  • It’s sad, becaus the VITA is an AMAZING machine. I WANTED to buy it……………. really…. but NOT with THIS kind of “support” or should I say lack of support. Don’t release a system unless it has apps + functions READY to go. Same goes for games. I won’t buy a vita just for a couple games… I can wait a couple years until sony gets their act together and is forced to sell the VITA for cheap as well because of how badly they released the system ;) Sucks for sony, but it’s a win for the people who buy the VITA 2 years after launch. Sucks for the people who bought the system when it came out and supported it though………

The vita is an amazing system and an amazing IDEA, but the execution has been a C- at best. Not good enough, when there are so many other options out there for gaming and handheld apps etc….

  • Just wanted to advise that much more than the stated 9 games work, you just have to copy the games from the PS3 to the Vita. I have the following games working so far:

    Final Fantasy VIII
    Final Fantasy VI
    Final Fantasy Origins
    Silent Hill
    Castlevania:SoTN

I will be downloading more of my PS1 classics and will attempt to transfer to the Vita and update.

  • New features in 1.80 update are appreciable.
I’m hoping much more improvement in next update:
    1. Third-party browser;
    2. VPN support;
    3. Seamless connection with PSN.

  • When can we expect an update for more PSP games? How about adding support for those every week too? I still can’t use my free copy of ModNationRacers for PSP (from PSN hacking) and I want to buy MGS: Portable Ops for my Vita.

  • FYI – IT IS ALREADY ONLINE. I JUST DOWNLOADED THE UPDATE… THAT’S THE LIST I CAN DO FOR NOW BEING A DAY ONE BUYER… NEVER AGAIN SONY… I WILL BE PATIENT NEXT TIME. I will enjoy the 9 ganes that i only like two of them.. Thanks anyways

  • Chrono Trigger
    Parasite Eve
    Parasite Eve II
    Metal Gear Solid

All download through the PS3 just fine. However, Chrono Cross does not, so we’ll have to wait on the support for that. On another, also sad note, Portable Ops (PSP Game) is still not working on the Vita. Sad news.

Also, is the screen resolution for PSOne games supposed to be that compressed? It’s weird to have all that black, unused space around the game. I was looking for a way to zoom in the screen, but I don’t think there is one. The res is also compressed on PS3, but due to it being played on a TV, I guess the difference is not super significant like here.

All in all, glad to see the support taking off. Near is looking intriguing as well.

  • As usual crisis averted if you have a PS3. Breath of fire 4, FF9, Legend of dragoon, FF7, Symphony of the night etc… being downloaded as we speak to my Vita. At least Sony got this right for those who own both consoles. CTR aswell I think and Crash 2 or 3 and Rayman 2. Game on!

  • No MGS? WHAT?!

  • awesome stuff!!!!!!

  • @ 141: You can adjust the screen size, just hold down your finger on the screen for a few seconds and a menu will open, then go to Other Settings>Screen Mode and select Zoom or Full….I prefer Full. Hope that helps.

  • I am playing Vagrant Story right now!!! On a USA vita… I am happy I didn’t rant, i tested and researched first. Something more of you should try before crying…just saying.

Anyway I found a partial list of tested and working titles, some of which aren’t even on the EU list:

    Arc the Lad
    Arcade Hits: Shienryu
    Arcade Hits: Sonic Wings Special
    Castlevania Chronicles
    Castlevania: SotN
    Cho Aniki
    Cool Boarders 2
    Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness
    Final Fantasy IV
    Final Fantasy VI
    Final Fantasy VII
    Final Fantasy VIII
    Final Fantasy IX
    Hot Shots Golf 2
    International Track and Field
    Jet Moto
    Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
    Legend of Dragoon
    Medieval
    Mega Man
    Mega Man 2
    Mega Man 3
    Mega Man 4
    Metal Gear Solid
    Money Idol Exchanger
    Rally Cross
    Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
    Silent Hill
    Syphon Filter
    Tomb Raider
    Twisted Metal 2
    Unjammer Lammy
    Vagrant Story
    Wild Arms
    Wild Arms 2
    Xenogears

  • @ 140: If you have a PS3, just download your PS1 classics to the PS3 and transfer the files over. It would of been nice if Sony made this clear upfront, they would not have a forum full of upset customers.

  • Sony. I LOVE YOU.
