Online Game Save Storage Increase Coming with PS3 System Software Update (v4.25)

At this year’s Gamescom press conference, we announced that Online Game Save Storage will be upgraded to 1GB for PlayStation Plus members, and I’m happy to report that the increase will be available soon with PS3 system software update (v4.25)!

PlayStation Plus

To sign up for PlayStation Plus, go to PlayStation Store on your PS3, or click here.

After you’ve installed the update, simply go to the Saved Data Utility under the Game column of the XMB. From there you can access the Online Storage folder and find any existing game saves already uploaded, as well as the increase in space to 1GB. So set your automatic download to upload every game save for every compatible game you play and enjoy the additional breathing room. You can also continue to use this feature to selectively upload game saves you specify.

Stay tuned to PlayStation.Blog for the latest info on future updates.

  • yea… but too bad when ur ps plus membership expires… u have no access to your game saves until u re-new your subscription. some of us just can’t afford to keep it going continuously, so that’s why i’ll never use this feature, again. thanks… but no, thanks.

  • Why is a required firmware update needed for this?

  • I updated but my online storage still reads at 150mb. Is there something else I was supposed to do?

  • nmv…got it fixed, thanks for the info #201 @MerricK1313, worked like a charm :)

  • Hello. I have a ps3 slim with demo mode firmware in it. I was told by the person I bought it from that I could update it when new firmware came out. I tried 4.25 It would not find it when trying an update from the ps3 so I downloaded it to a usb card. I got the error code saying data is corrupted . How can I fix this. I really want to get online. I’m not a hacker and I can’t get my money back for the ps3 I got. I don’t know alot about the firmware stuff and nothing about hacking. What can I do to fix this? Please help…

  • Morgan… Love the 1gb update! Just a quick question. Why am I limited to only auto updating one of my ps3’s? I have my limit of two tied to my account but would really like the whole auto update deal to work on both. It would be nice if that were available to plus members. It’s kind of an annoying feature and I really just want to understand the logic behind it. Thanks!

  • @tigerlange,

Are you serious? That has been answered several times on this very page; why did you post before reading the other comments?

  • @EricY33,

Sounds like you got ripped off. This probably isn’t the right place to ask that question; you should call Sony.

  • I couldn’t be more pleased. Now this feature will be used more often. Thanks,

  • @Quickbrittle,

They did not remove the ability to copy saves to/from USB drives. You’re trying to copy copy-restricted save files, which you’ve NEVER been able to copy to USB.

  • Got latest update and my 60gig no longer works (YLOD). Thankfully my other PS3 took it just fine. I suppose it’s not a common issue; I don’t see anyone else complaining about it here.

  • This is bull!! How is possible that the max before was 150Mb, so I had 109Mb used. Now it shows that 981Mb is in used, how? You know how many games I have to authorize in 1 day to get 981Mb of data? Well let see, If around 25 games is close to 109Mb… Then it has to be close to 200 games? Really? You guys always do half as* shyte, come on techies!!!!!

  • @Belcaw. I haven’t had that problem, but I do have a trophy syncing problem. The fact that so many people are having so many different problems with this latest update does tell me that there needs to be a patch to fix it. I’m sure Sony will get to it. They have always been good about these things. So just gotta wait till then.

  • OK, so….. new update yet I’m still waiting for Sony to fix problems that have existed with the system for years now (or problems that they fix, and inevitably revert back to when updating a few weeks/months down the road)

I got two in particular, I’ve sent similar emails like this to support, so I thought I’d share here and get your opinion Mr. Haro as well as the opinions of other PS gamers. (Covers ears hoping not to hear corporate jargon, the usual “I care” promises, or gamer trolling.)

And so… here’s the latest support email I just sent:

  • Snow White and the Huntsman Extended Edition is the only Blu Ray I have experienced problems with thus far.

    The problem is as follows:

When starting the actual movie, before the universal logo can fully complete animation, sound cuts out and video becomes stuttered. Controls no longer function and this effect continues throughout the length of the movie.

    Attempts to solve:

    1. Tried changing the 1080p/24hz setting in video as described in multiple blogs.

Automatic (default) = does not solve problem

On = changed framerate of Dynamic Theme on my TV (LG Model: 55LW5300) and caused theme to stutter as movie did, worked once to solve problem, never again.

    Off = no change

  • 2nd attempt involved sound, thinking that fully uncompressed English DTS 7.1 might be to tough for current system to handle, though the movie gives no other options.

with two turtle beach wireless headphones linked to optical (Models: X42 and PX5) and the optical output limited to dolby digital 5.1,aac, 4100 and 4800. the movie worked for the first 20 minutes, then went back to current problem.

with Lg soundbar (Model: NB3520A) no matter whether I had DTS sound checked in optical output or not the movie still would not play correctly past the universal logo.

  • To summarize….

    1. The two turtlebeach headphones I have are top of the line, both models. They are both fully compatible with PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as being fully capable of playing 51. Dolby Digital, 7.1 Dolby Digital, and DTS sound, yet DTS has NEVER worked with either pair and the PS3 regardless of bitstream settings, PCM is not surround sound, it is virtual. Bitstream is the ONLY way to truly send each directional audio signal, therefore PCM is not an option to solve this issue regard how the ps3 handles sending directional audio to the turtlebeach headsets.

    2. The movie issue is the same regardless of ps3 model ( as I own all of them). It is NOT a lens issue as every other blu ray, dvd, and game disc work perfectly fine. It is also NOT an issue specific to the movie disc I own as I have returned it 4 times to the store I purchsed it from (making sure to check upc and serials so I would not pull a blu ray from the same shipment. I have utilized all available options concerning settings (6 hours of an evening trying every possible combination minus switching audio to PCM and video to anything lower than 1080p).

  • The system software is the only possible fault I can find currently, The movie in question plays brilliantly on any other tv or blu ray player except the ps3, and I have connected the ps3 to multiple 1080p monitors including the official sony ps3 3d monitor. Please take note of the sincerity and effort I have exuded in my attempts to solve these problems before contacting you.

In hopes to hear from you soon,

and of course, my name which will not be given…. Thoughts anyone?

  • Oh, and to EricY33….. Demo Mode firmware? Either you are trying to be sly or you got ripped off with a premodded PS3 and you’re barking up the wrong tree here buddy. Sorry… truly am.
