Remote Play Brings God of War, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collections to PS Vita Today

PS Vita Remote Play - God of War CollectionPS Vita Remote Play - Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection

We’ve got some great news for PS Vita owners today concerning Remote Play, the application that enables you to interact remotely with PS3 using your PS Vita and a Wi-Fi connection. Starting today, PS3 owners will be able to download an update for God of War Collection and Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection that will enable these classic games to be played from their PS Vita using the Remote Play function.

So what does this mean? It means you’ll be able to enjoy two classic HD collections almost anywhere, whether you’re around your PS3 or not, from the comfort of your PS Vita and a Wi-Fi signal. Both collections include customizable control options, so you can choose to have the R2 and L2 buttons from your PS3 mapped to PS Vita’s rear touchpad. This is great news because God of War, God of War II, Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus represent some of the most beloved and acclaimed titles in videogaming — and both collections look stunning on PS Vita’s brilliant 5” OLED screen.

To access the Remote Play functionality for both God of War Collection and ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection, you’ll need to download patches for each game on your PS3, at no extra cost. Once you download each patch and try out Remote Play for yourself on PS Vita, be sure to let us know what you think!

In addition to playing selected games remotely, the Remote Play feature enables you to access music, videos, and photos stored on your PS3 through your PS Vita. For instructions on how to set up your PS3 and PS Vita for Remote Play please visit our guide here.

I started my Digital copy of SotC about an hour ago and it prompted me to install/update with the new patch.

I only own that game and not Ico and had no problems updating around noon EST today.

  • @149

If you lose your internet/connection for a moment it screws it up and you can’t continue?

  • Johnnydubs post #112 nailed it. That is exactly the situation. I believe Sony when they say that producers need to add a patch on the PS3 for games to work, but that means Sony at the very least needs to make their own games available for remote play, because remote play was a big part of the hype and advertising. I’m glad to see them starting to show support.

And then Evran post #134 pointed out what has to happen. The PS4 and the Vita must be linked in all ways. It would be a great selling point for both machines. We should be able to remote play every single game on that machine. The trophy lists should be merged. We should be able to see people online whichever console they’re using. But most importantly, remote play must be there. The PS3 gets a pass but the PS4 must be built with the Vita in mind. In the meantime, at least keep the first party titles coming.

  • @150, @151 thanks for answering! I’ll try again when I get home from work.

  • dear sony i have been a fan of all your consoles and handheld devices and bought all of them and i have one request and i think that most people who have the ps vita have the same request make an update for the ps3 so we can play all the games that are on the ps3 on the vita via remote play it can work with the r3 l3 r2 l2 buttons on the back we can play any game we want please i would love to play games like red dead redemption on the ps vita and i don’t want to hack my ps3 to do so so please fix the problem

  • i do not know if anyone else is having this problem.only god of war 2 was patched with remote play my god of war 1 wont play via remote play.????

  • @149 “hacked” remote play work with all game but it s kind of laggy.
that cause of the screen resolution. there just too much pixel.

IMO they patch the game to downsize the screen resolution of the source.
this need to be made by the game dev cause smaller screen dev can create issue on the Ui for exemple.

  • Great!! I’m trying it tomorrow.

  • I’ve played ICO/SoTC and GoW Collection now via Remote Play on Vita for a few hours and am delighted that they’ve finally implemented it on a couple of good games. Lair just didn’t do it for me frankly. Anyway I hope they patch the Jak and Ratchet Collections as well as some NON HD remake games. I find the back screen touch for L2 R2 a little awkward at times (pushing then kicking the crate around in GoW), I started getting a cramp… as pressing and holding R2 and X at the same time is a hassle for me.

My sincere wish is that when the Killlzone collection drops, we’ll see Remote Play implemented for it as well. It would be good to get the community hyped about Killzone again (and bring in some new players) right before Killzone Mercenaries comes out for Vita. Sony MAKE IT SO!

  • Snake. … Snake? … Snake?! Snaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This works incredibly well. I started up Ico and Shadow of the Colossus and could not believe how smooth the gameplay was using Remote Play. Sony, this is a killer feature. Please patch more games to support this. Now that I have gotten a taste of it with these games, I really want to see it on other games. This seriously could be both a system seller as well as a game seller. It would be so awesome to be able to play LittleBigPlanet, or inFAMOUS, or Gran Turismo 5, or any number of games with Remote Play. Please do more of this.

  • What about those of us who have the actual single disk copies of God of War (1 & 2) Collection HD and God of War 3? Should we also expect an update or are we going to be forgotten?

  • A very big step in the right direction! Thank you so much!

  • Wow this is so awesome, I don’t have the God of War Collection (well I do, but the Origins one, not the original PS2 games) but I do have the Ico and SotC Collection. This is just more of a reason for me to buy a Vita. Honestly I wasn’t interested at first just based on the game titles (the PSP was a day one buy for me because I think it had the best launch title out of any Sony console/handheld) and I still don’t own a Vita (yet), but I do have “Persona 4 Golden” pre-ordered, as the date gets closer to P4G’s release I will check around and see what the best bundle for me is (sadly I don’t think Sony is planning on putting out any new bundles but hopefully I am wrong).

  • Not sure if anyone is still reading this thread but thought it couldn’t hurt to confirm that Ico & Shadow of the Colossus works beautifully in Remote Play mode.

At random times throughout the day I can quickly grab my Vita and fire up these games. And I love how the PS3 starts up on its own, from the Vita, and also shuts itself off after a certain amount of time has passed with no activity.

    Brilliant job Sony.

PS Plus is proving to be a huge value too. Borderlands, Walking Dead, Outland… and now Double Dragon and Scott Pilgrim for FREE.

Totally keeps me engaged between new, big budget releases. Love it.

  • Brilliant. When I first saw this, I was frustrated because I just purchased the God of War games about a month ago. I’d been debating between buying used copies of the original games, or getting the collection, and I thought I’d decided to go with the original games because it’d ended up cheaper. That just figures, I buy the two games and a month later remote play access comes out for the same games only in a different format, and I wasn’t about to re-buy the same two games. I only just now realized, while looking at my Amazon orders, that I did in fact buy the God of War collection. It was the Uncharted series that I bought all three games individually instead of getting the collection. Heh.

  • Damnit, sorry for the double post, I wasn’t done typing.

I’m glad that it is possible to patch games to be playable via Remote Play. I purchased my Vita on day one because the advertising made it seem that all PS3 games would be playable remotely. I wasn’t the only person to feel deceived that only two whole games had a crossplay feature (and that it required you to buy the game twice). It took awhile to get over feeling cheated by Sony.

When I realized that we’d been lied to and Vita couldn’t play PS3 games remotely, I thought it was a blatant misrepresentation and the ads had been referring to the crossplay feature. So I’m thrilled to see that Vita really CAN play PS3 games remotely; it’s just going to take awhile as patches are trickled out.

Late is better than never and it does make me feel better that Sony didn’t actually engage in blatantly false aqdvertising to get people to buy a product that couldn’t do what the ads promised. They just promised something at launch that wasn’t ready. That’s a big difference in terms of my trust in the company.

  • i dont know yet if its something to do with the patch, but i downloaded the patch for Ico/SotC collection and now i can’t play Ico. SotC works just fine though. I tried to load Ico several times and it just goes to a black screen where my T.V tells me theres no vid signal

  • ..not sure if it really needs clarifying, but im speaking of Ico not working for my PS3 now. I don’t have a Vita

  • its about damn time they start givin us something to use the remote play

  • My God of War HD Collection on disc is not updated and i cant use cross play with my vita please help!

  • Not Cross Play TH3J0K3R503, Remote Play. Also, make sure you PS3 and Vita both have the latest firmware updates installed.

  • Chimslap do you ever switch monitors/TV’s that your PS3 is on? I’ve had this issue but usually right after switching displays (from my regular TV to my 3D display for example) certain games will black screen for me until I go into system/display settings and re-detect my display. Probably not your issue since SotC works but figured I’d post anyway,.

  • Here’s to hoping that day one new releases come with remote play capabilities in the near future. For example, I’d sure love to do some Borderlands 2 grinding in the wasteland while the TV is being occupied now that the new season of Survivor has started. Just sayin. I love the Vita and have played most of the games released for it but I have to say that Remote Play is one of the reasons I chose to be an early adopter.

  • boomstickbhg when my Vita loses connection via Remote Play for a second, Cratos does a little Benny Hill (Google him) and then the game synchs back up. It’s actually pretty funny when it’s not happening in a QTE.

  • Nice

  • Are there any plans to bring Chains Of Olympus & God Of Sparta to the Vita? I know there are downloadable versions from the PSP titles but given the Vita’s capabilities, I believe the games could look way better. Plus we could have a single cartridge with both games (as they are in PS3).

Many people (like me) just got into the Sony world thanks to PS Vita. So it would be very nice if we could get a lot of titles and not play them if we have them on PS3. Many people gets excluded because of that.

  • Really good job on the patch.I had actually planned to by shadow/ico collection a while back but finally caved when I saw this.Surprisingly, this was my first time playing these games and let me just say, both Ico & Wander belong in playstation all-stars.Make it happen. Also,if more developers enabled remote play for there games they’d see more sales as Id buy alot of games just to play them via remote play.Alot of the games I traded in at gamestop most likely would have been kept if they had a remote play feature.Sony needs to demand developers put patches in there games.

  • Another awesome reason to own a Vita. I gotta say I will really be using the remote play. Who doesn’t like continuing a game on the move. But I also share the same concern about the trophies. I really hope they will be updated as I play.
