PS Vita System Software Update (v1.80) – Take The Tour

As most of you know we are releasing a pretty hefty System Software Update (v1.80) for PlayStation Vita (PS Vita), which will enhance your experience and also allow you to play PSone Classics on your device.

Before the update becomes available, I wanted to take the opportunity to walk you through some of the highlighted changes and give you a sneak preview of what you can expect.

PSone Classics

We are working hard to ensure that all of your favorite PS one Classics titles will be available for download directly on your PS Vita via PlayStation Store (PS Store) as soon as possible.

Here is a list of PSone Classics titles that will be available for download on 8/28:

  • Arc the Lad
  • Cool Boarders 2
  • FINAL FANTASY VII
  • Hot Shots Golf 2
  • Jet Moto
  • Syphon Filter
  • Tomb Raider
  • Twisted Metal 2
  • Wild Arms

For those of you who have already purchased these titles, you will be able to re-download those games directly from your PS Store account or transfer them to your PS Vita directly from your PS3 at no extra charge.

  • @ 395 press and hold the touch screen an options menu should appear. Then go to Other Settings. Next Screen mode and then you can choose your size option.

  • Nevermind just found out, hold down the touch screen

  • I haven’t browsed through the 8 pages of comments but how come Europe gets such a huge influx of PSOne classics support while America gets the insignificant amount of 9~?

  • for now we have nothing… i keep checking out the store every minute and i can’t see any ps1 classic games…

  • @ people who say NA got only 9 ps1 games: we got more then just 9 ps1 games. i personally was able to transfer about 35 out of my 46 ps1 games that were on my ps3. the list they gave was only a small portion of what we got. if you have already purchased a ps1 game re-download it to your ps3, but don’t install the game on the ps3. just go thru the vita’s content manager to see if you can transfer the games over to your vita.

  • I think the shop will be updated tomorrow. The only reason why some people can play the PSOne Classic games is because they transferred the games they have bought off of their PS3.

Still waiting for that confirmation about Xenogears…(whether it’s really working or not).

  • Kind of irritated that only people with PS3’s can currently use PSOne Classics on their Vitas.

I realize it’s a matter of hours, but I wasn’t made aware that the PS3 was an essential accessory for my Vita.

It’s kind of a pricey one, as I wouldn’t use it for anything else.

  • I’m excited for it. They are saying that these 9 games are the games able to download, I wonder if I can transfer more PS1 games via the PS3. The idea of Cross play function working is interesting as well. I can’t wait for the LBP2 feature to be available.

  • @402: I transferred Xenogears from my PS3, got thru the intro and ran around a little in the game. Works flawlessly.

  • @davidb69 yes there are actually a lot more games you can transfer from your ps3 to the vita. it is probably close to about 50 ps1 games so far maybe more. re-downloading them was the only part that took the longest time. read the previous post of the list of games that are being transferred to the vita. i personally already transferred 35 ps1 games.

  • hi sony

i just want to remind you that you have customers in the middle east. why ps vita does not support Arabic yet and we are in 2112 m and we cant find our location in the ps vits Map/near ?

    please update the following:

    1-Arabic language support.

2-maps support, as we got a message cod is:
    C2-13396-2

3-near does not work here too cuz u cant find your location.

    thank you

  • @404: Thanks for the info about Xenogears!

  • The lack of PS1 support was the sole reason I was holding off on the Vita. Since the system continues to be a barren wasteland of games like the PSP before it, I figured PS1 games would offer a good alternative to keep me busy. So when I saw this update was live, I was really excited. Then I clicked through and saw not even 10 PS1 games will be supported with this update. I could really only shake my head at the inept approach to this system.

    WTF???

  • It´s not only these 9 titles. Yesterday when I updated my vita I could transfer and play a bit of Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill and Chrono Trigger. Gradia is still not Supported. Must try with more games

  • WOW, 400+ POSTS AND NOT EVEN 1 REPLY FROM SONY!!!!!!

    HAPPY BANKRUPTCY $ONY : (

    I HOPE FOR VITA’S PS2 EMULATOR….. ABOUT 2015 MAYBE : )

  • Final Fantasy 8, japanese classic megaman 3 and hotshot’s golf also work perfectly fine when downlaoded through the content manager. also I loaded my endgame save for ff7 and the final battle with you know who looks amazing on the Vita, awesome update!

  • For those of you complaining. If you downloaded a PS1 game on the PS3 then just downloaded again but transfer it on the Vita. and the reason Y you people don’t see any PS1 game up yet is because the store hasn’t updated yet…….DUH.

  • again i repeat there are more then 9 games that can be transferred to the vita. here is my personal list of ps1 games i have transferred to my vita via the ps3. there are 32 games so far. only 14 of the ones i had did not transfer over.

so far I’ve been able to transfer from my PS3 to my Vita:
    Arc the lad 1 & 2
    Chrono Trigger
    Castlevania Chronicles & SOTN
    Destruction Derby
    Dino Crisis
    Final fantasy origins, 6 ,7, 8, 9 & tactics

    Silent Hill
    Syphon Filter 1, 2, & 3
    Um Jammer Lammy
    Warhawk
    Wild Arms 1 & 2

These didn’t transfer over to my Vita:
    Arc Arena Monster Tournament
    Arc the Lad 3
    Chrono Cross
    Final Fantasy 5
    Grandia
    Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, 3, Team Racing
Spyro the Dragon 1, 2, year of the dragon
    Disney’s Lilo and Stitch
    Odds world Abe’s Exodus

  • Why in the H did I get my hopes up? Why is it that the games I care for the most, the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games, are only downloadable in Europe? C’mon, Sony, I’m trying not to whine about this kind of crap, but you’re making it very difficult on me.

  • And for those who say I can just transfer stuff from my PS3 to my Vita, I don’t have a PS3 anymore, seeing as I sold it to my brother, and I don’t know when I’m getting another one.

  • @chrishighwind i have a feeling that the games you want will probably be available to download onto the vita later on, hopefully. from what I’ve read Sony plans on releasing compatible ps1 games every week. we just have to wait and see if they do that.

i personally still want to see more psp games that were only umd only in the store. i still have a hand full of games that i had purchased digitally that are not compatible with the vita still. oh well maybe they will put it there soon.

  • Do we know when the store will be updated? I do not have a PS3 neither but i’d really like to play MGS and FF7 on my vita :/

  • The US gets 9 games, Europe gets 50+.

I’m beginning to think that Sony America can’t do anything right with the Vita.

  • I like the music and browser update. However why only 9 PS1 games and yet Europe has a list as long as my arm, you can’t blame the software its the same device. Come on, end the stupid phased rollout, all you do is force people to create another European account to get the games, compartmentalising games doesn’t work. You have licenses for these games already so get on with it bring them all to the US.

  • @sauveur_quebec from the past few store updates it will probably be updated around 3pm central time.

Good luck to those who don’t have a ps3 to use to transfer the games over to your vita. i hope you all find the ps1 games you want to play on your vita.

  • Well i love the idea of the update but remember if you have a ps3 you can always direct download your ps1 classics. So this update is factastic but just falls short in terms of us support.

  • I downloaded 1.80 last night (Yes it was available all along it seems) and LOVE IT!!! I have PSX Classics: Crash Bandicoot, Legend of Dragoon, FFVII, Street Fighter Alpha, and Street Fighter Alpha 2. I downloaded them onto my Vita via PS3 and can confirm that they all play with the exception of Crash Bandicoot. I know this upsets Crash fans but I am elated that I can FINALLY play Legend of Dragoon on Vita without using Cross Play. The lag made Additions impossible. It looks great and am so happy to have this added value to my Vita. I’m sure Crash will follow soon.

  • Nice it is cool! But what about the apps.?!
Hmmmm. More apps. Please instagram. Lol!!
But nice job thanks for 1.80 update :)

  • Hey, I took Xenogears and Front Mission 3 off my download list and they transferred without any issues and play perfect on the vita and it isn’t on the list, I would assume most PS one games would do the same, I just think there taking there sweet time actually getting them ported for download when they already play fine

  • Too bad the PS One content support is half broken, the Crash and Spyro games don’t even show up as PlayStation titles in the content manager when hooking into the PS3, and I highly doubt it’s because of compatibility issues.

C’mon Sony, out of the 20 PSX titles I own I can only transfer 6. That’s not cool.

  • It’s not half broken. Works just fine.
You people complain so much and needlessly. More than half of you don’t even bother reading your fellow posters or you would see that PSone support is mostly fine.

Now Sony. You need to have someone who isn’t a complete Noob, like Dan Mesa, post next time. Someone who actually won’t piss people off when they don’t provide knowledge and let people think only 9 games work right now.

  • The following options are missing from the emulator (and were present in the PSP’s PS1 emulator):

    – ‘Custom’ screen mode: Allowed you to set the screen size manually (some games really need this to remove black borders and maximize the screen real estate)
    – ‘Custom’ assign buttons: On the PSP you could assign the four directions of the Analog Stick to different buttons.

Please add them back in ASAP, thanks!

  • I love how the Vita’s Browser is so much faster compared to before!
    Great job, loving this update!

  • Evran, just touch and hold the screen and your PSP options pop up. Tah-dah!

  • ATTENTION!! To all those who own a PSVita but do not own a PS3. A select few PSOne games can be downloaded to the Vita system straight from the PSN store. Go to store on Vita, then click on settings, its the button bubble at the bottom right with this (. . .) Then click on download list and search through your downloads manually.

    Games I’ve downloaded this way and I know for sure work are;
    Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness

Japanese PSOne games that work are:
    Mega Man
    Mega Man 2
    Mega Man 3
    Cho Aniki

Some PSP and PS minis also work this way. Go ahead and try it and please keep listing what works so we’ll all know. Thanks and You’re welcome. :)

  • @Scourge003

Sorry, what I mean is that those options were present in the PSP’s PS1 emulator’s options, and are missing from the Vita’s PS1 emulator’s options. ‘Normal’ screen mode has black bars for most games, whereas ‘Custom’ screen mode (as it was called on the PSP) allowed you to set your screen to whatever dimensions you want.

  • Great! I am gonna get a PS Vita soon and I hope more games support are ion the way.
One question: why does the European Vita get tons of more games than the US?

  • All I want to know is it possible to transfer psp save data to the ps vita now with this update because I’ll seriously be upset if i really have to start all over all in final fantasy dissidia 012… I managed to get most of my character to level 100 and now because i can’t seem to get my psp saved data to transfer to my ps vita i have to start all the way over including the whole story mode.

So please if anyone knows how to do transfer save data from psp to ps vita please let me know.

  • Great update! I like the enhancements to notifications, but can you add the following in an update for the Vita (and PS3)?

    Notification options:
    All (button)
    None (button)
    Mute Friend Sign In/Out (box)
    Mute Trophies (box)

  • I’m downloading the new update now as I’m reading people’s post and in 2 mins i’ll be hands on with it. I’m not going to knock it until I experience it for myself. I’m excited and a lot of y’all should be to. Even through put 9 titles on there list there are others that can be downloaded via PS3. Those that can download that way just play around with it and other who can’t just wait. Yes, I know Sony can have us waiting for awhile at times for what we wait but when they do put out they don’t let down. If you did’t like Sony then you wouldn’t have their products. Don’t knock them like a jerk, just tell them what you hope to see in a legit way. No one will listen to a jerk. Yes, I’m a Sony-Head, lol! Vita(Viva)-la-Sony!

  • whats the reasoning behind the tiny list for North America, when Europe gets a huge collection? https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2012/08/27/ps-vita-system-software-update-v1-80-the-full-psone-classics-line-up/

  • Was there any explaination as to why this update locked down memory cards to one account???? Really a pretty crappy move by Sony I gotta say.

  • @mzjo23 transfer the game save to your ps3 if you have one and then transfer the game save to your vita. you can try it on your pc but i think it might be a little harder to do.

  • Instead of moderating my comment why don’t you respond to the unhappy people here?

  • Hello guys. My back touch it’s working nice on games, but it’s NOT working when I use the web browser. Is anyone having the same problem? I hope I can hear any help from you guys. Thx.

  • @437 Because if you could still easily change accounts you could switch to a EU or JP account and easily download the PS1 games you want. On top of having crap support by SCEA they purposefully locked the memory cards to the account just to make sure we switch to a better account that actually cares about it’s customers.

@439 Too true. WHERE IS SONY AND IT’S COMMENTS ON WHY THE US IS GETTING SCREWED WITH PS1 SUPPORT???!!!!!

  • Who ever gets payed to read these messages,

Vita owners shouldn’t have to rely on PS3 to get games on their system that they should have been able to play a long time ago.

Vita owners shouldn’t have to go through some time consuming process of making list to confirm the games they can get into to their systems. All of the compatible games should be in the store.

I honestly feel like you guys just don’t give a damn. 9 games in the store? 9 games? Where those the only 9 that you guys tested? Stop trying the Vita like some sort of PS3 sidekick and start treating it they way we want it to be treated. It’s a damn console in it’s own right with so much potential just being wasted. Hackers and now even basic users are doing what you need to do start doing to sell the system. Start doing something…

  • Locking the memmory card is really petty :(

Just tried Final Fantasy VIII, it works flawlessly.
