LittleBigPlanet Karting: Meet The Hoard, PAX Recap

The summer may be over, but fall is now upon us, which means we’re getting closer and closer to LittleBigPlanet Karting‘s November 6th finish line. It won’t be long before Sackboy’s fastest and most competitive adventure will hit store shelves everywhere!

Now that we’re closer to launch, one of questions that we’ve been hearing a lot lately is: Who exactly are these mysterious characters that our stitched-together hero must race against throughout LittleBigPlanet Karting’s Story Mode? Well, we’ve decided it’s time to let you in on some of the backstory.

Long after Sackboy defeated the Negativitron in LittleBigPlanet 2, visitors from far, far away arrived on Craftworld driving speedy karts, with plans to seek out and steal its most precious prizes. These swarms of otherworldly scavengers became known as The Hoard. As you might have guessed, The Hoard want all of Craftworld’s prizes for no reason other than to hoard them – they essentially embody the antithesis of Creative Sackartistry. So, the LittleBigPlanet Karting adventure begins with a very distraught Sackboy – distraught because he is forced to watch The Hoard fly past him and steal prizes at speeds greater than he can possibly match!

But, Sackboy has always been clever: as one of The Hoard crashes nearby and loses his kart, Sackboy sees his chance! He hops in the vacant kart and begins his journey to drive out The Hoard and return the stolen prizes to Craftworld.

Now that you know the story, here’s an exclusive peek at The Hoard, so you’ll have an idea of what Sackboy is up against…

LittleBigPlanet at PAX Prime!

LittleBigPlanet had an amazing showing at PAX last weekend! We were prominently featured in the PlayStation booth, where we had plenty of stations showing LittleBigPlanet Karting and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita for fans to test out. We hope that everyone who attended had a great time and got a sweet sample of our upcoming LBP fun.

We’d also like to announce the winners of our LittleBigPlanet Karting PAX T-Shirt Design Contest! Thank you so much to all those who participated. We received so many awesome and creative entries, it was very difficult to choose a winner.

Congratulations to Brian from Nevada, who scored first place! His “pinstripe art” design was the inspiration for our giveaway shirt. It was a total hit at PAX! Here’s a look…

  • Nice T-Shirts – now how do us that can’t attend PAX get one? :)

  • I like the enemy design a lot! And those shirts have great designs. I don’t like when shirts only have a logo in the middle or plastered on it. I like that these have artistic designs!

  • I cannot wait for this game to come out! Looking really good guys! Keep up the great work!

  • Can’t wait! Any chance for Vita support in the distant future?

  • Little Big Planet will, one day, rule the world.

  • Aw they don’t look so bad. Maybe they just need a hug and a fwiend.

  • this looks freaking sweet! though i’m kinda bummed out that most of the hoard looks the same. there must be a good reason for that. anyways, i can’t wait for this game! I’ve always been an lbp fan and this will look good with my collection.

  • Sony, you really need to get on making a LittleBigPlanet animated series. Sackboy and Sackgirl are just so damned iconic. Give them fun personalities (of which they already ooze with charm), snag Stephen Fry to narrate the show’s intros and outros, and pack it full of cameos of other PlayStation characters like Ratchet, Jak, Sly, etc. It’s time for LBP to branch into more media than just games and action figures.

  • @8: Yeah they should do something like Puka, something cute and fun lol XD. I think this franchise has the chance of becoming the Playstation “mario”, you cant waste that chance Sony.

    Keep up the great work

  • Interesting designs…for then Hoard….t-shirts look cool too……o_o……..any general release month for that cross controller dlc? …..just wonderin…….don’t kill me. o_O

  • It’s a great shirt. I had fun playing the demo, but I wish I had gotten a chance to play multiplayer.

  • I agree with 8 and 9, make an animated series Sony!! With the right animation style and dialogue, it could be a big hit! And the show would never run out of ideas since the possibilities in Craftworld are endless.

I honestly hope Karting isn’t ‘the end’ like it was with Crash Bandicoot and Jak. I’ve invested a lot of money and time into this franchise :( Take the opportunity and expand it! Sackboy(and Sackgirl) have a charm that both kids and adults love, something that many many characters don’t have.

In my opinion, after the PS4 releases they should make LBP3, LBPK2, and an animated series. Also, backwards compatibility with the PS3 games. PLEASE!

  • ^^^ Please Sony for the love of God… do not do what this guy says.

The last thing a good game needs is for some corporate franchise to milk all the fun out of a good idea.

  • Great game :-D can’t wait to get it.

Just one question, is this game going to be released on the PSN Store? any info would be much appreciated.

  • @14, how does that milk out all the fun? That makes no sense. Nintendo milks Mario like crazy and the games are just as fun as they’ve ever been.

If you want Sony to not take any chances then so be it, but they can make some profit if they got more people into a game like LBP. Just because something becomes popular, it doesn’t mean the quality goes down.

  • Congratulations to the winner! My design is the top right image from the runner-ups. I can’t wait to get my copy of LBPK and that t-shirt. I had a lot of fun in this contest Thanks guys :)

  • Darn, I was hoping a team member would appreciate the Stephen Fry quote on mine.
“Yes, I am visually pleasing, thank you, but I’m still very approachable. Come on in, kick your shoes off, and please share the immediate environment with a responsible manner”
He even said it would be a catchy T-shirt slogan.

  • Awesome. Just pure awesome. The LBPK Beta was pretty fun, and I have played every other LBP (that is currently out to the public) But it’s so complicated! Cool storyline.

  • Will LBPK also be on the Playstation Vita

  • Sackboy is very clever. I remember the Karting beta. (I know what the game is like! I was in the beta!) and I can’t wait to drop some heavy explosives onto the hoards. (Even though they are Chubby and cute) :)

  • I am going to love this. The hoard looks awesome.

  • I Like It

  • Why is this posted on the Vita board ? Unless this is coming to the Vita I see no reason for it to be posted there.

  • @24 perhaps because LBP Vita was mentioned in the post and was at PAX.

  • (warning some of my message is a spoiler)thats it no more lbp only lbpk no vita lbp but new mm studio game nd psa-sbr looks cooooooool sackboy in da game but this is da last contest im enter i give up i will never win 1st place at anything
